Opening a Secure PDF

Hello,
I am using CF8 on a WinXP machine, using XAMPP to server the pages.
I am working on an app that needs to display a PDF, but not allow it to be changed or printed.  I know that when I view the PDF in the browser, I cannot remove the "Save a copy" button.  So, to try and deter the users, I have created a script that uses iText to add some text to the PDF and then use <cfpdf> to protect the PDF and set the permissions to "None".
The PDF that is created is stored on the server and when I open the PDF directly (using Adobe Acrobat), but security is working properly.  If I create a href link to the file, the security settings in the browser are maintained.
Since I need to have the user select the PDF, modify the PDF and then view the PDF, I am using a <cfcontent> tag in a cfm to view the PDF.  When I do this, I see the modified PDF, but the security settings are lost.  I can print and save the file.  When using the href method, I can still save the file, but the resulting file, still maintains the security settings.
Does anyone know how I can open the PDF (without using href) and still maintain the security settings?  Everything with the created and protecting of the PDF works properly, but it falls apart when the PDF is viewed.
Thanks
Mike

Hello,
I found the problem.  In the cfm to display the PDF, I was referencing the wrong PDF.
Thanks
Mike

  • Digital Editions will NOT open secured PDF

My PDF is secured with a permissions password, but does not require a password to open.  But when I drag it into the ADE window, the dialogue box says "This version of Digital Editions does not support password-protected documents."  I have ADE 1.7.2 on Windows 7 HP.  Is there a way to open my secured PDF with ADE?

I have the exact same problem. When will Adobe fix this limitation?

  • Opening Encrypted/Certificate Secured PDF.

    Hello,
I have a pdf encrypted using certificate. I want to open this pdf using Acrobat sdk APIs. I have read the documentation of "Opening secured Pdf". I learnt that AVDocOpen() function calls Acrobat built in authorization procedure and using PD layer to open a encrypted pdf we need to write our own authorozation procedure. I want some example which demostrates how encrypted pdf are opened. Also, when opening certificate secured pdf, where does Acrobat installs the certificate?
    Please can someone guide me!!
    Thanks in advance.

Yes, you can read XMP w/o opening the PDF – of course, that assumes that the XMP is not encrypted (it's a choice of the PDF authoring/encrypting tool).

  • Authenticate secure PDF

I have installed Adobe Acrobat 9 on Fedora 14 and I am trying to open a secured PDF that requires a ID and PWD. When I click 'unlock' I get the Message: "AN error occured during the submit process. Cannot process response due to unknown content type."
What is going on and how do I fix it?

It does not open from with in firefox. When I attemptthat it just prompts to download it from my hard drive to my hard drive. This is not a PDF that I can share because it is not one that I created. It is an E-book for an online class I am taking on an Introduction to Unix. I had read about an issue earlier today of someone having a simmilar problem and they were told to rever their acrobat reader back to version 7. Reader 7 does not seem to be available anymore. However, the document does unlock in Window but not in Linux. While in Windows whith the document unlocked I did manage to get the document to print out with MS XPS document writer and then print it back into PDF using Cute PDF writer from within Windows. Now I have PDF versions of my E-books (Unsecured) that I need for my class that can be opened from within Linux.

When I try to open an .ai/pdf file received through my email, it won't open and asks for a password. I have never set up any kind of password for email security, but have tried typing in my standard passwords. Nothing works. I wonder if it has anything to do with the use of my Wacom3 Tablet...I've been having trouble with it and was getting the same message when trying to open the User's Manual in my Applications/WacomTablet file on my hard drive. Any suggestions? I just downloaded the latest version for the Wacom and recently upgraded to Snow Leopard 10.6.7 (which I hate, and my CS3 hates, etc.)

It sounds like you have a a password-protected PDF. The password was set by the person who encoded it.

If you have a tablet that runs full Windows 8 - not Windows 8 RT, which is limited.
And if you install the full Adobe Reader for Windows, not the special Adobe Reader Touch for Windows 8.
Then you will have the same features as a desktop.
Unless they can't be accessed in touch mode, since it isn't a touch app.

  • Opening Secured PDF documents in Adobe Reder 9.0

    Dear Forum Members,
In our organisation, the links to the HR Policy documents are provided in our intranet. These documents are in PDF format protected with password. Also these documents are protected from Saving and Printing. We never face any security problems (No Save, No Tool Bars, Menu Bars, No Windows Controls and No Printing) till date using Adobe reader versions prior to ver 9.0. But our organization has recently upgraded the Adore Reader to 9.0. Now the users are able to save these PDF documents in their local systems and do printing also.
We don't want to system to prompt for "Save or Open" where the PDF documents are clicked. It should directly open the PDF document
If anyone of you can provide a solution, it will be a great.
    Thanks and Warm Regards,
    D.Basavalingam

Also these documents are protected from Saving and Printing.
You can't protect PDF documents from saving.

