One-to-many in bubble chart - or a 'stacked' bubble chart?

Hi all
I am working on a bubble chart app. I have found many examples of using the bubble chart to display data in a one to one basis - so there is a single data point which has a value one both the horizontal and vertical axises.
Can someone please tell me how I can have display data which has a single vertical value, but multiple datapoints on the horizontal - and all data points for that single vertical value are dislayed on the same line?
I hope I have explained this clearly.
In a bar chart this is called 'Stacked'. Can I do a similar thing with a Bubble Chart - is it even possible?
Kind regards,

OK I think I can answer my own question.
it seems that the Bubble Chart can have a one-to many data points. the problem was that the horizontal and vertical axis would display duplicate values.
I found this link to be useful: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg96652.html//www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg96652.html

• Chart Web Part - Stacked Column Chart and the Y Field

I am trying to create a stacked chart in Sharepoint.
I am encountering a problem at the "Bind Chart to Data" Step. Retrieval of Data goes without a hitch - all rows and columns are captured and shown, but then when it comes to adding series, the "Y Field" drop down menu only shows one of
my columns. So of course, the final chart only has one data series visible - a normal column chart instead of a stacked one.
What could be the cause of this, and how do I fix it?

Yes, that's right. That is exactly what I want to do.
But, the problem I'm facing is that when it comes time to select the second series settings as:
The second Series settings:
Series Name: Oranges
Series Type: StackedColumn
Series X-Axis Type: Primary
Series Y-Axis Type: Primary
X Field: Day
Specifically >>>>Y Field: Oranges
The Y-field option which appears as
a drop-down menu on the page, does NOT show the option "Oranges". It shows only "Apples" again, and also a blank setting (selecting this also does not cause desired graph to get created).
I want to know HOW to be able to select "Oranges" as the Y-field because I am unable to do so!

• Stacked Bar Chart with data from a Web Service

Hi,
I'm working on Dashboard Design (version 14.0.1.287) and I'm trying to create a chart linked to data from a webservice.
With a Year in input, my webservice gives an Amount per Cities and Products
Data retrieved look like this (Sheet1) :
Paris          Tablets          45
Paris          Laptops          12
Paris          Cellulars          89
New-York     Tablets          56
New-York     Laptops          36
New-York     Cellulars          1
Londres          Tablets          150
Londres          Laptops          3
Londres          Cellulars          45
Then I use a Pivot Table (created manually in Excel) looking like this (Sheet2) :
Tablets     Laptops     Cellulars
Paris          45          12          89
New-York     56          36          1
Londres          150          3          45
The chart is a Stacked Bar Chart plugged on the previous Pivot Table
I create 3 series (one per Product), values (X) are set with Amount
Category labels (Y) are set with Cities
The goal is to have a dynamic chart (series and categories must update if a new city or a new product appears)
So my question is : how can I set up the chart directly with data retrieved from webservice on Sheet1?
Thx a lot !

hi
First thing , bad news if you are using .Net framework 1,
just forget it, Flex 2 doesn't work well with framework 1, but 2nd,
good news, if you want to use webservices, you'll have to make an
array of objects on .Net Side and send it as objects to flex, i saw
an example on the net but i can't seem to remember where, on the
other hand,if you want to simply use, like i do, HTTPSERVICE its a
very nice way to talk with .Net and you can see my example here
http://flex1-for-dummies.blogspot.com
By the way, in your code, you have a request tag , but you
aren't requesting anything, because if you were you would have to
make like this
<mx:request>
<Artist>{yourinputtext.text}</Artist>
</mx:request>
So if you don't have an input text, you don't need a request
tag, only the operation.

• Xcelsius - Stacked Column Chart - Overall value / Result

Hi *,
does somebody knows how I can display the overall value of my columns in a stacked column chart?
Or is there a workauround to do this?
Thanks and regards,
Markus

Yes, it would absolutely be nice if they provided this option for the stacked charts.
Couple of other options-
Create a bar chart that graphs the totals as one series. Specify that it should show the data values, adjusting an offset so the totals appear to the end/top of the bar, Place the totals chart behind your stacked bar chart. obvioulsy the cahrts have to align precisely.
Another option - concatenate the total amount so it appears as part of teh axis label. This works better for some scnarios than others.
See this video example to get an idea of how this might work.
http://everythingxcelsius.com/2009/06/show-chart-values-without-hovering.html
With SP3, if there are only a few series in your chart, another option you can play with is adding an additional series for each series in your chart. Have a very small value that won't register visually on the chart e.g. .001, and then assign category labels for each series that is total value for a series, and choose to display the lables. Hard ot explain this one well, I 'll see if I can put togeter a simple example. This gets ugly quickly.
I'd love to hear ideas from others.

