Hello! Is flash media interactive server able to help me
build an online multiplayer game with chat between players?
And if it's the right choice, how many users can be online at
one time (on the chat and in private games) and do i need multiple
servers for a large number of users? And if i do really need a more
than 1 server, how the balancing between servers will be made?

Different users have different browsers with different jvms, and they sit behind different firewalls. To send messages from the server to an unsigned client applet you could use polling or piggybacking.

Best way to build an online game with chat functionality

i need to build an online game like the ones on yahoo with chat functionality.
do i need to invent my own protocol for communicating between the client applet and the server application or i can use a higher level protocol like rmi or jaxm.
as far as i know the problems with rmi would be
1. there would be no way for server application to send messages to clients without signing my code.
2. rmi would not run on browsers with older versions of jre. though clients can install latest versions, but i don't want that.
would there be similar issues with jaxm or jms.
do i need to invent my own protocol. what benefits would udp bring than tcp/ip.
is there some higher level protocol which would take care of network problems on the internet. what about performance. what would happen if the connection between the client and server breaks down. how do i know of that.

Implement a multi-threaded multi-client/multi-server strcuture.
Each client-server channel is used for a specific operation
such as one for the gamming data, and another for the chat relay.
These channels will be controled by the application (game) and so
can update the chat text and game data at the same time without
the game having to read a file that is being writen by another
IO stream comming from the server.
I have not done this and I dont plan to, but in deisgn it should work.

WRT160N V2 I can't online Game with friends on Wii

I am able to connect online and get online when I play my wii but anytime I try to online game with a friend it disconnects and I recieve the nintendo error code 86070. I have worked through all the possible options through nintendo with no luck. I need someone to give me step by step instructions on how to correct this issue. Everyone is convinced I need to change some properties on my router but I am not sure how to do that. The instructions all need to apply to a MAC computer. Thank you please please help...I am about to throw this router out the window.

You need to do port forwarding on your router...
Open an Internet Explorer browser page.In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1
Leave username blank & in password use admin in lower case...
Click on "Applications and Gaming" tab and then click on "Port Range Forwarding" subtab...
1) On the first line in Application box type in ABC, in the start box type in the port number and End box type in the same port number entered in the start box, leave the protocol as both and under ip address type in 192.168.1.20 and check the enable box...click save settings...
NOTE : Port Number should be obtained from nintendo...
Follow the same step if you have multiple port numbers...Set the IP address for the ports to forward to the same as the Wii's static IP that you assigned in the previous step on this page.

Unable to join online games with 10.5.1, 2 or 3.

So, basically I have a problem as well as some of the other friends I have. The problem is that I'm rarely able to join certain users of the game that I play online on gameranger called " Age of Empires II." This problem hasn't bothered me until lately, because usually it's always me that hosts the game (which works fine by the way) However, when I jump over to a game room that I'm not hosting, I am able to join the actual Pre-game room, but then once the host presses "Start" I get the "Unable to Join game" message. And before you ask, IP joining does not work either. I have a few other friends with the exact same problem, same OS, same issue. I've been told that this has to do with the settings in my router, well, I don't have a router, just a modem. I've called my ISP and they have said that the modem is set (by default) to not block any connections going in or out. I have my firewall tab set to "allow all incoming connections" as well. I'll say right now that there are actually a few select hosts that I can join with, only a few, and when I talk to them, they say they have a 10.5 OS and I can join their game just fine. So if I figure out what they did to enable me to join them, then it should work the other way around. So my question is, what did those few hosts do to their computer to make it so I could join?

No firewall on, the firewall tab in my security pane is set to "allow all incoming connections" is there another firewall that I need to worry about?

HELP iSight does not work online or with Chat Roulette

So I have tested the iSight with photo booth, skype and other things like that. They all detect the camera, and work with the program fine. I was on Chat Roulette yesterday (the first night with my macbook) and it worked fine. The next day I tried to go on and it didn't work. For some reason it will not detect it. I have tried everything! I keep hitting allow and adjusting settings and nothing seems to work. I would really appreciate some help. Oh ad flash is updating and working correctly.

Therefore, if you are determined to continue trying to get Chatroulette working again although these suggestions do not help you, a web search might let you find other ideas in a third-party Chatroulette discussion forum.
Chatroulette previously worked for you but now does not, and you have already tried everything. If you are still cannot make Chatroulette work, the only remaining thing you can do is use a different website, at least to test whether your system is working with Flash-based browser chat sites. If neither mebeam nor tokbox work for you either, you may need to restart your modem and router/wireless access point again.

I want to know why I can no longer get payment options for an online game I play with the firefox browser?

when I try to purchase items on my online game I can no longer buy them.For some reason firefox stops the payment options from showing.I choose what I want to buy but when it comes to paying for it thats when nothing happens.No payment option is offered.All that is there is what I have picked to buy.Before it would offer payment options when I had picked what I wanted to purchase but this no longer happens and no payment options are given.It is left like that until I stop and just leave.I would like to know why it now does this?

4 player split screen games with online modes?

Hey guys! I am looking for a game with a 4 player split screen possibility AND a online possibility.I organise gamenights with 2 screens, 2 ps3's, 8 controllers and 8 players.I think the only game i found is Black Ops 2 (zombie mode with 2 teams). I'm not sure, can somebody confirm this?I have enough games for 4 players on 1 screen (Diablo III, Tekken TT 2, LBPlanet 2,...), but now i'm looking for games with an online game mode. Do I REALLY have to use 3 tracks, a gradient and composite modes just for (what should be) a simple effect?
Why do you think using 3 tracks isn't simple?
The quickest way would be to create a vertical divider by using a color matte, cropped and feathered or make one in Photoshop and place it on V3.

