Online Portfolio

There are quite a few different options for an online portfolio out there but I found most of them to either be difficult to modify or have too many features that I didn't need or want. So I took a shot at building my own. I would really appreciate your feedback and whether you think this is up to scratch as a professional online portfolio.
Portfolio Template
Thanks.

Well, the answer is yes and no. It depends what you want to do with it.
Personally I "recognize" that it is a quite basic portfolio, but not as a professional one. I am missing a bit more depth, e.g. more navigational elements so that you can show more projects on different pages. The larger the body of excellent work and sets, the more this single page will get overload.
Additionally, I was wondering if it wouldn't be really nice to give the photos more space. We are not living in 800*600 anymore, luckily. Just think about the difference between a small photo and a full-screen displayed photo... It is just more striking and impressive.
These is my humble opinion, - and btw I love the idea of the little "About" link that pushes the page down to display more info. Add some more lovely ideas like that, since you have already a very good basis!

  • Navigation for an online portfolio website

    Hello,
I am creating a webpage to be my online portfolio for my
graphic design work. I used a template, which originally uses a
flash slideshow to navigate through the portfolio pieces. I would
like to have it html instead, and give the user the ability to
    navigate at their own pace.
Everything on the page stays the same always, except for the
box that is the actual portfolio. What I did is create the index
page, and then I just exchanged the portfolio image for every new
page. However, this only looks good after the first run through of
the website and all the images get stored in the cache. For first
time visit, you can obvioulsy see the loading process, and it
creates sort of a flickering with the background image of the
    website.
Here is the website so far, so that you can see exactly what
    I mean: www.jelenaboskovic.com
I already created the website, so to recreate it in frames is
not my first choice. And I heard that frames are not always
recommended. I am a novice webdesigner, so any help would be really
appreciated. I mainly would like to know if there is any other ways
to navigate through my portfolio, without the use of frames, and
without the flickering that it has currently the way that I
    designed it.
Thanks a lot for any help in advance.

I also found a webpage that does exactly what I want:
    http://www.pepfx.com/web_design/website-design1.php#website1
Is this using a javascript? or what?
    PLEASE HELP. Thanks.

  • Online Portfolios

    Hi,
I know this isnt exactly on topic, but i do appreciate the thoughts of fellow Illustrator users and Im having a hard time with this..
For those of you that have online portfolios...what do you think is the best/easiest way of starting one? I do not have dreamweaver, nor do i code, so that is out at the moment. Im not looking to necessarily buy a domain or start my own website quite yet. I just need something to direct people to my work.
So really, what are good sites for those wishing to show illustration/graphic work? good flexibility with layout as well?
I am willing to pay for something if its worth it....
    thanks in advance!
    kevin

If you do some research you will find service providers for a couple of hundred per year plus 10 to 20 dollars for the domain name. some of these provide wizards for making quick web sites and other require you to code. the latter is actually better as you have more control over what your website will look like.
Both Bridge and Lightroom are capable of generating a slideshow or image gallery in either html or flash. The code may not be up to par, but it will work.Just don't tell any html buffs I said its ok to do this, they are quick to shoot down any adobe program except dreamweaver for doing html code.
As for your normal files that are not images, take a screen grab and scale it down for the thumbnail and let it link to your original file. Now that I said that, here is a disclaimer. Don't do it unless you absolutely need to. Why, so your clients or the general public for that matter can not use your files without your permission, Doing so will reduce your income. Its better to show jpg's and or pdf's.that are flattened. Pdf's may need thumbnails so lets call that the exception.
Want a free way to show images and pdf's? Try acrobat.com and photoshop.com also don't rule out yahoo, google, youtube, and vimeo. Some of these will allow you to post a link on facebook or twitter. Plus Lightroom is capable of syncing with some of these sites.

