Open file(including external file) problem on Lion

I have a problem with AppleScript on Lion (OS 10.7) and cannot know what to do...
I'd like to open an alias file which has some external files. (For example, adobe illustrator's .ai file with some .png or Logic Pro file with audio files) But I cannot do it, it was working perfectoly on Mac OS 10.6. It seems file system had changed on Lion....??
Opening normal file on Lion >> it works.
tell application "Finder"
  activate
open file "test.rtf" of folder "scriptTest" of folder "Desktop" of home
end tell
Opening an alias of normal file on Lion >> it works.
tell application "Finder"
  activate
open file "testAlias" of folder "scriptTest" of folder "Desktop" of home
end tell
Opening an file with external files on Lion >> it works.
tell application "Finder"
  activate
open file "testWithImagefiles.ai" of folder "scriptTest" of folder "Desktop" of home
end tell
Opening an alias file with external files >> it works on 10.6 but NOT on Lion, just open the window ...
tell application "Finder"
  activate
open file "testWithImagefiles.ai" of folder "scriptTest" of folder "Desktop" of home
end tell
Is there any idea?

I'm not sure what the problem here is - your statement that it "just opens the window" doesn't mean much.  opens what window?  a FInder window? an new illustrator window? a window in your living room? (the last would be very cool, mind you...)
at any rate, I think the problem is in some confusion over the word 'alias'.  In applescript, alias just means any file system referent: e.g. alias "HD:Users:yourname" is a path specification for your home folder.  file system objects that point to other file system objects are referred to as alias files.  so try one of these two versions instead:
  -- using alias file directly
open alias file "testWithImagefilesAlias" of folder "scriptTest" of folder "Desktop" of home
  -- resolving alias file first
open original item of (alias file "testWithImagefilesAlias" of folder "scriptTest" of folder "Desktop" of home)

  • Viewing/disconnecting open file connections on Lion Server?

Has anyone found a way to view open file connections on Lion Server? With 10.6 Server Admin, you can view/disconnect open connections by protocol.  I haven't been able to locate a way to do this in the new Server app or new version of Server Admin.

    Hi kevinfromhunt,
    Try sudo launchctl unload /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.AppleFileServer.plist
    sudo serveradmin start afp
Suppose it would work with other services as well.
It worked for FileSharing for me.
It appears that 10.7 Lion doesn't unload properly and as it fails loading it cause it's already loaded it fails.
    Good luck.

  • Error opening file problem

Hello.  I am trying to get my first podcast going.  I am using Podbean and itunes.  I had everything up and running but didn't have the image on it I had created.  So, with the help of the forum, I went through Podbean and got it done...and the image shows up on itunes now.
BUT, now the podcast wont play (it did previously in both itunes and Podbean).  It wont play on itunes and when I go to Podbean to play it says "error opening file."
Can anybody tell me what I can do to get it back?  Or redo it?  Thx!

The URL given for the media file for your episode is

There is no file at this address. These redirects are always a dodgy idea: iTunes is complaining that it can't find a file at the first URL, so the redirection may not be working for it even if there was a file at the second address. It's preferable to give it a direct URL to the file: but in any event you need to go looking for it as it's not where it should be.

  • To Many Open Files Problem

I am running jdk 1.2.2 on Solaris 2.8. I have a java server running and after it recieves about 10 transaction it thorws
    java.net.SocketException: Too many open files
How can I tell how many files I have open?
Can I see what files it thinks are open?
    Can I tune this parameter?
    Thanks
    Brian

    Hi Brian,
Not sure how you would do this under Solaris, but I had a similar issue
    under Linux.
Yes- you can set the parameter. You have to be root in order to change
it at runtime (in your current bash session). The other solution
(I think) is to recompile the kernel.
"ulimit" is the command you are looking for.
I then execute something like this as root:
    ======
    #!/bin/sh
    ulimit -n 8096
    su myuser -c ./startup

  • Open file problem

I have attach a vi that open .lvm file whenever i pressed the open button. The problem is when i try to reopen while still in the while loop, it can't open a new file and blank the graph. What is my problem of my VI? Thanks.

(I have not investigated why it acts as observed, but there is an easy solution.)
A workaround would be to just prepend a file dialog and uncheck "Ask User to choose file" in the express panel (See attached VI).
Btw, you should really put a wait in that loop, your loop runs at maximum speed, gobbling up all CPU. Alternatively, an event structure seems more appropriate as in my suggestion.

