Only 'oracle' account can connect via sqlplus

Currently, only the linux oracle account can connect to the
server via sqlplus. A have put an exact copy of oracle's
.profile script into other accounts home directories, and those
accounts belong to the linux dba group. When another account
starts sqlplus, they are prompted with login and password, and
the the following error occurs:
ORA-01034 ORACLE NOT AVAILABLE
But if I login as 'oracle', i can connect no problem. I always
start the server under the oracle account with the dbstart
script.
I am probably overlooking something stupid, any ideas?
Please email me directly in addition to the post.
Thanks,

There is nothing to do with your .profile, default password, etc.
After Oracle installation via the installer (orainst), have you
run root.sh? Root.sh will set the setuid/setgid bit on for the
file $ORACLE_HOME/bin/oracle. If it is not set, only the owner
(i.e. oracle/dba) can connect.
Fix the problem by rerun root.sh. If it doesn't help, simply run
the commands:
$ chown oracle:dba $ORACLE_HOME/bin/oracle
$ chmod ug+s $ORACLE_HOME/bin/oracle

  • Can Connect via Database Control but Cannot Connect from Enterprise Manager

    Hi experts,
This is a 10g database on a Windows server.
when I remote into the server:
    - I CAN connect via the web-based Database Control
    - I CANNOT connect to any db/instance via regular Ent Mgr - get the ugly "ORA-12154 TNS: could not resolve the connect identifier specified" error.
I thought both tools used the same connection files (tnsnames, listerner etc), but maybe not.
When db control connects, but Enterprise Manager cannot, what should I check to find the problem?
    Thank you.
    John

    Thanks madrid.
I eventually got it to work by changing the tnsnames.ora in the client_1 folder
    This is the original:
    FS9ENFP1 =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = PNCLAFDB)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SID = FS9ENFP1)
    (SERVER = DEDICATED)
    ORCL=
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = PNCLAFDB)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SID = orcl)
    (SERVER = DEDICATED)
    EXTPROC_CONNECTION_DATA =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC1))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SID = PLSExtProc)
    (PRESENTATION = RO)
I removed the EXTPROC entry and added entries for the ORCL and FS9ENFP1 databases, specifying server_database like this:
    FS9ENFP1_PNCLAFDB =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = PNCLAFDB)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SID = FS9ENFP1)
    (SERVER = DEDICATED)
Not really sure WHY it is necessary to list an instance twice, once without server name and another with server name... but EM is able to connect now. I simply modeled tnsnames after another Oracle server where EM was able to connect.

  • Only one Mac can connect

    Cheers,
my girl friend got a iMac running 10.5.4, I have a MacBook running 10.4.11. We got our ADSL connection now running, and use a ZyXEL Prestige Router to connect to the internet. The problem is that only ONE Mac can connect, which is a no-go as we often need to access the internet at the same time (working from home). I tried to put the DHCP off in the router and have it on in the Macs, didn't work, on in the router and off in the Macs, didn't work.
I read the forums but didn't find any help to my problem, and would be thankful if someone is able to help us out.

Well, I hooked up the Airport Express to the ZyXEL and turned off the WLAN off the ZyXEL, and it works fine, both Macs can connect and they don't disconnect every 30 minutes. However, to preserve some energy and possibly to get rid of the ZyXEL, does anyone know if there's a ASDL plug in which I can plug a ethernet cable in so that it goes directly from Plug to Airport?

  • I have an Apple AirPort Extreme Base Station (Simultanious Dual_Band) (MC340LL/A), and updated the software.  After updating no devices can connect via wifi.  Any suggestions.

I have an Appl,e AirPort Extreme Base Station (Simultaneous Dual_Band( MC340LL/A.  After updating the software, no devices can connect via wifi.

