Opening a New Window/Session....

Hi,
I have a hyperlink in one of my application as:
Test Link
When a Superuser click on one of the Subusers it opens a New window with the Current Username parameter passed.(Via the jsp page). But the problem is when the SUperuser is coming back to his own window, he is being logged out.
I know i will not have this problem (in my application ) if clickin on that link opens a NEW Internet Explorer browser window; and then pass the parameters. Is there any workaround. Please suggest.
Thanks,
JJ

Hey different points of view is good.
I agree with your statement in principle. Sending stuff like that across URL parameters is bad practice.
From my understanding the requirement can be restated as : "Can we open a browser window that has a seperate session from its parent?"
It is fairly common knowledge in IE that opening a new window "shares" the current session, and starting a new process from the shortcut starts a new session.
AFAIK there is no way that one browser window that can spawn a child window with a different session, which is what would be required here.
unless I've misunderstood the question :-)

  • I no longer have the option under 'File' on the main menu to open a new window.

    In the past(recent past) I was able to open a new window of Firefox by licking on File then there was an option to open a new window(session) of Firefox. At some point which I am unsure of that option is no longer there. Does anyone know why or how I can correct or fix it?
    I'd very much appreciate the help because I miss the feature very much!

    If you do not see the menu bar with the File menu then see [[Menu bar is missing]]
    Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
    You can also try "Reset toolbars and controls" on the [[Safe mode]] start window

  • Firefox opens the old browsing window (previous session) every time i try and open a new window, how do I change this back?

    Every time I go to open a new window, the old one will come up instead. For a while it was working fine, then I kept needing the old window and would use the 'restore previous session' feature to access this. However, even after I didn't need it anymore (and without me selecting the feature, it would still open the previous session.

    It is possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
    Delete the files sessionstore.js [2] and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.

    If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.<br />
    Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).

  • JSP Dynpage iView 'Open in New Window' losses session data

    Hi All,
    I have a JSP Dynpage that displays some position holder information based on a position id passed in by the URL query string.  The problem that I am trying to solve is to allow the user to open the iView in its own window by using the 'Open in New Window' option from the button in the upper right of the iView title bar.  When this happens the URL query string is no longer available so the iView has problems.  My solution is to store the position id in the session object then read from that session object when the query string is not available - when opening in a new window.
    But what is happening is that the position id saved in the session object is no longer there when the new window opens.  I have looked else where on this site but all posts seem to deal with data transfer from JSP Dynpage to the JSP page.  This issue is dealing with a page getting re-opened in a new page (browswer).
    I can't seem to get the session object to work between JSP Dynpages at all, I would think that the data put into the session would stay there untill either cleared or the session ends.  Am I missing some configuration settings?  I have included some of the key code below.
    // GET THE POSITION ID FROM THE URL QUERY STRING
    String PosId;
    PosId = request.getParameter("CKey");
    if (PosId == null)
         myBean.testing = (String) request.getComponentSession().getValue("PosId");
    else
         PosId = PosId.substring(6, 14);
         request.getComponentSession().putValue("PosId", PosId);
         myBean.testing = "POSID:" + PosId;
    Thanks for all ideas and help.

  • If Firefox is set as the default browser, and any application attempts to open a new window, this fails and I get the error "Firefox is already running..."

    Here is what I am running:
    Microsoft Windows 7, Service Pack 1, Fully updated to 4/10/2012
    Fresh Install of Firefox 11. No add-ons enabled as a result of troubleshooting.
    I am a user with administrator rights
    UAS is disabled.
    To begin, this has been going on Since Firefox 10 or so. A few months now.
    I am able to open Firefox. My add-ons worked (ABP, Flashblock, ABP Element Hiding Helper, IETAB2, Downthemall, Greasemonkey, 4chan extension) had no problems. Firefox is set and has been set for the last two years as my default web browser.
    However Since approximately Firefox 10 or so, maybe before that, If I have a Firefox session open, and any other application attempts to open a session in a new window, I get the Firefox is already running, but not responding error."
    I attempted to follow troubleshooting advice already posted (look for parent.lock files left behind [none present], multiple sessionstore.js files [none present], create a new user profile, attempted to clear out the "read-only" permission in windows 7, however as soon as it is cleared, the read only permission returns.)
    As a last resort, I deleted the Firefox folder, the %APPDATA%/Mozilla directory in its entirety, then utilized CCleaner to remove any and all references to Firefox in the windows registry, then did a full re-install, no extensions installed right now.
    I checked preferences and have the option "open new windows in a new tab" checked off. The problem persists regardless if this option is checked on or off. This problem persists in or out of safe mode, even with the brand new install.
    Test Cases:
    All cases:
    Firefox is selected as the default browser for windows 7
    Case 1: Open a firefox session. Utilize any other program that attempts to open a link to their website in a new browser window or new browser session. Experience "Firefox is already running" error
    Case 2: Open a firefox session. Right click on Firefox on the task bar. Select "open in new window". Experience "Firefox is already running" error
    Case 3: Open a firefox session. Select the Firefox Menu > New tab > New Window. A new window will actually open.
    This is the only method of opening a new window in the same browser session or profile that actually works on my system. Attempting to open a browser session from the task bar "open new window dialog" or opening a new window while a current window/session is running will not open firefox in a new window or a new tab in the current session. The "Firefox is already running, but is not responding" error will occur every time.