  • Can Photoshop CS6 automatically reopen previously open files on Mountain Lion?

Mac OS X 10.8 introduced a new behavior - apps could automatically open the documents that were open in the last app execution.
Can Photoshop CS6 be configured to behave this way?

    David,
How about Chrome, bbedit (even back to version 9.1.1), PixelMator, others, none of which are 'Apple Apps'.
The Resume and Autosave APIs have been around since 10.7 (2011).
Maybe if Adobe wasn't so busy trying to shove us all into a rental model they'd have time to consider implementing OS APIs that have existed for more than 2 years.

  • External monitor problem after Lion upgrade

    Hi,
I have a 20" iMac which has a screen resolution of 1680x1050(ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro 256 MB).  I have been using an additional 168x1050 monitor(Dell 2009W) in dual screen mode.  This was working fine with Leopard, Snow Leopard, but it does not work after I upgraded to Lion.  The screen appears to look fine for a few seconds then blanks out for a second and repeats.   The only way I can use my extra monitor is by reducing the resolution to  1360x768.
Does anyone know of a fix or if apple is working on a fix.   I called apple support, but all of their suggestion (fix disk permisions, reset PRam) did not help.
    Thanks for any help.
    Paul

Similar problem here with a 15" MacBook Pro purchased in late 2009. Connected to a new Dell ST2210 21.5" display via a DVI cable and Apple's mini display port to single link dvi adapter. The cable is dual link but seems to work fine the majority of the time.
When I wake my mac from sleep 1 time out of 3 I see black and white static on my external screen that only goes away when I unplug the screen or power it up and down.
I've tested another older MacBook Pro with the screen and everything works fine and when I connect with a different dvi cable I get the same issue.
When I called Apple support, they said it was a software issue and directed me to remove some .plist files in my library. I did what they said on the phone and it seemed to work for maybe 6 sleep cycles but the issue came back again. Since then I've reset the VRAM following their directions in a support article on the subject of external display static. (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377)
Does anyone know of a way to fix this or if Apple is actually listening? VGA works fine but I hate the quality of VGA compared to DVI. Should I look into getting an mini display port to dvi adapter from someone other than Apple?
It's annoying to have purchased a perfectly Mac compatible monitor which you really need, just to discover that Apple is having trouble with their mini display port...
Here's another guy with a similar issue and the same monitor (http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/peripherals/f/3529/t/19330464.aspx#1 9691738). However, from the research I've done, his conclusion about it being the monitor seems to be false, especially with all the complaints here about similar issues regardless of display model.
I need an answer that does not include going back to VGA. What are your suggestions? I do have HDMI but would rather not shell out the money for a cable and adapter...

  • Include Unicode Signature (BOM) Always Checked When Opening Files

When I go to "File > Open..."  in the Menu, the option for  "Include Unicode Signature (BOM)" seems to be always checked by default.  Is there some way to change this behavior?  There is an option for turning it off for creating new files but not opening existing files.
And yes, I know you can also open files in the Files panel, but this question is pertaining to the Menu.
I'm using Dreamweaver CS6 on Mac Lion and any help would be much appreciated even if it requires hacking configuration files.
    Thanks.

    i had this problem,
    and i found solution
you must open folder Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Dreamweaver CS6\en_US\Configuration\DocumentTypes\NewDocuments
in this folder open file - Default.php
press Ctrl + J and uncheck unicode bom in encodings and save this file.
    ready !
when you create new file, bom will not be checked!

  • Lion Preview and Textedit very slow when opening files from Leopard Server

My small office (about 10 users) recently upgraded our iMac's, Mac Mini's, and Macbook Pro's.  We are experiencing a big problem with Preview opening super slow (1-2 minutes) when trying to open JPG's, PDF's, etc from our 10.5.8 Leopard Server.  We have deleted numerous plist files related to Preview, completely deleted Preview.app from one iMac and reinstalled it via Pacifist and still no change in performance.  One of the new iMac's does open much faster than the others, but we cannot figure out why this one machine works well and the others don't.
All machines are showing the below error (dozens of times) in Console when trying to open files directly from the server...
    sandboxd:  ([###])  Preview(###) deny system-fsctl
We have searched the internet for a solution but have not come up with anything that works.  This problem exists with Textedit as well.  We did try opening a file from one Lion machine to the other and it opened very fast.  We also can open files very quickly from older 10.4.11 Tiger machines directly from the server.  So the best we can determine right now is Lion and Leopard Server are not playing nicely together.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

"Enable Related Files" isn't the fix for this issue. It's slightly different - I wanted to still load related files, but only the ones local to the file I was editing.
The fix was to use DW's Resolve To IP Address feature. It required adding a registry value - it fixed the issue straight away

Files on an external hard drive open just like files on the internal drive - but I get the idea that you are having a problem just finding and seeing those files. Is that correct?

