OLE Containers in Oracle Forms 6i

Hello,
We have an Oracle Forms 6i application which stores a large number of documents in LONG RAW columns in Oracle 10g using serialized OLE Container objects. Is there a way to automate the extraction of those documents (PDF and DOC) from the database to the file system?
Edited by: rpetrk1 on Jul 11, 2012 5:03 PM

If all you want to do is extract the documents from the Long Raw columns, you can use UTL_FILE to extract the binary content to the file system. You would have to loop through the records in your table to extract each file. Take a look at article Export BLOB Contents Using UTL_FILE that I googled. Granted, this article discusses exporting a BLOB not a Long Raw, but the concept is the same and you should be able to modify the code sample in the article to work with your Long Raw columns.
Hope this helps,

  • Import OLE methods in Oracle Forms 6i

    Hi,
    I am experiencing some problems to import OLE methods in Oracle
    Forms 6i.
    In Forms 6i, I select Program->Import OLE Library Interfaces
    menu option. After the Import OLE Library Interfaces dialog box
    appears, I can see the OLE Class that I would like to access
    but none of its methods or events.
    Why the methods and events do not appear?
    Thanks in advance.

  • OLE Controls in Oracle Forms 6

    Env: Oracle 8xi, Forms 6, Attachmate Infoconnect OCX, Windows 2000
    Hey All,
    I am looking for general information on using Oracle Forms PL*SQL Library
    for OLE2 to access and utilize a 3rd party Ole Control. I have a short-term
    gig doing this and with the exception of how to utilize the properties and
    methods of a 3rd Party OCX, I am a fish out of water when it comes to Oracle
    development. I can embedded and utilize the control in VB and VC++ with no
    problems but I need some help on how to embedded an OCX into an Oracle Form
    and instantiate and use it through PL*SQL and the Oracle OLE2 Library. There
    is no documentation on how to do this with Oracle from Attachmate. According
    to Oracle you can use a 32 bit OCX in an Oracle form. I just need
    a little help on how to do it.Any code snippets, book reccommedations, sites, or advice as to where to
    look would be helpful.
    Additionally, I am looking for anyone who has specific experience in using
    Attachemate's Infoconnect OCX. Any info you could share would be
    appreciated. Thanks for any help you can provide!

  • WebUtil  - oracle.forms.webutil.ole.oleFunctions bean not found.

    All,
    We're using webutil 1.0.6 on forms 9.0.4. Stuck up with the following error at runtime 'oracle.forms.webutil.ole.oleFunctions bean not found.'.
    In metalink, we noticed that webutil 1.0.6 should't be used with 9.0.4 unless some modification made on PLL. Unfortunately in OTN we can't find webutil 1.0.5 source version.
    Anyone please tell us from where we can get WebUtil 1.0.5 source or how can we solve this problem.
    Thank you very much.

  • Oracle.forms.webutil.ole.OleFunctions class not found

    Hi all,
    I am getting oracle.forms.webutil.ole.OleFunctions class not found at design time in Forms Builder 10gR2 as well as at run time when working with webutil. Webutil is properly configured. I am using file uploading and downloading and it is working fine. but when I m working with CLIENT_OLE2, it is giving class not found exception. Can someone please help me to identify the problem.
    Thanks in advance

