One more Epson R2880 Mac driver question?

Using OSX 10.5.7, with the latest R2880 v6.20 driver, does LR 2.3 now correctly bypass Colorsync when selecting a Profile in Color Management in the Printer module? I'm still concerned with the prospect of double profiling. I'm hoping that v2.3 passes the selected profile directly to the driver, where it is applied to the appropriate choice of Media Type in the Print Settings section.

I have a 3800 so cannot directly answer your question, but at the same time, even with a definitive yes from someone, that doesn't guarantee that it will get set up correctly on your machine. Likely, but no guarantee! I'd suggest a few smallish test prints.

  • Installing epson r2880 printer driver

    Hi,
I am trying to add an Epson r2880 to my iMac running MAC OS 10.8 Mountain Lion and I keep getting messages as below now over a 12+ hour period. Is the server really down for this long or should I do something different to get this printer driver loaded? Multiple attempts through the software update have failed.
    Thanks,
    Jorge

If you are current with your Software Updates, then you should have the Oct 4. Epson Printer Drivers v2.12 for OS X installed. This provides support for the R2880 directly from Print & Scan system preferences.
If your R2880 is already present in your Print & Scan configuration, you may need to first remove it, then add it back, choosing the Epson R2880 driver (version 9).

  • Epson R2880 printer driver problems with Snow Leopard

I’m running 10.6.4 on a new Mac mini and I’m trying to print to a new Epson R2880. If I let the system choose the printer driver in the print and fax utility, I get a sort of generic print dialogue box without many options, but it prints. If I go into the print and fax utility and manually choose the driver, I get a different print dialog box with all the appropriate print options. I checked and it matches the screen shots for this printer that are posted on the Epson site, so I feel sure this the correct driver. However, when I try to print with this driver, I get this error message. Error:/Library/Printers/EPSON/InkjetPrinter2/Filter/rastertoescpll.app/Contents /MacOS/rastertoescpll failed.
This seems to be a common problem with Snow Leopard and the R2880 Epson printers, and it seems that most people are able to solve it by deleting the printer from the printer queue and resetting the printer queue. But that hasn’t solved my problem.
    Here’s what I’ve done:
Manually deleted the Epson folder from the hard drive and trashed it, repaired disk permissions, uninstalled the Epson driver, updated software, downloaded and installed the Apple/Epson driver, deleted the printer from the print queue, and reset the printer queue. I’ve done all of these things several times over. And still I get the same error message every time I try to print from the driver with the print options. Does anyone have any other suggestions for a fix?

Some of the previous users had success when they restarted after deleting the /Library/Printers/EPSON and /Library/Caches/Epson folders. You might also try deleting the /Library/Cache folder. There is a solution posted from someone at Epson:

    Substitute 2880 for RX580:
Make sure that you have completely removed the Stylus Photo RX580 driver, then install the new driver from System Update:
    1. Power off the printer
    2. Open System Pref. and Print/Fax
    3. Highlight the RX580 printer
    4. Click on the ""-"" sign
    5. Close Print and Fax
    6. Open your Mac's Hard Drive
    7. Open the Library Folder
    8. Open Printer and delete the EPSON Folder
    9. Open the PPDs folder find the Epson Stylus Photo RX580.gz and delete the file
    10. Close the PPD and the Printer folder
->11. In the Library folder, open the Caches Folder
    ->12. Delete the Epson folder
    ->13. Restart the Mac
    14. Power on the printer
    15. Click on the Apple Icon and System Update
    16. Follow the directions to install the new driver
    Hope this helps.

  • Going from PC to Mac, drive questions?

Ok, this is for all the Mac guys out here. I just converted from PC to a iMac. I have the 3tb Fusion - but in my PC I have 6TB in (2) 3tb SATA 7200 drives.  The first drive hold 14 years of photography, while the second hold 8 years of video. These are active drive, I use the data on both in quite a bit of different projects. These are not archives or backups, they are usable libraries. So my question: these drives are formatted NTFS - I'm not sure how to get them to work with the Mac. While I can read them, I can't write to them. Also, I don't know the mechanics or efficiencies of running NTFS drives in a Mac environment? Looking for some real world advice.