  • Adobe Reader Crashes while opening Secure PDF Documents

    Hi,
I have Adobe Reader 8.1.2. Up until today, i was able to open secure PDF documents without any issue. Suddenly, it started to give me errors, saying "Adobe Reader has encountered a problem and it needs to close. I have to tell Microsoft" and so on...
I tried re-installing 8.1.0, secure documents opened a few times and then the same problem returned. I can open normal PDF documents but the problem is with the secure ones.
    Rebooting, re-installing again didn't help.
What could be the issue and how to solve it? I have Trend Micro Antivirus s/w but i always had them all these days and everything was fine.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Can someone help me on this please?
I have tried removing Adobe Reader, re-install it but doesn't help. Secure documents do open sometimes but fail again. I have even tried removing Adobe Reader using MSI Cleanup Utility, no use.
The problem seems to be in the imapdb.dll. An error report is generated by Windows XP but it is rather large to fit in here.
I also Trend Micro Anti-Virus tool and it may have something to do with it is what i feel.
Any help on how to solve this will be great.
    Thanks

  • ISSUE OPENING SECURE PDF FILE

    Hi
I am unable to open the link in the secure pdf file after entering the password. It says to double click the link to view the content in it but nothing happens when I double click it . Please help.

Hold the Control key and click it. It should open in a browser window... or pop up a warning about Reader trying to connect to the internet. Click OK and it should connect.
If it doesn't, the link is "broken" and there's NOTHING anyone here can do about that. ONLY the author can fix the link.

  • Anyone know how open "secured" pdf's downloaded and saved?

Adobe X freezes and shows "Not Responding" when attempting to open some saved pdf's.  Noticed that the pdf's which won't open show "Secured" next to the file name in the upper left corner.  These will open while still online, but cannot open the saved file later.  Windows 7.

An example of a "Secured" pdf can be found at: www.envisionreports.com/XOM/2011/08605JA11E/default.htm?voting=false.  Choose to download the Notice of Annual Meeting file.  It will open while on line.  But when saved to my computer, Adobe X will not open the file.  In the file name field, it indicates "Secured" and "Adobe Reader Not Responding".  Other pdf's that do not show "Secured" open with no problem.  Don't recall this to have been an issue in earlier versions of Adobe Reader.

  • I am experiencing difficulties opening some web-based PDF files on my iPad. I was having the same difficulty opening the same PDFs on my iMac (after I upgrade to Yosemite) but was able to overcome it by adjusting the Adobe Reader plug-in settings.

I am experiencing difficulty opening some web-based PDF documents on my iPad. I had exactly the same difficulty on my iMac (after I upgraded to Yosemite) but was able to overcome it by adjusting the Adobe Reader plug-in security settings in Safari (in OSX).
Unfortunately there does not seem to be a way to similarity adjust the security settings in Safari in iOS 8.
The message I get when I attempt to open the PDF (on my iPad) is as follows:
"To view the full contents of this document you need a later version of PDF viewer. You can upgrade to the latest version of Adobe Reader from ..."
Needless to say this is unhelpful for two reasons:
    - I have the very latest version of Adobe Reader; and
    - in iOS Adobe Reader is not a plug-in and plays absolutely no role in opening web-based PDF documents.
If anyone has experienced this difficulty and has been able to overcome it I would be most appreciative to hear of you solution.
    Cheers

  • Can I open an encrypted pdf file from Dropbox with my iPhone, iPad, or iPad Mini?

Mac OS 10.9.3 encrypts a pdf file using Acrobat XI, then sends it to Dropbox.  Mobile device retrieves encrypted file from Dropbox.  Then can mobile device user open (unencrypt) the pdf file?

George, you wrote something that encouraged me to try to encrypt a PDF document again using the security icon on the menu bar of my old Acrobat 8 Professional. It worked this time (it wouldn't encrypt on my first try, and I wrongly assumed that it wasn't compatible with Maverick OS).  I dropped document into Dropbox, retrieved it with mobile devices; and when I tapped on the document, it simply asked for the password and opened perfectly. When moving to a different screen, then back to the secured PDF file, one must re-enter the password again (which is good).
As far as what PDF viewer -- I don't know.  I have the Acrobat Reader APP on my devices, is that the reader the document is using??  I've never figured out which APPs are running at any particular time on these devices.
Many, many thanks for your reply!!
