Old custom templates in Pages 5 .select background item?

I have some custom templates from iWork 09, that worked fine until this pages 5.22 came along.
They are in Word Processing Layout, and also have a separate text box or two.
In Pages 5.22 I can not longer select them, they just appear on the screen as the "Type to enter text' words.
the only way I can select the box is to 'Convert to page layout.
but if i do that, then all the other custom text is deleted, ...a warning is given and other text is gone.
In previous pages, there was an option to 'Select background Item' or a similar entry that allowed me to select these particular text boxes, but in the is new Pages that option is no longer there now the Inspector pane has been changed.
The Arange Tab appears in Page layout, but not in the WP layout...it must have been there before otherwise how else would I have added the text box?
Anyone have any idea how I can make all my old templates usable in this new  of Pages
Thanks

In the Template Chooser for Pages ’09, there is a category heading named “My Templates,” and by default, there is a physical folder in the following location called My Templates. You are permitted to create arbitrary folder(s) in this location through File > Save As Template… for perceived organization. However, the Template Chooser, unlike the Finder, does not show these sub-folders in its left-hand navigation panel. Instead, it shows all templates (including sub-folder contents) in one view — thus subverting your practical organizational goal.
<login directory>/Library/Application Support/iWork/Pages/Templates/My Templates
When you are presented with the file dialog during the Save as Template… activity, it defaults to the My Templates folder location. Click the selector that shows My Templates, and choose the next higher Templates folder. Now, you create a new organizational folder here (mine is called Journals), and it will show up separately under the My Templates category heading — and the related templates are not shown in the general My Templates folder item view.
If I were to manually create empty folders in the above Templates folder using Finder, as long as they are empty, Pages will not list them in the Template Chooser.

  • Template / generic page that holds items that are common to all pages

    Hello,
I have to create around 50 pages which contain different items such as text boxes, check boxes, select lists etc. The pages also have some items that are the same on each page, for example the the 'previous', 'next' and 'save' button as well as a report region that is common to each of the 50 pages.
Is there a way to separate the unique items and the common items of a page? For example I tried to do it with a modified version of Carl’s report pull (http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=11933:48) that inserts (via AJAX) a page into the current page (like iframe). So I in the end I would have 51 pages; 50 pages with unique items and one page which would contain the common items and embed the others. But I would have problems with storing the values of the embedded page by clicking ‘save’ on my master page, since the values are not available on two different pages…
Or is it maybe possible to create a template page which I could assign to my 50 pages that would contain all the common items?
The easy reason why I would appreciate such a solution is that if I wanted to change a common element, I wouldn’t have to go on each single page but to change it just once for all pages. This would make the 50 pages much easier to maintain.
    Any ideas or suggestions?
    Thanks and regards,
    tomtom

    Hi Scott,
page zero is a great suggestion. However, we don't need the items on each page. We could maybe exclude those few pages from page zero...
Also we are looking into PL/SQL Server Pages: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/appdev.102/b14251/adfns_psp.htm
Do they work in APEX-- could we include items (buttons etc) in the common code?
    Thanks,

Just wanting to create a custom template to use in pages to save time and help with small business.  Is there a way to do this?  I hope so.  Look forward to hearing from anyone with info on this.

When You select Cube in New Shape from Layer and select Scale the 3D Object from the 3D Scale Tool options You can enter values.
Then You can load, create, open textures for the other surfaces.
If You have Photoshop CS4 Extended that is.

  • Adding a page from custom Templates in Pages 5

I know a lot of features have been removed, but this HAS to be my own operator error.
Currently using Pages 5.1 on all of my macs 10.9.2
I build multi page templates in pages. For example: a cover page, a storyboard page, a notes page, looks page and an end page.
I used to save a custom template that consisted of a layout for each page, then, under 'sections' I could add multiples of any page.
I usually need mroe than one storyboard page, multiple notes pages, and could easily do this.
I cannot figure out how to add additional preconfigured pages as I need them.
I know I can no longer duplicate a page (workaround is grouping everythin on a page, copy and paste to a blank page... seriously)
And the only thing I can figure is to make a new template with 40 of each custom page layout, so I have multiple custom
I have to be missing the new method to do this.
    thank you in advance.

    Gone.
Removed by Apple along with 100 other fetaures.
Pages '09 should still be in your Applications/iWork folder.
    Use that instead.

  • Problems with custom template splash page

    Hi Folks,
We're having issues with a custom template which is used for our splash page at https://servername:8000/index.html. Autoconfig is set up correctly and should be parsing some variables but doesn't seem to be doing so.
    It parses this ok:
<a href="%s_webentryurlprotocol%://%s_webentryhost%.%s_webentrydomain%:%s_active_webport%/OA_HTML/AppsLocalLogin.jsp" style="font-size: 160%;">Click Here To Login</a>but then this part is not parsed at all:
    <td>
          <p style="font-size: 70%;">You are connected to %s_systemname% on %s_webhost%.</p>
<p style="font-size: 70%;">These details may be required for support purposes.</p>
</td>Can someone enlighten as to why this is happening please? I've tried many combinations of variables and html tags but am lost.
    Many thanks in advance.