Online Games Problems With WRT54G Router

Hi There ppl,
I have a Lan House with 50 comps working, and most of my costumers are looking for online games entertainment (Cabal Online, Ragnarok, Dota, CS, 9 Dragon etc). We have an 8 Gb DSL connection and another one of the same speed for back-up (not running simultaneously at the moment). We should be having outstanding results for online gamming (and we were before installing the new router) but we are having several problems since we install a new LinkSys WRT54G router here. Our physical configuration is the modem, followed by the router, than three DLink Switches(24 ports) and my main computer. Everything cable
What we noticed is that the Internet connection looks normal (even using the command "ping", nothing strange appears, no timed out at all!) but online games (specially the above mentioned) have an intermitent connection. (Some times they connect, some dont)... Looks like it happens usually when I have the house crowded, but already showed also with it empty.
Another issue is that I am using the LinkSys Advisor to help identifying this problem, but I am getting even more confused, because its giving new information each time I refresh the "my network" window. Also happens when showing "My Network Settings" on the Support Tab.
Im using Firmware 8.00.0, what I think is the newest.
I didnt try any forwarding port issue yet, as I would like to receive more information about it (never needed to configure anything related before). Concerning the MTU value I already tryed withou any significantly result.
Please If anyone had the same problem, or have any idea of other possible tests, i would appreciate a lot.

Tks for your attention and reply to my issue!! Yesterday right after posting here (when we closed the doors and I could be able to work on it) I did get the latest one (8.00.2) and also set up manually the MTU value to 1500 (standard is automatic). I also unckeck the "anonymous internet request bock", "Multcast filter" and "Filter NAT forwarding", all of them were checked as standard. I also checked the "HTTPS Internet Access" (standard is only HTTP).
At a first moment I could get a very low sensitive better result (but the Lan was closed, so I had the entire 8Gb for my requests). I came back to work right now, and we have about 30 ppl in, mostly using the Internet, MSN and so... I am trying yo connect to Cabal Online, and GG-Esports (Warcraft, Dota) both of them giving the same problems as always... I am really getting tired and disapointed with LinkSys, I really though I would have much more than I am having right now.
Anyway I gonna keep trying each night to see what I cant get. I do post here If I find any solution (or if I really decided to move to another brand)

Anarchy Online - game stucks with Creative-Ca

Greetings
I bought a Creative X-Fi Xtreme Music a while ago, and while everything runs fine, there's one game that is hell to play when you turn the sound on: Anarchy Online (www.anarchy-online.com).
While i am not the only person with this issue, the official tech-forums of the game are crowd with reports of issues on the game with Creative X-Fi and Audigy cards; latest drivers help nothing at all.
The game and music runs fine, but every few seconds it gets stuck for a few seconds completly, both game and sound.

Memory issues with online games

When playing online games I sometimes receive a message that I don't have enough memory to continue play or the games become so slow to respond that I restart Safari. I am wondering if there will be much difference if I replace the 256k memory for a 512k? Is there anything else I can check or try?
I upgraded my operating system thinking that it might make a difference but it really hasn't. In fact it may be even worse.
I perform the software update weekly and install everything that has to do with the actual operating system.
If anyone has any ideas, they would be greatly appreciated.

Whilst Nortons is longer installed, it was a very instrusive installation, and I have posted a link which is the step by step instruction for uninstalling Nortons, that you may wish to wade through, just to check if the many components of Nortons have been removed from the nooks and crannies of your system.

Also check in Disk Utility, for your Hard disk, does the S.M.A.R.T. status say verified?
However I am inclined to think it is more software than hardware. Having lots of RAM is always good but I am not sure if that really is the problem.
So make sure all that Norton's stuff is gone and when things slow down in Safari emptying all the cookies seems to rejuvinate things for me.
Also consider using Firefox as an alternative.

Connection problems with online games

I have been having problems with all of online games while using the wireless WRT100 router. I am having problems connecting with all the players... Some players I can connect with, but some I can't. I think it might have something to do with a firewall or opening ports. Can someone please help me with this.

are you palying computer games, or using gaming device like XBOX PS3 etc. Which games do you play? Did you try updating firmware?

You need to post a link to the online game site that isn't working so someone can figure out what (plugin?) the site needs to work. Some popular plugins are listed here: [[Popular plugins]]. From your list of plugins, It looks like you already have Java plug-in 1.6.0_23 and 4.0.51204.0 (Silverlight) installed.
You also need to tell us what happens when you visit the site. (Do you see an error message? Does Firefox crash or hang?)

What prog language/tools for a browser based online game ?

I am going to start a project for an multiplayer online game community soon, and need some advice.
The community will consist of the game itself, forum, wiki and irc-chat and use f/oss software to keep the running costs as low as possible.
The game is the heart of the community and will be a turn-based wargame with roleplaying and strategy options, mainly text based with some graphics and animations and played through a browser. (These kind of games are often referred to as Multiplayer Online RolePlaying game MORPG )
The SQL player database will have up to approx 100k player records, each of which will have many fields.
The game code will run 24/7 on a linux server (distro not chosen yet) and needs to fulfill these requirements :
easily maintanable by multiple programmers
programmers should be able to develop/test parts of the code on their own pc's using linux or windows.
good, fast access to the player DB
combat calculations will be mathemically complicated, and need to be fast
User interaction will be through a web-page
A way to keep users from accessing the game code directly to avoid computer players. (it's possible this has more to do with the code structure than with the language)
Most games of this type seem to use a php/ C combination, but that appears to have several drawbacks.
Specifically code maintainability and distinguishing between humans and bots/computer players are a problem for these games.
What environment do you think would fulfill these requirements ?
