On My Mac mail; where did it go?

I had to do a total  reinstall to reset some software problems. I used a G-drive back up to reinstall all of my info and applications, docs, pics, music etc. When I opened Apple Mail...my iCloud account was there...but where did my ON MY Mac mail go? I had seaved impportant mail there!

If you are lucky, you might be able to restore individual messages. To do it, open Mail and then, open the Time Machine application (in /Applications/Utilities). Then, choose the backup you want at the right and you will be able to select messages and restore them.
After restoring them, they will appear in "Recovered Messages" in the Mail sidebar, under "On my Mac"

  • Archive sent mail - Where did it go?

    Using IMAP.
My mail server has a low mail quota, so I need to Archive frequently, but I use multiple devices so leave what I can on the server.
    My archive settings are :-
Copies and folders: message archives: Keep message archives in: other: inbox 'mymail' on: Archive (Local folder)
Copies and Folders: when sending messages: automatically place a copy in: sent folder on: 'mymail@mydomain' (My IMAP) - the default.
Copies and Folders: archive options: yearly
When I select the inbox (on IMAP server), some mails, and click "archive", the mails go where expected (eg, Archive/Mymail/year/ inbox 'mymail')
When I do the same for sent items (on IMAP server), the mail just disappears.
Where does it go? How do I get it back?

  • Mail: where did the status icons go?

Here's a small thing, but it's weird. Mail used to have little icons that would spin while looking for new messages. It was a visual indicator that something was actually going on, during what would otherwise look like dead time.
Somewhere along the way, the icons disappeared. Any ideas? 2008 Mac Pro, OS 10.5.4, Mail 3.3
    Thanks,

    I figured it out.

  • Mac Mail: smpt password not being recognized

Short version: I had to update my ATT modem and this prompted me to re-establish a connection with ATT.net. Given that I never use my ATT browser mail, I called tech support for the password. Once set, I was up and running on the internet. Even received emails via MacMail, but no outbound. ATT said I needed to match the "browser-based" password with the smpt in the account settings within Mac Mail.
Did it. —>quit—>restarted—>checked for password case sensitivity and even blind spaces. I got nothin'. I gotta say ATT tech's were consistently nice over the 4 hours I dealt with four people and in the end could offer no high level tech support as they are not familiar yet with Lion. I'm pretty techie, but the simple things here are mind melting me.

Thanks for all of your responses.
I redid everything you guys mentioned and at one point I got a message that it wasn't reaching the server. The option to "resolve to server" came up (which wasn't the default option) and I clicked it for the heck of it. Sure enough, it fixed the connection. Again, what was odd was that the deault was "try again".
It's working fine now, but since I don't know what caused the disconnect in the first place, I'm hoping the connection doesn't break again, I accept a meeting, and it doesn't get added to iCal. You'd think there'd be a redundancy for .ics files where it would say:
You have responded to an invite. Would you like to add to iCal?
    [Yes] [No]
[ ] Never ask me again
Or it would there would be an option in Mail that says "Display Calendar invites as [] Attachment [] Email."
I know the preferences should take care of this, but meetings and appointments are important enough for this type of anal retentiveness.
Thanks again fo rall your help.

  • Mac Mail Will No Longer Send

Mac Mail on os 10.4.11. Stopped sending reliably about 30 days ago. Have sat thru 3 one hour phone calls with SWBell/ATT tech support. All settings passwords and ports are correct (and have not changed for years). Mail sending often (but not always) pops up the password window. Have reset and reloaded keychain and basically disabled for now as this does not appear to be the root problem) Asks me for my password but won't take it about 98% of the time. Have also deleted and reset all my accounts in mac mail. Did not help. Workaround that do work are: Going online to my Yahoo mail account and sending myself an email seems to break loose the block and lets me send at least one outgoing email after I download the incoming mail to my mac mail. Sometimes going into preferences and choosing a different account setting, Saving. Going back in and choosing the intended and neccessary account setting, Saving. will let me send one or more emails. Sometimes just waiting a few minutes and trying to send again works. Seems to work more reliably at home where I am using Roadrunner SMTP than at office where using the SWBell/ATT smtp settings. All was working great until about July/Aug. We have several computers at my office, all same OS, all same email smtp protocol...all quit sending at same time. Only thing we did was update our firefox which should have nothing to do with Mac Mail. I know we are using an old OS but our store software needs to run on these older macs so must stay on Tiger....any big ideas out there?

