OpenGL 2.0 Shader Support

Hey Everyone,
Not sure if this is the right spot to write this but thought I'd start here.
My mini suffers from an intel gma 950 graphics card which does not provide hardware level support for OpenGL 2.0 Shader Support which in turn is required for various stuff and things.
I'm wondering if anyone has found a way to provide software support for this function or a workaround to get applications functioning that have this requirement.
Thanks!

I can't wait till reviews start taking it apart, I wan't to see more detail.

  • X1600 graphics and Pixel Shader support

I have a first gen 17" MacBook Pro (2.16GHz, 2GB RAM, ATI Radeon X1600 graphics) with a graphics card that's supposed to support Pixel Shader 3.0 as documented here. However, when I run this software, the features that create textures and images onto 3D surfaces don't work. My understanding is that they should work with the X1600. Can anyone shed some light on this apparent incompatibility?

try looking thru this, doc links & there is a compatability matrix of features. pretty extensive look at OpenGL for Macs.

  • Pixel shader support

Decoding with pixel shaders can signifigantly improve the video experience and most video cards supports them.
As an example of how it can benefit here's links to screenshots of a youtube clip in SD and HD using sharpen complex 2 in MPC-HC

Is there a chance flash player could support pixel shaders in a future version?
If so, it would be nice to have a few simple shaders like denoise and sharpen and also allow people to enter their own code/config.

  • GLSL, HLSL, or Cg shader support in Director?

Subject pretty much sums it up.  Assuming I query Director to determine opengl or directx, is it possible to use modern programmable graphics shaders in Director?  I see the section on shaders, but I assume these are just prebuilt ones?  Some of the faqs on the web for 11.5 seem to imply some sort of way to use shaders in Director, but I can't find anything in the docs.
This seems to be a big feature difference between director and say unity 3d.  Thanks for any info.
    -John

    Thanks.
What type of shader stuff can you do in Director?
Normal map / spec map?  Cubic reflections?  Cell shading?
If it contains "typical" shader stuff, the product may be good enough to use until the next version which I would hope would address a lot of this.  It seems like Adobe has a product here that could be very cool if they made it current.  Look at all the current work on the web to get 3d going....   webGL, Googles O3d, Unity, Blender, etc.  What is missing from all these technologies is a professional tool chain.  Or is Adobe's roadmap to use Flash and integrate 3d into it.  Not papervision...

  • Does opengl es for iphone support skinned mesh?

    Hello guys!
Anyone has idea about implementing skinned mesh on iphone? Is it possible?

iPhone supports "OESmatrixpalette" extension which can be used for skinned meshes. You can find more info about extension here: http://www.khronos.org/registry/gles/extensions/OES/OESmatrixpalette.txt
Use glWeightPointerOES and glMatrixIndexPointerOES to upload your bone weights/indices with the rest of geometry. And glCurrentPaletteMatrixOES/glLoadPaletteFromModelViewMatrixOES to set deforming matrixes.

  • [Java 3D] Wich OpenGL versions are supported by natives libraries ?

    Hi,
anyone could tell me which OpenGL specifications are supported by Java 3D natives libraries ?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
Java 3D requires at least OpenGL 1.2. It runs on all newer releases up to the current release 4.1 and will run on future versions. Java 3D creates an OpenGL compatibility profile context supporting the (legacy) fixed function pipeline as well as the OpenGL Shading Language GLSL.
Java 3D's on-screen and off-screen rendering capabilities correspond to OpenGL 2.0 and support vertex and fragment shaders inclusive newest shading language features. On my OpenGL 3.2/DirectX 10 capable graphics device I successfully ran GLSL 1.5 features, see http://www.java.net/forum/topic/javadesktop/java-desktop-technologies/java-3d/shaders-java-3d-0 .