  • Unable to open windows database files hosted on Lion Server

I use Mac Mini as a server. With Snow Leopard Server I shared files hosted on Mac Mini and other PC computers on the network could use together Access and Quickbooks files. After upgrading to Lion Server no PC is able to open these database files. E.g. when opening MS Access file hosted on Lion server following error pops up: "too many users acessing the file". However, the Access database can be open from network PC when opening in exclusive (single user) mode. Normal multiuser mode brings error.
Is it possible to solve this Lion sharing issue?

Same problem. Just fired up a new Mini with Lion Server to replace an HP Home Server because we need more than 10 users in our church now. Got all the users set up with group permissions and home directories on the server. Unfortunately I expected Lion Server to work just like Snow Leopard Server and be able to serve up ODBC databases like Access and Quickbooks files.
Anyone heard if Apple has a solution to the "too many users" error message? It appears that Access in particular attempts to open the data file and create a locking file (ldb), but cannot get the file permissions it needs from Lion.
Sorry I have no solution for all yet.

  • Problems with opening files in correct app

    Hi guys
Recently we have switched over at my company to OSX tiger. I work for a design firm doing artwork for various clients in the retail sector. We have a bank of logos and images on file that we use, mostly Illustrator eps saved in version 10 of the application. We are having problems opening these files in the right app. It keeps defaulting to opening in Photoshop. When we change the settings in get info and apply them to all, all our photoshop eps try and open in Illustrator. This is proving a real pain especially when opening the files from Quark after double clicking on the image and pressing the edit original button. Is there any way we can tell the system to open Illustrator files in Illustrator and Photoshop files in Photoshop.
    Cheers Thom

    Hi, Thom.
You wrote: "We have a bank of logos and images on file that we use, mostly Illustrator eps saved in version 10 of the application. When we change the settings in get info and apply them to all, all our photoshop eps try and open in Illustrator."You are describing the procedure in "Mac OS X 10.4 Help: Changing the application that opens a document."
The problem is due to the fact that a given file type or extension, e.g. .eps, can be bound via "Change All" to only one application. If you bind (set the default application) all .eps to Illustrator, that's what they'll all open in.
For the situation you have, you need to bind the documents individually to the specific application. If you can gather a selection of the documents, you can use the contextual menu of the selection (Control-click or right-click the selection), hold the Option key, select "Always open with..." and select the desired application. The selected documents will open in that application and they will henceforth be bound to it until you again change the documents default application.
You can reset all the default bindings you've defined by using the Tiger-specific procedure in my "Resetting Launch Services" FAQ. Start with Step 6 since you also want to eliminate user-defined bindings.
    Good luck!

  • Just upgraded to Lion and cannot open files on my old SL partition - permissions error

I have just installed Lion on my 2008 MacPro on a new internal HD and cannot open word/text etc  files on the original Snow Leopard disc.  I get a permissions error.  I can preview the file but not open it.  When I do a get info, I can add my user and give it R&W permissions but still cannot open the file.  I have a third disc with just videos and no system and this is OK.
For information my upgrade method was as follows:
Install blank hard disc and fromat it.
Clone original HD onto new drive using CCC
         Give it a new name
Boot from the new clone and go through the lion install
Update the new system to 10.7.4
         Repair disc permissions
Through this method, I have a duplicate set of files on the Lion partition and these I have no problem opening, it is just those on the SL disc.
Any ideas as to how to fix this.  I did the duplication as I still want to be able to boot from SL for some old applications and hardware (a film scanner being one).
    Thanks
    Dave

    Softwater,
Well, I booted back into SL, and as I mentioned, I did have filesharing enabled.  So I added the whole disc as shared and re-booted back into Lion.
Still no luck. I get exactly the same permissions error and cannot open any files.  This seems crazy that from Lion I cannot open files on other bootable partitions.
I added myself as a RW permission on the disc via Get info and still cannot see the files. This is very strange behaviour.  According to get info on the disc, I have full read/write access and on the file itself.
I can see all the files on non-bootable partions.
