Open Windows folder from web link - Firefox

Hi Guys,
I'm trying to open a folder either through a link in Firefox, it doesn't open.
Link:
<a href="file://Server/Folder/" target="_blank"/>Open Directory</a>
- IE8 works fine
- FF 3.0.13 does nothing.
I've also tried the OPENDIR funtion without any luck.

If you are attempting to have this code on a page that is running from a web server, this won't work with most browsers. Are you running this page from the file system, or a web server?
The best way to handle opening a remote file or dir is to use server side scripting.

This could be a Launch Services issue. The following article describes how to manually reset Launch Services — the notes at the bottom of the article also provide information about the side effects of deleting each of the files involved:
    Resetting Launch Services
If you prefer using a cache cleaning utility instead of following the manual procedure described in the previous article, take a look at this other article for general troubleshooting and cache-cleaning procedures. Actually, you should also verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described there:
Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption
The most appropriate utility for this particular problem probably is Tiger Cache Cleaner, but you may also want to consider other utilities, such as OnyX, or Cache Out X, which are free. Whatever utility you choose, be sure to read this first:
Side effects of System cache cleaning
As an example, this is how you should proceed with OnyX:
    1. Quit all applications.
    2. Launch OnyX and enter your administrator password.
    3. Go to Maintenance > Reset and check LaunchServices database.
    4. Un-check any other pre-checked options.
    5. Click the Execute button.
    6. Restart the computer.
BTW, if you’re running Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger), as your profile indicates, it would have been more appropriate to discuss this in the Mail & Address Book - Tiger forum. If the discussion applies to both Mail 1.x and Mail 2.x, it doesn’t really matter, but it’s difficult to know that in advance.

    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste (command-V) into the text box that opens, then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
I've seen an unconfirmed report that the "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you might need to remove it as well, if applicable.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • File folder in web link

As you know, we can define URL in web link assignment block . So  user touch the web link can direct to the URL. But now the user has a new requirement. User want to put the path of share file folder in web link, but should not  work. How to map the path of share file folder into URL? or how to put the path into web link? Thanks.

    Hi Ben,
Yes, there are definitely security implications. It works ok with IE and FF if you are opening local folders. It won't work if you're trying to access files/folders from remote servers - we tried to open folders from other servers on our domains and it wouldn't do it.
You can, as you say, edit settings to get around this (and, yes please, I'd like to see what settings you're changing). You can also "log in" to the remote system using login/password parameters in the url - but, as you quickly realise, this is even less secure!
In some instances, you can get around it by changing the url slightly:
    file://localhost\c:/etc
This sometimes tricks the browser into thinking you're accessing files from the local machine. Another alternative, which we couldn't use, was to map a drive on your machine - again, this only worked sometimes.
I could not find a solution that worked in all situations. Fortunately, for us, we got our users to login to our networks remotely using F5 and this allowed access to files.
    Regards
    Andy

  • Opening pdf files from web

New to forums. Trying to open pdf files from web, and no luck, despite following Adobe trouble shooting suggestions. Using OS 10.7.5.  no flickering or messages, just a tab with a blank screen. Older documents fine, nothing changed until this week. Downloaded X1 in attempt to solve problem.

Yes i tried following your list of commands and got the same error from MyMathLab by Pearson Publishing or the other link.  I'm beginning to wonder if they are protected.
As you probably guess - I am not computer savvy.  I will take my laptop to school tomorrow and ask another student.
    Thanks for your followup.

  • How can i copy text from web link title in safari

Hi. How can i copy text to clipboard from web link title in safari in ios 7? Thank you
    Like this:
    http://photouploads.com/images/01wkw.jpg

Once you have selected text, there will be blue circular buttons on the corners. Get the ones on the end and move them in towards the text that you want to copy. The problem that you seem to be facing where you are is that this text is a hyperlink. Because of that reason, you will have a difficult time tapping on the text without activating the link. I'm not sure you will be able to do that.

  • How to open files from web links in safari

II can't figure out to get a file downloaded from a web link into numbers, pages, etc.

    Matt-
I think the App that uses the files must have its own web access to be able to download.  Perhaps another App that has web download capability can act as an intermediary using the "Open In" option.
One candidate might be GoodReader.  It has some web download and file transfer capability, and does have the Open In option.  However, it apparently must be able to read a file before you can get to the Open In option.
Another approach is to use iTunes on your computer.  With the iPad connected to the computer, run iTunes and select the iPad under DEVICES.  Click on Apps at the top of the window and scroll down to File Transfer.  If an App appears there, data files can be synced to it by selecting it and dropping the files in a folder in the right hand window.