Software is a valid solution in the short term that allows you to use your drives easily.
However, I'd strongly urge you to consider replacing the drive system with a more Mac-ish box and then copy your multiple TB to the new disks. You will get a backup and new. easily accessible mass storage.
Hope you enjoy your new Macintosh. It's the only machine I've ever used so I don't know how to compare Premiere on a PC to my use of Adobe and Apple products on my Macs.

  • One more iChat and Yahoo Messenger question

I have been PC user for years, but I only recently saw the light...
I have a MacBook Pro recently updated with Lion.  I have everything updated.  So, I am trying to communicate with a friend through iChat using Yahoo Messenger.  He has a brand new PC.
I can log into iChat using my Yahoo Messenger account.  He can do the same.  But, even though we can see each other on our Buddy List, and we can text each other, the option "Invite to video chat" is grayed out for me.  If he tries to invite me to video response, but I get no notice.
If I have Yahoo Messenger running at the same time, it takes control, and iChat shows me offline.  If I turn Yahoo Messenger off, I still have no option to video chat.
I have been through the pages here, but I do not have the experience I had with PC.  So, going through and deleting files in a Mac is a little indemidating for me.  Can someone welcome me to the fold and walk me through any tips you can think of that may fix my problem?  Remember, little baby steps...
    If not, thanks for reading,
    Patrick

    Hi,
There is no "FIx" as such.
All the major IM services that do Video somewhere along the line use different protocols in the connection process or in the actually Video Feed.
iChat uses a Process called Session Initiation Protocol. (SIP)
It does not matter if you have an AIM Buddy list ((One with an AIM valid ID as Lgin details) or a Jabber one or a Yahoo one or even if you enable th Bonjour one if you have other Macs on your LAN it will use this Protocol.
This Protocol is compatible with the AIM Application on PCs
There is a thrdr Party App called Trillian which in it's Pro Version can also Video with iChat.
The other side of the coin is that it will only Video to other iChat Users that have Google/Jabber or Yahoo Names.
By the same token Google run a Jabber Server
Jabber servers use a process called Jingle to do Video
Google however have altered their version and it is not that compatible with other Jabber apss that can Video chat
This includes Google's Standalone App called Google Talk (PC Only), the Browser Plug-ins it produces for  Macs (Intels only) and PC and the Chat Option on their Web Pages
Yahoo uses a straight Web Feed for Video and STUN for the Audio chat along side.
STUN is close to SIP but not close enough to allow Audio Connections..
    NOTE
iChat has had the Ability to Text chat to any Jabber Buddy including GoogleTalk ones since iChat 3
iChat 3 was nearly 6 years ago and no Jabber Video ability has bee added to the app in all that time.
Any changes are not going to be "in the next Update"

  • How many RAID drives can one use in a MAC Pro?

I know the question sounds simple. I have a Mac Pro with four matched drives (purchased specifically to do RAID). I want speed over everything else with these drives, and use a automated backup every night to create an external bootable backup, and once a week to do another, so I am comfortable with using all four internals for RAID. Also I have had my Mac for several months and have tried several configurations. I also used software raid in my old windows workstation (2 drives), Here is the reason for my question. In the Mac, as I have gone beyond 2 drives, I have noticed lots of speed, but issues with slowdowns when dealing with drives out of the raid set, 2 drives is fast and very stable, and "normal". 3 drives is noticably faster but has problems communicating with the single, fourth drive and external drives. 4 drives were tried early on and had problems, but that was long enough ago that I am not sure what was going on. My question: I assume that the four drives in the Mac operate on two SATA busses. Is there any reason, other than perhaps a my own hardware or install problem (ie, not a Mac limitation), that should prevent me from using all 4 drives in a single Mac disk utility software raid? has anyone done this? I want to consider this one more time before i consider the machine to be in its "final setup". Side point: Doing all the installs I have done to experiment with these questions has made me very comfortable with the Mac, and I am probably much further along in my "PC to Mac" transition that I ever would have been otherwise. Oh, on that line, BOOT CAMP is not being used, so that does not factor into the question. I certainly appreciate the consideration anyone would give to this post.