  • Mac Pro 2014 DVD Player -70017 error: VLC OpenGL is not supported

I am setting up my new 2014 Mac Pro from a mid 2010 Mac Pro via VNC (Finder/Go/Connect to Server) as I only have the Apple 30" Cinema display which is connected to my 2010.  I was encountering problems:
    1) DVD player would never start, giving the error "DVD Player encountered a system error Error: -70017."  If you hit OK the message dismisses and DVD player exits.  There is a CNET article that states a -70012 error can happen if you don't have an internal drive.  This is, of course, true for the 2014 Mac Pro.
    2) VLC gives the error when opening a VIDEO_TS file on disk  "OpenGL acceleration is not supported on your Mac.  Your Mac lacks Quartz Extreme acceleration ....".  It does play videos, but they play extremely slow.
After a hour on the line with Apple Support we determined that the problem is VNC .  VNC connections disable some drivers.  I connected the keyboard and monitor directly to the 2014 Mac Pro, and both programs worked perfectly.  With the programs working I then moved the monitor back to the 2010 and tried to resume playback using VNC.  The errors returned.
Just wanted to pass this info along in case someone else encounters the same issue.

Same problem here but a slight twist.
2011 iMac running Mountain Lion 10.8.3 with DVD player 5500.38.2
2009 Mac Mini running Mountain Lion 10.8.3 with DVD player 5500.38.2
DVD rips with RipIt, stored on a NAS.
iMac will play the rips through DVD player.
Mac Mini will not play rips through DVD player, but will play through VLC.
Mac Mini previously worked, but not sure what version OSX it was running then, could have been pre-Mountain Lion.
Curious about what's causing this.  It's a bit frustrating!

  • IdeaPad G780 OpenGL and PixelShader versions needed

    Hi,
I am currently looking to buy a replacement laptop, and the model I am interested in is the IdeaPad G780, M843KUK, Windows 7 (I absolutely do not want Windows 8).
A distributor has a number of suitable machines at a decent price, but before committing to buy one of those I absolutely need to know the OpenGL and Pixel Shader versions currently supported.
Those depend both from the GPUs (which define the absolute maximum possible, through their capabilities), and from the drivers, which define the actual maximum; Pixel Shader version is also limited by DirectX version, but OpenGL has no connection with DirectX.
That information is unknown to the distributors, unavailable on the website, and equally unknown to the assisted help on this website.
OpenGL version and/or Pixel Shader are critical requirements for most graphical applications, including games, and the new and future browser versions (due to HTML 5 and WebGL).
So, could anyone here provide me that information on that precise model?
There are technical tools which allow to find those values, for the machine the test is run on.

It has been a few days and nobody was answering the question...
That gave me the time to see that there are so many issues with Lenovo products, and existing customers are left without any support answers (most posts here seen to get no answer from Lenovo, or report issues which don't).
So I will just add Lenovo to the list of low quality brands I want nothing to do with; obviously support went to hell since IBM sold their former PCs branch a few years ago, and it went its own way under the name Lenovo,

  • Lack of Nvidia extension support under macosx

I'd like to play City of Heroes under macosx using Crossover Games.
I can do so fine on my macbook pro because it has a ati graphics card.
However on my tower I have a nvidia graphics card and the game will not load.
When I reported it to Crossover Games, I got the following email:
    From Stefan Dösinger <[email protected]>
date Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 11:39 AM
    subject CrossOver Games Mac Trial
It says "Your card does not support GLNV_vertexprogram" when I launch CohUpdater.exe .
That's because GLNV_vertexprogram(a nvidia specific opengl extension) isn't supported on MacOS. It is strictly speaking a bug in CoH. This extension isn't garanted to be there, even if you have an Nvidia card. An application must not depend on it.
The thing is that this extension happens to be supported by all Nvidia drivers on Windows and Linux, but MacOS uses different drivers which don't support it. So the game's broken assumption that Nvidia->GLNV_vertexprogram support doesn't hold true on Macs.
I can understand that this causes troubles for you. I can file a bug in Apple's bugtracker requesting support for this extension, but its likely that they'll just tell me that software can't depend on this extension.

