On Demand stability

Have had X-1 on demand since 5/14/2015 in Seattle area, have had 3 techs visit and numerous calls, the system regularly has trouble logging in and requires a reset from Comcast, secondly the past 2 fridays the entire system was down. Is their any progress being made to make on demand more robust? Is this a local area issue or a total X-1 system issue?

From what I've read here today, I think it was a nationwide issue last night.  My whole X1 system was reset at least three times last night.

  • Using Struts or Spring dilemma?

    HI all,
just a query , if we want to create a huge application having around 100's of Enterprise Beans and JSP pages around 1000, which Framework one should choose or go for between Struts and Spring. I have worked on Struts it seems to be popular choice and stable. But don't even have a vague notion about Spring Framework.
Wherein the application demands stability and performance enhancement.
    Avadhoot.

Struts and Spring are two seperate frameworks , one can be used to implement View lyer using MVC and the other can contain all aspect of your application from the view to business and back end connection.
you can use Struts with spring , int this scenario struts will be the View layer and spring framework will handle other stuff like DA , Mailing , Transaction , Secrity ,....
    I can say that :
go with EJB for Business layer , Use struts for View
and use netbeans 5 as IDE , it made developing ejb stuff too easy.

  • Homeland disappeared from On Demand all of a sudden.

We were having a Homeland season 2 marathon, watching all the episodes in two days, and as soon as we reached the final episode, the whole series disappeared from the On Demand search results. We were trying to watch it right after finishing the previous episode. This happened already once just before second to last episode, but after waiting for five minutes, the show was back in the search results. However, no such luck anymore when trying to watch the final episode. The webpage for FiOS On Demand still lists Homeland season 2 as available, so it can't be that it was pulled out. What is going on here?

I am having the same problem. It started on August 11, 2014.  I get the "Your request has failed. Please try again later." message when logging into the Verizon Messaging web application.
Here is what I did to troubleshoot it:
I verified that I can log into the MyVerizon account successfully.
Verified that the feature was set up correctly.
Cleared cache and history on my browser.
Tried two different browsers - same result.
Tried a different computer - same result.
Tried from a mobile device - same result.
It is definitely on the Verizon end.  I called their tech support and of course, got no results as usual.
Verizon creates and promotes all these features, you get dependent on using them, and they stop working.  Then, of course Verizon can't resolve the issue.  I'm shopping around when my contracts are up.  For the premium price we pay for Verizon I would expect better stability and support in their service.

Ok, here are the voltage readings from BIOS
    VCore 1.456-72
    3.3V  2.944V
    +5V   5.113V
    +12V  11.437-98V

    -5V   4.926V
    Battery 3.088V
    +5SB  4.896V
(The numbers after the hyphen '-', indicate a switching value)
The multimeter reading at a molex (yellow cable) says approx +11.79V at Win XP desktop idle and 11.68V under the game. Red cable on molex shows 5.12V while idle, no drastic change under load.
Just curious, how are the general opinions about electrical
readings. should they never go below the voltage they must
feed? Or is there room for some margin the voltage can go
    below?
Havent yet tested changing videocard, will do that. Having no temperature sensors, cant check easily vga card temp.
btw, 'Apic Acpi SCI IRQ' isnt enabled in bios, is this essential?

  • Quad G5 Stability Problems / Slowness / Upgrade options?

