Once again less service for more money ~ Personal Web Pages being discontinued!!!

Once again I would like to thank COMCAST for being cheap and money hungry. I use my personal web pages daily. This will create a lot of work and take a lot of time to move thing to another server that I will have to pay for on top of paying for internet service with COMCAST. Way to go. This will only cost me time and money once again. Stop being so cheap!!!! Bob

Yep. I'm extremely angry about this! I have been using the web space for years in order to upload helpful files to other people on Overclock.net such as screenshots, important setup files, important Windows files that someone might have lost, zip files containing a bunch of files that someone desperately needs, etc. etc. etc. That's years of uploading, and so it's years of files! Now that's being stripped away from me. Why? This is 2015, not 1985. It's not hard to provide storage space these days. Good lord. Comcast, are you really hurting for storage space on your servers? You have stolen our money for years, so the least you can do is let us keep our web spaces. I have created 7 different accounts on my Comcast account so that I could have 7 GB of storage space, which I have used quite well over the years. So now I have to sit here downloading ALL OF MY FREAKIN' FILES, and then I have to take them to some other location! Then, I have to go and update hundreds of links on Overclock.net and hundreds of screenshots in hundreds of posts that act as ARTICLES - not just posts. If I don't do that, then I'll have people asking me every single day why my links are broken and why my screenshots aren't showing up. Comcast, you sure know how DISSATISFY your customers I hate you now. I genuinely do. You have ruined my day, Comcast. I was actually having a good day for once, until you sent out the e-mail telling all of us about this.

  • Domain settings for more than one web page?

I am a new mac user and I love it! I recently created a web site and purchased a domain from a 3rd party and set it up to the web.mac etc;my web site works great love it. I have now purchased a second domain from a 3rd party and created my 2nd web site and I have set everything up just like the first site and it has been over 48 hours since the change and I cant seem to go to the site it says no page found? I have tried to set up personal domain for the 2nd site and it only shows the first site domain set up, and wont let me add a 2nd domain site? From my understanding you are able to manage and have several web sites? Is that correct? What am I doing wrong? Has anyone set up more than one personal domain and sites? If someone could help me I would really appreciate it. thank you very much Karen

You can only use the personal domain option once, that is CNAME, for every .Mac account. It just means that for your other website you will have to use the web forwarding option instead.
As well as DNS settings there should be web forwarding options at your hosting company. You need to go to these and then forward your domain name to web.mac.com/username/sitename.

  • Upgraded to 75/75, receive 7.3/80 Why less service for more $

Hi - Fios has been good service last 5 years.  Decided to upgrade as internet use is increasing and video is impossible most of the time.  So upgraded for extra $15/mo.  Now, since technician was here internet download speed is reduced from 25 to 7.3, and I am paying for 75.
Anyone have a solution to this not good speed issue?

This internet speed requires certain equipment
You might need a new router and or ONT
Call tech support and ask for a health check to be ran on your router. Also ask if enough light is being pushed to the ONT
Ask for the FiOS advanced WiFi router as a replacement and or the Quatum Gateway

Just subscribed to Acrobat for $19.99/year to be able to use expanded pdf manipulation features. From left hand window I signed in successfully. However when I try to use a feature like export to Word doc I am sent to Web page to subscribe for more money.  I thought I had already paid for access to these features by subscribing for the $19.99? What features did this $19.99 allow me if NOT to edit or export PDF files?

Please check the name of what you subscribed to. You say "Acrobat" but that isn't $19.99/year. Unfortunately Adobe have products which do the same thing and need to be used in different ways.

  • Any way we can force Comcast to -NOT- remove our personal web pages?

Weren't personal web pages in our service agreements?  Is anyone filing a class action?

    Myst01 wrote:
Weren't personal web pages in our service agreements?  Is anyone filing a class action? No, it wasn't in our service agreements. It was a free service that we weren't being charged extra for (it was never listed as an extra charge). It was included, and nowhere did it state that it would always exist or that it couldn't be taken away, etc. Nowhere did it state that Comcast couldn't screw us if they decided that it would be in their best interest. Also, Comcast wouldn't care about a Class Action Lawsuit. The amount of people that are being affected by this are an extremely tiny fraction of 1% of their entire customer base (so, we are far less than 1% of their entire customer base). I mean, we're just a couple hundred people out of millions of customers. Go ahead and ask the average Comcast customer if they even know what this is all about. I bet most people would be like, "What? Are you saying that they're taking away our e-mail? I didn't get any notice about this! OMG!" Sigh. Customers who didn't have files in the PWP space didn't receive a notice on this. They're completely oblivious to what's going on here. So yeah, we are the minority of the minority of the minority (of the minority, etc.). If we assume that 500 people are affected and if we assume that Comcast has exactly 1 million customers, then that would mean that this only affects 0.0005% of their customers. Think about that for a few minutes. This would have to affect hundreds of thousands of their customers for them to even care a LITTLE bit. So, we're screwed. If we filed a Class Action Lawsuit, then Comcast would be like, "Aw, they're so cute. Hey Bob, come take a look at this. Isn't that just about the most adorable thing you've ever seen?" Then Bob would call in the rest of the employees, "Hey guys! You gotta see this! LOL" Then you'd hear a collective, "Aawwww... " and someone might be like, "not even my own baby is that cute!" We're like a tiny insignificant little bug that is no more important than a speck of dust. We practically don't even really exist. If 500 people suddenly cancelled their subscription over this, then Comcast would be like, "LOL Oh noes! hahahahaha So anyway...." That's pretty much how it is. They are just that big. They don't care, and they never will.