As suggested in another discussion area, (AirPort), I reset the AEBS to factory defaults. On the TV, I went to >Settings>General>Network>Configure Wireless>Wireless Networks. I could then see the generic "Apple Network xxxxx" on the TV. From my MacBookPro, I verified that I could connect to the TV by launching iTunes and noting that the TV was now visible in the "Devices" menu. Went back to the AEBS and ran through the "Setup" routine. I did NOT use the "Previous Settings" but instead, saved the old settings profile, created a new wireless network and new settings profile and enabled WPA2 Personal encryption. I then went back to the TV and went through the "Settings" routine again (as noted above). This time, after entering my WPA2 password, the TV connected to the network and problem was solved. Thanks.

The connection export function it's available in 2.1.1.64, you need to right click on the main Connections node, and it will allow you to export all or part of the current connections, or import from a previously exported file.
As for the highlight statement feature it's available in SQLDeveloper; actually you do not even have to highlight the required statement, as long as you take the habit of ending every statement with a ";", in this case you only need to place the caret inside the statement and SQLDeveloper will automatically highlight it for you (if you want to manually highlight a statement you can still do so without problems).
Finally as a last try to solve your connection problem without having to call for network support you could try to check
Preferences -> Database -> Advanced -> Use OCI/Thick DriverThis will force SQLDeveloper to use your oracle client for connections instead of it's native JDBC based connections (even if you use TNS based connections you will still use JDBC unless you have this checked).
As for other graphical tools for Oracle there are many both free or for a price.
    1) In the for price world Toad stands out, i heard of a free option too but I'm not sure of the limitations.
    2) For free you can use DBVisualizer which is fairly good (never used it too much thou).
    3) Finally there is SQuirreL which is both free and open source but it has fairly basic functionality compared to the two above.
Obviously there are many others, but IMHO few will provide you with the same functions of SQLDeveloper or Toad for Oracle databases

  • Only one computer can connect to internet at a time!

When my modem is connected, I plug one ethernet line into one computer. That computer sometime has access to the internet, but sometimes it doesn't work, and another computer is able to access the internet. Each computer uses different cables. When one computer has internet, other computers cannot access the internet if we decide to connect via another cable. Using the same cable doesn't work, also. Sometimes, all computers cannot access the internet.
For example, this computer I am using to write this currently has internet. However, when I unplug this computer's ethernet line from the modem and connect the other computer's ethernet line into the modem, it cannot connect. (Safari cannot connect to the internet.) Network diagnosis has a GREEN light next to "Built-In Ethernet," YELLOW for "Network Settings," and RED for the rest (ISP, Internet, Server)
Lastly, in the Network Status in System Preferences, Built-In Ethernet is YELLOW and says that it has a self-assigned IP address. However, I did not self assign the IP and is set to 'Automatic.'
    Thank you so much!

Do I understand this correctly? You have one modem with one ethernet jack on it. Only one computer can have access to the internet at a time, depending on who you plug in to the modem? If the computers have wireless capability, you don't have a wireless access point or wireless router, so you can't take advantage of the computers' wireless. You don't have a wired hub or more than one ethernet jack on the modem nor do you have a stand-alone router (that plugs into the single ethernet jack on the modem) with multiple ethernet jacks, so multiple computers cannot connect to the internet simultaneously.
If this is the case, then when you turn on a computer that isn't plugged in, since there is no router there for it to obtain an address from (I'm assuming your computers are set up for DHCP), it is going to try to create/join it's own ad-hoc network and give itself a self-assigned address beginning with 169.x.x.x. (If you had a multi-port hub or wireless access point, with no routing capabilities, this is how you could set up an isolated network of computers without access to the outside world but with access to each other).
Meanwhile, your modem is either giving the plugged-in computer a 192.x.x.x or a 10.x.x.x address (unless you changed stuff in it) or it is passing your public IP address presented to it by your ISP straight through to your plugged-in computer (that was plugged when when you booted up).
So when you unplug one and plug in another, the network settings don't match. If you unplugged one and plugged in the other and then booted up the other one, I would expect to see a working internet connection at that point.
If my original assumption of your home configuration is in error, please describe how you are set up, e.g., internet<-->modem<-->router<-->computers or whatever. Maybe do that anyways, even if my assumption is accurate. Describe whether your modem employs NAT or is in bridge mode? Does it have a DHCP server and is it enabled or is it set up for static IP on your home LAN? Describe whether your router, if not built into the modem, employs NAT or is in bridge mode? Does it have a DHCP server and is it enabled or is it set up for static IP on your home LAN? How are your network settings configured in your computers? DHCP or other (what)? A visit to your modem and/or router configuration pages, to see what the external WAN address (a.k.a. public IP address) (at least the first one or two or three octets), and what do your computers' sys prefs IP address, router address, and DNS server addresses say they are, would be helpful, too (you can safely divulge publicly full 192.x.x.x, 10.x.x.x, and 169.x.x.x addresses because they are not routable). I don't know about other folks reading this, but I would need to know quite a bit more about your home network architecture and configuration.