Well, this is going to be a long post, so bear with me.
First, I'm totally Steve Job's dream. I bought the Mac Mini and it was a complete gateway drug, now I have a brand new PowerMac G5 Quadcore something or other. Okay. I use it for motion graphics work, mostly After Effects, but I've also got Final Cut Studio installed. I've had the G5 for a month now (I know it's almost obsolete by Mactel, but AE and Photoshop won't be available on Mactel for, like, eternity, so I upgraded early.)
So that's the setup. My problem is, the G5 quadcore tower is way less reliable than the Mac Mini was! The thing that impressed me about OS X and the mini was that nothing ever went wrong. I could be burning a DVD, listening to something on iTunes and doing a complex AE render, and Mac mini would figure it all out. I never had to reboot Mac mini unless a software update demanded it.
I've had two occassions now where the G5 tower completely crashed. I'll go over them in details.
The first time, I was using AE and previewing on a camcorder/TV over Firewire. So the set up is, PowerMac -> camcorder (Firewire) -> TV (S-video).
Okay, the first thing I did that might be weird is: I was running activity monitor during my AE renders to see the extent to which 4 cores were actually being used. I discovered to my surprise that even during my most complicated renders, PowerMac was only using 50% of its processing power. It engaged all 4 cores, but each of them never went over the 50% or maybe 60% utilitization. So either AE just isn't optimized, or there's an upgrade I should perform. (See details below.)
Okay, next weird thing. I put PowerMac to sleep with the camcorder still on, and woke PowerMac up a little later to continue working. Now I'd left the camcorder on this whole time. When I went back into AE and told it to preview to the Firewire again, PowerMac froze. I got the spinning beach ball. I thought, "Oh, sometimes that happen, I'll just wait and let PowerMac sort itself out." An hour later, though, I still had the spinning beach ball, so I had to reboot.
A day or so later, something similar happened. I was doing a complex render in AE. I had 20 minutes remaining. Knowing that the CPU was only used to 50%, I decided to watch the latest Channel Frederator in iTunes while the render completed. I turned iTunes to full screen mode to watch Frederator. After about ten minutes of this, I got a freaking KERNEL PANIC! I got weird text dumped at the top of the screen, and a sound sample from the Frederator I was watching was repeating over and over out of the speakers. Unfortunately I didn't think to write down the weird text.
So here (at last) are my questions:
    1. Why is PowerMac only using 50% of its CPU during renders? (Bear in mind, AE isn't GPU-enabled to my knowledge. So its renders are all CPU.) My only guess is, that the renders are memory or disk constrained. Adobe does recommend that I get a second hard drive for AE to store its temporary working files, so that AE and the OS X swap space aren't competing with each other. Does this make sense to anyone else? Also, I have 1.5 gig memory, is that too little?
    2. What is up with these crashes? This is like Windows XP land. Again, what sold me on the all-Mac graphics setup was the stability of the Mac mini.
2.a. Are there hardware diagnostics or software tests built-in to OS X that I can run to troubleshoot?
2.b. While setting up PowerMac, I copied system settings (and everything else) from Mac mini. I'm worried that there's a configuration file somewhere that's confusing PowerMac into thinking it's secretly a Mac mini or something. Of course, when I say that out loud, it sounds completely silly.
    Thanks in advance,
    -Paul
    Quad G5   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    1. Only certain filters and effects in AE are well multithreaded and can take advantage of the four cores. I use AE a lot as well, and I can tell you this is normal. What you want to consider is buying the Nucleo plug-in from Gridiron Software at http://www.gridironxfactor.com/products/nucleo_overview.asp
This plug-in will allow AE to fully utilize all four cores on almost anything you're working on, except for effects that are temporally dependent, such as Particle Playground. You need to be using AE 6.5 or 7 to use Nucleo. I bought it and it's one of the best things I could've done. However, your 1.5 GB of RAM is rather small for using AE on a Quad. I'd consider bumping the RAM up to 4 - 4.5GB or so. If you AE 7, it can utilize 3 GB of RAM (previous versions were limited to 2GB).
    2. I bet you got the beachball when you returned from sleep because the camera had also gone to sleep and didn't wake up. I imagine that if you'd turned the camera off after waking up from sleep (or power cycled the camera - turn it off and then right back on) the beachball wouldn't have occured or would have gone away. I'm pretty sure I've had this happen to me on my Quad and PowerBook, and this always solved it. Not sure as to the reasons for the KP you got when using iTunes... sorry.
2a. Your machine would have come with the Apple Hardware Test which can be used to test the hardware of your machine. It's on the restore disc that came with the computer. You'l need to boot from the CD while holding down the option key. This will present you with a list of boot options, one of which will be the AHT. For testing memory, I'd recommend using Memtest which you can get a http://www.memtestosx.com For best results, you need to start in single-user mode so that it can test as much RAM as possible.
2b. I did a clean install of all my applications and whatnot on my Quad to avoid a problem like this... It's very time consuming, though. If you're concerned about this, you could delete all the preferences files from the computer and reboot, but you'll then have to reset your prefs in all your apps, and may have reenter some serial numbers as well. In any event, I wouldn't try this unless you start to have frequent issues. My Quad has KP'd once (while using Toast, I believe), but hasn't done so since. My PowerBook has never had a kernel panic.

