Opening an URL in background

Hi everybody,
In my application, I have to open an URL to run a method on the server via a simple JSP page. But I don't want that the user sees this page (no IE window open).
Is that possible? I have tried to auto-close the window, but depending on the user's settings it will ask him if yes or not he wants to close the window :(

If you are using java client then you can use some java code to call the url and make a get request. Based on the result, you can proceed.
You can use apache commons HttpClient to make http request to URL. OR
URL url = new URL(your url);
URLConnection conn = url.openConnection();
BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(conn.getInputStream()));
String line; while ((line = in.readLine()) != null) {
//your business logic
}

  • Quicktime HREFs for to open a URL

    My goal was a quicktime movie that had a link to open a URL.  I made one in Quicktime Pro 7. It had a hotlink across the top of the video throughout and at any point you could click and a browser opened to the page.  It worked fine.  I would have liked a non black background, but it was good enough.
    Below is the code I added:
    {QTtext}{font:Century}{plain}{size:12}{textColor: 65535, 65535, 65535}{backColor: 0, 0, 0}{justify:center}{timeScale:30}{width:480}{height:14}{timeStamps:absolute}{lan guage:0}{textEncoding:0}
    [00:00:00.00]
    {HREF:http://fan.bbyo.org/stayinformed/}CLICK HERE So We Can Add You To Our Alumni Roster.{endHREF}
    [00:01:45.13]
    I sent it off to people and they were telling me it didn't work.  Sure enough, when you open it in the current quicktime player (10.2) the banner is not across the top and clicking does nothing.  It works fine in quicktime 7.
    Can anyone tell me if I am doing something wrong?
    If this is somehow not supported anymore, is there a new way I can do it?
    Please help ASAP.  I am supposed to have this project done by Tuesday.
    Thanks.

    QuickTime no longer supports Flash media playback so it can't be used to save the files.
    You'll need third party software to download and convert them.

  • How can I stop my Firefox browser from preventing Click Earner, a program that opens email ads on safelists, from opening the URL's in the email ads?

    Hello fellow-users of Mozilla Firefox,
    I send email ads using 20 different safelists every day. To get credits for sending those ads I click email ads sent by other subscribers.
    Since early this year I've been using Click Earner -- http://www.clickearner.net/ -- to help speed up this task. Click Earner "fetched"
    the emails from each safelist and opened each URL advertised in each email. This was a very quick job and all I did was close each tab
    displaying the URL. Credits for clicking the URL were added to my safelists accounts.
    Since a week ago, without me doing anything at all, my Click Earner stopped opening the emails automatically as was the case for
    several months since I started using it. Click Earner support claimed Firefox prevented the program from opening the URL in a new tab each time it fetched an email ad. True enough, yesterday when I watched Click Earner in action I saw a pop-up from Firefox saying something like "Firefox prevented..." I couldn't read the rest as the pop-up disappeared immediately. And that was the only
    time I saw it.
    Right now I have to open each URL manually to see the ad and earn credits. This is a very slow process, just the same as when I open the emails in my gmail account. It's useless for me to subscribe to Click Earner. And it takes forever for me to earn credits from all the safelists.
    I'd appreciate it very much if any one of you folks would help me overcome this glitch. I look forward to hearing from you and thank you very much in anticipation.
    Regards,
    Tom Graciano

    You could try turning off Firefox's pop-up blocker.
    "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Content
    There you will find a checkbox for "Block pop-up windows". Assuming it's checked, uncheck it.
    Does that return to the behavior you want?

    Running Windows XP service pack 3. Updated Firefox from 8.0 to 9.0. Now when Firefox opens "The URL is not valid and cannot be loaded" is displayed in a window and no home page appears. What's wrong?

    That issue can be caused by an extension that isn't working properly.
    Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

  • How to open text URL in the new tab

    Hi guys,
    We know that when we click on a hyperlink it will directly open the linked web site, e.g.
    www.bing.com
    But sometimes we may find some URL in plain text that we couldn't click on it, e.g. www.bing.com
    I'll have to select the URL and copy&paste it to a new tab to open it, this is time wasting.
    The time IE 9 came out, I found a wonderful add-on, Open URL in New Tab (with Preview)
    This will do the trick to open the text URL in the new tab by right click on it.
    http://www.iegallery.com/us/addons/detail.aspx?id=3614
    But I don't like two things of it.
    1st, it will try to preview the web site when I using it which is undesired.
    2nd, it will open the link through another site and then jump back to the link I need to open. But I'd like to open the link directly. Which will open the link more quickly also save my time.
    Questions:
    Is there any other way to open the plain text URL directly? I mean without copy and past it to another page.
    It would be great if I can open the URL by dragging it like the other...