    hi
    Forms [32 Bit] Version 10.1.2.0.2 (Production in this version the webutil is already installed but u have to sign jars and there is also some modifications
    in formsweb.cfg.
    please check this.
    How to get up and running with WebUtil 1.06 included with Oracle Developer Suite 10.1.2.0.2 on a win32 platform
    Solution
    Assuming a fresh "Complete" install of Oracle Developer Suite 10.1.2.0.2,
    here are steps to get a small test form running, using WebUtil 1.06.
    Note: [OraHome] is used as an alias for your real oDS ORACLE_HOME.
    Feel free to copy this note to a text editor, and do a global find/replace on
    [OraHome] with your actual value (no trailing slash). Then it is easy to
    copy/paste actual commands to be executed from the note copy.
    1) Download http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/jacob-project/jacob_18.zip
      and extract to a temporary staging area. Do not attempt to use 1.7 or 1.9.
    2) Copy or move jacob.jar and jacob.dll
      [JacobStage] is the folder where you extracted Jacob, and will end in ...\jacob_18
         cd [JacobStage]
         copy jacob.jar [OraHome]\forms\java\.
         copy jacob.dll [OraHome]\forms\webutil\.
      The Jacob staging area is no longer needed, and may be deleted.
    3) Sign frmwebutil.jar and jacob.jar
      Open a DOS command prompt.
      Add [OraHome]\jdk\bin to the PATH:
         set PATH=[OraHome]\jdk\bin;%PATH%
      Sign the files, and check the output for success:
         [OraHome]\forms\webutil\sign_webutil [OraHome]\forms\java\frmwebutil.jar
         [OraHome]\forms\webutil\sign_webutil [OraHome]\forms\java\jacob.jar
    4) If you already have a schema in your RDBMS which contains the WebUtil stored code,
      you may skip this step. Otherwise,
      Create a schema to hold the WebUtil stored code, and privileges needed to
      connect and create a stored package. Schema name "WEBUTIL" is recommended
      for no reason other than consistency over the user base.
      Open [OraHome]\forms\create_webutil_db.sql in a text editor, and delete or comment
      out the EXIT statement, to be able to see whether the objects were created witout
      errors.
      Start SQL*Plus as SYSTEM, and issue:
         CREATE USER webutil IDENTIFIED BY [password]
         DEFAULT TABLESPACE users
         TEMPORARY TABLESPACE temp;
         GRANT CONNECT, CREATE PROCEDURE, CREATE PUBLIC SYNONYM TO webutil;
         CONNECT webutil/[password]@[connectstring]
         @[OraHome]\forms\create_webutil_db.sql
         -- Inspect SQL*Plus output for errors, and then
         CREATE PUBLIC SYNONYM webutil_db FOR webutil.webutil_db;
      Reconnect as SYSTEM, and issue:
         grant execute on webutil_db to public;
    5) Modify [OraHome]\forms\server\default.env, and append [OraHome]\jdk\jre\lib\rt.jar
      to the CLASSPATH entry.
    6) Start the OC4J instance
    7) Start Forms Builder and connect to a schema in the RDBMS used in step (4).
      Open webutil.pll, do a "Compile ALL" (shift-Control-K), and generate to PLX (Control-T).
      It is important to generate the PLX, to avoid the FRM-40039 discussed in
      Note 303682.1
      If the PLX is not generated, the Webutil.pll library would have to be attached with
      full path information to all forms wishing to use WebUtil. This is NOT recommended.
    8) Create a new FMB.
      Open webutil.olb, and Subclass (not Copy) the Webutil object to the form.
      There is no need to Subclass the WebutilConfig object.
      Attach the Webutil.pll Library, and remove the path.
      Add an ON-LOGON trigger with the code
             NULL;
      to avoid having to connect to an RDBMS (optional).
      Create a new button on a new canvas, with the code
             show_webutil_information (TRUE);
      in a WHEN-BUTTON-PRESSED trigger.
      Compile the FMB to FMX, after doing a Compile-All (Shift-Control-K).
    9) Under Edit->Preferences->Runtime in Forms Builder, click on "Reset to Default" if
      the "Application Server URL" is empty.
      Then append "?config=webutil" at the end, so you end up with a URL of the form
          http://server:port/forms/frmservlet?config=webutil
    10) Run your form.sarah

  • How to migrate OLE-Containers from 6i to 9i

    Hello,
    We have an application developed in Client-Server that uses ole-containers to store documents(.doc,.xls,.gif, and others) in a long raw field. Our problem is that in forms 9i the ole-container component has been removed. How can we replace this component ?. We don't know anything about JAVA.
    Thanks.

