Hi,
how is there sometimes a discrepancy between the posts a person has in these forums and the posts online? What's the difference? Just curious.

The posts online are those recently made, that is, after November the 11th, 2005,
plus those that were still online on Nov. 11 2005.
Posts Online: those we can read.
Total Posts:
Add the total number of posts a member made before Nov. 11, 2005.
Those are archived or removed since a long time, not visible online anymore.

Posting count

I lost nearly 500 previous postings and my posting count did start at 0 two months ago.
Is this a problem only of my account, or had all discussion members to restart at 0?

A large number of problems this time around are caused by the fact that Apple has switched forum software from Web Crossing to Jive. The Jive forum software has a slightly different feature set and some of the features common with Web Crossing are implemented differently. While Web Crossing easily allowed posting cumulative post counts, Jive is set up to display online post counts, so the developers either have to construct a work-around or they have to wait for Jive to add the ability to display cumulative counts.
Custom avatars is another feature that supported by Web Crossing but not by Jive, although Jive has said they expect custom avatars to be added in an upcoming update or upgrade.
While switching to Jive will be beneficial in the long run, the switch has caused short-term problems, and the developers are working on them. Although the new forum was tested before launch, including some users, there was no way they could test it under full load. When the new forum did go live under full load, there were some serious performance issues and these were the issues that the developers concentrated on.
Finally, omitting post counts has been suggested in the past (as well as not displaying or even getting rid of levels), even when the cumulative counts were given and I know of forums that have stopped displaying counts, including some that could display the actual totals.

GET web services works fine.
I have granted the role of apex_rest_public_user to both apex_public_user and the schema owner.

I am experiencing the same issue.
I implemented the 'chunked file loading' example from Kris Rice's blog at Kris' blog: August 2013 in y workspace at the Oracle hosted APEX site and everything works fine.
However, I get a null value for 'data' when I implement the same example at my work site.
Work Site config is
Apache Tomcat 7
Oracle REST Data Services version : 2.0.6.27.18.06
Application Express 4.2.2.00.11
Oracle RDBMS 11.2.0.3
I am NOT using SSL at my work site. However this does not seem to affect a POST with form values.

New number of posts bug(?) + question; no number 100, and total number of posts vary
Intrigued by Tuttle's new attempt to join Niel's old habit to keep his own total number of posts count, I went and start counting my posts since the New Discussions. Because I saved my latest Old Discussions Post-and-Points info, I can see what are the previously-still-online ones (the pre- 14-Nov-2005 01:31 GMT ones), and I know exactly what was my "real" total number of posts before 14-Nov-2005 (2446).
My New Discussions posts number however, is quite uncertain.
Firstly, when I use the "My Posts" link on the right, then clicking on and on on the "Next" link,
my "Viewing 91-100 of 586 -- Pages" shows 91-99 instead of 91-100
(= should show 10 posts, shows 9 posts)
then I go on clicking Next Next Next, and I see the same missing counts happen elsewhere:
my posts number 100, 259, 260, 370, 390, 520, 558, 559, 560, 578, 579, and 580 are missing too.
Note that I wouldn't bother doing all this, and I would have thought it's just very old posts that are automatically deleted like in the Old Discussions,
BUT,
the problem is that when I choose to see all my posts together on the same page
(by using the start=0&range=600 suffix in the URL)
I get a total number of posts that is different (570).
A third way to quickly see all posts without having to load too big page
(using the start=0&range=300 suffix in the URL then only one "Next" click)
shows yet another, different again, number of total posts (573).
And my "official" total number of posts is (586).

- If this can be used as a bug report to fix a counting problem, glad to help.
- If there is no bug, I have two(+) questions then:
1) Was my post number 100 deleted?
(should be around 27-Nov-2005 18:00 GMT)
Also:
I thought the Total Posts number that we see in "My Public Profile" or under the avatar in each post (586), was only the number of posts still online.
- if it is the case, then there are no automatically deleted old posts anymore?
- if old posts are automatically deleted like before, this number should vary?
- if it doesn't vary (it just grows by one per new post), AND at the same time old posts are actually automatically deleted,
it has to show the "real" total number of posts then,
(as it is now, a total starting from the Old-Discussions-still-online-posts, it makes no sense),
that is,
the total posts in the New Discussions PLUS the total posts since first registration in the Old Discussions.
So,
2) What does it show exactly?