  • How to open (popup) a windows folder from a page?

    Hi,
I´m building an application using Oracle Application Express (version 4.2). I need to open a windows folder (popup) using a button located wihtin a region (Region Type: HTML) . The configuration I used for the button item is:
    Name:
    Application: 109SCSG_oficial_Fll
    Page: 11 Ficha- Modificar Ficha
    Name: P11_OPEN_XPLORER
    Text Label/Alt: Abrir
    Attributes:
    Attributes: Image
Image: mfopen.gif (it is an picture of a little folder)
Attributtes: onClick="openFolder('P11_XPLORER');" (where P11_XPLORER is a text field filled from a oracle table with the folder´s path, e.g C:\3219)
    Action when Button is clicked:
    Action: Submit Page
    Excetute Validations: No
    Button Request: openFolder('C:\3219');
It is not opening any windows folder. I appreciate any information regards how to configure a button item in order to do this.
    Regards,
    Luis

This is illegal with in the realm of Web Pages.
The most you can hope for is putting up a "File Browse.." item type.
Now, if the files were placed where the Oracle Server can access it....
(please remember:  Servers are not allowed to 'access' client machines.)

  • Mac won't open pdfs from web links.

I am running Mac OS  v 10.5.8 and it suddenly stopped displaying PDFs that are opened via web links.  All I see is a grey screen with the file title.pdf at the top, no error message.  Has anyone experienced this or aware of a fix?  Soooooo frustrating.
    Thanks!

Alternatively, you can select any PDF file from Finder, hit Command-i, or right click on the file and select Get Info.
From there, change Open With to Safari.
Then hit the button Change All.
    And done.

  • 11-06-11 Cannot open pdf file on web in firefox after update from Acrobat today

Adobe Acrobat had an update that I installed today. Later, when attempting to open a pdf form from a website, firefox does not open the file. I verified the settings in Firefox options and it is selected to open pdf in Firefox but it doesn't work. I am on a Windows XP system with 32bit.

Apparently I was incorrect on the Cisco box, we are using something different now. We use an Extended application server attached to a Meta Call feature server. This is a known issue for them.
"We have discovered an issue that means that the format of fax PDFs generated on most versions of Metaswitch EAS is incompatible with the latest Adobe Reader (11.0.01).  This means that when your end users upgrade their Adobe Reader to 11.0.01, they will no longer be able to view faxes received from EAS in PDF format."
The same is with version 10.1.5. I uninstalled 10.1.5 and reinstalled 10.1.4 and the problem went away. No updates for us for now

  • Not able to open PDF files from Web

Sometimes reader 9.3.1 in IE on Windows 7 stops working and it is not possible to display any more PDF files from web. Reinstall helps for a while.
By looking into running programs I found the acrobroker.exe starts and immediatelly shuts down. After a while IE responds with a generic acrobat problem that asks me to shutdown acrobat reader and start it again.
Any idea what might be wrong?
    Thanks

For the settings to check, see the [[opening PDF files within Firefox]] article.

  • Adobe 9 opening pdf's from web site

We recently upgrade to Adobe 9 from 8 and have noticed a slowdown in the time it takes to download and open a pdf from a web page link. Adobe 9 shows a download to a temporary folder pop up before the pdf will open. Adobe 8 did not behave the same way and seemed to open the same link faster. Is this controlled by an Adobe preference? We are using IE 7.0 and have new pc's with plenty of memory and processor speed so I know it's not the hardware causing the problem. Or is there a setting in IE 7 that might be causing this affect with the new Adobe version. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance,
    Tommy

i would suggest a de-installation of Acrobat 9. Run Microsoft Installer Cleanup to remove any dregs left in the Registry. Disconnect computer from the web, turn off all virus and spyware protection. Then re-install.

  • Opening Internet Explorer from a link w/ applet

    Hi there,
I was wondering if anybody out there had the code for an applet that will spawn Internet Explorer application and open up a specific address.
How we want it to work. From a link open a page that will spawn Internet Explorer with the help of the applet. Is it do-able or not?
A quick response would be great.
    Thanks

Thanks but I would need the complete code.
You see I want to open a particuler page from a link, the link will call, lets say homepage.jsp, I want to include an applet in homepage.jsp that will force the page to open up in a IE window. Is that possible????
If it is what do I need to do?
    Thanks
