OPC failed

i have some 4x dvd-r media lying around, and needed to burn a dvd...i tried the 'auto' writing speed option in k3b and it says "opc failed please try writing speed 1x"...so anyway it burns properly at 1x at 2x....but i dont see a 4x option available...please help!

update: by clicking the tiny refresh icon i managed to get k3b to display 4x as an option...but when i actually choose 4x, i get the same OPC error...i presume OPC is optimum power calibration...

  • Dsc opc shared variables yields Server Failure

I've been struggling with the transition from DSC 7.1 to 8+ ever since the release of version 8. I use the Allen Bradley OPC server supplied with the DSC module (Industrial Automation OPC Servers v 5.1) to communicate with a PLC 5/30 via Ethernet, or at least I did when I was using 7.1.
Prior to today I always failed to get the shared variables that were bound to addresses in the OPC server to deploy, usually getting an error number that started with -19. However today I finally got it to deploy by keeping the I/O server and the shared variables in separate libraries within my project. Now that they deploy I find that I am unable to monitor them. I keep getting a Server Failure. I have browsed the forums here heavily, and the documentation all relates to remote OPC, which is not what I'm doing here (OPC client and server are on the same machine). I tried changing the login account for the Variable Engine service anyway, but that doesn't help, so I put it back.
I have had some luck simply binding my front panel objects to the OPC server addresses using Datasockets, so it appears that my OPC server is working. However, Datasockets is not a viable option for me because there are times when my project needs to write to a large number of addresses in the PLC sequentially, which never works over datasockets (in my experience).
We have continued to work in version 7.1 because of the challenges of moving to 8+, but since we can no longer purchase DSC runtime licenses for version 7.1 in order to deploy, it seems that we MUST move forward to 8+ or abandon LabVIEW altogether (which is certainly an option).
For clarification, I am now working with version 8.2 (but I've been fighting with it since 8.0 without much success). If anybody out there can think of a critical step that I might have missed that might cause this, or if there is a known solution, I could really use (and would greatly appreciate) the help. Thanks!

Nobody out there seems to have any answers for this, so I kept pounding on it (and pulling my hair out). In the end I finally succeeded in getting one of my old 7.1 DSC projects to run on 8.2. Here's what I did:
    1. I begin with a fresh installation of Windows. I tested it with both 2000 and XP Pro. Vista RC1 will absolutely NOT work!
    2. Install LabVIEW 8.2, DSC 8.2, and just the OPC server that I need from the IA OPC CD (in my case the Allen Bradley server)
    3. Open the IA OPC server editor, and create a new file with an object in it for my PLC (PLC 5/30, Ethernet in my case)
    4. Save, set it as the startup file
    5. Run LabVIEW, create an empty project
    6. Add an IO server
    7. Launch Multi Variable Editor, load project file created in step 6, and bind one variable to PLC address
    8. Save all. Uncheck auto deploy for the library, and deploy all.
    9. Launch variable monitor, browse to new variable, double click to monitor.
    10. This will ALWAYS fail with "server failure". Don't worry, just exit completely out of LabVIEW.
    11. Stop the Variable Engine service.
    12. Run OPC server editor again, and load up the lpd file from your old project. Modify if needed, save, and set as startup
    13. Start the Variable Engine service again.
    14. Launch LabVIEW
    15. Create a new empty project (I created mine in the same directory as my old 7.1 project resided)
    16. Add an IO server, and uncheck auto deploy for its library
    17. Save all
    18. Run Tools->DSC->Migrate->import scf
    19. Convert your old SCF file
    20. Add the new library to your project (it will be named LabVIEW)
    21. Uncheck auto deploy for the "LabVIEW" library you just added
    22. Right click on the "LabVIEW" library and do deploy all
    23. Save, and open the variable monitor
    24. Browse to a tag in the LabVIEW library, and double click
    25. This time it will actually monitor the variable, with a status of "Good"
    26. Now you can add your main front panel VI to your project, open it and run it
    27. Version 8.2 will select the proper legacy tag read/write VI's, whereas 8.0 does not. The writes however do not work. Replace them with shared variable writes. The reads work fine.
    28. The empty project that you created in step 5 is a throw away. It will never work anyway.
    29. So far the only variables that I can get to work at all are the ones that I import from an scf file, which is a pain, but if I must create all my tags in 7.1 and import them into 8.2 I will (for now). I may try exporting to Excel and copying variables that work in order to get functional new variables, since binding them in the editor does not work.
I hope this helps anybody else out there struggling with moving to 8+ DSC. I saw a few posts with similar issues, but without ANY answers at all. It's a convoluted solution that doesn't make a lot of sense, but for me it is repeatable.