Yes, that makes sense and that's what I'm trying to figure in my OP, but then,
after I posted my "#221/2667 post" (11-Dec-2005 21:51 GMT), my originally missing #
259, 260, 370, 390, 520, 558, 559, 560, 578, 579, and 580
should have become
260, 261, 371, 391, 521, 559, 560, 561, 579, 580, and 581
right? (forget the #100: this one we know for sure it's a bug)
Or if the software counts them from the first (now that would have been a good start) instead of starting from the most recent,
they should become
258, 259, 369, 389, 519, 557, 558, 559, 577, 578, and 579
Well, that's not what happened. Now the missing # are
259, 260, 370, 390, 400, 520, 559, 560, 570, 579, and 580
(in addition to the same #100) (#558 and 578 not missing anymore).
As you can see, there is no logic:
It doesn't work as a simple numerotation of StillOnlinePosts, no matter the order
(otherwise there would simply be a straight count from 1 to 575 (=587-12).
It looks indeed like it shows which old posts are being automatically deleted. That the numbers are quite the same would simply show that the old posts dates were so close, of course they are deleted (six months later) almost at the same time,
BUT,
if it was the case, there would never be LESS deleted posts between two StillOnlinePosts, like it happens for example between my StillOnlinePosts #557 and #561.
Please note: of course I stick to the same method to make all my counts. Not manually modifying the URL, just using the default Next-Next-Next- clicking...
Modifying URL would add yet more differences in the differences!..

Too bad it doesn't help looking yourself at my "My Posts", as everything changes each time I'm adding a reply somewhere.
Perhaps a good way to troubleshoot this would be to start from a very simple basis:
--> "name" the posts with a number, starting from the oldest.
This way, for example my "#1" post (11-Dec-2005 21:51 GMT in this thread) would be named "221" in the New Discussions, or "2667" if you start from my Registration date.
At the moment, it is very difficult to figure what fault comes from the "#100 post bug" and what fault comes from another possible counting bug...
Then the New Discussions "fluctuating" refreshing delay too, possibly messes the counts...

My post list is all messed up

Ever since the site update I am having problems.
1) I lost my level 3 status
2) Many posts are missing from My Posts list (the numbers as well as the content). When I page through them it will say posts 81-90 and there will only be 81, 82, 83, 84 for instance.

The older software was doing exactly the same thing: showing only threads which had not yet aged off.
The confusion now caused by the New Discussions software, is that
--> the displayed number ("Posts: xxx", under your avatar) does not reflect them.
In the "Old Discussions":
At first glance (with the avatar) was displayed the total number of posts and the Level.
Then if you clicked on somebody's name, you were shown something like this:

In this example, "371" was the actual and accurate number of posts online, and it ajusted every day.
In the New Discussions, the "Posts: xxx" number pretends to do the same, but it doesn't ajust. What it does is just adding and adding at each new message you write,
thus actually starting a "nonsense" post count, beginning on the New Discussions first day.
So this is the bug.
A small, unimportant bug, that we'd have not noticed if the actual Total Posts count was visible.
But
because the actual Total Posts number is disabled, all we see is this buggy Online Posts count.
"Is it going to be like this from now on?"
I don't know, but I trust our Hosts who are working on it since the beginning, to finally find a solution that fits to the now retrieved responsiveness and stability.

JLabel Icon from online image?

I am writing a program (purely for curiosity-sake) that searches the automotive section of a popular online classifieds website, retrieves the 20 latest ad posts (the 20 newest cars posted), and displays the title ("1969 Mustang, great shape! Must sell!", etc.), price, description, and post time/date in labels in my program (using Swing). This all works fine so far, but one feature I would like to implement is causing me some grief. Each online posting has a thumbnail image which I would like to retrieve and display in my program. I would like to use a JLabel, then set the "icon" property to reference the online image. I don't wish to have hundreds of thumbnails caches in programs' project folder, so is there a way to set the label's icon property to not only an external image, but an online one? I am using NetBeans 6.0.1 and JDK1.6.0_03. In NetBeans, using the Properties window on the right, the "icon" property allows me to choose an external, but local, image -- this doesn't help much. All online thumbnails are the same size (64x48), and my label is the same size (it will be strictly an image displayer, no text). Any help greatly appreciated!