• Decimal Point data for Stacked Column Chart

Hi,
I use a basic version of a Column chart for one of my projects. I use a stacked column chart with 2 data series namely "Expenses" & "Profit".
I use decimal point numbers (with only two or three places after the decimal point) for both series.
When I mouse over the bars of the output for tool tip, I view more numbers after the decimal point for some data.
How to fix the decimal point to only 2 places & what is the reason for this behaviour?
Attached is the sample output (output.gif) showing the above condition for the mentioned data.

Create an toolTipShow event handler and use a NumberFormatter to set the precision of the numbers (sample code from LiveDocs):
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<!-- formatters\MainNumberFormatter.mxml -->
<mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml">

private var bigNumber:Number = 6000000000.65;
]]>
</mx:Script>
<!-- Declare and define parameters for the NumberFormatter.-->
<mx:NumberFormatter id="PrepForDisplay"
precision="0"

decimalSeparatorTo="."
thousandsSeparatorTo=","

useNegativeSign="true"/>
<!-- Trigger the formatter while populating a string with data.-->

• Financial Reporting Chart - Waterfall or Step Chart or 2 Y-Axis chart?

Using Hyperion Financial Reports 9.3.1.2 - How do you create a waterfall or step chart using a stacked bar chart in FR chart?
I have created a waterfall or step chart as a stacked bar chart in Excel which shows the Budget figure on the left and the Actual figure on the right, and between them a series of bar columns which show the variance by component (normally departments or salaries, overheads etc.)
I can do all the calculations in a grid rady for the chart, but I have a snag in how to assign the data ranges to different Y-axes in Hyperion FR chart wizard.(I can do it in Excel, but don't know how in FR and can't find sufficient clues in the documentation, online help or Metalink3)
Does Anyone have any suggestions that I could try .... please!
Regards
Nigel

Did anyone find out how to do it?
I would like to know too.
Thx!

• Stacked bar chart colors

I hope someone knows the answer to this question. Can you change the color format of a stacked bar chart line individually (not the whole lines color), I need to hide the min field by using the color white, but when I set the format color to white based on the value of greater than 0, then whole stacked line turns white. I have tried both by series and by group.
thnx in advance,

Not sure I understand. Is it a Stacked BAR chart? a Stacked LINE chart? a combo bar/line stack chart?
Take a look at www.threedgraphics.com and go to CRChart and see if any of our examples look close???

• Lines and shading on stacked column chart

I have created a waterfall chart using a stacked column chart. I have made Series 1 white so that the bars appear to "float" . So far so good. the issue is that the white bars in the default setting have light shading and lines around the outsides. There seems ot be no way to turn that off. The only solution I found was to change the Theme to ITheme. Then the shading and lines go away and I can change the colours how I want them...but of course that theme is now applied to my whole dashboard and I lose all the nice shading effects on the other elements.
Surely all the themes do is apply formatting that must be possible to do manually...I just cant see any option on a stacked column chart to change the shading or lines round the boxes. I have an example chart I can share if required
Any suggestions gratefully received!
Thanks
Tom

Creating a custom chart is not a simple thing (think days, not minutes), and not done within Xcelsius. The group of technologies to do this are referred to as the Xcelsius SDK, there is a dedicated forum on this site here: Flex SDK Development

• Different sort order with line chart and stacked column chart

Hi,
I have a problem with sorting within flash charts.
The chart should be ordered by a date column.
If I'm using a line chart everything is fine. The columns in the chart are in the same order as returned by the query.
If I change the chart type to stacked column chart, I get a wrong order.
It is orderd like 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 1, 2, 3, 4.
What's wrong?
Here the query i use:
SELECT NULL AS link,
TO_CHAR (zeitpunkt, 'dd.mm.yyyy'),
MAX (DECODE (db_sid, 'TI06E', VALUE, NULL)) OVER (PARTITION BY zeitpunkt) AS "TI06E",

ORDER BY zeitpunkt ASC
SQL> desc db_performance_temp
Name Null? Typ
ZEITPUNKT DATE
DB_SID VARCHAR2(30)
VALUE NUMBER

I found the solution.
Anychart seems to have a problem with null values!
The corrupted sorting only occured for a specific set of search criteria and a specific day. At this day some values have been null.
I added a "nvl( [...], 0) for every value.
No I get a correct sort order.