  • Can connect via VPN, but can't access AFP server on same Xserve

    Hi:
I've set up our XServe with MacOS X Server 10.5.2 to do AFP and VPN (L2TP only; PPTP is disabled). The XServe is a standalone server, not connected to any other direstory server.
I can connect to the XServe's AFP server from my Mac over our wired and wireless network. The AFP server shows up in the sidebar of Finder windows. So far, so good.
I am able to successfully connect to our network via the VPN with Mac OS X 10.5.2 client (on two different machines) using L2TP through our network's firewall (on a Netopia T1 router; UDF ports 500 and 4500 and IP Protocol 50 and 51 are open) using a shared secret.
But I cannot connect to the XServe itself to use Server Admin or AFP (using afp://server.company.com or afp://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx via the Go > Connect to Server command).
The error I get while connecting to the 10.5.2 AFP server is Some data in apf://server.mycompany.com could not be read or written (Error Code -36 ). I saw this error associated with a SMB problem in 10.4.x, but SMB is not running.
Other iChat users in my office also do not automatically show up in the Bonjour list when I connect to the network. Other computers on our network do not appear in the sidebar of a Finder window. (I'm told these are to be expected, as Bonjour isn't supported (in the "local area Bonjour" over a WAN link - it's purely a multicast feature on the network in the office, and won't be routed across the VPN link. True?)
Now, here's the odd part. There is a second server (v10.4.11) on our network running AFP. I can connect to it (using afp://server.company.com via the Go > Connect to Server command) and mount its various sharepoints via the VPN.
The only thing I see in the VPN log that seems amiss is this (but I have no idea what it means):
    Tue Mar 11 23:09:27 2008 : Unsupported protocol 0x8057 received
--Both the 10.5.2 and the 10.4.11 servers have DNS properly configured (though our ISP; we're not running our own DNS).
--Both servers and the client have public IP addresses and have the same subnet mask. Network Utility confirms this while connected to the VPN.
--NAT is not running. The ISP is responding with public IPs for the servers.
--The firewall for the 10.5.2 server is not running (but will be once I get this all working).
--The IP address range for the VPN server doesn't overlap our DHCP pool (which also currently uses public IP addresses).
--Any user can access any service.
--No network routing definitions have been set up.
--In essence, I've followed the steps on Pages 141-142 of the Network Services Admin Guide.
One other note: After I connect, the Network Preferences > VPN > Advanced > TCP/IP window shows the IP address for the client just fine (assigned from the VPN pool), but lists the router as having the IP address of the XServe (rather than the router on the network). Is that normal?
I'm hoping I don't need to have the XServe run DNS as an internal LAN DNS server.... And I'm not sure why I would have to if I can already successfully connect to the 10.4.11 AFP server .
What simple step am I missing?
    TIA,
    mm