  • Printing fails, gs crashes

In my workplace I have two printers a Ricoh Aficio and a HP Color LaserJet 5550 and they are running via a remote CUPS server. However I can browse their cups page via the remote cups web interface.
I downloaded the suggested drivers hplip and openprinting-ppds-pxlmono-ricoh, in cups as connection I use the webaddress http://cupsserver/printername and I select the correct driver.
However, each time I try to print I get filter failed on both printers.
In the /var log file are lines like:
    D [05/Mar/2015:17:07:21 +0100] [Job 9] Running command line for gs: gs -q -dNOPAUSE -dBATCH -dSAFER -sDEVICE=ps2write -sOUTPUTFILE=%stdout -dLanguageLevel=3 -r600 -dCompressFonts=false -dNoT3CCITT -dNOINTERPOLATE -c 'save pop' -f /var/spool/cups/tmp/foomatic-uP3YzG

    D [05/Mar/2015:17:07:21 +0100] [Job 9] PID 30675 (pstops) stopped with status 1!
so it seems that ghostscript crashes with a segfault.
I used this printers with another arch machine, I do not actually remember the precise settings. But I guess a gs crash should not happen...
    What can I try?

    Hi,
the same here. I'm using Xerox machine so it's not printer dependent.
I had this printer working in the past but now it doesn't work with very similar error as you have.

  • Reading arrays of double from S7 with OPC & Datasocket

    Hi friends:
We are developing an application with a S7-315-2DP PLC and a PC with a PCI1500PFB. We use the OPC server from Applicom. We read the data very quickly with the datasocket (arrays of boolean, arrays of doubles ...and so on, and a very big amount of data over 100 ms) but when we try to write arrays datasocket faield and we have to write item on item and the speed decrease. For intance, if we try to write doubles ( 50 items) the refresh period is over 5 seconds ( some times more since we launch the data and we read the same data on the PC). Perhaps we failed configuring the OPC but there isn´t many things to configure, perhaps the problem is the board configuration .. I don´t know.
    We
try to find some examples that write an array of doubles on one time but..
    Thank you for yours answers.
    Javi

    Hi Javi,
I'm not aware of any known issues writing to the Applicom OPC server. In LabVIEW there isn't anything special you need to configure to be able to write arrays of doubles through DataSocket. You can test this by using the DataSocket Server Manager, make a new member that is an array of doubles, and try reading and writing to that member. You may also want to check to make sure the data member the OPC server is expecting is an arry of doubles and not an array of singles or integers.

  • Canon MF5950dw throwing Stopped - 'filter' failed printer error

We just bought a Canon MF5950dw printer, and on a MBA running 10.8.2 when we try to print anything over the network, it'll stop with the error: Stopped - 'filter' failed.
    I've:
repairing permissions from the rescue disk
tried deleting and re-adding the printer
    uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers
    reset the CUPS printing system
and nothing has helped. The MBA has no problem printing to our old printers. It works fine on the my MBP running 10.8.2 and our Windows 7 machines. It persists whether I set it up as a Bonjour printer or an IP printer.
Anyone know how to fix this? thanks!