• One-to-many graph problem

Hi,
I am haviing a crystal report problem. The problem relates to a one-to-many relationship involving two tables.
I have a similar setup to the following:
I have 2 database tables: table1 & table2
table1 consists of 3 fields:
{id#}, {yes/no},{up/down}
table2 consists of 2 fields:
{id#},
the field can contain any of the following values: 'open', 'closed', 'final', 'complete'.
The problem is that there exist many states to one id#.
I have a bar graph in my report that displays a bar for the count of the{yes/no} field and a bar for the count of the {up/down} field. I want also a bar for the count of when the field = 'final'.
What happens when I write a formula for the field in the second table and place it in the 'show values' section of the chart expert, is the count displayed in each bar on the graph increases significantly. I am assuming this is because there are multiple records in table 2 for each record in table 1.
What I want to happen is that the graph displays bar 1 and bar 2 correctly and then when I put in the formula for the third bar, it simply displays that bar with the count for when the field = 'final'. I dont want it to affect the whole garph.
Has anyone got any suggestions on how I can do this?
I have tried messing around with the distinct records setting in crystal and also by writing an sql query specifying DISTINCT keyword instead of using the select expert, but to no avail.
Please please can someone help me with this issue.
Thank you.
J

You can add a 1-1 query key through the code API in a descriptor amendment method. You could also define a selection criteria on the 1-m mapping to filter the type=2.
Example: (see Foundation Library manual 8-17)
OneToOneQueryKey queryKey = new OneToOneQueryKey();
queryKey.setName("organization");
queryKey.setReferenceClass(Organization.class);
ExpressionBuilder builder = new ExpressionBuilder();
queryKey.setJoinCriteria(builder.getField("ORGANIZATION.ORG_ID").equal(builder.getParameter("RELATIONSHIP.PARENT_ID").and(builder.getParamater("RELATIONSHIP.RELATIONSHIP_TYPE").equal(2)));
relationDescriptor.addQueryKey(queryKey);
Example: (of 1-m mapping with selection criteria)
OneToManyMapping mapping = new OneToManyMapping();
mapping.setReferenceClass(Relation.class);
mapping.setTargetForeignKey("RELATION.PARENT_ID");
ExpressionBuilder builder = new ExpressionBuilder();
mapping.setSelectionCriteria(builder.getField("RELATIONSHIP.PARENT_ID").equal(builder.getParameter("ORGANIZATION.ORG_ID").and(builder.getField("RELATIONSHIP.RELATIONSHIP_TYPE").equal(2)));
orgDescriptor.addMapping(mapping);

That's not the right mapping for the 1:m relationship in Hibernate.
First of all, I believe the recommendation is to have a separate .hbm.xml file for each class, so you should have one for Parent and Child.
Second, you'll find the proper syntax for a one-to-many relationship here:
http://www.hibernate.org/hib_docs/v3/reference/en/html/tutorial.html#tutorial-associations
See if those help.
The tutorial docs for Hibernate are quite good. I'd recommend going through them carefully.

• ONE-to-MANY relationship between tables and forms in APEX

I recently started using APEX and I have run into an issue.
I have a ONE-TO-MANY relationship between two tables, A1 and A2, respectively.
A1:
A1_ID
Item
A2:
A2_ID
SubItem
A1_ID
I have 2 forms (lets call it F1 and F2) that I use to capture data for A1 and A2.
On F2, I have the following fields that are setup to capture data:
A2.A1_ID
**A1.Item (this is a drop down that is populated using a SELECT statement where the select uses A1.Item field)
A2.SubItem (user would enter SubItem)
Note: A2.A2_ID is populated using a SEQ
Everytime I pick **A1.Item on F2, is there a way to link to A1 table and display A1.A1_ID for every **A1.Item selected on F2?
If so, I want to store the value captured in F2 for the A1_ID field into A2 table to maintain my 1-to-MANY relationship.
If this will work, how do I go about implementing this solution?
Can someone help me?

I think it sounds like you are asking for a Master-Detail form. Try that and see what you get.

• How to resolve many-to-many join by 2 one-to-many joins

Hi,
I was asked many times how to resolve many to many relationship between two tables. I read to use 2 one -to- many relationships to resolve this. Can some expalin me when many to many relationship occurs between two tables and how to reslove them with practicle examples. Is there any article on this?

• Urgent : java bean having bidirectional one to many relationship

Hi,
We have complex requirement in our application.
We need to copy java bean having bidirectional one to many relationship to another javabean having bidirectional one to many relationship..
E.g
Class Basket1 {
public String color;
pubic String type;
public List<Basket1> basketList = new ArrayList()
Class Basket2 {
public String color;
pubic String type;
public List<Basket2> basketList = new ArrayList()
We need to exact copy Basket1 to Basket2. We are in trouble to copy List of child because we do not have how many child Basket1 have of same type..
Can someone help us how we can implement such kind of complex object bidirectional one to many relationship??

I can't see anything bidirectional about these relationships. What I can see is a couple of BasketN classes that look identical so I don't know why they both exist, and they both contain lists of themselves as members, which suggests some kind of tree structure. Nothing bidirectional there. I can see tat these things can form circular object graphs but I don't see why you would want to do that.
We need to exact copy Basket1 to Basket2And I don't know what that means. Please explain.
