Olympus OMD EM5 RAW support

I'm sure I'm being a bit premature but when could we possible see support for the Olympus OM-D EM-5?  The camera is getting in the hands of the consumer (I now have one WOOHOO) and would love to have LR support it

The original thread was about raw support, and your first post out of the blue almost three years later, merely said "2 years and still nothing..." so a reasonable person might consider it an uncalled for troll post in itself, since it was an unspecific negative reply and clearly false in the context of the original thread it was replying to.
Now that you've explained a little more, the initial question could have been something more like "Why doesn't my Olympus OM-D E-M5 have selectable lens profiles after more than two years of its raws being supported?"
The answer to that is simple:  The selectable lens profiles in your screenshot are for DSLRs not mirrorless cameras because mirrorless cameras have built-in lens support that is always on with no need to select a profile.
The reason lens support is built in for mirrorless cameras like your Olympus and not DSLRs is that mirrorless cameras have had lens corrections already applied on the fly by internal camera software before the image is shown on the LCD panel at the back of the camera and also applied to any JPGs the camera produces, so you never actually see the uncorrected image.  Adobe products also apply this same lens profile to their onscreen and exported/saved output from LR and Photoshop so you never see the uncorrected version.
DSLRs have selectable profiles because there is an entirely optical path via mirrors and prisms from the lens to the viewfinder without any internal camera processing, so the photographer actually sees the uncorrected image, and as such Adobe products make the correction of it optional, with selectable lens profiles, that can be turned off in case the photographer meant their composition to be exactly what the optical viewfinder showed.
To help address the confusion about whether mirrorless cameras have lens profiles or not, Photoshop’s ACR 8.4 and newer will indicate lens support has been built in, but there wasn’t any UI change mid-version-stream in LR 5 to add this information.   ACR 8.x is part of Adobe cloud releases that promises continuous development so it makes sense Adobe adds something to the UI as soon as it was available, whereas LR isn't a cloud product so users have to wait until a new payfor upgrade to have functionality changes, other than new camera support.  One would hope that Adobe adds this information to LR 6 to avoid confusion.
Here is an example of the information that PS/ACR shows in the lens correction area for a built-in profile.  This isn't your Olympus but the idea is the same:
For reference, here is what the uncorrected image looks like if you open it in a raw converter that doesn't have the lens profiles applied automatically, in this case raw analysis software, RawDigger:

  • RAW support for Olympus OMD EM5

Outfitting for a year long back pack trip. My MacBook Pro is going. Am in processof purchasing an Olympus OMD EM5 micro 4/3 camera for the trip. I use Aperture for photo processing. Any idea when or if  Aperture will add support for developing the RAW shots from the EM5?
    thnx

The usual interim approach for raw support has been to use Adobe's DNG converter to create DNGs that Aperture could read. This has always worked with the esception of non-Bayer sensors like the Foveon in Sigma cameras. But I can't get Aperure to read DNGs created from my E-M5's ORFs using DNG Converter v6.7 and have no idea where the problem lies.
It's taken Apple months to support Olympus cameras in the past, so I'm not optimistic.

  • Process Version 2012 for photos taken with Olympus OMD EM5

I have just purchased an Olympus OMD EM5. When I download images to Lightroom (v4.4) I have to manually convert to Process 2012. Am I doing something wrong? Why does this not happen automatically?

I can't tell you why it is doing that.  Are you applying a preset on import that includes the older PV?  Just a suggestion; you could create a preset that applies to the 2012 PV when images are imported.
Pardon my ignorance, but does that camera shoot DNG natively?  If it does, I wonder if it is using an older spec.  Don't know anything at all about this, just wondering.

  • Olympus e-m1 RAW support ETA

Just wondering what the timeline might be for RAW support for my new Olympus OMD E-M1?

Wait and see - Apple never announces this in advance.

