OpenGL only in software emulation
Hi, I recently installed arch linux.
So far, I got everything up and running, including network, gnome, synaptic touchpad and chrome/flash/java.
Now I have a problem with OpenGL:
glxinfo | grep "direct rendering" outputs "direct rendering: yes"
but it's sooooo slow, it's obvious that OpenGL runs in software emulation.
Is there anything I have to install like libmesa on debian to get hardware OpenGL working ?

[snip]You are currently running Google Earth in 'OpenGL' with software emulation. In this mode, Google Earth will work but it will run very slowly.[/snip]
- Google Earth error/warning message when launching it.
All drivers latest, pacman -Syu ran today.
I previosly had issues with getting VMWare's hardware-accelerated virtualized 3D support to work, due to lousy-crappy Intel graphics not supporting texture decompression in hardware (and Intel being too cheap to license it for Linux as well as Windows), but I worked around this with this hack -- this is why I choose to include the bulk of glxinfo's output, in case there is some other extension I'm missing.
I've played around with this for a while, but haven't been able to make any progress -- I may try and mess around with Google Earth and gdb to see what's making it think hardware acceleration is unavailable.
It seems I'm not the only person to report this -- here (I found more, but, natch, lost them and can't find them in history -- they were not insightful, anyway.)
I'm using google-earth from AUR (I wanted to try the 'official' Google Earth package, but for some strange reason that refused to install.)
Google Earth works fine, albeit sloooowly.
Any ideas on ways to fix/places to start looking? I've seen people mention Google Earth using it's own shipped-with precompiled libraries rather than system libraries, but prepending /lib:/usr/lib to LD_LIBRARY_PATH does not help (also, it seems that libQt* have been stripped from the installation by the AUR package, so it may be a moot point.)
I can't think of any more relevant information to include -- if I've missed anything, please poke me.
Thanks for your help, (I hope)Pretty delayed update, but this was just an error in the xorg.conf: apparently something got changed, so regenerating the config with X -configure generates one that worked well.

Flash 11.1 runs only in Software mode in all browsers
Hi,
I have a problem that the Flash player runs only in Software mode in all browsers.
I have the following notebook: Dell Vostro 3350 with dual graphics (Intel HD Graphics integrated and AMD Radeon HD 6490M dedicated), the OS is Windows 7 64-bit.
The driver version that is in the device manager is the following: 8.840.7.3000 (I've made sure to have installed the latest driver from Dell)
The hardware acceleration radio button in the Flash settings is on, of course.
The funny thing is that in the Flash 11 Incubator program DirectX rendering was working properly, the problems have started since the RC version of Flash 11.
Can you help me somehow?
Many thanks,
CapKosmatyHey guys, I'm unburying this thread; I've waited a bit, hoping that an update would put my model from the blacklist, but there's no change;
Here's my dxdiag log: (could it be that Flash has problems with switchable graphics? I run different retail games, like Star Wars: The Old Republic recently, and they run perfectly on the Radeon HD 6490M)
again, I'm grateful for help!

My MAX software only lists Software under My System
I am learning LabView and in one of the four tutorials it asks that you activate MAX via the icon on your desktop. When I activate MAX only the "Software" catagory shows under "My System" instead of the five catagories (Data Nieghborhood, Devices and Interfaces, Scales, Software, and IVI Drivers). What can be done to fix this problem?
Hi SRCPete,
Thanks for your post and I hope your well.
It has been sometime since you've posted - so I do hope you resolved your issue. But I just wanted to offer my support just incase.
This sounds like a MAX Database Corruption - going by some research into similar symptoms previous customers have seen. The resolution was to follow the guidance written in the following knowledgebase article,
How Do I Recover From MAX Database Corruption?
http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/86256F0E001DA9FF86256FFD005B827C?OpenDocument
However - I do have some questions:
1. Have they always been missing?
2. Could you please post a screenshot of what you MAX looks like?
Hope all is well - and Im sorry you haven't received any support this far... I'm not sure why a fellow Applications Engineer hasn't received notification that this thread hadn't been answered. Please accept the apology.
Kind Regards

Is there a way to easily install only free software in Arch Linux? Something like Debian's free non-free repo's or Gentoo's ACCEPT_LICENSE in make.conf?