There is an "undocumented" parameter you need to include in your
page. It MUST be a hidden field value called "p_action". The
form hidden value is either "OK" or "CANCEL" (case sensitive).
Thus, when the form is submitted, this parameter states to
commit the changes. Useful if you have a "Save" button and
    a "Cancel" button.

I have a custom template.  When I edit it and try to save it asks me to name it and then I end up with an additional custom template.  How do I edit the template and save the changes without creating another template?

    Hi Atrec,
If you don't need your old custom template, save your changes with the same template name. It will tell you that this template exists and will ask you Replace? Say yes (if you do want to replace the old with the new!)
To delete unwanted templates, go to Finder > Menu > Go and press the option key. Your Library will show in the Go Menu. Navigate to Library > Application Support > iWork > Numbers > Templates > My Templates.
Delete any unwanted template by dragging it to the Trash or click on it then command-delete.
Having gone to all that trouble to find My Templates folder, right click (or control click) on it and Make Alias. Drag the Alias to any convenient place for a quick way to get back to that folder.

  • Why can't I select background images in Pages 5?

So I've got a document with an image of a Gantt Chart, and it's been formatted to be in the background.
When I try to insert a new page before this image, it overlays the text of another page.
Trying to find 'select background images' is no where to be found, whereas in Pages 09, it was fine.
I'm all for simplicity, but removing something like this, and not being able to select this image at all?
    Is there anything I've missed?

This is not the answer to the original question but it is an answer to a related problem.
Apparently, Apple removed the simple and useful "Send Object to Background" menu item. For the last half an hour I was straggling to put my signature image under my name in a letter. The image background is white. So, when I insert the image, it is on top of the text and blocking it.
Then, I searched and found this discussion, it helped but not solved the problem. I found a solution inspired by this discussion. Here, what I tried to send an image to the background.
Chose the image in question. When I selected "Arrange -> Section Masters -> Move Object to Page" as suggested in this thread, it moves the image to the background. BUT, the image appears on every page at the same position within the section. If the document is a single-section document (almost all my documents are single-section documents, as I use Pages for short simple documents like letters (in the near future, I'll say "I used to use Pages", as this kind of feature removal makes it unfeasible to use it anymore).
Thus, you have to define a new section which should contain only the page in question. Enough rumbling! Here is exactly what I did:
Let N be the page number on which you wish to put an object in the background.
Go to page N (your cursor must be somewhere on that page)
On the toolbar choose "Setup -> Section Tab -> Create a new section -> Starting with this page"
    Go to page N+1
On the toolbar choose "Setup -> Section Tab -> Create a new section -> Starting with this page"
Now, you have a single-page-section on page N.
Put you object on page N
    Select the object (image)
On the menu, choose "Arrange -> Section Masters -> Move Object to Page"
Also, I recommend to enable by "Arrange -> Section Masters -> make Master Objects Selectable"
You can put any number of objects on page N by repeating on steps 5 to 8.
The problem is, however, if you continue to edit your document and and sections gets longer, it will start a new page at the end of that section. Which is awful, because you'll have to remove the sections, and start from scratch, or manually move the text from one section to the other. So, do this after you are done with the document. Pity!
If anyone have a better solution it will be appreciated.
    -- o --
Now, I will continue to nag, if you allow me. When I open an old Pages document with images in the background, it opens just fine. It is not selectable as the original author stated. This indicate that Pages still support background objects independent of the sections, it just doesn't offer in interface to that facility. Why?
I had a fairly large number of letters and templates I created with Pages. Before it is too late, I'll abandon it.
I have a similar experience with iWeb. Apple promoted it, and then abandon it. Now all of my class pages (http://web.boun.edu.tr/akdogan) look too 2000s style, but I don't have energy to convert them something else at this point, but I'll have to.
So I will continue to use LaTeX for long documents (that has been the choice for a long time), but I'll switch back to almost equally annoying Word for short and medium documents.
Again, pity! I used to like Pages.