  • Olympus E-P3 Raw Support Question

I recently purchased an Olympus E-P3. I thought that Aperture supported Raw format with this camera (at least according to Apple's own statements, it is supposed to be supported). But I loaded photos from my Olympus into Aperture and it just gave me a message that there were unsupported files and it did not import any of the raw files.
So, does Aperture 3 support Olympus Raw or not? I read in other places that people were having to manually tell Aperture to reprocess files and somehow that worked. But I thought Raw support meant that raw files would upload directly into Aperture.
What exactly does "raw support" mean if Aperture doesn't recognize Olympus ORF files?
    Thanks.
    Aperture 3.2.2
Yes I just updated all my software including Aperture Raw support

Looking at this page OS X Lion: Supported digital camera RAW formats the Olympus PEN E-P3 is show as supported by 10.7.2 so a few last things I can think to try:
One is to do the steps listed in Aperture 3: Troubleshooting Basics. Doesn;t seem like this would be a library problem but you never know and the procedures don;t take much time.
Would be to create a new library and try to import a RAW file into that just to try and narrow down where the problem is.
Would be to create a new user on your system, log in as that user, run Aperture and try to import a RAW file for the same reason.
Would be to post  RAW file on the net somewhere like dropbox so one of us could test it out on our systems to see if it behaves any differently.
Finally a call to Apple to find out whats going on.
    good luck
    regards

  • Olympus E-M10 RAW support?

Anyone knows a way to get Aperture to recognize Olympus O-MD E-M10 RAW files?
For some reason Raw files apear like a black sqare...
    Thank you.

What does this script do and why would I need to save and reimport them later with raw support?
The script modifies the exif tag CameraType2 to 'E-M1' on your photos and fools Aperture into believing your photos have been taken by the O-MD E-M1.  This camera is supported, and so Aperture will use the camera specific settings for the OM1 to develope the RAW:

  • Olympus E-P1 RAW support?

Anybody have any idea how long it will take to get RAW support for the Olympus E-P1?

I've found that you can change E-P1 files so that Aperture will import them. Make backups of your files first, obviously.
Get hold of Hex Fiend (I'm a sucker for a silly name) http://ridiculousfish.com/hexfiend/
In Hex Fiend open the E-P1 .ORF file you want to import
Hit Apple-F or Find... from the edit menu
In the top box put E-P1 (make sure the ASCII box not the Hex box is checked)
In the bottom box put E-30 (again, make sure the ASCII box not the Hex box is checked)
Press Next then press Replace, there's only one string that needs changing.
    Close the search box.
Hit Apple-S or Save... from the file menu.
Voila. You can now import that raw file into Aperture.
Obviously that's not very useful because you don't want to be going through that rigmarole with loads of images. But at least it means you can compare the Aperture Raw conversion with other options. <Edited by Host>

  • Mac, Photoshop Elements 4.3.1 and Olympus E-3 RAW support

I am running MAC OS 10.3.9 on my computer. I have updated Photoshop Elements to version 4.01 and installed Camera Raw version 4.3.1 as per Adobe installation guide (Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/CS2/File Formats). I have also purged the cache via Adobe Bridge. Am still unable to open olympus raw files. All I have is a generic type of icon where my E-1 and E-3 raw files are located. Any help to solve my problem will be much appreciated.
    Mike

That is to be expected. ACR uses a different methodology from other converters to produce its profiles.
This is the process if you are interested: http://inside-lightroom.com/profiling.php
For Calibration you might want to look at the Fors Script http://fors.net/chromoholics/index.php or the Rags Script http://www.rags-int-inc.com/PhotoTechStuff/AcrCalibration/ and also the original article by Bruce Fraser.
For colour profiles you might like to try Huelight as well http://www.huelight.com

  • Olympus E3 Camera Raw support

Any idea when the new compressed Olympus raw format for the E3 will be available for Photoshop CS2 and Lightroom 1.2?

When Adobe releases an update to the DNG converter (this happens at the time as ACR) which supports the E3.
Use the DNG converter to change the orf files to dng which can then be opened by ACR V3.7 in PS CS2.

  • OMD-EM5 raw files do not upload onto my macbook air

    hello --
before heading to china to study i bought a macbook air so that i could easily store my photographs onto a lightweight "laptop." i have a macbook pro at home and have not had issues uplaoding raw and jpeg files onto that. my macbook air only takes the jpeg files and yet i know i have my camera settings correct. i have checked multiple times. do any of you know what i may have to do to get both the raw (."orf) and jpeg files into my finder folders?
i'd appreciate any input and hope that something works.
    in advance, thank you! --

