One iTunes account - multiple computers

I purchased an audio book on my new laptop, and now want to play it on my desktop. I've done this kind of thing before with my old laptop and never had problems.
When I attempt to play my recently acquired audiobook on my desktop, iTunes prompts for my username and password. After I log in, iTunes displays a message "This item requires a later version of iTunes to purchase."
I already purchased the book! I only want to play it. I tried "deauthorizing" and reauthorizing my desktop, but continued to get the same message.
Then I checked the versions of iTunes on my laptop and desktop, and found that my laptop uses v6 and my desktop uses v5. Does this make a difference?
How can I play the audiobook I already purchased on my desktop?

  • One itunes account multiple devices in family - help

    I have one itunes account but multiple devices used by the family and I am having conflicts with sharing and face time, imessage etc.
    Listed devices
    Me - iphone 5, Ipad mini, Apple Tv, Macbook Pro 13" (just purchased)
    Wife - iphone 5, ipad
    Daughter - iphone 4, ipad mini
    Son - iphone 4
    Son - ipad
    At the moment we all use one itunes account (mine) we all have our own email adresses etc.
    I have itunes U which can be accessed.
    The problem is everyone wants to use face time and imessage etc but I keep having conflicts with the devices sharing eachothers messages etc. Plus not eveyone wants to share photos etc so how do you manage that across mulitple devices.
    Is it a set up issue or is it easier for everyone to have their own accounts.
    Thanks

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
    You could simply ensure that only the numbers and addresses you wish to use on each device are checked at Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. However this isn’t an ideal solution because the other person can always change these settings from their device and have some fun with you and your contacts.
    You’d be far better getting them to delete your account from their device and have them create one of their own. If you are sharing an ID for some other service such as iTunes, you can continue to do so, you only need change the ID for messages.

  • One computer, one iTunes account, multiple devices and iCloud accounts, help!

    We have a family MacBook and have always held a single iTunes account. We have multiple devices (iTunes Match has proved to be very useful). We have 2 x iCloud accounts. This causes an issue in terms of synchronisation. Is it possible to synch calendars and photos? As mentioned, the music is no longer an issue with iTunes match. Is there a way that we can synch calendars and photos without having to use a single iCloud account? In addition, the only reason we have separate iCloud accounts is for email. Can I keep my mobile.me email without an iCloud account?

    I personally would recommend to use different iCloud account for your own stuff like email, calendars, reminders etc. If you want to have a calendar for your family then just share it via your iPhone, iPad or Mac. Yes, you could keep you me,com email address but it should be migrated to icloud because MobileMe was shut down.

  • One iTunes account, two computers...

    Dear community,
    My first post: I'm looking for some advice regarding my iTunes account. Can anyone solve this conundrum?
    My ex-girlfriend and i used to share a computer (windows vista) with my iTunes account on it. I used to sink my iPhone 3G on it.
    We went our separate ways, still friends, now she has the computer. I bought a laptop (Windows 7), loaded iTunes on to it and opened my account but no sign of music etc.
    I'm borrowing the old computer for a week to see if i can sink my phone for the first time in a year but chiefly to duplicate our music collection using an external hard drive. I would like to be able to sink my phone on my own computer in the future and return the old computer with her music still intact.
    Do you think i will need to start a new account for her or de-authorise her computer and load a copy of the music back on to her computer?
    Can anyone help? Very many thanks. (I'm about to receive an iPhone 4S so really should be ready).

    You can copy the entire iTunes folder from the old one to the new one. Recommend you change the password to your account if you haven't done so already, but I guess you can leave her machine authorised until you find you need all five authorisations for yourself.

  • Multiple iTunes Accounts Multiple Computers

    We have 2 MacMinis, and  a new  AppleTV2  and  one SonyTV.   How  do we get the AppleTV2   to work  with BOTH our iTunes  accounts.  One on each  computer?  Right now  it  just sees  the  first device.   We share a secure wireless network of  an Airport Extreme router.  All works well, but  with only one of  the Minis.

    you need to authorize home sharing on both machine using the same iTunes store account. once that's done, it doesn't matter if iTunes on Mac 1 is using iTunes store account X and the other is using iTS account Y.

  • How to share one Itunes account between computers

    I'm trying to figure out how to actually move music in Itunes from one computer to another. I have the same account set up on both my desktop and laptop and I can access music from one on the other when they are both signed into Itunes. However, I would like to move some music from the desktop onto my laptop. Can I do this without hooking them up together (i.e. firewire cable, or whatever you would normally use)? Thanks!

  • One iTune Library - Multiple Computers - Playlists?

    I am running a couple of Windows PC from the same iTune library stored on a network drive.
    There's no need to use "sharing" in this situation since all computers access the same library.
    So far so good.
    My problem is that I cannot see the Playlists from one computer to the other, is there a way to achieve that?
    I did try sharing previously (share everything) and it did not make any difference.
    Any ideas out there?

    I'd suggest you consider a cloud-based file sharing service such as Dropbox for this sort of use. iOS is not designed to be synched with more than one iTunes library at a time, so attempting to use it as you describe, connecting a single iPad to multiple computers, almost certainly won't work as you intend and is likely to cause nothing but headaches.

  • Multiple users under one itunes account

    I have multiple mac's (both desktops and laptops) as well as multiple iphones and ipads at home.  I am limited in itunes to only 5 devices - what should i do?  set-up a different itunes account for my kids (but then they will not be able to access the music and movies that have already been purchased).
    Unsure how to best set-up 4 people (with each having an iphone, ipad and mac) itunes.
    Any suggestions?