  • A method to create completely customized photo book page templates from scratch in Lightroom 5

I was able to successfully create completely customized Lightroom 5 page templates (including altering the number of, positions, and sizes of pictures) by making edits to the templatePages.lua file(s) in the Lightroom directory tree.  I have never heard of the LUA file format before, but it is ASCII and looks somewhat like XML, so it was fairly easy to decipher.  Here is a high-level description of how I did it.  This applies to Lightroom 5 on Windows 7.  If this doesn't make any sense to you, then don't try it - you're likely in over your head.  Although my description is brief and lacking in detail, it should enable someone who is capable of handling this to figure it out with a little of careful trial and error.  Do this at your own risk - if you screw-up your installation, catalog, or computer, it's your own fault.  It all worked great for me.
First, open the "<lightroom 5 install directory>\Templates\Layout Templates" folder.  Then navigate to the template set that contains the template you would like to use as a starting point for the new template.  For example, "12x12-blurb\clean12x12".  Make a back-up copy of the templatePages.lua file in case you mess something up and want to revert.
There will be a bunch of .jpg files in this directory that each contain a preview image of the layout that carries the same name as the .jpg file.  Find the one that you would like to use as a starting point.  Take note of the name of the file, which is probably something similar to "page_26_preview.jpg".   Duplicate the file and rename it to something unique, such as "dummy_preview.jpg".  It's just temporary, so it doesn't matter what name you pick, provided it is a legal file name with no spaces.
Next, open the templatePages.lua file in a text editor.  I suggest using one that can automatically recognize and format ULA (such as Notepad++, which is open source and free to use).  Then search the file for the unique portion of the file name you took note of earlier, such as "page_26".  It will point you to a section in the LUA file that describes that particular template.  Carefully copy that entire section, including a balanced number of brackets (starting with the two brackets and commas before "children" and ending with the one bracket and comma after the "title" line.  Paste the copied text into the end of the file on a new line immediately following the bracket and comma after the "title" field for the last page template section (right near the end of the file).  Change the "previewName" field to the name of the preview file copy that you created ("dummy_preview.jpg" for me) and the "name" field to the name of the new template you're creating ("dummy" for me, since it is just temporary).  Next change at least one of the hex characters in the "pageID" field such that the new template will have a unique page identifier.
Now you can make edits to the photo and text fields included in the new section, using other templates in the template file as examples.  "x" and "y" fields are coordinates (in pixels) for the bottom-left corner of the picture or text field, "height" and "width" are the width of the field in pixels.  The fields should be mostly self-explanatory, but make sure that the "photoindex" fields are filled-in starting from 1 to N, where N is the number of pictures in the template, with no duplicates or gaps.  They do not need to be in order.  Treat the "textIndex" fields similarly for text fields.  If you want to add an additional picture or text field, simply copy the section describing a picture or text field from another template and paste it, carefully, into the new template that you are creating.
Once you are done, save the file (you may get interference from Windows UAC, in which case save the file elsewhere and the move it back to the correct directory).  Then open Lightroom.  Create a new photobook, and choose the new template for one of the pages, remembering that the preview image will look like the JPG that you copied.  Voila!  If you didn't screw anything up, you should see a page based on your new template.  Then right-click the page and select "Save as custom page", which will cause a fresh preview file to be created for your new template and your template to be copied to the "custom pages" section of the template menu.  The new section you added to the "templatePages.lua" and the "dummy" preview file can now be deleted, since they are no longer needed.  I save them so that I may simply overwrite them the next time I need to create a customized template.
Enjoy, and please share any clarifications, corrections, or enhancements to my process.

This post was great!  Thank you so much.  But I am hoping you know one more thing related to this.  In the "transform" section of the definition (where the x/y coordinates are set along with height and width) there is an option called "angle".  I was hoping that changing this value would allow me to offset the angle of the picture.  However, if I put any value there other than 0 the template becomes unusable.
Do you happen to know what this option does?
I haven't looked into the files, so this is just a guess based on how some graphic applications work. It's common to think of rotating a shape as pivoting around a center point, but It's possible that the file sets a value for the rotation point not at the center. In some graphics applications, you can set a shape's pivot at any corner or in the middle of any side, of the rectangle that contains the whole shape.
So, your value may be rotating the shape around a pivot that moves the shape into some area that upsets the behavior of other shapes. Just a thought.

Peter's point is a good one.  I would also assume that the "angle" property allows you to rotate an image, but I haven't tried it myself.  One thing to investigate - are there any page templates included in LR that have image placeholders that are at an angle (I don't recall any, off-hand)?  If so, looking at the associated .lua file could provide insight into how an angled image placeholder should be described.

  • Can you change the background colors in templates on Pages?

I love the newsletter templates in Pages, but I can't figure out a way to change the background color. I am supposed to use specific colors so I was hoping there was a way to change the background colors in some of the tables. Is there a way?

Hi, yes, I clicked the box that I wanted to change the background in. I made sure that the correct box was selected and not the text box on top of it. Then I clicked Fill on the top bar and selected the color that I wanted to change it to. I only wanted to change the color in certain boxes - I didn't want to change the entire background of the newsletter template. I hope I explained this ok