Backup assistant and viewing online

I just set up Backup Assistant, but I don't see my contacts/address book online from my computer. I tried synching from the computer to the phone and vice versa, without any results. I even tried logging out and then back in. Help!!

abbeynormalcats, I know how important it is to have your contacts backed up. I would be lost without my contacts cause no one memorizes numbers anymore.
What device to you have? Do you see the Backup Assistant app on your phone? Try doing a manual sync to make sure the contacts have been backed up. Then check online again.
Keep in mind that in order to view your contacts online you need to sign in using the mobile number of the line you are trying to view the contacts for.
If you are still unable to view your contacts online post back for further assistance.

Posts RESET!!

why has my post count been reset i had over 100 posts before!! i think, because i was on level 2!! they're not searchable either!!

Resize photos for online use

I have been trying all afternoon to resize photos for online use and can not follow directions given. I know it must be simple but I am stumped. I would like to speak to a real person and I'm sure my problem will be solved in less than five minutes. PLEASE do not tell me to follow guidelines; I have tried that.

Hi Kay,
As an example, let's say we're trying to prepare this 1000x664 pixel, 1MB image for online posting.
If the website you're posting to is giving you a maximum dimension, for example that the image has to be 600 pixels across or less, then follow these 4 steps:
1. Go to File -> Save for Web
2. In the Save for Web panel, look for the Image Size boxes.
3. Enter the desired dimension. For example, if the website you're trying to upload to requires that images be 600 pixels across, enter 600 in the Width box. The height should recalculate automatically.
4. Hit the Save button. You will now have an image saved to the required pixel dimensions!
If the requirement is for a maximum file size, rather than specific file dimensions, you would follow a different procedure. If we were trying to resize the same 1000x664 pixel, 1MB image to a size of 100KB or less, we would follow these steps:
1. Go to File -> Save for Web
2. In the upper right hand corner of the Save for Web panel, make sure the format is set to JPEG. Our original image was a PNG, which tends to have a larger file size. JPEG images tend to have a smaller file size.
3. In the Save for Web panel, look for the projected size of the file as saved with the current settings. This is below the lower left hand corner of the image. In this case, it is 170KB, which is higher than our desired maximum size of 100KB.
3. The easiest way to control the file size at a given pixel dimension is by reducing the image quality. The controls for image quality are in the upper right hand corner of the Save for Web panel. The default setting for JPEG exports is 60%.
4. You will need to determine how far you want to reduce the image quality in your particular case. In this example, we can reduce the quality from 60% to 40% without affecting the visible image quality too much. Setting the quality to 40% reduces the image size to 99KB, which is below our maximum of 100KB.
5. When you are satisfied with the quality settings, press Save to save your image.

Total Posts or Current On Line Posts?

I notice that the number of posts under my handle are a "puny" six.
I thought in the "old days" the number of posts in the adjacent column was your total posts. I have ~1,400 posts.
Does the new software reflect current on line posts or is my count in the adjacent column starting over because of the the new Software?
My profile does reflect the proper aggregate number.

Yes, online posts are displayed in the sidebar to the left under our names where total points were once displayed.
My profile does reflect the proper aggregate number.
It's actually a little bit off. The total number of posts in our Profiles reflects our total posts at the time of the last change of forum software, but due to an accounting issue, the number of posts we had online at the time of the last change was inadvertently added together with our total posts, thus the number of total posts displayed in our Profiles overstates our real totals.
You would have to have some record of how many posts you had online at the time of the changeover to know with any certainty how many posts you'd need to subtract from the total that shows in your Profile to arrive at the true number.
You might also notice that at the time of the change in software, the number of points required for each level as well as our point totals were doubled with points being rounded to the nearest five, as the present software only doles out points in increments of five.