  • Online portfolio functionality help

I'm a clothing designer, and in my sector, portfolios are usually in a book format. I'd like to mimic that format in my online portfolio. The closest I can come is with the slideshow feature: I do a picture page containing all the pages of the "book", and then hope that my viewer will select "slideshow". Has anyone found a way to bypass (or hide) that initial picture page and go straight to the slideshow?
OR could I somehow embed the "book" as a multi page pdf file and have it open in the browser for multipage view through the browser?
Lastly, can anyone suggest something that I'm not thinking of? Maybe templates for this available somewhere?
    Any ideas are appreciated!
    Dave

This is the code I use:
    <embed type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" src="/_Demo/paulsmith/main.swf"
    width="100%" height="50%" style="" id="loader" name="loader"
    bgcolor="#111C22" quality="true" align="middle" scale="noborder" salign="t1"
    flashvars="image1=/_Demo/paulsmith/image-1.jpg
    &amp;image2=/Demo/paulsmith/image-2.jpg&amp;image3=/Demo/paulsmith/image-3.jpg
    &amp;image4=/Demo/paulsmith/image-4.jpg&amp;image5=/Demo/paulsmith/image-5.jpg"></embed>
You paste the embed code in the HTML Snippet.
I added carriage returns for display in this post. Remove them when you use it.
This is the flash file (right-click to download):
    http://www.wyodor.net/_Demo/paulsmith/main.swf
The pictures used are in the same folder.
Paul Smith uses a JavaScript. Make sure he doesn't notice you use his samples.
I now notice that I didn't even bother to change the name of the folder.
Perhaps it's better to create something yourself with free tools. Here's a page that explains it:
    http://www.wyodor.net/iWebBlogTest/Wyodor_1/WebBanner.html
And here's another iWeb page with a similar slideshow:

  • Having problems playing movies on my online portfolio

I've been scouring the internet for an answer to my problem, but have yet to find one.
I've set up a fairly simple online portfolio housing my animation, everything else runs smoothly, except when you get the portfolio section (as you can see if you go to my site: http://www.sugarpollution.com/). I've tried to have it so that videos will pop up and play and then you can exit them by clicking on the X button (which loops back to portfolio section on the timeline). However I have come across several errors that I cannot seem to fix ~ the sound of the video will play in the background if you prematurely exit it and then none of the links above the video buttons will work (which doesn't seem to happen except when you view a video).
I'd paste the action script ~ but now I can't seem to find it which is perplexing, as it runs fine in the preview window.
Help would be much appreciated, thank you.

you need to explicitly stop your video when you click your X button or stop all sound globally (stopAllSounds() ) when it's clicked.

  • Online Portfolios (that integrate with an existing site?)

    Hi All.
I'm using mobile me to show work and this both involves a click on an active link and it involves an external vendor (mac) with a readily identifiable site (mobile me).
Is there such as thing as a site that will allow me to show albums of photos in a reasonably slick way that will not involve completely re-doing my website?
Alternatively, is there a fantastic wordpress theme or something similar that would give me a great looking online website with images?
    Thanks for any advice.
    - Jon

If there is no way to use scrolling boxes in interactive pdfs is there another way to share the file for job interviews, etc.?

    Hi daves,
I've checked your account using the email address/Adobe ID that you use here in the forums, and I don't see any registered products. Is it possible that you registered InDesign under a different Adobe ID?
That said, you might find this document useful: Find your serial number quickly. And you're welcome to Contact Customer Care again; if you did register under a different Adobe ID, they may be able to help you track that down.

  • Portfolio layout question

Hi, I am new to dreamweaver and want to create a very basic online portfolio of my photographic work.  I want to know how to make next/previous buttons on a page so only the image changes as you click either button. An example I found is here http://www.keithdavisyoung.com/
Sorry if it's a silly question! I don't even know what I could search for...
any help would be greatly appreciated

Depends on how much experience you have with code.
You can use any one of several different jQuery slideshow, Gallery or Lightbox scripts.
    http://www.1stwebdesigner.com/resources/57-free-image-gallery-slideshow-and-lightbox-solut ions/
Or, you can use a Web Gallery Creation software like JAlbum which does most of the work for you.