I just downloaded Adobe XI onto my macbook air and now I cannot save or print any PDF files. Will not let me do Print-Save as PDF, and if i do Save as i get a message saying that the file is corrupted. I had NO PROBLEMS at all doing this many times until i downloaded the new version. I have uninstalled and reinstalled, to no avail. I am super frustrated.
Print>Save as PDF - uses Preview (part of OS X), so Adobe Reader should have no effect on that at all.
As to the "damaged file" error, simply uninstalling the Reader app won't affect it. Do the following:
    Mac HD/Library/Internet Plug-ins
Trash the AdobePDFViewer.plugin and AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin files
    Mac HD/Applications
    Trash the Adobe Reader app
    [user]/Library/Preferences
    Trash the com.adobe.Reader.plist file
To access the [user]/Library, hold the "Option" key and click "Go" from the FInder menu.
    Mac HD/Library/Application Support/Adobe
Trash the Reader folder (the whole folder)
    Empty the Trash.
Download the FULL installer here: http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
Quit your browser and reinstall Reader.
Launch it from the Applications folder and accept the license agreement.
You should have no problems downloading PDFs with Safari.
Unfortunately, ANY PDF that says it's damaged.... is. You'll have to trash them.

  • Olympus C-5050 raw support workaround

    Followed the workaround found here
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3038880&#3038880
but it no longer seems to work.
Is anyone still successfully using this workaround with a 5050 (or other unsupported formats)?

Adobe DNG Converter supports the C-5050. This is the minimum-hassle route if you want to shoot RAW and process the images in Aperture.
One way to set up your workflow is to use the program to read the files from your CF card, convert them to DNG, and write them to a scratch directory on your hard drive. Then, import them into Aperture from the scratch directory.

  • Aperture Olympus E-PL2 Raw Color Distortion and other issues

Hello there, Olympus Micro Four Thirds Fans!
So finally, Apple introduced Olympus E-PL2 Raw Support in Aperture 3. After some testing and troubleshooting there are still some issues remaining that sort of still leave the Raw option unusable for me:
The Apple Raw developer does not seam to read Olympus gradation curve settings properly. I usually leave the cameras color mode to "natural" which in JPEG gives the Olympus-typical beautiful documentary-style color accuracy. However, in Raw, colors get distorted in the most unpleasant way! Especially the greens get horribly oversaturated.
Noise reduction settings also are not correctly translated. I'm the type of Raw user who always wants to start from the camera settings chosen and who then wants to be able to tweak settings to perfection just a little bit. But all in all I chose an Olympus camera, because it does deliver superb white balance metering, decent noise reduction and beautiful color gradation right out-of-the-box.
SPEED! Aperture seems to be horribly horribly slow with Olympus .orf files. Lightroom is easily ten times faster in real-time developing of Raw files.
Did someone observe the same behaviour? How do you work around these issues, what is the best setup for the apple raw developer?
    Greetings from Esslingen am Neckar!

    Hi there!
I am now developing my raw files with Olympus Viewer. It is the only software solution that would deliver results close or identical to Olymus built in JPEG engine. Most of the time I need to get color reproduction that is as subtle and fine as the Olympus engine, but I do want to benefit from all the other postprocessing advantages that RAW has to offer.
Within Aperture I have not been able to get comparable color rendering.

  • Raw support for Olympus OMD E-M10, When ?

I purchased a Olympus OMD E-M10 camera few weeks ago. Bad surprise when I loaded my shoots in Aperture ... Raw files not supoorted !
After the 5.05 update for raw compatibilty ... again a bad surprise ! The Olympus OMD E-M10 is not in the list of supported cameras :-(
When my E-M10 will be supported by Aperture ??????

This is always true when a new camera is introduced.
    I own the OM-D10.
My work around is to shoot in Raw + JpegSF. Import both into Aperture and set Jpeg as master.
If I need to use the Raw, I go to Olympus View 3. So far the Jpeg's have been perfect for my use. Please note that you have to go to a sub-menu to activae JpegSF.
Another website compared using Adobe's Raw converter to Olympus View 3 converter for OM-D1 files. The Olympus conversion was far superior.
So I do want Aperture Raw support. However, I am not sure how much I will use it.

  • What level of Elements will support Olympus OMD-M-5 Raw Files (.ORF) ??

What level of Elements will support Olympus OMD-M-5 Raw Files (.ORF) ??

Yes it is the OM-D E-M5 Newly purchased. Love the camera but don't like the Olympus software.
I have Elements 7, but have previously been a Canon user and have hitherto used Canon DPP software to process my CR2 Raw files.