  • On Demand Doesn't Work

My On Demand feature is incredibly inconsistent. Sometimes it will work, but at least half the time it tells me that it us "unable to process your request" and gives me the code VOD_11:0X6. What is going on?

Any time I get any of those errors, I'll reset the router.  If that doesn't do the trick, then just reset the STB and you should be fine.  I used to get these errors all of the time, but ever since the latest 1.6.2 firmwar was released, I haven't experienced this error once.  Not sure if it's coincidence or that they changed something to help VOD stability.

  • Siebel CRM On Demand Comparison with competitors

Can anyone share the Siebel CRM On Demand competitors comparison chart details or presentation.
    Thanks!

I do not think there is any independent comparison chart. Every vendor might provide one showing their product beats everyone else. Gartner and Forester ranks CRM On Demand as the leaders in the CRM Space. They are still behind salesforce.com.
I would suggest look at the functions you are trying to achieve and see which software would make sense. CRM on Demand is on a growth curve while salesforce has stabilized in the market space. CRM on Demand has some of the key functionality from Siebel and I can see they making rapid advancements. Salesforce has lot of partners. CRMOD R16 is going to be a major release with regards to functionality. Issue with CRMOD is they never tell you when they are coming out with a new release. This kind of sux!!.
R15 of CRMOD has only 3 custom objects and R16 is expected to come out with somewhere between 8 - 30. Salesforce already has more than 30 custom objects (depending on the version).
Salesforce data center architecture has been questioned of late - since all the salesforce customers were out for 40 minutes sometime last week. This will not happen in Oracle with their Pod Structure. One pod going down wont bring all the customers down.

  • Problem with video senders and On Demand

I'm a new member although I have had BT Vision for 6 months now. So far I have been very pleased with it but I have a problem at the moment which I am hoping someone will help me resolve.
I recently bought a Nikkai 5.8 GHz sender kit which works perfectly with Freeview channels. I have a great picture and sound but when I switch to watching On Demand I can have a great picture for a couple of minutes and then I get a blue screen and a bit of stuttering of the picture then the picture goes ok again. No amount of repositioning the receiver cures this and I'm baffled as to why I have stability with the Freeview but not the ON Demand.
I know that I should be able to get the sender kit working fine with the On Demand as I previously used a Ferguson 2.4 GHz and had no problems at all except for the interference when using the laptop. The On Demand would work fine right through the evening.
Has anyone else had this problem and if so, is there a way round it? Any suggestions/advice welcome.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The Macrovision copy protection signal is present on both of the SCART outputs, and is activated whenever copy protected content is viewed.
This copy protection will interfere with the extraction on the synchronisation signals that your video sender needs, and cause loss of sync.
The Ferguson video sender may simply have ignored the copy protection if it was a few years old.
Most modern video equipment is designed not to work if copy protected content is present. Pressure on the manufacturers by copyright holders see to this.

  • Oracle Demand Planning or Demantra?

It seems fairly obvious that if you are starting out an implementation (or even part way through), you would cease implementing Oracle Demand Planning (ODP) and implement Demantra. I have read that all development work was ceased on ODP (even though some new features have been implemented in ODP R12). Further, I have read that there is no simple migration path from ODP to Demantra (due to the very different data structures).
    My questions:
    1. Do you agree with my comment about ceasing the implementation of ODP and resuming with ODP, and if not, why not?
    2. Is there any known migration path between the two products that is supported by Oracle or is a completely new implementation needed?
    3. What are the comparative costs of the two products?
    4. What are the technology stack requirements of the two products? (particulary of Demantra).
    Thanks, as always.