Thank you, in fact I am using Seagates, but they are 320GB, and were specifically the "NS" series that are designated bt Seagate as being for this kind of work, and 24-7 use. Then I found out how great the Mac sleep works, and my drives get less spin time than my PC drives did! But it had occurred to me that it was perhaps a drive issue. I will go to Seagates Support, and in the meantime, leave this topic open in case anyone else has similar thoughts.
    Thanks for the response!

  • Color Distortion with Mac Lion, CS6, Epson R2880 printer

When I had Snow Leopard, CS4 and Epson R2280, I got prints that looked like what was on the monitor.
When I bought a new Mac which switched my operating system to Lion, and Adobe recommended  I buy CS5 which I did.  When I went to print, trying every setting imaginable, the color was too dark, distorted and lifeless.  I called support on January 23, 2012 and they have not solved the problem YET.
I was very excited to try CS6.  I selected use CS4 profiles.
I printed a PSD file using Printer controls setting, color matching, epson.  The results are marginally better.  The pictures do not come out as dark but yellows turn green and greens turn blue.  Blues are sligtly darker and reds are off- mostly darker.  I got the same results letting photoshop control the colors.  This lack or responsiveness to changes in commands is the same thing I encountered with CS5.  I also tried printing an unadjusted raw file and the color did not change.
I know how to use the Epson R2880 so I chose the correct media and ink.
When I print from Apples preview or iPhoto, the color is perfect.
Given that Epson is a high quality photoprinter, Adobe should make it their business to be sure their product works with Epson.

I too have a MacBook with Lion and an Epson R2880..I'm in the process of evaluating CS6 on the
MAC platform after using PS and Premier Pro on Windows boxes since 1995; so far I'm
very impressed with how CS6 runs under LION given the somewhat strained
    relationship between Apple & Adobe..but I digress..my first attempt at a print
with Luster produced very distorted imagery compared to that of my Thunderbolt
display (which I love BTW)..I recognize the distortion almost certainly
that caused by either 1)an improperly selected printer driver in the dialoges or
2)bad or clogged ink jets or 3)a printer driver not updated for my new hardware/software
combo..in this case LION with CS6 (beta s/w)...now in my case its not #2 as I just
printed the same tiff file with CS5 on my Windows machine perfectly; its also not #1 cause
I checked & rechecked the matte settings...I suspect #3 is the culprit..I'll do some
more troubleshooting with this and report back..
Oh, BTW, soft proofing on my MAC TB display revelaed not distortions so even
tho I have done no monitor calibrations on this display I have no reason to
    suspect thatas the culprit..

  • Sorry. One More OnyX Question!

Sorry. I just realized I had one more question pertaining to OnyX. When I'm on the Optimization page, it says to either "update" or "complete optimization" options for optimization. What do either of those options mean? I'm just a little scared to try any of those things if I don't know what they do.

    Rodriguez,
If you value your data, you will sit down and understand what it means to backup your data. Lack of patience is no excuse. You'd have even more lack of patience with your machine when you lose it all. Keep at least two copies of everything at all times. Don't reformat your hard drive without making sure there are two external copies of your data. Methods of backing up vary by individual. If you are the kind who lacks patience, run a clone every night the weather is known to be good with Superduper. It has the least complicated interface. Use a couple external Firewire hard drives at least the size of the internal hard drive to make the clone. An iPod is not a backup, since software copying music from the iPod to the computer is unreliable.
Upgrade only when you need to, and are aware that everything you have works with the update before you do upgrade. And repair permissions before and after with Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility.
Upgrade and backup only when you have no peripherals attached other than Apple's own (i.e. keyboard, mouse). A display is not affected by updates or backups, as long as there is no USB or Firewire plugged into the display.