"I am able to successfully connect to our network via the VPN with Mac OS X 10.5.2 client (on two different machines) using L2TP through our network's firewall (on a Netopia T1 router; UDF ports 500 and 4500 and IP Protocol 50 and 51 are open) using a shared secret."
I suspect you mean UDP ports and you might need UDP port 1701 open too.
You only need IP protocol 50 (ESP), protocol 51 (AH) isn't used. And ESP is only used when client and server isn't behind NAT (when NAT is used only the UDP ports are used).
    "Unsupported protocol 0x8057 received"
This is usually seen when you can't get GRE through but since you don't use PPTP I can't be sure why this is registered in the logs. Sometimes when connecting using PPTP you have to disconnect and then reconnect for everything to work - you might try this for L2TP too.
But if you already can reach services on any LAN nodes through the VPN I wouldn't bother with it.
As you have a firewall in front of the server you need a second alias IP on the server that you can use to get at the services running on the server through the VPN. The firewall blocks all ports protocols not opened - that's why you can't use the server main IP even if the VPN is up.
The netmask is used by all nodes to determine how big your subnet is: what part of the IP number is the network number and what range the node number is in => really: should traffic be directed to a node on the same LAN or sent directly to the gw/router for forwarding.
What you can't do is connect from a NATed network to another NATed network that both are using the same network number. (That's why people should stay away from using the "default" 192.168.0.0/24 and 192.168.1.0/24 networks for VPN server LANs).
Try your settings at http://www.jodies.de/ipcalc to see what I mean.
"...lists the router as having the IP address of the XServe (rather than the router on the network). Is that normal?"
Yes. The VPN server is the VPN gw/router.
"The firewall for the 10.5.2 server is not running (but will be once I get this all working)."
If you already have a firewall in front of your servers that is a bit redundant.
"--No network routing definitions have been set up."
"I'm hoping I don't need to have the XServe run DNS as an internal LAN DNS server"
You need routing definitions if you want to setup a split tunnel VPN or all traffic is routed through the VPN when connected. The VPN becomes the default gw.
Without ipforwarding ON in the server you can only reach nodes on the server LAN - not Internet.
DNS is needed for your servers forward and reverse names/IPs for advanced services but doesn't need to run in any of your own servers.
If you decide to do a split tunnel VPN config (adding public and private routing definitions) a reachable DNS IP for VPN clients (in VPN config on server) is needed for VPN clients or they can't use names to find anything. To reach this DNS IP if public/not on your server LAN, you need your server to forward IP DNS lookups and have a routing definition for it.
A split tunnel VPN only send traffic for your server LAN through the VPN and all other traffic directly to the local gw/router (Internet).

  • VPN clients can connect via SSTP but not IKEv2 due to error 808

I have a Windows Server 2012 R2 with RRAS configured to allow SSTP / IKEv2 VPN connections. I'm using an external certificate for server authentication and the client authentication is done via domain username/password (Protected EAP). The clients can
connect successfully when using SSTP, but if IKEv2 is selected, then the following error is displayed:
    Error 808:
The network connection between your computer and the VPN server could not be established because the remote server refused the connection. This is typically caused by a mismatch between the server's configuration and your connection settings. Please
contact the remote server's Administrator to verify the server configuration and your connection settings.
My external certificate has the Server Authentication EKU but not the IP security IKE intermediate, however it's the only
certificate installed, so I believe the certificate is OK.
Any ideas on what is causing the error?
    Thank you.

    Hi,
What NAT device you are using? You must configure the IKEv2 related protocol on your NAT device too. For example if you are using the Cisco® NAT device you must
enable the IKEv2 support on the outside interface:
Enabling IKE on the Outside Interface
You must enable IKE on the interface that terminates the VPN tunnel. Typically this is the outside, or public interface. To enable IKEv1 or
IKEv2, use the crypto ikev1 | ikev2 enable command from global configuration mode:
    =================================================
    crypto ikev1 | ikev2 enable interface-name
     For example:
    hostname(config)# crypto ikev1 enable outside

  • Can connect via ODBC but not via SQL Developer?