Not really sure what type of response you're expecting here. Youv'e been told that the drivers don't support it, and there's really nothing your or anyone else here can do about it but hope for future support.

  • GLSL support for intel x3100 video cards?

I recently purchased a Lenova Thinkpad T61. I opted for an Intel integrated graphics card (X3100) since I had heard Intel had good open source drivers. Recently, I tried to play with some GLSL (OpenGL Shading Language) programming, but was greeted with segfaults at every turn. I finally downloaded and ran the examples from the bottom of this page: http://www.lighthouse3d.com/opengl/glsl … glexample1
Much to my surprise, they told me "No OpenGL 2.0 support" and "No GLSL support", respectively.
I am using xf86-video-intel-2.2.0-2 and the "Driver" in my xorg.conf is "intel".
Does anyone know anything about this? Am I out of luck hardware wise, or is this just a driver thing? Is support coming anytime soon? Am I using the wrong driver?
    Thanks,
    Jeremy

The GMA X3100 really doesn't have OpenGL 2.0 support, only OpenGL 1.5 support.
    See here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_GMA# … d_chipsets
I really don't know if the GLSL support can be implemented by the driver without OpenGL 2.0 hardware support.

  • Is my display card available for "OPENGL" in "AE CS4" or not?

    My video display card is
    " ATI FireGL V3350 "
is it supported in "After effects CS4" ?
    this card has OPENGL 2.0,
    but I can't find it in Preview setting(AE CS4)!
    I found the list
"OpenGL Preview display card support in After Effects"
    http://www.adobe.com/products/aftereffects/extend.html
but it is CS5 not CS4!
is my card available for "OPENGL" in "AE CS4" or not?
    thanks sooo much!

Does your AE 9 already work for you?  Go into preferences and see what happens.  You won't break anything.  If it doesn't work, you'll know, and vice-versa.
You should also know that ALMOST NOBODY uses Open GL to accelerate rendering, and that includes Adobe Employees.  The only time it makes sense is with a fancy third-party plugin like Particle Illusion... and even then, you'd better be careful if you stack effects up, because there are bound to be those that just won't work with Open GL.

  • About OpenGL and Waves Plug-ins GUI

    Hi,
I'm using 13" MacBook Pro (Early 2011 version) and i want to ask some questions about my problem. I'm a producer / sound engineer and i'm using Cubase 4. I installed Waves Complete Bundle Plug-ins. Plug-ins installed successfully but when i opened the plug-in, it works without GUI. I read lots of forums and people says "it can be OpenGL problem". My first question is Intel HD Graphics 3000 supports OpenGL? If it supports how can i solve this problem. I need suggestions about that.
Thank you in advance for your help.

I think all you can do is move them out of whatever folder there are in.

  • OpenGL driver for Toshiba Satellite C660-1J2 ?

Adobe After Effects always crash on startup.
It says it cannot initialize OpenGL and that I should contact the manufacturer of the Graphics adapter.
So I contact Intel because I got a Intel Hd Graphics adapter but they say the driver I already have is custom tuned for Toshiba. So I search on Toshiba but cannot really find any useful link.
Should I install OpenGL manually or can I disable it somehow without starting After Effect?
    How do I installOpenGl manually?
I have downloaded the latest Graphics adapter driver from you but it doesn't help.
All I want to do is to start a popular Adobe product so I believe many people have this problem.

    Hi
OpenGL is a standard API for writing software for 2D or 3D computer graphics.
OpenGL is an open source product but DirectX is released by Microsoft and mostly DirectX is part of the graphic card driver and not OpenGL.
However, you cannot download and install OpenGL to use it within the graphic card driver the OpenGL needs to be implemented in the driver
Mostly its done by graphic card manufacture.
Therefore you will need to check the Intel page to get an driver from Intel which supports OpenGL because the notebook supports the Intel (HM55) HD graphics.
This link detects which driver updates are relevant to your computer and then helps you install them quickly and easily.