  • New Hard Drive: Mac Face/Question Mark on boot

I installed a new hard drive in my fathers iBook G4 1.33 GHz and installed Leopard. I instantly had problems after the installation was complete and the computer restarted. I got the Mac Face/Question Mark for a second and then it booted to the installation CD.
I used disk utilities to verify and repair the disk and permissions which both finished successfully. I tried to reboot with the same result: Mac Face/Question Mark for a second and then it booted to the installation CD. I decided to erase and reinstall Leopard. Installation complete - Restart - Mac Face/Question Mark. I decided to turn if off for the night.
I powered up in the morning with short-lived success, as I got the Leopard Welcome video. I set up the system and did some software updates, which eventually required a restart. Boom. Mac Face/Question Mark. I decided to hold the option key on my next restart to see if I could select the hard drive installation over the install CD. I was able to do so, and it booted fine to the hard drive. I continued my software updating, installed some more software like iLife '08, Firefox, Open Office, Stuffit Expander, etc. After all my installation and updating, the system operates great, except when I have to start up. I still have the Mac Face/Question Mark.
I have a theory that the hard drive jumper is set incorrectly, but I don't want to waste 45 mins. cracking the thing open to find out. Can anyone confirm? I'm open to all other theories, of course.

No jumper means Cable Select (CS). This would mean that the cable from the motherboard to the drive has a blue connector at the motherboard and a black connector on the end where the drive plugs in. The gray connector in the middle is the Slave position. Master/Slave relationship is determined by where on the cable the device is plugged in.
The CS cables and the setting was not used very often until around 2004 or 2005. Until that time all of the connectors on the cable were the same color and the Master/Slave setting was determined by the jumper on the drive.
It's very possible that you are trying to use a drive that's been setup for the newer systems as Cable Select, when actually you should force the drive to be a Master by installing a jumper on the proper pins.
Are there two deviced on the cable besides the motherboard, and are all of the connectors the same color? Or is the connector that plugs into the motherboard black? Then you are probably not looking at a CS buss.

  • Mac External Hard Drive Question

I have a MacBook with a 60 gb hard drive, as well as an external usb drive with 60 more gb of room. The drive inside the MacBook is filling up with all the pictures in iPhoto, and songs in iTunes. My question is: is there a way (i.e. maybe with software) that, when the usb hd is plugged in (which would be quite frequently), that although all the photos and music would be stored on the external drive, they would still show up normally in their respective applications (i.e. iPhoto, iTunes)? Thanks a lot!

    Hi
Yes! There are a few ways, but here's how I've always done it. You'll create "links" on your main drive, replacing the Music and Photos folder, which will point to your external drive. Of course, you won't be able to access your library unless the external drive is attached.
This is how you do it: First, quit iTunes. Drag your Music folder to your external drive to copy it. Once that's done, double-check the external drive and make sure the files are there (and that you haven't created an alias, which I've seen happen). Delete your original Music folder. Now, go into Terminal (in your Utilities folder) and type exactly as shown, with the exact spacing, replacing YOURDRIVE with the name of your external drive:
    ln -s "/Volumes/YOURDRIVE/Music" Music
(I enclose the first path in quotes in case your external drive has spaces in its name. They're optional otherwise.)
This will create a new link, called "Music", in the same place as your previous Music folder, which actually points to the Music folder on your external drive. Now, when you launch iTunes, it'll happily find the external drive and treat the library in exactly the same way.
(Note: I set the Music folder as a link, but you may want to drill down one more level and set "iTunes" as the link. Why? Well, other applications - such as GarageBand - store their files in Music, and if the Music folder is "missing" from the main drive, they may not work correctly.)
Do the same for "Pictures". Copy, delete the original, and make the link:
    ln -s "/Volumes/YOURDRIVE/Pictures" Pictures
Let me know if you have any trouble getting that to work. Good luck!
    Matt

    Turn off your printer.
Go to System Preferences > Print & Scan > Printers window and delete the printer from the list, then add it back.
    Turn on your printer.
    Any difference?