    Cor-el's suggestion resolved my problem. Apparently the MOZ_NO_REMOTE variable was set to 1 on my system variables. I never made it, and really have no idea how it got there, but deleting this variable and restarting firefox has resolved the issue. Thanks Cor-el!
    Marking case: Solved
    Solution: Verify the MOZ_NO_REMOTE variable is NOT set to 1. This can be achieved by simply deleting this variable.

Also, when I close the program after trying to open a new window the program is still running but I have no Firefox window to work in and therefore have to go through the Task Manager to end the program. Sometimes when I close Firefox and try to open it in few moments it shows me message "Firefox is already running, but is not responding. Hi Andis.
    First of all, this is completely normal behavior, although it's a bit irritating, I know. What happens is that when you close Firefox, despite the window disappearing right there and then, Firefox keeps running for a little bit until the whole closing procedure is completed. This can take a fraction of a second on fast computers, or can take a few seconds on slow computers or when Firefox is storing a large session (if you save your tabs). All you have to do is wait a bit until Firefox closes, and then open it again.
    To see if it's still running, you can press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC and then, under the Processes tab, you can see if firefox.exe is still there. If it's taking an unusual amount of time to close (which happens very rarely, and only if the browser freezes on exit), you can force the application to terminate from this application (task manager).
    Firefox 4.0 will reduce by 97% the time it takes firefox.exe to close, so this problem will be basically erased for Firefox's next version.
    Until then, I can recommend you this extension, which helps you restart your browser more easily and without bothering about closing times:
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3559/
    Hopefully this will help.

  • When opening a new window, it automatically loads last pop-up (?) content and I am unable to type in address bar or open a new tab in the new window.

    I don't know if they're technically pop-up windows (for example, if you do a search on kayak.com, it will automatically open a new priceline.com window with the results of the search), but this happens with pop-up blocker on or off. Other examples are a small info window from a financial or .edu site that opens up saying a session is about to expire, or answering an FAQ (with the exception of the priceline example, these windows don't have an address bar or display a URL). Anyway, after these windows are closed, if I try to open a new window, it will automatically load the content of that "pop-up". Whenever it does this, I am unable to type in the address bar or open a new tab in that window.
    How do I fix this? All I want is to open a new window that's blank, not load prior content.

    It could be the work of one of your add-ons, or even add / mal-ware.
    Look thru your add-ons list and make sure you know what each one is
    there for. Also, check the programs that are on your computer
    '''Windows > Start > Control Panel > Uninstall Programs.'''
    '''(Mac: Open the "Applications" folder)'''
    Go thru the list and use a web search to check any that you don't
    know what they are.

  • When I open a new window, the spinner does not stop, or the window open

    I have a MBP 3 yrs. old, running Snow Lep. When I open a new window, the spinner in the address bar spins and window does not open unless I click on the X and stop the spinner. Some times this doesn't work either. It just hangs up trying to open the next window.

    The given are very little details about your problem so please elaborate.
    2. on each page load you have to verify whether the session variable. if "IsLoggedIn" exists and its value is "true" then you can show the requested page otherwise redirect to login page.
    if(Session["IsLoggedIn"] == null || Session["IsLoggedIn"] != "true")
    Response.Redirect("login.aspx");
    Better way: use a master page. In the load_page event, check the session. Thus, you wouldn't need to write the method to check in every page, just in the master page.
    Noam B.
    Do not Forget to Vote as Answer/Helpful, please. It encourages us to help you...
    Masterpage is a better idea.
    But The login page shouldn't use MasterPage OR need to have logic to check before redirecting to login page if you are already in Login page.
    Otherwise you will get into Recursive Redirection error.
    hope this helps.