with regards to point 1... demantra is a better tool; it will create better forecast numbers and will provide a much more sophisticated end user experience. however the answer to your question is not always an obvious one.
firstly lets talk about finance and schedule. ceasing an implementation that is costing a large sum of money in favour of a newer product may not be the right course of action. budget alarm bells will start ringing since the delivery schedule will now be off the chart and the costs will only go up. is the implementation required to fix legacy system and data problems? if so there will be groans from the people that need the forecast numbers when they hear that the current inaccuracy will continue because some fabled "even better numbers" will be available somewhat later than promised.
what about stability? odp has it's fair share of problems but it is still much more robust than oracle demantra and depending on factors such as company size, structure, product life-cycle, forecast horizon and methodology demantra may not even provide a better solution. an r12 implementation of odp would survive for a number of years before requiring an upgrade and by then newer and better versions of oracle demantra will be available. there are a lot of customers still using odp and oracle will continue to support them.
don't forget the bigger picture and plan for the future. planning and forecasting solutions need to be flexible - whatever solution you use you should expect that it will need to evolve and part of that evolution should be a product migration. if the planners that are expected to use the new tools and process are not yet skilled at forecasting (maybe they just manipulate numbers in excel based upon weekly meetings?) then the basic approach to skills development might be as follows: start simple, then develop a more sophisticated approach and finally create a sophisticated forecasting solution (this pathway could take years). if you don't yet know the medium or advanced strategy then how can you possibly know which tool is best suited? start simple with odp knowing that in two years when you will want to move to a more advanced forecasting approach your users will understand what they want. at that point you can decide whether to stick or twist.
as for the other questions: 2 is a no. 3 & 4: don't know (sorry)
good luck and let us know what you decide.

  • Various 4G / 5G stability problems and now my iPod is USB 1.1 only!

    Hi,
I bought a brand new iPod a week or two ago and it worked fine for one sync. Then the battery was running low (because I'd been using it!) so I plugged it in and iTunes synced automatically and the battery charged. after the sync I hit "eject" in iTunes so that the battery would just charge.
I returned to find that the iPod was still mounted! Very strange. I ejected again..... and it seems that what was happening was when the iPod was ejected it simply rebooted and when it came back up was mounted automatically again!
I ejected and unplugged the iPod and it was no longer stable - I would get to the menu and almost to play a song and it would reset. It seemed like my speed was the limiting factor (i.e. the iPod would only stay up for n seconds), rather than it crashing because I tried a particular function.
I saw this unstable behaviour with my old iPod (4G, firewire on this same machine) too where I had to reflash it to get it working again reliably.
So, I reflash the (new) device with the iPod Updater software downloaded for me by Software Update. It resets, and all seems well, with the rather catastrophic exception that now the iPod is only recognised as a USB 1.1 device according to System Profiler! The transfer speed is very very slow.
This is really a bit of a showstopper for my user experience. I have tried:
    - Resetting my computer
    - Changing the cable (I have two USB2.0 cables and 1 USB2.0/Firewire cable which I have tried all of)
    - Changing USB ports (including taking ALL my USB devices away and plugging the iPod directly into the back of the desktop machine)
    - Reflashing the iPod again
    I have NOT tried:
    - re-downloading the iPod Updater from Apple and using that (I'm downloading it now)
    So.... the questions are:
    - Has the firmware updater somehow made my iPod appear to be a USB1.1 device?
    - Or is this a hardware fault and I need to return the iPod to be fixed?
    - Is this stability problem a commonly observed one?
    - If so what can I do to avoid it?
    Thanks in advance,
    Neil.

First I exported data from interactive planning , updated some data in file and again trying to upload same file.
    I am getting following error
    File cannot be uploaded
    Message no. /SAPAPO/SDP_UPLOAD009

    Procedure
Save the file again locally. Make sure that the file has the technical information.
Could u please suggest what needs to be done
    Thanks and regards,

    Hello,
For using the upload data functionality from interactive planning grid, you need to first download the data. While downloading the data, please check the check box for "Prepare the file for upload at later time", and then select the option of putting the technical setting into the file or into the system. Either way is okay. Then try uploading the same file.
    This should solve your problem.
    Thank you.