Hi DGMMM, and a warm welcome to the forums!
One thing that can mess up Mail is a malformed eMail on the server, might have a look through Webmail to see if there's one about that time that isn't downloading & trash it.
Are these POP or IMAP accounts?
What SMTP port are you using with AT&T?
    Are you getting this?
Mail: Can't send messages, "Cannot send message using the server smtp.xxxxx.com" alert appears...

  • Mac mail doesn't work anymore on my macbook pro bu...

I use the Mail program on my devices for email and it works fine for my btinternet mail and mac mail on my iPhone, iPad, and iMac.  However, on my macbook pro only the btinternet mail connects.  My mac mail account comes up with the following error message: "The MobileMe IMAP server “mail.mac.com” rejected the password for user..."  It works fine on all my other devices.
What's going on? How do I fix it?  It used to work fine too - this problem has only strarted relatively recently.
    thank you in advance.

I'm having similar fun lately too - Using MBP and OSX Lion has been fine up until last week when I treated myself to BT Infinity and a better online connection.
Now I have found that BT Yahoo sends a lot of my personal emails to 'Bulk' on Mac Mail whereas they used to appear in my Mail Inbox...and I thought friends were just wern't sending me emails!
Prior to Infinty the majority of my 'Bulk' was credit check/viagra/gambling junk and spam but now I have to check the Bulk Folder and/or go online to BT Yahoo WebMail just to make sure I haven't missed important emails!
    Whats happening BT?

  • Mac mail won't delete or organize messages once downloaded from icloud.

I am having issues with icloud and mac mail where once my mail downloads I can't delete messages or organinze them on my mac. I have to go to icloud to delete messages. If I delete them on my mac they just reappear again later. If I put them in my organizing folders in my mail then they get moved back to my inbox later. How do I get this fixed?

Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data before proceeding.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.
A folder window will open. Inside it there should be files with names as follows:
              Envelope Index
              ExternalUpdates.storedata
Move those files to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have longer names that begin as above. Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is damaged and that Mail has to quit. ClickOK. Typically, the process takes a few minutes, but it may take hours if you have gigantic mailboxes. In that case, you may be able to speed things up by temporarily adding your home folder to the Privacy list in the Spotlight preference pane. Remove it when Mail has finished importing.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the files you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results.

  • Mac mail is running soooo slow with Mavericks.

I have the newest 15inch i7 retina display MacBook pro and Mavericks has destroyed the speed of it. It is most evident in Mac Mail where emails take forever to load. Has anyone else experienced a similar problem? I think I am going back to Mountain Lion because with Mavericks my computer has essentially been rendered a paperweight.

Yup, same here with an iMac, 2,9 Ghz Core i5 with 16 GB of Ram. It takes several minutes for Mail to launch and display messages. During that time it sits with the spinning wheel and activity monitor reports Mail is not responding. Eventually it does come back to life, but it may be some 4 to 5 minutes later. Also selecting groups of messages with Command/A takes perhaps 10 to 15 seconds, and other things just seem pokey or don't quite work right.
In addition I lost most of my mail boxes and the mail inthem. I have been trying to import it back from a clone backup. I've been at it for about a week now trying to get everything back to where it should be.
I'd love to know just what is wrong here. I'm sure Mail isn't supposed to be working this badly in Mavericks.
I deleted Mail preferences in my library after seeing someone mention that fixed a slow mail for them. Oddly, Mail is not creating new preferences when it relaunches.

  • I have a g4 power mac and system is 10.4.11. Where do you find mac mail?

I accidentally trash mac mail and now I need to reinstall. Where
can I find mac mail. Is it on os 10.4.11 system disk. The g4 is a old computer.
    Please advice.

    HI Agnes,
Did you just delete it from the Dock?
If so look in the Applications folder.
If you deleted the real Mail.App...
    Get Pacifist...
    http://www.charlessoft.com/
then extract/install what you need from your Install Disc.
Or re-apply the big 10.4.11 Combo update...