  • Right click on a link and selecting "open in new window" does not work. How do I gewt this feature to work? PS Right click on a link and selecting open in new tab does.

    No matter where the link is - in an e-mail or on a web page - the "Open in new window" feature does not work. Very annoying. Also I close Firefox in a session, but then cannot re-open it. When I shut my PC down I get a prompt to End Task -[ Firefox ] and a window opens asking if I want to save tabs and quit; quit; or cancel. After closing Firefox it does not show as an application running in Task Manager
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == I recently re-installed Firefox.

    Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
    If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the ''Safe mode'' start window.
    You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (on Mac: "Firefox > Quit")

  • Opening a new window calls action methods again.

    Hi all,
    I have a form that has a button to submit the information. For certain scenarios that submission can take over 30 seconds. So while that submission is taking place I hit <ctrl>-N on the browser to open a new window. This new window is calling the action methods associated with the submit button of the form.
    My guess is that this second window is sharing the session information of the other window and therefore is sending the request flow through the state of the other view.
    What can I do to handle this case?
    Thanks.
    Jason

    If you want to open a new window besides your original window, then you have to do it with javascript. Put a code similar like this in your onClik property of your hyperlink:
    window.open("faces/Page1.jsp", "","toolbar=0,scrollbars=0,location=0,statusbar=0,menubar=0,resizable=0,width=400,height=450");
    return false;When you click the hyperlink, it will open a second window of Page1.jsp. You can use if-else construct in javascript to choose which page you want to show.
    If you want to pass a value to the second window, you can use query string like this:
    window.open("faces/Page1.jsp?par1=value1", "","toolbar=0,scrollbars=0,location=0,statusbar=0,menubar=0,resizable=0,width=400,height=450");
    return false;Passing a field value in table component to second window:
    window.open("faces/Page1.jsp?par1=#{currentRow.value['FIELDNAME']}", "","toolbar=0,scrollbars=0,location=0,statusbar=0,menubar=0,resizable=0,width=400,height=450");
    return false;To retrieve the parameter in the second page (in this case Page1.jsp), put this in init():
    javax.servlet.http.HttpServletRequest req = (javax.servlet.http.HttpServletRequest) getExternalContext().getRequest();
            String par1 = req.getParameter("par1");After getting the parameter value, you can do the rest as your normal page, ie populating the page the way you like.
    AFAIK, the only way to open a new window is through javascript only. CMIIW.
    Hope that helps.

  • How to open WD- Adobe form open in new window -without Portal header

    Hi,
    In my WD application -MAINVIEW , I made 2 different groups under ROOTUIELEMENTCONTAINER
    GROUP1 -Selection fields with search button - with ROW LAYOUT

    yes.. you can launch the form from a selection screen into a new window...
    I am using this to launch an editable PDF from a selection screen into a new window. This code is placed on the event handler of my Create button on the selection screen.
      DATA: str TYPE string,
            l_window1 TYPE REF TO if_wd_window_manager,
            l_cmp_api TYPE REF TO if_wd_component,
            result TYPE REF TO if_wd_window,

            ls_parms like LINE OF lt_parms.
      ls_parms-name  = 'OPERATION'.

    You have to be aware, though, that you will lose ALL your context data b/c you are opening a new user session. That's why I had to use url parameters to pass data to my form.

  • Disable Last tabs opened in new window

    I have the "Show my windows and tabs from last time " option enable, but I would like to only have the tabs from the last window closed, so when I start firefox, I get my last tabs from my "last session" and when I create a new window using ctrl + N, I have just a blank page waiting to be used, instead of a bunch of last tabs I opened from another x session.

    Thanks both for the help, actually, it does not matter if I close all windows before the last one with my desired tabs opened, I figured out that every time I open a new window when the first one is already opened ( again with my desired last session tabs) the new window always features the following: a gmail tab and next a blank tab.
    Actually I would like just the blank tab, if that's possible I would like to know how to set it that way.
    Thanks again!

    Hi Rongrong,
    the only other way I can think of is by using a link with target="_blank". There always needs to be an action/trigger on the frontend opening a new window, you cannot force it from the backend as there is no push mechanism within http, meaning once the response is processed and sent out to the requestor you don't have any link to the frontend any more by which you could push data from the backend to the frontend. Session information for http is always kept either in cookies or in specially mangled URL's and not by the protocol.
    Hope that helps.
    Best Regards
    Michael