  • Unable to Stream Video on Demand files from NAS on latest version of AMS 5.0.3

    Hi,
I was hoping that someone could assist me.
Our organisation has recently purchased Adobe Media Server Standard to deploy to two Windows 2008 R2 servers (core edition) to stream flash content (video on demand only) which is resident on NAS storage.
I have considerable difficultly in streaming content from NAS and from the literature I have read and the configuration I have done it should be possible.
The steps I have taken to attempt to get this to work are as follows:
    Installation
    - Installed AMS 5.0.1 on both servers using the default TCP ports and Apache was not installed as part of the install
    - Both AMS instances upgraded to the latest release AMS 5.0.3
    - Windows Firewall on the servers disabled (we use hardware firewalls) and TCP connectivity verified by using telnet to connect these servers on 1935 and 80
    Initial Configuration
    - As we only will be using video on demand I removed the live, livepkgr and multicast applications from the /applications folder. Vod is the only application remaining
    - Using the videoplayer in the /samples/videoplayer we were successfully able to view the sample streams
    Configuration to stream from NAS
    - I modified the VOD_DIR in the ams.ini file in the /conf folder to reflect the NAS location (\\{nas FQDN\sharename}
    - Our NAS share has NTFS permissions applied and our AMS servers are joined to Active Directory. I created an AD account that had membership of the group that had read rights to the NAS share.
    - I then reconfigured the AMS windows service to Log on with the AD account (as per the install guide: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/adobemediaserver/configadmin/WS5b3ccc516d4fbf351e63e3d119f2925 e64-7fc7.2.3.html)
    Issues Experienced
    - Whenever I change the AMS windows service to use an AD user (and not the Local System account), the service will run for only a short time (time often varies) before the service stops. In the application event log the AMS (Core) component
logs the error "Failed to create process mutex".
    - The issue experienced is similar to a previous post by an FMS 3.5 user (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/650522)
    Troubleshooting:
    - To rule out a permission issue, I confirmed that the AD user created could actually read from the NAS share
    - I also gave the AD user read/write permission to the AMS install directory. I have also added the AD user to the local admin group. Still get the "Failed to create process mutex" error and service stops.
    - We created a test share on the NAS that had no restrictions set (everyone full control) and reconfigured the ams.ini to use this. The service still stops.
    - I reconfigured the ams.ini back to the default path (local storage) and attempted to start the AMS windows service with the AD account. The service still stops which seems to confirm the issue is not related to the NAS storage/permissions itself
    - I gave the servers machine account from AD read/write access to the NAS shares (both test and live shares) and reconfigured the AMS windows service to use the local system account. Whilst the windows service remains stable and runs,
      streams do not work
    - I have been testing using rtmpdump and a player (http://osmf.org/configurator/fmp/):
       - With the player the player connects and the stream remains in a "buffering state"
       - With rtmpdump we get the "NetStream.Play.StreamNotFound" error. The stream definately exists. I have the rtmpdump log file but not sure how to upload it to this post
    - The above issues/behaviour is experienced from both servers
    Workaround:
    - The only way I can get NAS streaming to work is to map the NAS share as a network drive from the server
    - On the same server I then stopped the AMS windows service and started AMS as a console application (ams.ini is pointing to the NAS location)
    - Streaming then works however this is not an exceptable workaround for a enterprise server that will be streaming content to the Internet. Having to rely on mapped network drives and console applications is certainly far from ideal.
Should it be possible to have the windows service run under the context of another account and to be able to stream without then having to have a mapped network drive?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks
    Jason
UPDATE: to add further, I have just tested this on a Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard edition with the full UI and I get the exact behaviour/problems as documented above. The issue I am experiencing is not related to the fact I am using the core edition of Windows.