I don't want to derail the thread too much but my laptop is a System76 from this year and the only wi-fi options available were for Intel.
Anyway, the Intel wireless driver is open source but it requires a binary firmware blob. Personally I don't understand why it needs to be distributed as firmware then and not just flashed onto the card once and for all. Their argument for the binary blob is that certain aspects of a wi-fi card, such as the radio frequencies on which it operates, should not be open to tinkering because they would void the various approvals that the device receives (FCC and such, if I remember correctly); I would argue that if it shouldn't be open for tinkering and, indeed, it should never be changed, it should just be permanently flashed onto the card. But, I must confess general ignorance about the inner workings of wi-fi cards.
I think the only other device on my laptop that I can't use due to using linux-libre is the SD card reader but I don't really care about that, so I haven't even checked. -
My first Java application only works on emulator
I've been programming (just for fun) for many years now, and a couple of days ago I got interested in writing software for my cellphone (a SE k500i). Now I've managed to create my first program. It works great when being run inside an emulator-window but not on my cellphone. I guess it crashes directly because I don't get any error messages or anything.
I've been developing it using netbeans and I'm using a "TableItem" to display searches (my program searches a huge list of swedish words (only the CRC32 of the words are stored in a file called "ord") to see if an inputted word is valid when playing Scrabble). Is it wrong to use the tableItem maybe?
Screenshot: http://home.no/filipsprogram/DUMP/Shot0001.JPG
I have attached the full source code for my program, if someone could take a look at it I would be very greatful:
(oh, one more thing, in netbeans, how do you delete autogenerated code? I added some commands in the "Screen Design"-er and deleted them right away but the code is still there...)

Control only the software instrument of one channel strip at a time with one Controller
Hi people,
I have a Nord Lead 2 and a Korg Nanokontrol and I want to use these as Midi controllers in the following way, but don't really know how to set up the system:
I have 4 Channelstrips and each has the free software instrument Tyrell N6 inserted. I have the opportunity to change the volume of each channel strip with my faders on the Nanokontrol which works fine and gives me the opportunity to make layers and change also to only use one sound at a time. And this works fine. However, now I want to have the opportunity to change the parameters of each Tyrell with my Nord Lead. But with 4 channelstrips each with a Tyrell N6 I want to have the opportunity to only somehow manipulate only one instance of Tyrell at a time and change the channelstrip for which the Nord Lead manipulates the Tyrell. Is there an opportunity in Mainstage to do that?
Hope it is understandable. Help would be really much appricated. Looking forward to hearing from you.Hi DaCaptain,
Thank you very much for your answer. I tried it yesterday, but it doesnt really work for me to be honest. The thing is that I really wanna stick to one patch, so that I can have like one patch for each song.
However, if you might be interested I found a way to do it yesterday on my own. This is how I have done it:
In Layout-Mode
- Create Controls for each instance of Tyrell. For my purpose I created 4 times:
- controlls for the Filter Section
- controls for ADSR1
- controls for ADSR2
- So you have 4 Sections of controllers in Layout Mode. Each meant to controll one Tyrell Instance
- Now each section gets its own Midi Channel. So all the controllers of section 1 respond to MIDI Channel 1 and the controllers of section 2 respond to MIDI Channel 2 and so on.
- Now you tell the Nord Lead that it should send via MIDI Channel 1 and you assign the Cutoff-Controller of the Nord Lead to the controller (the one of the first section) that is suppose to control the cutoff of the first Tyrell. And you proceed this way until all the controllers of the first sections are assigned. Then you swith to MIDI Channel 2 on the Nord Lead and assign the Cutoff-Controller of the Nord Lead to the controller (the one of the second section) that is suppose to control the cutoff of the second Tyrell. And here again you proceed this way until all the controllers of the second sections are assigned. Then you go on with the third and fourth section taking MIDI Channel 3 and 4.
In Edit-Mode
- In Edit Mode now you of course assign the controllers to the functions in each Tyrell
Result
- Now you can switch between the MIDI Channels on the Nord Lead. This is quiet easy because you can assign a MIDI Channel to one of four buttons on the Nord Lead.
- So if you switch to MIDI Channel 1 you can controll the functions of the first Tyrell and if you switch to MIDI Channel 2 you can controll the functions of the second Tyrell. And all in one Patch with only one controller which is even from the nineties. I find this really great. The only problem is that the Layout might get really messy, if you try to maybe control more functions of each Tyrell. And I really think maybe Mainstage in future could give us the opportunity to create bigger Layouts - maybe with different Windows or something.
Hope you might find this interesting or even helpful.
See you -
Since I reinstalled my software from my timemachine, my macbook pro 13" 2011 i7 4GB is acting weird.
Only apple's software makes a connection to the internet.
Other software products like chrome, spotify and dropbox tell me there is some sort of proxy problem.
When opening spotify it says:
there is problem, your firewall blockes spotify, or you are using a proxy.
But I've resetted the proxy settings to the original state, which is none of the choices selected in system preferences, and turning off my firewall doesn't help.
What should I do?Tijmen104 wrote:

I followed Apple's suggestion to resolve the high CPU usage by iTunes. Running Autoruns (MS) shows Bonjour is the ONLY LSP provider. My conclusion is that Apple's software is defective and they don't want to admit it.
is there any solution for this problem?SOLVED IT
Right click on Apple Software Update in the Start Menu and bring up the Properties Window
Select the Security tab
Select your Username (don't worry about what rights the computer Administrators group has, it does not apply here) and select Edit
After you pressed Edit, you should have a Window that shows all the computer groups (Administrators, etc.) and usernames (yours and other users (if any)) on your computer. Select yours.
Change your Rights to Full Control, press OK.
Press Apply, applying the changed settings to Apple Software Update, then press OK to close the Properties Window.
You can now run Apple Software Update and see what programs (updates) there are to download. For some reason, the latest update which came down gave the computer user (in this case, you--meaning pitiful us) no rights other than deleting. This meant that we could not see anything--no updates, nothing. What we just did through this list was give the ability back to the user. -
Trying to render is crashing not only the software, but my entire computer!
Hello!
I do a weekly webshow that I've been making with Premiere CS5 since November. In all that time I've never had any trouble but just this past Sunday I went to render in the H264 format I always use and the bar got to around 45% before the whole thing went tits up - the computer gave me a quick blue screen of death before restarting.
What I was able to glean from the blue screen was a suggestion that this could be due to a conflict with another piece of software. I don't install a lot of software on a regular basis, but recently I'd installed Tubeshack and - I admit - Team Fortress 2. I tried uninstalling Tubeshack and then rendering with the H264 format and the Level set to 5.0
Lucky me, I got a full render! Thinking the problem solved, I then tried to render a smaller file with the level at 4.1 (a lot of video upload sites have stingy upload limits).
The computer crashed again. Same blue screen. Same briefly displayed message about "HEY MAYBE THIS IS A SOFTWARE CONFLICT I DON'T KNOW MAN". I was, however, able to render a tiny (15 seconds) stretch of my video without complaint. I tried deleting render files, thinking that folder had gotten too fat, but this made no difference.
I know my computer is up to snuff for what I'm asking of it and that those two programs I installed recently are the only changes I've made lately. I've run my anti-viral with no results and am getting a bit concerned as I have grander editing plans in the near future.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers,

Ran chkdsk /b
Rebooted no such luck after check disk
Adjusted Voltage in BIOS and in TURBOV Asus's mobo tools
No luck

One thing I'd like to add is that I cannot shake the feeling that some sort of resource has been slowly consumed over time. Why? Because when I first put the computer together I could preview video in Premiere in real-time. Over the year that followed the previews became slower and chunkier until finally this hoo-ha happened. I've tried hunting for a crowded temp file but no luck. I also tried "Clear Render Files" but it made no difference.

Is iTunes the only music software for the Mac?
I like iTunes but I ask this because from my understanding of things, If you have a Mac, you must use iTunes, and if you purchase music through iTunes, it will only allow you to play it on your computer or an iPod (which i don't have).
I have a portable MP3 player for the gym and it's not an iPod but it works with iTunes. I'm stuck! The only way I can put music on my MP3 player is from CDs i already have. I can't buy music through iTunes because I understand I wont be able to play it anyway. And I cant buy music through anyother online means because nothing else seems to work with iTunes. You can buy your music throug iTMS, burn it to CD as a normal audio CD, then import it as an MP3 file. You should then be able to transfer the MP3 music to your MP3 player. OK so you get 2 copies of your music, but it does achieve what you're after

Killer's network drivers only [without software suite]
>>Killer_E220x_Wireless-N_INF_Win7_Win8_Win8.1.zip<<
Okay. I see the confusion. He is using the drivers that Svet recommended. Which are slightly newer than your own, but are also without the Killer Network Manager and must be installed manually. (10.0.1.263 for the Wireless and 8.0.2.42 for the e2200)
My issues with the wireless seemed to go away with Svet's drivers - which was essentially a newer download pinned to the forums of what Warner gave to you. He could give Warner's a try but they basically are the same. I assumed my issue didn't go away as I was having another BSOD issue that didn't exactly specify which device was causing the BSOD.
As for my issue - I have uninstalled the Logitech software and haven't had a crash within the past day and a half. I noticed the longer I have the laptop on, the more likely the BSOD. So, I am leaving it on all day playing games off and on.
I did notice that SetPoint does install software that is meant for keyboards. Simply because Logitech has a unified driver suite between their mice and keyboards able to use a single wireless dongle, eliminating the need to use one for each device. This could, in theory, be causing an issue with the MSI SCM. Most people think of the SCM as a control app, but it also installs a service (called Micro Star SCM) which handles event communication between several different driver packages/software. This is why when the SCM is uninstalled, the keyboard light manager fails to start up as well as Hybrid Power and a few other MSI apps. If uninstalling the Logitech software does work, then it could be that the keyboard manager in SetPoint is intercepting events that should be going to the SCM service.
If it crashes again, I will swap out the mouse itself. I'll update my thread on this issue on the next crash or in a few days if I have no further issues. I'm crossing my fingers and thanks for the tips. -
Time Machine - Will it be the only backup software required
With the forthcoming Leopard nearly upon us, I'm wondering whether Time Machine will be the only form of backup required?
Once my files are backed up to an external drive by Time Machine, if my current Mac dies a horrible death, would another mac plugged into that hard drive be able to access those backed up files?
Any thoughts or facts?

How do I know if formhistory.sqlite on firefox 3.6.8 is corrupt?
Ever since I updated to 3.6.8 (Wiindows XP), Firefox looses form history on restart, even though all settings are for it to retain and there is no such setup on my antivirus. I tried support chat and agent zzxc suggested that perhaps my formhistory.s
