Old desktop keeps returning after I close a program

After upgrading to Lion from Snow Leopard and restarting the old desktop came up. I can launch Launch pad from the doc and it gives me a desktop like the iPad or IPhone I can open programs but when I close the program Launch pad closes as well and the desk top returns to the Snow Leopard version.
Any ideas??

The workspace I set up is also gone. I have every explorer box and cleaner checked to save recent. Had to disable nivedia desktop software because of weird display conflict. Self-solved! I work in column view in Finder so get there in a Finder window with folders and files appearing.
There really is no problem, just select an ITEM in the COLUMN before right-clicking!
The "old" context menu will appear. If you click in the white space in that column (or anywhere in a Finder window) and then place the cursor over a folder or file WITHOUT selecting it and right-click you will bring up the secondary context menu - Open, Copy, Duplicate, View Options and a greyed out Labels option. No "Move to Trash".

PowerMac Desktop keeps rebooting after Software Update (Java, security, QT)

Since my Software Update through Apple yesterday, my Desktop keeps "rebooting" every minute or so. Any ideas?

Mine is doing that too. I posted a couple hours ago asking the same thing, and nobody has answered me either. If someone gets back to me before you, I'll let you know, and if you could do the same that would be great!

Desktop Manager sync issues: windows closes the program

I have Windows Vista and my BB Desktop manager is v4.5. In the past 2 weeks I have been unable to sync my BB 8330 as windows closes the program after it compares the calendar in outlook and tells me I have an app crash. I have read all the threads and instructions to remedy this problem, and have tried each solution, but to no avail. I'm at a loss as to what to do now.

I have reread the entire post and I've got to tell you I missed the most important part.
Windows closes the program and Windows tells you there is a APPCRASH which is why there
is no reference to it in the knowledgebase.

Duplicate iPhone events keep returning after numerous syncs

I made the mistake of trying to sync my iPhone calendar and contacts with my laptop via iCloud. It didn't work properly and I reversed it. However, since then when I sync my phone with my desktop via iTunes, all my calendar events prior to the end of the iCloud sync are duplicated. I've used iTunes to wipe the phone calendar then attempted to replace all calendar info on my phone with iCal on my desktop as per the Advanced sync in iTunes. The dupes return. Also, new contact entries from Address Book aren't transferring to my phone and the sync is very slow. Any ideas?

Very Common problem. I'm assuming you also own a iPhone or iPad, and are syncing it to MobileMe. It's happened to me several times, and I fixed it by doing the following. Assuming you are syncing devices with MobileMe, Mount your portables in iTunes. Select Device in left column. Select Info Tab. Deselect Sync Address, and ICal Calendars. Close up and wait for next sync. Your second group should disappear. Hope this works for you.

Premiere and After Effects keep running after you close them

After I upgraded to Premiere and After Effects CC2014 I noticed that the programs kept running in the background when I closed them. Sometimes the program's wouldn't start or shutdown seconds after starting. In After Effects I noticed that multi-processor rendering was slow. CPU utilisation would alternate between 60% and 99%. I didn't have this problems with the previous CC.
After alot of research and contacting Adobe support I found out that a simple program I had been using for ages called "ObjectDock" was causing all these problems. Without ObjectDock, everything runs smooth. I thought I'd share this with others who might face similar issues.

ITunes keeps opening after I close it?

This is after I downloaded iOS5. Apparently, it has to do with Dashboard Widgets, but I'm a Vista user, and I have no dashboard. I turned off 'sync with this iPod over wi-fi', and I also turned off 'Open iTunes when this iPod is connected". It's still opening. I'm usre lots of other people have this problem too.

My desktop keeps resetting after installing OS Maverick.

My desktop resets every 2-3 min. It goes black for 1 second, then comes back up, opening the previous window I was working in. How can that be, and how can I fix that?

My profile keeps disappearing after I close Firefox. In order to open it back up, I have to keep re-creating a new one. How to fix?

I've already uninstalled, and reinstalled Firefox, and no dice. If I don't re-create the new profile, I get the error message that the profile is missing or inaccessible when trying to open firefox. I have to open the browser by clicking on the new profile I just created in the profile manager box.

This can be caused by a problem with the profiles.ini file.
It is probably best to delete the profiles.ini file to force Firefox to create a new default profile

ITunes keeps opening after I close it, how do I get it to stop?

I've tried unplugging peripherals, disabling applets, changing msconfig, disabling auto-sync when iPod is plugged in.
Nothing works to get it to stop I found and it's annoying. The only way I can get it to stop is to force the shut down by ending the process in the task manager.
My system runs off of Windows 7 64-bit

My emails keep returning after deleting on iPad

I have two accounts on my iPad. One is a POP with telstra and another that works just as it should. The telstra email account will allow me to delete emails but then they come back every time i check for new emails?

Try a reset ...
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
No data is lost due to a reset.

Deleted mail keeps returning gmail

Deleted email in Gmail keep returning after I delete them from my junk mail. I'm running Mail Version 7.3 (1878.6) and OS X 10.9.4.
I've seen older posts on the Apple Community pages outlining the same problems. I've tried the various solutions: CMD X (cut), delete/reinstall Gmail, delete originals from Gmail account, etc. None of this works, and the now the list of old/deleted emails is growing by the week.
Anyone got any ideas? And why did Apple never address this problem in any of its updates?

After I close Firefox, then later try to open, message says it is still running. Check app mgr and does not show Firefox running. Try to open again and message says already running.

It seems Firefox keeps running after I close it. When I try to open browser, message says it is running and tells me to close it. I check Task Manager and it does NOT indicate Firefox is running. Unable to open Firefox at all. Have to shut down entire computer and sometimes this works. Anyone have this problem before?

When you go to task manager, go to the "processes" tab, right click on "firefox.exe," and select "end process tree." In the picture I've attached, I'm using windows 8, so the UI is a little different, but I hope it points you in the right direction.

Desktop/Finder keeps rebooting after upgraded to Maverick (mac mini hooked up to a home theater system)

My desktop keeps rebooting ever since I upgraded to Mavericks.
Current setup, Mac Mini hooked up to home theater (Panasonic SC-HTB20) that is then hooked up to my Panasonic Plasma TV.
I usually leave my Mac Mini on running and at least once a day when I turn on the TV I can see that my desktop was rebooted. Firefox and Chrome will say that it wasn't shut down properly and if I want to restore my previous session. Also some times when I switched the input to watch TV and switch back, all my windows will be scattered out of place. For example Chrome will be in the top left hand corner to the point that it's almost minimized and I wouldn't be able to move it as well. Only thing I can do is close out these applications and relaunch them. It doesn't appear that the OS actually crashed, but more like the desktop/finder itself crashed. Cause once in a while I will switch back or turn on the TV and the screen will stay black for a few minutes then I'll see the cursor in the top right hand corner. After that I will start to see the desktop and my application start loading. It doesn't go through the regular process of rebooting where you see the Apple logo so I don't think the OS actually crashed but I could be wrong.
For some reason it seems like Maverick doesn't like the home theater system. An almost guarantee way to reproduce the issue is to wait for the home theater to turn off after it's been inactive for a while. If I turn it on the home theater to have the audio coming from it I will see the desktop goes black immediately then the whole desktop reboot process I mentioned above will kick in.
Never had any of these issues on 10.7 before I upgraded to Maverick.
Anybody have any suggestion? I really don't want to format and downgrade back to 10.7.

If you post the report we could have a go at deciphering it.
It would be in /Library/Logs/Diagnostic Reports.