    In these forums?  If you are using the NNTP Bridge you could view your message in your News reader's Plain text mode and then see that your two examples worked equivalently.   <eg>
    Otherwise, in general, I agree there are some pretty obvious "accelerators" which could have been provided.
    I suspect much of the problem will be due to "security".   E.g. Windows used to have a functionality called text scraps, where you could select some text and drag and drop it just about anywhere to create a scrap file.   That's
    not working for me any more either.   If it were we could at least drag it to the Address bar and press Enter...

  • Error message" The file may be damaged or corrupted -1610153464/ also unable to open projects in the background 26:: 142

    Hello everyone,
    I hope someone can help me.
    I am using AE CC/Windows 7 on a Dell computer, 32 GB RAM, 64 bit op system, processors: Intel (R) Xeon (R) CPU x5670 @ 2.93 Ghz 2.93 Ghz (2 processors).
    So far I had worked on many projects with no problems and then a few weeks ago the project crashed non stop. The problem was overcome when I got rid of all MP3s and converted them to RAM. Again this was an issue I didn't have in the past and I don't recall changing anything.
    Now it seems it is impossible for me to export/render out a project into a Quick time file or even AVI. If its quick time I get this message: After Effects unable to render error  an output module failed. The file may be damaged or corrupted -1610153464 and if I am trying to export with AVI I get this message: AE unable to open projects in the background 26:: 142)
    This is happening with different projects.
    I read the forums and heard that the problem may be a Bug with quicktime and H.264? I never had a problem with it before but again when I try to export AVI I get this error message:
    AE unable to open projects in the background
    I have a feeling it is quick time related. I have uninstalled and reinstalled QT but still get the problem. It will open old QT files no problem. I tried to download a bug fix update as one post suggested but I think I have the latest which is why it didn't work.
    This particular project has a couple of quick media H.264 files. Do I need to convert them? Are they the cause for all of this?
    I am sorry I really tried to look for answers in the forums before contacting you here but I cannot find a reason for all this mess, which again only appeared a few weeks ago with no problems for months...if someone can point out an area where I can start looking, I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

    update: I converted all the H.264 footage which were in the project to WMV. And I was able to test export with AVI and it turne dout fine (like 10 seconds). However I still got the Error message: "After Effects unable to render error an output module failed, a filme may be corrupted or damaged.  Error-1610153464 " when I tried to export H.264 QT..
    I don't know what to do now, how can a problem which did not exist suddenly come up. How can I export a QT file? with AVI it will be massive!
    Many thanks
    Amanda

  • How to open an URL and close the URL window, using adobe javascript

    Hi,
      Is it possible to open an URL and close the URL back again(without allowing the user to perform any other operation)? I was able to acheive the opening of the URL, using the app.launchURL("address". true); - But here it lauches in new window, and how do i close the window using the javascript. Is it possible?
    Thanks.

    Hi all
    In addition to what Bobby W - Adobe TS added, you might find
    the following useful as a bypass or workaround to the pesky prompt.
    var pw=window.parent;pw.opener=window.self;window.open("
    http://www.adobe.com");
    pw.close();
    I think this will only work for IE browsers. Actually, I
    think the whole window.close() only works for IE, but could be
    wrong about that.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Captivate 7 Click box and bottons not able to open an URL on a new window

    I inserted a button and a click box in CP7 to open an URL on a new window. The URL opens but in a New Tab. There is an issue that the URL cannot be opened on a NEW WINDOW, I am using IE and Chrome. Do you have any ideas about this issue and how to troubleshoot it? I tried with Safari and it works fine.
    Thanks, Jorge - Adobe Captivate 7 user.

    Hi Jorge
    It's my understanding that all you can do is to configure the link to open in a new "whatever". Whether you get the link opening in a tab or a window is left up to the browser and how the particular user has their browser configured. For example, I use Firefox and when I look at its settings here is what I see.
    I'm guessing there must be a way to force a new window, because I do see new windows appear. But I think in those cases folks are doing it by using JavaScript.
    Cheers... Rick

  • How do I set FF to always open links in a background tab? (as if ctrl-left click is always on)

    I used to have FF set to to this, but since upgrading to a new laptop, I cannot figure out *how* I set it up to open all links as background tabs. I do have TabMix installed, and obv. I can ctrl-click, but I want that to be the default setting.

    Thanks, that was the first thing I did, never worked as I thought it would. I ended up using about:config and finding "browser.tabs.loadDivertedInBackground," switched that to true and things are back to normal.