    Ideally, each will have their own iTunes account.
    I am limited in itunes to only 5 devices
    Each iTunes account is limited to 5 computers but 10 devices.
    So you can have content from one iTunes account on 5 computers and also 5 iDevices.
    set-up a different itunes account for my kids (but then they will not be able to access the music and movies that have already been purchased).
    Yes, they will. Just authorize each computer for the other iTunes accounts.
    Make sure you go to iTunes prefs > Store and disable Automatic downloads.
    Also disable it on the iDevices in Settings > iTunes and App stores.
    You can share content between users/libraries by using Home Sharing.

    You need to create a user account for your wife (or yourself depending on who has the current user account). When syncing, each of you should sign in as a separate user, login to iTunes and then sync. I had this problem when my sister got an iPhone. When we did her initial sync, everything on my iPhone showed up on hers. Apple gave me this solution.

  • How do we split our iCloud accounts but keep one iTunes account so we can share purchased content for our multiple iPhones and iPads?

    How do we split our iCloud accounts but keep one iTunes account so we can share purchased content for our multiple iPhones and iPads?

    You can migrate a copy of the data to a new account, then delete the other person's data from each account.  To do this, on the phone that will be changing accounts, if you have any photos in photo stream that you want to keep on the phone, save these to your camera roll by opening the photo stream album in the thumbnail view, tapping Edit, then tap all the photos you want to save, tap Share and tap Save to Camera Roll. If you have any synced notes that you want to keep on the phone, email these to yourself so you can create new notes in the new account.
    Once this is done, go to Settings>iCloud, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account.  (This will only delete the account from this phone, not from iCloud.  The phone that will be keeping the account will not be effected by this.)  When prompted about what to do with the iCloud data, be sure to select Keep On My iPhone.  Next, set up a new iCloud account using a different Apple ID (if you don't have one, tap Get a Free Apple ID at the bottom).  Then turn iCloud data syncing for contacts, etc. back to On, and when prompted about merging with iCloud, choose Merge.  This will upload the data to the new account.  You will create a new icloud email address with you turn Mail to On.
    Finally, to un-merge the data you will then have to go to icloud.com on your computer and sign into each iCloud account separately and manually delete the data you don't want (such as deleting your wife's data from your account, and vice versa).

  • How do i creating multiple icloud accounts for one itunes account

    how do i creating multiple icloud accounts to access one itunes account?

    Perhaps you could explain a bit more what you want to do...
    iCloud accounts don't access an iTunes account.

  • Multiple Apple ID's tied to one iTunes account

    We have three people with Apple devices in the house: My MacBook Pro & older iPod, my daughter's iPod Touch & iPhone and my wife's iPhone and (not yet set up) Mac Mini.
    We all have Apple ID's, but am wondering how to tie them to my iTunes account so we only have one source of billing?  I sync my iPod to my MacBook, but no other local syncing is happening currently.
    We do not want to necessarily share music, just billing. Whatever we did with my daughter's iPod and iPhone seems to be working, I see her purchases, but do not see her music, nor her mine.  Not sure how we did it and don't want to screw it up going forward.
    Also - Should we sync the phones and iPods to local computers or just iCloud?
    Thanks

    You cannot do that. Each Apple ID needs to be tied to each separate account. Each of you must purchase your own copies of music and apps and sync to separate iTunes Libraries on the computer. The computer must have to user accounts set up - one for you and one for your fiance.
    Sharing Stuff From Different iTunes Accounts (or Computers)
    Here's how to do so using different computers:
    Transfer what content you want to the separate iTunes library on each computer. To transfer content from your library to another library do the following. We'll assume this is between husband and wife separate accounts and different Apple IDs.
    Launch iTunes under your wife's login;
    Sign her out of iTunes, then you sign in;
    Select iTunes -> Preferences -> Devices -> Disable auto-sync when an iPod/iPhone is connected;
    Connect your phone, DO NOT SYNC;
    Select Store -> Authorize this Computer (only have to do this once);
    Select File -> Transfer Purchases (all of the purchased content on your phone will be transferred to your wife's library);
    When complete eject your phone, sign out of iTunes, sign your wife back in.
    You can now sync whatever content you want to your wife's phone. Just remember all updates to apps obtained using your account must be done while signed in using your account: sign wife out, you sign in, update apps, you sign out, sign wife in, sync her phone.
    This way you can share content (permitted under the EUSLA) and still maintain your separate logins. Do the same on your computer if you want to share content from your wife's library.
    Just load whatever content you want to share on each others phones, transfer the content, then delete it from the respective phone if you don't want to keep it there.

  • HT5622 How many family members, computers, iPods,iPad,IDs can you have on one iTunes account?

    I'm just trying to sort out some iTunes I'd issues.  Does anyone know how many total iPad iPods can be used with one Apple ID?  Or how many apple  IDs your can have with one iTunes account? Or does each person need there own Apple ID or Apple account? Thanks

    You can't have multiple IDs on one account, but you can use multiple IDs for different purposes on the same device.
    Just use the one AppleID for iTunes and the AppStore so you can all share your music and app purchases. Then each person should have their own individual AppleID with associated iCloud account for mail, contacts, calendars, iMessage and FaceTime.
    You don't have to use the same AppleID for all services.

  • Can I use one itunes account for multiple users and multiple devices

    Can I use one itunes account for multiple users and multiple devices?

    The iTunes EULA, as I understand it (I'm not an attorney )for Apps is basically that one person can use an App multiple devices, or multiple people can use an App one device..so one to many or many to one, but not many to many....