    It's never to late to start learning a little Java, after all its just another programming language.
    For most of what you need to do a basic knowledge of Java will be required, and you can get it from any "java in 7 days book". You won't need to learn EJB,JSP Servlet yet though.
    You can create the doc,excel files using either the technique explained in the OLE on the Web paper that you can read here: http://otn.oracle.com/products/forms/pdf/ClientSideOLE.pdf
    Or you can use Java equivalents like the Jakarta POI project which gives you Java routines to create this files. http://jakarta.apache.org/poi/index.html
    You can create the files on the server and use a Java routine to load them into the database.
    Chapter 5 here for example: http://otn.oracle.com/tech/java/sqlj_jdbc/pdf/a96655.pdf
    or some other examples here: http://otn.oracle.com/sample_code/tech/java/sqlj_jdbc/files/9i_jdbc/content.html

  • Is there any way to set a calendar event in MS Outlook from Oracle Forms

    I need to set and delete events in MS Outlook from an Oracle Form (version 10gR2).
    Is there any way to accomplish this?
    Thanks

    You will need to use OLE on the client, which would further require the use of WebUtil. Here (below) are a couple of MS examples that you would need to convert to pl/sql. There are a variety of Oracle notes which discuss reading and writing to MS Word and Excel. These can likely be used as a starting place to talk to Outlook. There is a WebUtil demo which includes an example of how to write to MS Word. It can be found on the WebUtil home page:

  • How to implement the spell check in oracle forms 10g or 6i...

    How to implement the spell check in oracle forms.
    Is there any different method is there.
    Please help me....
    Praveen.K

    Here is one different from Jspell..
    In 6i client/server you can call MS Word spell checker using OLE. Below sample code for 6i.
    For 10g you will need webutil to use same code. install webutil and just replace "OLE2." with "CLIENT_OLE2."
    PROCEDURE spell_check (item_name IN VARCHAR2)
    IS
       my_application   ole2.obj_type;
       my_documents     ole2.obj_type;
       my_document      ole2.obj_type;
       my_selection     ole2.obj_type;
       get_spell        ole2.obj_type;
       my_spell         ole2.obj_type;
       args             ole2.list_type;
       spell_checked    VARCHAR2 (4000);
       orig_text        VARCHAR2 (4000);
    BEGIN
       orig_text := NAME_IN (item_name);
       my_application := ole2.create_obj ('WORD.APPLICATION');
       ole2.set_property (my_application, 'VISIBLE', FALSE);
       my_documents := ole2.get_obj_property (my_application, 'DOCUMENTS');
       my_document := ole2.invoke_obj (my_documents, 'ADD');
       my_selection := ole2.get_obj_property (my_application, 'SELECTION');
       ole2.set_property (my_selection, 'TEXT', orig_text);
       get_spell :=ole2.get_obj_property (my_application, 'ACTIVEDOCUMENT');
       ole2.invoke (get_spell, 'CHECKSPELLING');
       ole2.invoke (my_selection, 'WholeStory');
       ole2.invoke (my_selection, 'Copy');
       spell_checked := ole2.get_char_property (my_selection, 'TEXT');
       spell_checked :=SUBSTR (REPLACE (spell_checked, CHR (13), CHR (10)),1,LENGTH (spell_checked));
       COPY (spell_checked, item_name);
       args := ole2.create_arglist;
       ole2.add_arg (args, 0);
       ole2.invoke (my_document, 'CLOSE', args);
       ole2.destroy_arglist (args);
       ole2.RELEASE_OBJ (my_selection);
       ole2.RELEASE_OBJ (get_spell);
       ole2.RELEASE_OBJ (my_document);
       ole2.RELEASE_OBJ (my_documents);
       ole2.invoke (my_application, 'QUIT');
       ole2.RELEASE_OBJ (my_application);
    END;Call it like this: SPELL_CHECK ('BLOCK.MY_TEXT_ITEM' );

    You cannot use Internet Explorer on Windows Vista to run Web Forms.
    <p>But you CAN run web forms through Netscape or Firefox. But you first need to disable Java in the browser.
    <p>And to run OC4J on Vista, you need to set its compatibility mode to Windows XP.
    <p>See my notes on OC4J and "Browser Settings" in this thread:<br>