    Hi, all.
    My setup:
    Windows XP Pro
    JDK 1.6
    SQL Developer 2.1.1.64.45
I'm attempting to connect to an Oracle DB using OS authentication and trying hand-entry of the host and SID; and also trying my TNS file. When I attempt to connect via SQL Developer, I get the following error:
"Status : Failure -Test failed: ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied."
When I attempt this same connection, however, using ODBC and Access, I can get right in and see the tables.
What can I try in order to get SQL Developer working correctly?
    Thanks,
    IVR Avenger

I'm not really familiar with connections Using OS authentication, but if OCI+TNS based connections work you could try to activate OCI connections by selecting
Preferences -> Database -> Advanced -> Use OCI/Thick Driverand then use the TNS connection type when creating your connection.
It should work well even with the thin driver but i cannot help you in this case because i've never had to use this kind of authentication.

  • Can connect via Ethernet but not via AirPort

I'm having some problems using my AirPort in Germany. I can connect just fine using an Ethernet cable direct from the modem (NETGEAR DG632B) but when I have plug the Ethernet cable into the AirPort I can't connect. I beleive it has to do with PPoE settings, which I am not really familiar with.
There are three spots I can enter my account info. 1, on the modem itself via Safari; 2, on the AirPort via AirPort Admin Utility; 3, on the Mac via Network Preferences. I have input my PPoE username/password into the modem while directly connected. I would tend to think that this shoudl be it and that everywhere on the LAN side of the modem would be able to utilize that account. The NETGEAR settings page shows the ADSL port Network Type as PPPOE and the LAN port as DHCP, so I have attempted to set up my AirPort and Network prefs using DHCP. That leads to "You are not connected to the Internet. Safari can’t open the page “http://www.google.com/” because your computer isn’t connected to the Internet." Network Diagnostics shows green at AirPort, AirPort Settings, Network Settings and ISP. It initially shows yellow at Internet and Server which lead to "Failed" on both. Network Diagnostics then asks me to choose my network port configuration (Built-in Ethernet, Internal Modem, Airport,Other). I select AirPort and select my AirPort network. Then all the Status lights except for AirPort turn red and asks if I use a DSL or cable model. I select yes, it asks me to restart the device, I do, it asks if I can restart any other devices, I select no. At that point Network Diagnostics says it is unable to connect to the Internet.
I have down-graded to Airport Firmware v5.5.1 as some have advised. No change. I'm running MacOS 10.4.6
My AirPort is just fine as I can use it to set up a LAN with no problem. I even pulled out my old Graphite base station and tried it. Same thing.
I have tried putting my PPPoE account info into my AirPort, my Network prefs both individually and both at the same time. Nothing. Is there something that I'm missing?

You'll need to connect your modem to your AEBS WAN port, configure your AEBS with the Airport Admin Utility, setting up the PPOE to properly log into your modem connection.
You should set up your mac to us DHCP (not PPOE).
THis should allow you to use either the ethernet port or wireless from your AEBS.
    I hope this helps!

  • Cannot connect via sqlplus as sysdba

    Hi,
I have Oracle 10g setup on Redhat Enterprise v4. I was able to do everything I needed until I rebooted. Now I can't connect using sqlplus. I get error ora-01031 when I type "connect system/*** AS SYSDBA" Anyone know what why this is happening?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Adam

According to me this should be dba, why its showing the group as oracle?I'm not sure why it's showing up as oracle. Do I need to change this? As far as I can tell, oracle is a group that no user is a member of.
Did you ever able make connection using / as sysdba? On this computer, I don't think I ever logged in as sysdba other than just as a system user.
What group did you specify while installing the software?groupadd oinstall
    groupadd dba
    groupadd oper
usermod -g oinstall -G dba oracle
Pretty much followed http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/10g/OracleDB10gR2InstallationOnRedHatAS4.php and the oracle docs on installation.