  • WHY make a PDF portfolio?

WHY make a PDF portfolio? There is a lot of information on how but I don't understand why. What is the point, why not make something else? Does someone have an example of a situation in which makeing a portfolio really benefitted them in ways that other solutions would not have addressed.

Hi Leslie - Behance doesn't do PDF portfolios, but we support image, video, and audio uploads.
As for how Behance and an online portfolio can benefit you, check out some testimonials from our community! http://www.behance.net/testimonials

  • 2 "portfolios" in lightroom

I have been using lightroom for my website   f64architecture.com  for the past 2 years & have been very happy with it. However I now want to split my site into 2 areas, 1)  My business images  & 2) my fine art/personal images. When visitors open my site I would like them to choose between the 2 & then continue as they do now. Can this be done in Lightroom?  Or, is there a 3rd party solution required. It seems that Lightroom is a single "collection" default. My site now has personal images within the business photos.
    Thanks
    Bob Darby

    Hi Bob,
You might also take a look at SlideshowPro for Lightroom:
    http://slideshowpro.net/
    http://slideshowpro.net/products/slideshowpro_player/#ssplr
To divide your online portfolio into two sections, you'll need a home page with links to the two slideshows you produce with SSP.  This is pretty easy to do.  Then you'll make your two portfolios using SSP and copy the files to their respective folders on your web site.
Here's what I did with SSP for my portfolio (Dreamweaver to build the pages):
    http://www.johnblaustein.com/
SSP is completely customizable.  In addition, using SSP Director you have even more options.
    Hope this  helps.....

  • Stock portfolio graphs for website

I currently keep track of a stock portfolio in Numbers, save as a pdf file and drag and drop into text box on my website. This is too time consuming to update everyday on a website.
Is there a stock portfolio tracking website, utility that will do all the work and update my website:
    <Edited by Moderator>

Quicken has an online portfolio site that you can create and track. You should be able to use iFrame code along with the Quicken page url to embed it into your page like I've did on this demo page for a Google map (the lower map) and an iCal calendar.

  • My Macbook pro won't let view any type of video online?

So I don't know much about the techical side of computers, so ill try and explain this as best I can. About 24hours ago my macbook pro stopped letting me into a program I use for University called Pebblepad (which is an online portfolio that I document my work in), I have since tried other sites such as youtube and other sites that have video footage on thier webpage such as facebook ect. and nothing I cannot view anything online.
I'm using Safari, also have firefox neither works, any suggestions?

    Hi d,
Go to Adobe.com, download and install the latest Flash for Mac. I would also get Flip4Mac, and VLC Player.

  • Online Porfolio

First let me say, I am a print designer, so web is a bit
foreign to me. I am attempting to create an online portfolio
website for my print design work, and have run into a few problems.
Does anyone know how to make a button proceed to the next
frame when it is pressed, but not go past a certain frame number? I
assume it requires an if else statement, but I'm a bit lost.
Also, I need the same thing only going backwards. These
buttons will be used for a forward and back command while viewing
images, basically I am trying to create a loop for viewing my
    portfolio.

If you are only stepping a frame at a time you can put a stop
on each keyframe and use this on the main timeline (assuming your
    buttons are also there):

  • Portfolio solution

I am making an online portfolio for my photography. I have made a new design buildt on a blank page. I wish to be able to show my pictures without using the templated photosetup. The only way I have figured out to do that is to make a duplicated page, change the picture and make a "next"-button and hyperlink it to the next page. It´s a hard way to do it, and offcourse it take more time loading each picture in the browser when it´s a new page each time.
Is there an easy and better way to do this?

There are a number of ways to present larger versions of photos from a thumbnail, some more low tech than others. This demo page is one: Fancy Zoom. Another is the method shown in this demo page: Opening Item in a New, Precisely Sized Window.
There are javascript based photo presentations as in these two pages:
    SimpleViewer and Flash Album Exporter
Flash Album Exporter Postcard and AutoViewer Slideshow Themes