  • One more question.

Hey again. I am probably going to go get my iMactoday or tomorrow. But I have one more question. I am aware that Macs are pretty much prone to viruses. But!!! When I download a version of Windows on Bootcamp, will I still have the amazing security, or will it be viruses like owning a PC? Thank you very much!

    HI,
*"I am aware that Macs are pretty much prone to viruses."*
Just the opposite. Windows users are the one's vulnerable to a virus.
You will need anti virus software on the Windows partition.

  • Connecting to the internet + one more Macbook question

I've just noticed that I haven't updated my profile, but I am no longer using an eMac. That machine just died on me, so I've purchased my first Macbook. I've also moved into a new apartment, and cannot get connecting using the apartment's existing ethernet connection.
My girlfriend has a cable modem and uses an ethernet cable to connect her PC. Our compters are on the same table, so we share the ethernet cable. But when I plug it ino my Macbook, no dice. Can't reach the internet. Any clues? I don't know a lot about internet connections, but I have my network settings set for a DHCP connection, and I'm told that it's all set correctly and should work. Maybe my girlfriend's connection only allows for one computer in the apartment?
One more question: I don't like the color scheme on this new Macbook as much as I did my old eMac. On this one, the whites (for instance, the background of this page) seem "too white." So much so that it hurts my eyes. When I turn the brightness down, it makes the blues and grays look dull. But when I turn the brightness back up, the whites are blinding. Has anyone else noticed this?

If your Sky router is anything like my Netgear, the problem is the way you have to enter the WEP password on a Mac. IIRC, there are a couple of options for the password format, and you need to choose the right one. I think they were Hex and ASCII. My password has to be entered as 26 characters of Hex - that's how the passkey is displayed in the router when you enter the password there for the first time.
On a Windows machine, I just key that password in full. On my Macs, I have to tell it that I'm using Hex, not ASCII - there's a drop down box with all the various options somewhere that allows you to select the encryption type and the key format.
For some reason, OS X isn't clever enough to work out whether you are entering Hex or ASCII.
If you get really stuck, you can always disable WEP on the router - log in using a wired connection (usually you type 192.168.0.1 into Safari) and set wireless security to none. Check that your macbook can now connect wirelessly, then re-enable security, making a note of the new passkey.
Might be worth doing this anyway, and choosing a more secure setting.

  • Shared Epson R2880 Driver Settings

Because of my setup I am using a MacBook Pro to share an Epson R2880 printer connected directly to it. I want to print out of Lightroom to the shared printer. The setup works fine until I change the printer settings, which are not picked up by the remote Mac.
Specifically, the R2880 has two black ink cartridges which are swapped out depending whether you are printing to matte or glossy paper. When I switched cartridges, the remote Mac does not pick up the new settings, so it presents the wrong media choices.
Anyone know how I can get the remote Mac to pick up these changes in the driver so it knows I swapped out the ink cartridge? This is a matter of updating the local driver with the remote driver settings. Its not apparent to me how to do that.

My name is Syd and I work for Epson America, Inc.
From your description, there is a problem receiving information from the printer via your network. This would be why new printer settings are working with the direct USB connected computer and not picked up by your remote mac. You did not mention the connection of your remote mac, however if using wireless the issue may be with the Apple wireless bonjour driver. We would recommend contacting Epson tech support to verify your setup as there are different variables that would affect this issue.
    Here to help,