  • PCO 2.2 - OPC and IP21

    Hi,
We are looking at connecting to IP21 via PCO OPC DA connector.
Can PCo only poll the IP21 OPC server for eventing or can one set up the IP21 OPC server to advise PCO on data changes for
      eventing purposes ?
Also what is required on the server where PCo is installed to enable OPC connectivity, for browsing the IP21 we have established that you need the following dlls in the PCo system directory :
    cimsrvapi.dll
    CimWin32Util.dll
    infoplus21_api.dll
    ip21admin_client.dll
    ip21ezrpcw32.dll
    ip21winrpc32.dll
    libc21.dll
PCo is running on Windows server 2008 R2 and the IP21 is not on the same box.
    thanks

    Hi ,
I got it working to be able to get the notification working. Although one still cannot browse the IP21 tags, and all tags are still shown as a name space.
    a. I installed the Matricon IP21 OPC server on the same box as IP21 Historian.
    b. I connected to the IP21 server and configured new aliases in the Matricon IP21 OPC server to look at the IP21 tags
    c. I then configured PCo OPC DA agent to look at the Matricon IP21 OPC server and got the subscriptions to work, and PCo can browse the MAtricon IP21 OPC server tags that I configured , so the browsing seems to work via this OPC server
    d. Then I tried to fire up the OPC DA agent in PCo that I previously configured to look at the Aspentech IP21 OPC server, and the configuration now started to work (still can't browse the tags)
    e. I uninstalled the Matricon IP21 OPC server and the configuration in step d. still worked.
So the conclusion is that the Matricon IP21 OPC server did some sort of a configuration that made the orginal configuration functional, this however now leaves me the question of what did this driver do to get things working.
Now I sit with a new challenge I have PCo installed on a seperate server and in a different domain as the IP21 OPC server.
    What I have so far
    1. The Same local user on both the PCo box and the IP21 OPC server with Admin rights
    2. I can see the IP21 OPC server from the PCo box and access it
But the issue is as soon as I fire up the Agent to run  it fails to start with the following error:
ConnectivityAgentProxy|"The requested Performance Counter is not a custom counter, it has to be initialized as ReadOnly.

i am going to use ni hypertren with labview dsc 8.6 version. i am not using shared variable here but using opc server + data socket i am reading all the channels of data. currently i am reading 300 channels of data over modbus tcp/ip network. all are thermocouple inputs and each module has an 8 channels of array of data which i defined, i tried using shared variable but here i need to create 300 variable for each channel then only i can able to insert these data values to the data base. but using data socket with opc server i can able to group it 8 channels/ module the i can able readuce my data set also it will be traceble one. to inserting data base i am making programming.
i checked the ni-hypertrend, i gone through the help, my question is can i plot the datas from opc data socket with out using shared variable...?
    Regards,
    Balaji DP

    SOLVED
I just installed the runtime and copied the exe to the target. That doesn't work.
After I build a distribution with NI DataSocket component and installing it the copied OpcClient works. Even after uninstalling said distribution...

    Dear experts,

As the other applications like OPC Scout are able to connect to the DCOM (at least this is my understanding) in order to query the OCP Server, it seems to me that there is a Plant Connectivity problem. I tried to find out where the settings ConnectivityAgentProxy are detailed - I thought something like an .ini, .xml file - but unfortunately I did not find anything. Do you have any suggestion, advice?
    Thanks in advance,
    Florin
Before I start with installing image of the PC with the image before doing the network id name change i would like to ask you if there is any setting, configuration file

Do you have a named user entered for the Agent Instance Service User name/password?  If so, you may have to delete and re-enter the name\password to reset this.  If you are using DCOM over a workgroup, the same workgroup user name/password must be set up on both the PCo server and the OPC Server PC's.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to specify Attribute ID in OPC Server DevicenetExplicit

I'm trying to set up an Allen Bradley 842D Devicenet Absolute Encoder
using the OPC server.  The manuals for the device mention that the
data can be retrieved from the various Attribute ID's in each
class.  From the OPC Server Help example below,  it starts to
describe the location of the data desired,  but fails to show me
where I specify the attribute ID.  For example, lets say in the
example below,  I now want Attribute 2 or 3.  How does the
    below example tell me how?.
Since I'm trying to get all this data in via the IA OPC server,
I'm not planning on using the DNET Vi's.  BUT.....I did look at
the "GetIdentityAttrs.vi" and notice that the VI's provided allow for
Class ID, Instance ID, and Attribute ID.  All of which correctly
gives me the information I want when I run this VI with the 842D
    encoder.
    From OPC Server Online Help:
    NIDeviceNetExplicit Example
Suppose you want to get attribute 1 from Class ID 1, Instance 3 of an
object. Class ID 1 is the Identity Class, where all the identification
information for the device is contained.
Enter the background information when you create the
NIDeviceNetExplicit object, setting the Service Code to 14 and the
Class ID to 1. From the manufacturer’s documentation, you know that
GetAttribute only accepts an unsigned integer (USINT) as a parameter.
The baud rate for the object in question is an 8-bit unsigned integer
(USINT). To read the baud rate, access the IID3.USINT0 data member.
From the Above,  this is what how i'm interpreting the configuration:  IID ( Instance ID).USINT (data offset)
To re-iterate my question:  How do I specify the Attribute ID when using the IA OPC Server DeviceNetExplicit Object?
    Regis

