On a MacBook Air, how can I choose to lock my computer when I walk away from it for a little while to ensure no one can have access to it?

I have heard of something called Keychain but am so far unable to find out how to use it properly.

Just close the lid and have it set to "sleep" when this is done, and set a password to your user account.
If you mean to automatically do this when you leave it unattended for bit go to system preferences and set it to display sleep after whatever amount of time you prefer, then make sure it's set to require password on wakeup
I do these and they work fine

Connect the two Macs together (network, firewire target mode, etc)  or use an external hard drive formed Mac OS extended (journaled) and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity from the old Mac to the pictures folder of the new Mac - launch iPhoto on the new mac and it will open the library and convert it as needed and you will be ready move forward.

If you have admin privileges create a new User account so you start fresh or you can go to System Preferences > iCloud and sign out using his ID and sign in with your ID. I suggest moving to a new User.
    CREATE A NEW USER
Go to System Preferences --> Create a New User in Users & Groups. Give it Admin rights
Switch to the New User by logging out under the Apple in the Menu Bar.
Delete the previous account after you have moved your personal files over to the new User via the Shared folder.

  • My macbook air does not automatcially connect to wifi any longer when i turn on from sleep, how can i make it connect automatically again

My macbook air will no longer connect to my wifi automatically, I have changed the preferences to automatically selecr known networks but everytime i open the macbook air or after i restart the macbook, i will need to manually l select the wifi. How do I re-config to automatically connect to my wifi. Thanks

Test after taking each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Back up all data before making any changes.
    1. Make sure the network is on the preferred list by following these instructions. It's important to read the article carefully, as it's the starting point for any further efforts to solve the problem. If you skip any of the steps, the problem may not be solved. Make sure the box marked
Remember networks this computer has joined
    is checked.
    2. Follow the instructions in this support article under the heading
Symptom: After restarting or waking from sleep, my computer might not connect to the Internet
    3. Reset the PRAM.
    4. Make a note of all your settings for Wi-Fi in the Network preference pane, then delete the connection from the connection list and recreate it with the same settings. You do this by clicking the plus-sign icon below the connection list, and selecting Wi-Fi as the interface in the sheet that opens. Select Join other network from the Network Name menu, then select your network. Enter the password when prompted and save it in the keychain.
    5. From the Location menu at the top of the Network preference pane, select Edit Locations. A sheet will drop down. Click the plus-sign button to create a new location. Give it any name you want. In the new location, set up the Wi-Fi service with the same settings you used before. Click Apply and test.
    6. Launch the Keychain Access application. Search for and delete all AirPort network password items that refer to the network. Make a note of the password first.
    7. Repair permissions on the startup volume.
    8. Turn off Bluetooth and test.
    9. Reset the System Management Controller.
    10. This step shouldn't be necessary, but has been advised by Apple Support in some cases, apparently as a workaround for a bug. Open the Energy Saver pane in System Preferences. If applicable, click the padlock icon in the lower left corner to unlock the settings. Enter your administrator login password when prompted.
Select the Power Adapter tab and uncheck the boxes marked
    Wake for Wi-Fi network access
    and
    Enable Power Nap...
if present. Then, if the computer is a MacBook, select the Battery tab and uncheck
    Enable Power Nap...
    11. Reinstall OS X.

  • I have a new Macbook Pro, how can I access my old backups from previous Macbook??

Hey, I reccently got a new Macbook Pro, because my Macbook died. How can I get access to my previous backups to get uni work and stuff from it? There is almost 2 years work of stuff on there that I need access to.
Is it also because I am now on Lion?
    cheers

Try the advice on this thread.
The problem is that you're using a different Mac.  The best approach would have been to use Setup Assistant to suck your data from the old backup into your new Mac.  Since you didn't do that, your manual approach may be the best option.

  • On MacBook Air, how can I adjust the margins on email messages?

Is there any to adjust the margins in incoming and outgoing emails?

You can only adjust fonts. Mail > Preferences > Fonts

  • Certain websites are not running on my Macbook Air how can I fix that?

I was trying to get on LouisVuitton.com and it would not load, the page would just be black.

You won't be able to do anything with that page without installing the latest Adobe Flash Player.
Download Flash Player using this URL: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
Step 3 is just advertising. Skip it.

  • MacBook Air 11" can't access Time Capsule Disk

    Hi:
I have two Minis, a MPB 13" and a MBA 11" connected to my Time Capsule. My MBP and the two Minis can access the Time Capsule disk with no problem. It's a different story for the MBA.
From the MBA, I can see my Time Capsule in Finder (Bonjour) and I can click on it, however the disk never appears. Clicking "connect as" doesn't do anything either. From Finder if I go "connect to server" and I type the IP address of my Time Capsule it connects without problems, but it won't connect with its name.
I am able to connect the disk on my other Macs from the MBA via Bonjour, just not the Time Capsule. As mentionned earlier, the Time Capsule disk is available from my other Macs and even from Windows.
I rebooted a few times and confirmed that the username/password are properly saved in the keychain of my MBA.
Any idea how to fix this?
    Thanks!

Are your other Macs connected via Wifi or ethernet? It sounds like some sort of network configuration issue. If they are connected via Wifi then I'd make sure the MBA has the same settings for it's network. Alternately I'd get rid of the keychain entry on the MBA and re-enter it to make sure it's correct. As a last resort I'd restart the Time Capsule and see if it makes a difference. I'm connecting a MBA to a Time Capsule so it should work.

It has been a very long time and it still says "Deleting account..." and i cannot close my System Preferences and if i try to exit it says "System Preferences is busy and can't be closed. Users & Groups preferences is removing a user account and Home directory."

Connect the device to the computer.
In iTunes, select the content desired to sync.
    Sync.
This is all described in the User's Guide, reading it may be a good place to start.

I have just received my second MacBook Air 11" the Wifi connection keeps dropping. Also, after 3 meters away from the rooter it keeps searching for network! It is the second try and the same issues. Will Apple ever come up with a solution? There is a program pack for the connection issue but I cannot believe that this computer wifi keeps connected only while nearby the rooter!

    Applied this update?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4611?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
If the update is installed aready, you may have to wait until OS X 10.8.5
update if and when it is relased.
    Best.