External Drive, MAC & PC

hey everyone!
so i purchased an external drive (Western Digital Passport 320gb to be exact) for use of backup and data storage. My problem is this. I was a dumb idiot and didn't do enough research before formatting the drive. i than proceeded to wipe out the (wd320) drive and partition it into 2 partitions using disk utility in OSX. ( i made one partition for general use and one as a backup clone (bootable). this is where the problem lies. when i plug my (wd320) into a mac it's fine; however, windows pc's cannot read this drive. I read some online posts and it is to my new understanding that it needs to be a fat32 partition? is this correct? If so, is there a way for me to add an extra partition to my already partitioned (wd320) without deleting everything?

It takes a bit of work in Terminal but you can have one partition FAT32 and one HFS+. Another option is to format the entire drive FAT32 but you couldn't backup System files to it, only data.

Do not buy a 4510L - internet randomly hangs while browsing - likely 4G network issues

Ok, so I was excited to jump into a 4G wifi hotspot. I did some quick research and noticed the Samsung 4G hotspot was having some internet connection issues. Samsung had released an update but I didn't want to bother. I mentioned to the Verizon Wireless sales person the hotspot issues and she mentioned she hadn't seen any issues with the Samsung or Mifi device... so I purchased the mifi4510L... and so starts the nightmare!
So the mifi4510L device started up and I connected to the internet. My connection speed was slower than my 3G ATT smartphone. I restarted the device a few times and finally noticed really high speeds both down and up. Apparently upon reading the manual, at first it was flashing yellow (3G connection) and after 30 minutes it finally found the 4G (flashing green) with 4 bars.
I immediately start noticing that when I'm working, websites start to randomly hang... using windows xp. I restarted the device numerous times, took out the battery, sim card and it still would hang on random websites. So I tried using my personal Windows 7 laptop... same problem... how about my Android smartphone on wifi... same problem... oh and an old laptop I have at home with Windows Vista... same problem.
So, of course, the first thing to do is jump on google to see if this is a wide spread problem with mifi. The problem is though, that many people don't know how to describe the problem. I saw a few instances of people having somewhat similar problems and exchanging the device numerous times and even switching out sim cards.
By now it is very late at night/early morning. I thought since many people seem to be having issues maybe Verizon customer service would be aware of the problem and could help. Well now I was talking to someone who barely speaks english. He has no idea about what this mifi thing is and has never dealt with any tech support regarding the device. I was put on hold while he researched the issue, I asked about resetting the device, and he mentioned the Mifi has no reset button... later, I found a pdf of the manual and found the reset button..I was working in the dark and never noticed it was right there in front of me, So before I hung up the phone, Verizon customer service promised they would call within 48hrs and give me an update on what they had found... It's been a month and still no call.
So a week later, the problem is still occurring, even at different locations with 4bars on 4G. I decided to stop by the Verizon wireless store. I asked about issues with the mifi and was told there weren't any issues. I found this strange since I had now seen so many posts online about the problems people were having. I tried every salesman in the store and was told the same. Ok so now I wanted to try out the Samsung hotspot. At first I was told I could only exchange it for another mifi... then they said oh I would just have to pay a restocking fee. Some online posts seemed to suggest that exchanging the device and sim card helped so I did just that. I made it home, and the first thing I notice is that now I had no sim card... a trip back to the store to pick up the sim card. It took about 10-15 minutes before it established the 4G connection but I was back up and running. I was online for about 10 minutes and no hang so I went to bed.
Another week goes by and now I am really frustrated. Calls to Verizon are the typical; there are no problems, just reset,restart,or go exchange for a new one.
And now I found the following video that suggests it's the 4G network itself.

Verizon is supposed to be a great company! Why would they destroy their reputation just to make a quick few million dollars. The Customer Service/tech support was a horrible experience and the 4G network doesn't seem to work properly.
A call tonight to Verizon concluded with "well with any new technology there are bound to be some issues, over time Verizon should have some type of fix".
Where is the class action lawsuit?!?!

JV1, if you are early enough to get out of the contract, do it! If you browse through these forums (and other on internet) you will find this is Verizon 4G, it will NOT get better anytime soon. This problem has existed since launch, through the 4510L is the worst device they have, it's not the culprit, I have had all of them. It is the network.
Oh and by the way, Verizon isn't stupid, someone else pointed out to me the small print on the contract prohibits you from pursuing a class action suit against them. All disputes have to be settled by arbitration which is binding per contract. Guess they knew this would happen......