    Hi Regis,
The general steps to send & receive the explicit message using the NI OPC Server:
Configure an OPC item to write the explicit message, you have to set the attribute ID for the GET request message here.
Configure an OPC item to read the explicit message, you will get the explicit response from it.
    Example: Read the Vendor ID (ClassID=1, InstanceID=1, AttributeID=1, DataType=UINT)
    (1) Configure the NIDeviceNetExp object with the right MAC ID, ServiceCode=14(GET), ClassID=1
    (2) Add an OPC item (Data Member) NIDeviceNetExp1.IID1.USINT0 to write the parameter.
    (3) Add an OPC item (Data Member) NIDeviceNetExp1.IID1.UINT0 to read the Vendor ID.
    (4) Then you get the alarm message in IA OPC server and get failure message in your OPC client , if you have one started allready, because it reads the item automatically.
The magic action is here: you write the value 1 to NIDeviceNetExp1.IID1.USINT0. (then the attribute ID 1 is set correctly).
You can get the vendor ID then reading NIDeviceNetExp1.IID1.UINT0.
    2. Example: If you want to get the Serial Number (ClassID=1, InstanceID=1, AttributeID=6, DataType=UDINT)
    Add an OPC item NIDeviceNetExp1.IID1.UDINT0
You write the value 6 to NIDeviceNetExp1.IID1.USINT0
You can get the Serial Number in NIDeviceNetExp1.IID1.UDINT0
    So you can conclude that:
    (1) if you write to NIDeviceNetExp1.IID1.USINT0, USINT is the data type used to encode the request message parameter.
    (2) if you read from NIDeviceNetExp1.IID1.UDINT0, UDINT is the data type used to decode the response message.
Attached you can find an example using LV and  Datasocket to read the Vendor ID.
Hope that helps with your problem.

  • OPC/DSC/Kepware Server

When I attempt to deploy my application, I receive "Deployment failed: The client process cannot communicate with the configuration server process....."
I have DSC Run Time module on the target machine and I can read the OPC tags on the Kepware Quick Client so I narrowed it down to something to do with LV.  I've read about the "identity of interactive user" and I do have that checked in the DCOM for the client server.
Thanks in advance for the help/ideas.

Daniel, here is the error message I receive.
The OPC server is located on 192.168.1.10 so it is the same subnet

  • Dsc:| |-QueryInterface IID_IOPCBrowse: (FAILED, HRESULT=0x80004002 No such interface supported )

Hi, I'm moving my application from LV/DSC 8.5 to 8.6.1 and I'm getting the following problem.
I created an OPC Client I/O server to connect to the Eldridge Engineering Inc. Modbus - OPC server (http://www.opcsystems.com/modbus.htm). This server is DA 2.5 and supports Hierarchical browsing.  Looking to the client loggin file I found the following error:
    | |-QueryInterface IID_IOPCBrowse: (FAILED, HRESULT=0x80004002 No such interface supported )
Apparently the client / server behaves properly when I read (by the "Distributed System Manager" tool) few items at time, but the client is disconnected when I ask to read few tens of items in one shot. There is no way to reconnect it, only way is to undeplpoy the client and deploy it again.  I don't know if the two problems are related each other.
Any help is really welcome :-)
    cheers
    gaetano maron

