Only users with admin privileges can connect to shares

i have set up a 10.6.4 server but only admin users can see the shares.
other users can connect but no shares appear. (their connection appears in the log and on 10.3.9 you get a blank list of shares available)
i do have the users set via POSIX as the group owner (all users are in the assigned group).
i have propogated the permissions as well.
i did alter the access pane to make it so all could use AFP.
i tried making it restricted and adding all groups and users to no avail.
i feel it's something pretty silly i'm missing.
any advice would be appreciated.

Two possibilities spring to mind -
1. The Service security settings may not allow users to connect, look in Server Admin, click on the Access icon at the top, check the security settings for the AFP service.
2. ACLs (Access Control Lists) override the POSIX security settings, and Leopard and Snow Leopard much prefer using ACLs (Tiger like POSIX better). If no ACLs are defined for a directory then the POSIX permissions apply.

  • User with admin rights can't access files through the command prompt

I have a strange situation where I have 2 users both setup exactly the same with admin rights on a 2003 (32 bit) server through an AD group membership, but one can do everything as expected but the other can't.
The one that can't is trying to execute a program is a command prompt and keeps getting access denied or invalid directory when trying to cd into the folder.   I double and tripled check the permissions and they are correct, this person should have
full admin.  In fact I did a effective permissions through explorer and it states full rights.  Along those lines this person can also access the folder in question through explorer just not a command prompt.
Has anyone seen this before ? and if so what can be done about it.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Can the user execute the program through explorer? In Windows Server 2003, the Users group does not have Read and Execute permissions to the command processor (Cmd.exe).
You could refer to the article below to resolve the issue:

  • ITunes 10.6.3.25 only opens with admin privileges

A few days ago I tried to open iTunes, but for some reason it didn't. There was no error displyed nor anything shown. I've searched the web but I didn't find any solution. The only way I found to open it is by giving it admin privileges. I also tried unistalling every Apple program I have, but there's no solution.
I'm running Windows 7 32-bit (that is up to date) and iTunes 10.6.3.25 (I guess it's up to date).
    What's wrong?

    That is troubling!
I downloaded the Kindle app on my iPad1 tonight, logged into my Amazon.com account and was able to download the books I had bought on my Kindle to my iPad!  I am a VERY HAPPY CAMPER!

  • New user with sysdba privilege gets connected as user sys

    hi ,
I am using oracle 10g R2 . I have a user named test . I have provided sysdba privilege to this user . Now , when I login to this user as conn tkcsowner/password
it gets connected , I created a table in that , the table data is fine . But, when I login as conn tkcsowner/password as sysdba , it connects , if I execute show user it shows "user is sys" , and the table is not here .
    My question is ............
    1. if I login to tkcsowner as sysdba , where do I login actually , to sys account or to tkcsowner ?
    2. I want to execute some stored procedures through tkcsowner , which requires sysdba privilege . But , how can I can execute those from tkcsowner , but not from sys ?
Any additional info on this would be appreciated . thank you.

    My question is ............
    1. if I login to tkcsowner as sysdba , where do I login actually , to sys account or to tkcsowner ?Yes, teh correct behavior. If you would use the o/s authentication, you would be connected as Sys user since Oralce would bypass the supplied username and password of yours over the prompt.
    2. I want to execute some stored procedures through tkcsowner , which requires sysdba privilege . But , how can I can execute those from tkcsowner , but not from sys ?When you are going to connect with Sysdba role, you would be connected as Sys user. I am not sure what you exactly mean by saying that the procedure requires the Sysdba privilege? Procedure doesn't need any Sysdba privilege( there isn't such thing since its a role not a privilege) but the provilege of Execute on that procedure . So you do want to check it out what you are actually looking for and why?

  • User requires ADMIN privilege to perform this operation.

    Hi
I have written a procedure which creates a new workspace. The owner of the package has been granted apex_administrator_role. This works fine with SQL Developer/Plus.
But when I try to use this procedure from my Apex page I get User requires ADMIN privilege to perform this operation.
I understand that Apex makes a connection with APEX_PUBLIC_USER, and this can be one of the reasons of the error. But I would like to know if there is some solution:
    My code is:
          apex_instance_admin.add_workspace (
            p_workspace          => p_name,
            p_primary_schema     => p_name,
            p_additional_schemas => '');
--p_name is passed as a parameter and workspace and primary_schema name are the sameHabib

I think you will need to grant privleges to apex_instance_admin directly to the owner of the package.
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E14072_01/network.112/e10574/authorization.htm#BABFJEGJ
The privileges of the procedure's definer must be granted directly to the user, not granted through roles.