  • End of personal web pages

I have been a Comcast customer for decades. And I have used personal web pages most of that time. It has ALWAYS been part of the featires in the contract. But now you blood-sucking beggers are screwing your customer once again taking away a feature that we have assumed was a part of the basic agreement.  SHAME ON YOU!!

  • Personal Web Page Discontinuence

@TwoCables et al Thank you for that information TwoCables, I didn't even notice it until you told me. We can certainly keep our fingers crossed! I apologize to everyone if I was mistaken about our email space allotment, I was going from a post by user madylarian who is normally quite accurate in respoinses.. Here's the thread that I got that figure from. I also thought that I recently read that on a Comcast or Xfinity site recently. Additionally an Internet search shows many links stating 10GB. Now I'm not sure! Darn it all anyway! Early morning tomorrow so I'm off to bed. Here's to wishing a pleasant evening to everyone!

Thank you for your reply TwoCables. The following is the textual content of the email Comcash sent me regarding the closure of the Personal Web Pages. The email text follows, starting with the title then heading the body. "Service Update: We're discontinuing Personal Web Pages We're discontinuing personal web pages JOHN DOE, whether you are actively using XFINITY Personal Web Pages or set one up in the past, we want to let you know that we're going to make some changes to this service. It took me a long time to finally notice this part of it. I would have put this in the white area, right in the body of the e-mail. How many people actually saw it? 5? Maybe 10 people? I would hope more, but with the way they designed this e-mail message, I wouldn't be surprised if I learned that 95% of people missed it. Who has time to be examining an e-mail message that closely?

  • More than one web page on .Mac?

I already have a personal web page set up, but would like to set up a page for my Rotary Club. I don't want everyone to have to go thru my personal photos, etc just to see Club calendars and upcoming events. Can I have more than one site if I have storage room available?

    rcfgunkie,
    Welcome to the discussions.
Navigate to your Web/Sites folder on your iDisk using the Go menu in Finder, and following this path:
    Go/iDisk/My iDisk/Web/Sites/iWeb
In the Sites folder on the iDisk, and above/next to the iWeb folder, you will see an index.html file. Using the Finder again, create a new folder on your desktop and name it iWebIndexFile. Drag the index.html file from the iDisk Site folder into this new folder. It will be copied there. You will use this file again later to bring your short .Mac url back to your original site, as it is now, should you decide to.
    Close iWeb.
Create a new folder on your desktop, and name it for the new site.
Navigate to your Domain file, following this path.
While holding down the option key, drag this Domain file into the new folder. It will be copied there. Create another folder on the desktop, and name it BackUpDomain. Option-drag the Domain file again, into the BackUpDomain folder. Now place this backup folder in your Documents folder. Close the Finder window, and open the folder which is named for the new site. Double-click on the Domain file inside.
iWeb will launch, and you will see your site as you have always seen it. The first thing you need to do is rename this site in the Site Organizer, giving it the name of your new site. Otherwise, it will overwrite the existing site on the iDisk when you publish it. Now delete the pages you do not want to keep, and create your new Welcome/Home page with the appropriate links in the navigation menu for this "new" site. You may also need to rename your pages. File/Publish to .Mac.
You now have two separate Domain files, containing two separate sites. When you launch iWeb, the application will open the last site that you edited. Create another folder, and name it for the original site. Navigate back to the path you used earlier for your Domain file, and again, holding down the option key, drag this Domain file into the new folder which has the name of your original site. Now you have two folders on your Desktop, each containing a individual Domain file, for your two sites. (You also have a backup of your original Domain file containing your original site, in your Documents Folder.) Create one more folder, name it Domains, and place both of these "Site" folders inside of this folder for good organization. From now on, to open either of your sites, choose the appropriate Site folder in the Domain folder, open it, and double-click on the Domain file inside. iWeb will open that site for you.
If your short .Mac url is pointing to the "new" site, and you do not wish for it to, navigate back to your Sites folder on your iDisk and replace the index.html file with the one you copied earlier; also, use the copied index.html file to replace the one in the iWeb folder which is next door to the Sites folder. Your short .Mac url will now point back to your original site, and you will access your "new" site using the url web.mac.com/username/iWeb/nameofnewsite.