Profit center is missing in profit center report

Dear Expert,
I created a billing , but the profit center document is not created automatically / missing. in fact I already maintained the profit center in material master, and also in OKB9 I have select the profit segment for sales account.
I checked in the journal , there is an information about the profit center same as in the material master which i have maintained. but when i checked in the profit center report there is no such profit center data enter from that billing transaction, then I tried transaction using T-code 1KEK, error message occur "cannot post profit center xxx in Fiscal Year 2010". I have checked the period is correct and profit center is active.
Please help.. why the profit center is missing?

How to delete Mail account without losing old mail?

I've recently changed ISPs, so I have three old accounts/addresses in Mail that are no use any more. I want to delete them, but Mail (and Mail Help) tells me if I do I'll lose all the mail that has been sent or received from/by those accounts. I tried unchecking the Enable box in the Advanced tab in Preferences:Accounts, but then all the mail the disabled address had received (hundreds of messages) disappeared. I was able to get them back by re-enabling the address, but now I again have three extra addresses in the selection popup on new messages, so if I don't catch it, a message can be "sent" by a non-existent address. (It bounces, and I have to select the right address and send it again.) I don't want to lose years of emails, I just want to delete some addresses I no longer use. Anyone know how?

Wish I'd known all this (which is not explained anywhere in Mail's online Help, at least not that I could find) before I went through the tedium of manually sorting through all the messages. And I still don't understand why a search of the Inbox by the to-be-deleted email addresses failed to find some 20 messages which appeared in those addresses' individual boxes when I expanded the Inbox to show individual accounts.
Many other email clients utilize a single large database file which is not dependent on individual account and associated mailbox filing. ... Entourage uses a single large database file and I don't prefer using an email client that stores all data in a single file.
I certainly agree, and in fact was horrified to learn that Outlook Express does the same, which has resulted in disasters for many users. "All your eggs in one basket," anyone? Funny how folks are always pointing out to me that Apple software, despite glaring flaws, is better than Micro$oft. Since I got my first Mac in 1988, I've never used any Micro$oftware -- or any other computer. "Better than Microsoft" is not the same as "as good as it could be with a little effort," and nowhere near the "insanely great" of the early Macintosh years.
In the early Internet years I used Netscape, which was excellent in its time; in the last few Classic Mac years, when Netscape 4.x simply couldn't do the job anymore (and Netscape 6 turned out a disaster), I switched to iCab and Eudora. I stayed with Eudora in X 10.2, finally switching to Mail sometime in 10.3, because Eudora was, well, looking increasingly ugly in the X environment, and Mail is part of the OS X package and Unicode-savvy (one of OS X's primary draws for me), and I figured I'd better become familiar with it since I support other Mac users.
In Eudora, which does not store all mail in a single database (each mailbox is a single file, not encrypted, easily readable in a text editor), and which BTW comes with a comprehensive PDF manual, "When you delete a personality, all messages associated with that personality (both incoming and outgoing) are assigned to your Dominant personality." Which doesn't require the user to do a lot of research and work to avoid losing years of mail, and makes a lot more sense to me. And is why it had never occurred to me before that such a simple thing could turn into such a hassle; I've changed addresses before and never noticed a hole in the road. So it can be done. Eudora also keeps its mail in the Documents folder, a lot easier to back up than Mail's, which the user must hunt for.
And yes, I've been tempted to return to Eudora -- I never see any online posts about "Eudora just lost all my mail!!!" while I see many such about Mail -- but it would be a big hassle (Mail's proprietary mbox files are not easily readable by anyone else), and like I said, I have to be familiar with Apple's software, since it's what my clients will be using. I certainly do prefer Mail's look & feel, if not some of its quirks.
I did some research to find out more about the filing structure for each email client....
Nice if you have the time/energy and knowledge/expertise to do that kind of research, but most users don't, and prefer the software to "just work" in a way a non-techie user (who paid as much -- or more -- for the computer as the software engineering major) would intuitively expect. As in not tossing all your mail just because you've changed your address.
There is one more thing you can do which is mark your question as answered.