  • Where can I find free Christmas stationery for Mac Mail version 6.2?

Where can I find free Christmas stationery for Mac Mail version 6.2 on my MacBook Pro running OS 10.8.2??? Everything I've tried to download is from 2008-2009 and isn't compatible.
    ~Patty

    Dear sig,
Thank you for responding. When I Googled, I received a list of suggested web sites, but they were all posted in 2008-2009 and, when I downloaded the application, they were not compatible with OS 10.8.2 and/or Mail 6.2. I did find an app in the App Store called "Stationery for Mail" for $6.99 (less expensive than equinux or ipresentee) that had one Christmas email template and several others for other occasions/seasons. I purchased that one so that I'd have at least one email template to use for now, but I'd love to find more templates for future use that are FREE.
I can't believe Apple hasn't created more email stationery templates for download (freeware) on its web site. I can find screensavers and wallpapers, but nothing for Mail.
If you or anyone else finds or knows of a website with FREE email stationery templates for Mail 6.2, please let me know.
    Thank you!
    ~Patty

  • Where did my mail messages go?

    Hi!
I am using Apple Mail 3 with a POP account.
On the left side, there is this mail boxes panel containing the "Inbox", "Sent", "Trash", etc.
I have created a Folder named "Work" with a number of mail boxes, each of them containing relevant mail messages. This system has been in place for many years and it worked very well so far.
Today I "right-clicked" one of the above mentioned mailboxes and changed its name and then pressed "Enter". Consequently, all the messages existing in that particular box disappeared and did not come back even if I changed the name of the box back to the original.
Where did the messages go and can I get them back?
    Thanks

    Hi Dimaxum & Ernie!
Thank you for your answers, the details and links that you pointed me to are useful. However, the only way I could solve the problem was to follow these steps:
    1. open each .mlx file individualy and send it as a mail to my gmail account.
    2. send the mails back from my gmail account to my POP account on my Mac
    3. sort the mail manually and move it to the folder where it used to be.
    4. delete the mail from gmail account.
    In answer to your questions:
    * I do not have TimeMachine running
    * The mail in question came from a POP account (the only account on my Mac)
    I consider this matter closed.
Thanks again for your suggestions and assistance.
    Regards,
    D.M.

  • Where can I see how much space mac mail is taking on my hard drive?

I have a gmail, yahoo mail and icloud mail that I access on Mac Mail.  Does it take up much space on the HD?  I'm assuming they are all stored on the web servers but where do I look on the Mac to find what space they are taking up on my Mac?

In the Finder, hold the Option key and then choose Library from the Go menu. Then locate the folder called "Mail," and get information on it and note the calculated size. In addition, do the same for the Mail Downloads folder, and these two should constitue the majority of the space used by Mail and its configured accounts.

  • Where did the 'sending mail' bar go?

I remember at some point, when I sent a msg with an attachment, there used to be a bar which would fill on the bottom lefthand side of the window showing how much of the message had been sent. Once it would fill (indicating that 100% of the msg was sent), Mail would ding and the msg would appear in my sent folder. Where oh where did this 'sent mail' bar go?
And how do I get it back?

    Hiya there,
    that should be easy:
at the bottom left (of your complete macmail window), you see a plus sign, an +arrow in a square box+ and a preferences cog wheel. click on the middle arrow in square box), the mail activity window will slide up, and you can see what is happening again.

  • I turned on icloud and all my photos from my mac iphoto are gone.  Where did they go and how to get them back in iPhoto

All of my photos are missing from Iphoto on my mac.  I have turned on icloud however my iphone photos are not on my ipad or imac either.  Help.

Do you still see your photos, when you launch iPhoto and not Photos?
Where did you keep your iPhoto Library? In your Pictures folder, as is the default? Or on an external drive?
Look in the folder with your iPhoto Library.
You should be seeing two libraries, if you already let Photos upgrade the iPhoto Library:
Your iPhoto Library, now called .migratedphotolibrary
    and the new Photos library:
are the libraries there? and how large are they?