    Hi Gaetano,
error 80004002 may require that you re-register the OPC server. See the following document for details:
Errors Connecting to OPC Server When Using DataSocket as an OPC Client in LabVIEW
Tools for Troubleshooting OPC Interface Problems
Furthermore, I have a couple of questions:
Do you have both LV 8.5 and 8.6.1 installed on the same machine? Or they run on different PCs?
I've browsed to the URL you forwarded http://www.opcsystems.com/modbus.htm It seems that Eldridge server also has a Modbus interface for communicating between applications.  As a possible workaround, have you tried to use a Modbus I/O server for interfacing with Eldridge SW? Here there are some tips about how doing this:
Using Modbus I/O Servers (DSC and RT Modules)
Troubleshooting Modbus I/O Servers (DSC Module)
Introduction to Modbus (see chapter "MODBUS I/O servers")
    Hope this helps,

  • OPC Connection faliure/status using LabView & Protool

    Hi there,
we are integrating NI Vision solution into Siemens Step7/Protool automation environment. Two CVS modules perform visual inspection and communicate via Ethernet with Siemens Protool vizualization/GUI application running on Windows XP based PC. Protool is serving as OPC 2.0 compliat server and LabView "helper" application on PC is mirroring OPC data to and from NI PSP (Shared variable) domain which NI CVS-es use to communicate. All works well until we shut down and/or restart Protool (and thus the OPC service along with it).
Helper application fails to acknowledge any Connection Status change (as its status remains: Connected) if/when OPC is turned off ... furthermore once the Protool OPC is up and running again the values in LabView OPC bound items within helper app. cease to be updated although their Connection Status Property is shown as: Connected throughout ...
Has anyone had a similar problem? What could be the cause/solution to the behavior described?
    Thanks in advance,
    Robert

    Hi Mike,
LabView "helper" app. is residing on Win PC and has controls that are data-bound to ProTool OPC via datasocket. The PC hosts shared variables that CVS-es use to communicate to PC. helper app. is transfering data between ProTool OPC and NI PSP network as necessary. If OPC is "power cycled" the "datasocket LED" of OPC DataBound controls remains green as nothing happened! If we use DataSocket (DS) pallete to programatically open DS conneciton to an OPC item, connection is rejected if OPC is not running, but once connected the "connection:status" property wont change if we shutdown the OPC!
Why is this happening? Is there a manner to detect the "running" status op OPC? Is there a more elegant way to bring OPC and NI PSP network together that would bypass the need for data pooling? Would the functionality of DSC help, like "register for events notification" function?
We would sure could use a quick soultion to this ...
    Thx and regards, Robert

  • Error -2147467259, can't add item to OPC Server

I am using a DataSocket connection to read/write through an OPC Server (GE SRTP) to PLC software (PME).  Everything works fine on my 2 different development PC's in my office, both in .vi form, and executable.  I have distributed my executable on our network, and 2 of the 4 PC's we use to test product work fine.  The other 2 PC's have the same problem, error -2147467259, can't add item to OPC server.  When the OPC Server is called by LabVIEW, it launches successfully, but immediatly shows the 'can't add item to OPC Server'.  I believe that it has to do with the registry.  I registered the opcproxy.dll, and it still fails.  LabVIEW 7.1, Windows XP machines.
    Thanks, Alan

I would like to echo Sam's inquiry about launching the OPC server outside of LabVIEW and verifying that it can be connected to.  Also, under what user name is the OPC server being launched?  Sometimes you can run into trouble if the user name is not the current user logged onto the system, but I haven't heard of it causing this error.  You can see what user launched the service under Control Panel >> Administrative Tools >> Services.  You can verify the default user running the application by going to Control Panel >> Administrative Tools >> Component Services and navigating to Component Services >> Computers >> My Computer >> DCOM Config  Right click on your DCOM server and select Properties.  Then go to the Identity tab and make sure The Interactive User is selected.

  • Opc server runtime timeout

Hi, so I can't use OPC server because the connection that it tries to do always fails and I get an timeout. What am I missing? In my own computer OPC server doesn't do that. I don't even know what that runtime thing does but I figured it needs to be working before I can get to launch the Quick Client... Do I need to install something or what, can someone help me?

If you mean NI OPC Server, it is a trial.
If you mean can Lookout act as an OPC server, it is full.