  • Bellsouth Personal Web Pages

    Hi all,
I played with iWeb for the first time last week when I had some time off work. I do not have .mac so I have to publish via FTP, which is acceptable, although admittedly it would be nice if Apple included built-in publishing to other than .mac sites.
I published a photo page to my church web site (I am the webmaster) with no problem, and everyone is impressed. I created a quick test personal web site with several pages and published to my Bellsouth personal web pages (I am a Bellsouth DSL customer). Via the FTP client (PW FTP X), everything appears to be there with the correct folder structure, but when I browse to any page, all I get is a blank white screen. Just for a test I tried publishing the exact same personal site and pages to my AOL Members Web Space (we use AOL for Email) also using PW FTP X and once I got it all up there (a chore in itself on a Mac) everything worked beautifully. Anyone know what gives with Bellsouth? I have had an Email request in to their tech support for a few days, but have not heard anything back. I would really rather use Bellsouth for my personal site since AOL doesn't fully support FTP from a Mac.
    Thanks.
    Steve

Actually, even the Fetch documentation highlights the problems with AOL in that you either have to use Dial-up or OS9 to FTP to their space. See:
    http://fetchsoftworks.com/Support/faq5.html#HowConnectAOLFTP
There is a better workaround but it involves reconfiguring your network connections via UNIX terminal commands, which is what I did. See:
    http://members.aol.com/adamkb/aol/ftp/macosx.html
It seems to me it would be possible to taylor an FTP client (or even iWeb itself!) to handle the above for AOL.
I will give some thought to listing my URL(s), although I'm not thrilled with the idea of publicly identifying my personal family web space here. I just thought somebody who had dealt with Bellsouth might know of an answer. I have noted that iWeb does generate Java scripts, but Bellsouth's on-line documentation says Java scripts are supported.

  • Acrobat Pro 9.5.4 Update causes PDF to print more like a web page

Something changed from 9.5.3 to 9.5.4 such that PDFs opened within a browser (FireFox) now print more like a web page.  This has caused several issues.
    1. Printing now uses the header/footer printing preferences of the browser.  All PDF's I print from within the browser print with the URL in the upper right, time/date in the lower right and all the other header/footer preferences in the browser.  This was never the case before.
    2. Font sizes and text location are different.  We print checks, invoices from PDF's generated within our business system.  These are now misaligned compared to what they have been because of this change.
It's possible this is related to a browser update but I haven't pinned this down yet.  I'm using Firefox 19.0, Windows 7, 32 bit.
    Any insights are appreciated.

    Hi,
This is not happening because of Acrobat update but the reason for this change is that Firefox 19.0 has introduced  its own Javascript PDF viewer.
You can change the settings in browser to use Acrobat plugin for viewing PDF files. Go to Options->Application to chnage the settings, please see attached screenshot for more details.
    Hope this solves your problem.
    Thanks.

  • Linksys X3000: External internet users can no more access my web pages

I have web server setting behind the Linksys ADSL modem, I set the DMZ IP to my web server IP so the external internet users can access my web pages.
This setup was working fine until I switched to “Linksys X3000” modem, external internet user can no more access my web pages.
I had set the DMZ IP correctly in the new modem. The local LAN users can access the pages without any problem.
Any idea what is the problem?

The ability of the external computer to ping the router’s WAN ip address is vital in accessing the devices/applications behind the router remotely. With such, you need to have “Filter Anonymous Internet Requests” unchecked. Another thing to consider is the way DMZ was set; make sure that you have set “Any IP Address” for the source ip address and have indicated the web server’s ip address for the destination ip address.

You may like to have a fixed footer as in

       left:0px;
       bottom:0px;
       height:30px;

i remember once i added a addon which continues a web page of a forum if it has 10 pages automatically with out clicking it but now i cant find it?

Ouch, tough spot, but offhand I'd say some memory may have gone bad, or maybe just needs re-seating after all this time.
Not much you can do, but try this anyway...
    PRAM reset, CMD+Option+p+r...

In fact, do 3 in a row, takes a bit of time.

  • No home phone service for more than two months

I am sending this note on behalf of my mother.  She has been waiting for technical services to her home phone for more than two months.  She has received dates where a technician would come out to repair her services in which she has left work early or stayed home on weekends no avail.  My mom is not in best health and has a child with disabilities living in the home and it is imperative that her services are working.  It is frustrating to her to pay for a service she's not receiving.  This is the worst customer service experience from Verizon.
I am asking for immediate resolve to this issue and to work with us to assure payment for time where phone has not worked Will not be charged to her account.  Please contact me {edited for privacy}.

  • My finger print scanner for logging on to web pages no longer works in firefox 4

My laptop has a finger print scanner that manages passwords. You scan your finger to log on to various pages or accounts instead of typing in the log in information. It worked flawlessly in the older version of Firefox, but since upgrading to Firefox 4 it no longer works. I checked and it still works with Windows.

Is the a Digital Persona fingerprint scanner, also used in teh HP SimplePass Identity Manager? If do the company that make the bioscanner have abandoned it. For more details see https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/799388