  • How to add user with admin priviledges to  multiple machines

    Hi all,
I would like to be able to create a local ARD user on each machine on the network, with admin privileges on the machine. Is this possible?
The custom client installer seems to only allow adding standard users. Is there away I can create a Unix command that I could send to each machine, to add an administrator user? Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

Since machines ship with ARD 2 already installed, rather than go through the hassle of creating a Client package and having to edit that, you can simply run a shell script to take care of everything.
We utilze a BASH script to create the ARD user, set the password of the user, hide it in the login window, add the user to the sudoers file (just to make sure the user can sudo), and add the path to kickstart to the PATH variable in the default .profile (/etc/profile) so that you can use kickstart without having to type the entire path.
    Script follows:
    #!/bin/bash
    # add kickstart to path
    echo "PATH="\"/bin:/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin:/System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManag ement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/Resources:/Developer/Tools"\"" >> /etc/profile
    export path
    # add ARD user
    niutil -create . /users/arduser
    niutil -createprop . /users/arduser gid 499
    niutil -createprop . /users/arduser uid 499
    niutil -createprop . /users/arduser shell /bin/bash
    niutil -createprop . /users/arduser home /private/var
niutil -createprop . /users/arduser realname ard
    niutil -createprop . /users/arduser shadowpasswd
niutil -appendprop . /groups/admin users arduser
    # now set the passwd for the ard user
    dscl . -passwd /Users/arduser ardpass
    # now add to the sudoers file
    echo "arduser ALL=(ALL) ALL" >> /etc/sudoers
    # now hide the ARD user from the loginwindow process
    mkdir /var/temp/
    cp /Library/Preferences/com.apple.loginwindow.plist /var/temp/com.apple.loginwindow.bak
defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.loginwindow HiddenUsersList -array-add arduser
/System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/Resources/ki ckstart -configure -users arduser -access -on -privs -all
    exit 0
Just copy that into a text file, chmod it to 755 and you can then run it on the machine. We will put it at the root of the hard drive, run it, and then remove it. If you want the script to delete itself, just put the following before "exit 0":
    rm $0
    That will delete the file.
    Hope that helps out.

  • Automatic Adobe Update for users without admin privileges

    Hi there,
I have a PC with Windows 7 Professional (32bits) and Adobe Reader (9.4.6)
I have selected "Automatically install updates" in Preferences --> Updater:
The problem is: when a normal user (without admin privileges) is using the system, it turns up an Adobe Box which asks the user to install the Update:
But when the user tries to update, it asks to insert the admin password.
How can I solve this? I would like Adobe Reader updates to be downloaded and automatically installed for users in my PC without admin privileges. Is this possible?
    Thanks in advance.
    Best regards,
    Pablo

Anyone have any further insight into this?  Is there a way to simply give the user admin creds but only for Adobe Reader that would permit users to do thier own updates?
I don't want to have to constantly update the MSI I am deploying with GP/LUP if possible.
I am, however simply looking to update 11.0.0 to 11.0.1 ,11.0.2....etc without having to touch GP/LUP/each end user machine

  • Flash Player Administration - upgrade users without admin privileges

Is this possible? How have you answered this painfully obvious problem in your enterprise?
We have a remote Sales Force which do not connect to our domain. I looked through the Admin Guide - I do not want to disable the auto-update. I want to make the auto-update work for users without admin privileges.

Currently, the user does need to be an admin account for an update to occur.  However, the good news is that this will change in 11.2.  Once 11.2 is installed on Windows (using an admin account), there won't need to be further user interaction for future updates.  Users on limited accounts will be updated silently, without admin interaction.

  • Proxy user with limited privileges

    Hi Expert,
Wanted to know if there is any way to restrict proxy user with certain privileges.
For an example, If i'm logging in as fnadvi[scott]/password....in this certain circumstances, fnadvi would override all the privileges from SCOTT user.

  • Create user with dba privileges

How do I create a user with DBA privileges in Oracle? The user should be able to create, insert, delete, truncate and other functions without any limits. Do I have to issue GRANT statements?

    Hi,
I don't believe there's any way to create a user and grant privileges in one command.
    First, create the user:
CREATE USER  foo  IDENTIFIED BY  bar; Then grant the privileges. There's a pre-defined role called DBA that has all the privileges you mentioned.
GRANT  dba  TO  foo; It's easy to write a script to do these two commands together, so you could say
    @CREATE_USER  foo  bar  dba

    OS: Windows 7 64 bit
I usually start Firefox from a toolbar (PowerPro) which runs with admin privileges. Thus Firefox starts with admin privileges too. Under this condition links in Outlook won't open in Firefox.
But if I start Firefox with normal privileges the links in Outlook works as expected.

Under Tools > Options > Advanced look to see if the "check if Firefox is default browser on startup" Check this and then restart FF. If it isn't the default it should ask if you want to make it the default. Choose yes and it should open when clicking links again.

  • How many users from an application can connect to a SQL server at a time?

    HI,
I need to know , How many users from an application can connect to a SQL server at a time? Do we have any settings for this in SQL server for limiting the users?

This is a difficult question, since it is both technical and legal.
The absolute maximum number of connections is around 32700, but unless your server is very beefy, it will choke long before that. A connection is not a user - an application can have many connections for the same user. Depending on your license
model, you may be legally limited to a certain number of users, but this number is not enforced technially.

  • Using an NT user with DBA privileges does not permit to create schema : why ?

    Hi,
I use an Oracle 8 on an Windows NT server.
I have two NT users with DBA privileges.
But, when I use the migration workbench to create the oracle schema, my users are not granted.
    Why ?
    Regards.
    Pascal

    Please clarify your problem.
The workbench creates users (which are visible in the oracle model within the tool) with the password oracle .
I am not sure if you are asking about accessing the database using your OS user identity, or have you found that the users exist but do not have dba privileges.