  • Open Doc URL with parameter in BI 4.0 to open Webi and Crystal report

    Hi Experts ,
    Has any one experienced the open doc URL to open the report and to pass the parameter to the new report .
    I am well aware of the syntax of passing the parameter and use to work perfectly fine with XI 3.1 but its giving me griefs in BI 4.0 environment .
    In the new report i am just trying to pass the Fiscal year as a parameter with the url i can open the report but it does not accept the value being passed with the url so i have to renter the values again .
    I am using BO 4.0 SP2 Patch 6 and trying to intact with crystal and webi report   built on top of BEx query with the fiscal year parameter defined in BEx query level .
    Any comment on this will be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Vibhav

    Hi Nakul,
    I am not using the user response to get the value i tested it in Crystal Enterprise environment i tired passing the following syntax
    http://.../OpenDocument/opendoc/openDocument.jsp?sIDType=CUID&iDocID=...&lsSFiscal%Year%(Single%Value%Entry,%Required)={?0P_FYEAR}
    {?0P_FYEAR}  this is a variable comming form BEx query into Crystal i tired to use it and pass it to other report but i cannot pass it i have tried to pass the hardcoded value still i see the paramater screen and have to enter the value again.
    I am not sure if anyone has tested this functionality in BI 4.0 environment .
    Thanks,

  • Open doc URL: unable to open the report in same window

    Hi
    I'm trying to open a report using open doc url with "swindow=same" but still it opens in a separate window. This happens only when I use JAVA viewer. it works fine in ActiveX and HTML but I want this in JAVA viewer as i'm including this page in my JAVA application and it should open the report in the same window. I tried using "<a>URL</a>" and also target="_self" by HTML interpretation for that object but still the same problem. I'm unable to open the report in the same window by using JAVA viewer for Crystal Reports in info view. Please help me!!!
    Envirorment Details: Crystal Reports 2008 SP3, BOE XI R3 SP3
    regards
    Raghavendra.G

    I have tested that myself and It seems that HTML interpretation does not work with the Java viewer.
    I have also tried using a hyperlink containing javascript
    eg.
    javascript:window.location.href='http://www.sap.com'
    but the java viewer seems always to launch a new window before processing the command.
    I would recommend to open a case by SAP support ( httP://service.sap.com/support )

  • One parameter in open-doc url in webi not required

    Hi,
    I am using SAP BO4.0.I have made one open doc URL which links one report to another.While linking there is one extra parameter which have been added, means the linking in the first report is done for a prompt that is not present in the second report.Still, the linking works properly with the correct parameters being passed and I can navigate from one report to another.So I have come to a conclusion that if the prompt is not present in the second report that prompt is ignored in the first report(on which linking to the second report is present). Has anyone come across such a situation.
    I hope I have made myself clear.

    Hi Riddhi ,
    That is purely depend on requirement.If you want to pass any parameter from master to sub report , then put prompt on Sub report and pass the value from Master.You can ignore the prompts.
    In 4.0 we have option to leave the prompts to "default" in links.

  • Passing report filter function in Open Doc URL

    Hi All,
    I have a requirement that the values entered in the input control on one report the same values should be passed to another report.For this I created a document linking from the first report to the second and passed ReportFilter([name of the object]) for that prompt on which I have applied input control.When we navigate from one report to another via the hyperlink we get a error saying that internet explorer have modified this page to help prevent cross site scripting.We realized that this is due to the ReportFilter function passed by us in the Open Doc linking because when we do not pass ReportFilter() function the link works properly.Any other method to capture the values entered in the Input control.
    I hope I have made myself clear.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    Yes both the reports are based on the same universe.I tried storing the values of the input control to a variable.But that too is giving me that cross site scripting error.I cannot add a second tab to the existing report and want it through OPEN DOC URL itself.
    Please help.

  • Open a URL in the same window

    Hi,
    My objective is to open a URL when i click on a webdynpro iView in the same window.
    I created a outbound plug in the InterfaceViewController.
    And wrote this piece of code in wdDoBeforeNavigation() in Component controller.
    wdThis.wdGetExternalComponentInterfaceViewController().wdFirePlugGoToUrl(Url);
    Where "Url" is a string variable contaning the value.
    But when i run this piece of sode it gives exception
    "Exit-Plug must no be triggered with an URL when running in portal. Use portal navigation instead to navigate to another application!"
    So what should i do solve this problem
    Regards,
    Paresh

    HI,
    Procudere to create the LogoffURL
    In the Application properties add your URL name.
    LogoffURL = http:
    www.google.com
    1.      Define an exit plug in the interface view of your Web Dynpro component:
                                a.      Enter a name and check the checkbox Exit Plug.
                                b.      Enter the name Url for the parameter and select string as the type.
    This parameter is case-sensitive and must be entered exactly this way.
           2.      In your view, define the action Exit and add the event handler onActionExit().
           3.      In the view layout, define a button and bind its onAction event to the Exit action.
           4.      In your view, define the use of the interface view controller of your Web Dynpro component under Properties.
           5.      Insert the following code in this method of the implementation:
    String logoffURL = wdComponentAPI.getApplication().getApplicationInfo().findInApplicationProperties("sap.logoffURL").getValue();
    wdThis.wdGetTimeCompInterfaceViewController().wdFirePlugExit(logoffURL);
    OR Do u need to generate the URL by using the application?
    Thanks,
    Lohi.