    HI,
I have managed to address my issue and get this working!
When reconfiguring the AMS service to use the AD account you MUST also reconfigure the Adobe Media Administration Server to use the AD account.
This mismatch in accounts was causing the mutex issue and stopping the AMS account from running. Read access to the NAS and log on as a service right on the AMS server
was all that required for the stream from NAS to work.
If any Adobe staff read this thread - can I please request that the section on "Mapping Directories to Network Drives" in the "Configuring the Content Storage" section of the help guide (http://help.adobe.com/en_US/adobemediaserver/configadmin/adobemediaserver_5.0.3_config_adm in.pdf) be revised to be clearer as to what windows services need to be reconfigured
    to support AD authentication
    Thanks
    Jason

  • Unable to pass variables from IRPT to on demand MDO in MII v12.2

    Hi all,
Here is what I am trying to achieve - to pass an order input value from front end and fetch the results through on demand MDO.
STEP 1: Created a BLS transaction with input parameter order and tested it to get Output XML - SUCCESSFUL.
STEP 2: Created an On-Demand MDO object pointing to the BLS transaction, tested it by passing the value to input parameter in Dynamic Query Parameters - SUCCESSFUL.
STEP 3: Created an MDO Query Template in SELECT mode pointing to the MDO object created, there are 2 things which I noticed. when I pass the value to OBJECT PARAMETER, it worked fine and when I pass it to PARAMETERS it Doest not work. I just used the object parameter because it worked for me.
STEP 4: Created an Applet with MDO Query Template and Grid Display template. Tried passing the value using setParam(1, order). I found 3 different variations:
Result 1: If Object Parameter in MDO Query is not set to any default value - "No Data Available" is seen on applet.
Result 2: If Object Parameter is set to some valid default value say 123, irrespective of what I pass from UI setParam, I always see the data of 123.
Result 3: If Object Parameter is set to some valid default value say 123 and in addition to that, I add Filter expression [val1] = [ param (dot)1 ] in my MDO select query, then when I pass 123 from UI, I see the result and when I pass someother input I see empty table, however now I can see the columns with empty table.
Can someone tell me where I am going wrong?
    Any help is highly appreciated.

    Hi Michael,
I am using the ramup version 12.2 and want to explore all the new features available in 12.2 and came downloaded the example project of MII 12.2 avaiable here. while doing that I came across an example of onDemand MDO query for pulling the data from Tag quieries and making it dymanic by passing speed or quality or perfomance parameters, however it just showed me only quality results always, I coudn't test it properly because it was a tag query so I created my own scenario and it didnt work from UI as expected.
so wanted to know if I am going wrong somewhere before I conclud it is a bug.

  • TNT On Demand Unable to Sign In - Please somebody help me

This is my third plea for help.  The only reason I went with FIOS was to get Showtime On Demand and TNT On Demand.  I don't have a TV.  I watch exclusively on line.   Showtime works great.  But I am unable to log into TNT On Demand.  It did work two weeks ago using Chrome but not Microsoft Internet Explorer.  Now neither works.
In Chrome I get the following message:
This website requires the Flash 10.2 (or higher) player.
You may upgrade your Flash plug-in by visiting the Flash Download Center.
Please note you may need to reboot your system.
    I have Flash 11.6.
    Then I get this:
    Authentication Error
A timeout or configuration error caused this operation to fail. The error has been logged. Please try again.
In Microsoft Explorer I get no error messages.  I just loop over and over to the sign on screen.
TNT help and support (which is very minimal) specifically states if we are a Verizon customer to contact Verizon customer support.
If you google this problem you will see the same complaint over and over.  Then usually some Verizon person tells the customer that they will be contacted privately and I presume somehow the problem is resolved but the solution is never posted on line.
So please help me fix my problem.
I spent 45 minutes on line with someone a few days ago with no result.  But he did something so that now I have to log into Facebook, Amazon, Hulu, Verizon, etc. over and over and over and my login is never saved.  When a tech specialist changes a setting they ought to let the customer know what is being changed so the customer can undo it.  This is most annoying.
And people, responding with "my computer works fine" isn't helpful.  I know it works fine for someone else.  It doesn;t work fine for me.
Pretty soon the new episodes of TNT Monday Morning and Southland will have scrolled off and I will miss them.  I am getting desperate.
    Solved!

For TNT online with IE when I switched to compatability mode in the browser the login began to work.  Make sure your Flash settings allow for sight storage for turner.com and the adobe authorization site.  Also make sure your privacy setting always accept first party and session cookies.  I posted more details in another thread.
