Opening files from the "File" menu fails? Illustrator CC 2014

I can open a couple of files from the "File" menu and then it just stops working. I'm on OS X 10.10.1. I've uninstalled everything and reinstalled and it still does this. If I restart Illustrator it will work for the first couple of files and then it fails again. Has anyone else had this issue? If so, is there a fix for this? I'm really tired of restarting just to open files.

I wonder if it is the preference file then. At first I assumed it was a permission issue, but it sounds like that is not it.
To fix the preference file -
Hold down the ctrl-alt-shift (windows) cmd-opt-shift (mac) keys when starting Illustrator. If you do not see a dialog box asking if you want to reset the preferences let us know.

I've just installed Firefox on my laptop and keep getting the message, "Windows cannot find 'c:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again." I get this message whenever I either try to open it from the Start menu or from the desktop icon. I've never gotten it to work and even uninstalled it and then redownloaded it and still cannot get it to open. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Are you installing from the official site? http://www.mozilla.com/firefox
If you use Windows Explorer (My Computer) to check that path, is the Mozilla Firefox folder there? That is the normal installation location, but I think it's worth checking.
If the folder isn't there or firefox.exe is not in it, I wonder whether some other software might be interfering. You might want to run some supplemental security scans. These two tools are highly regarded:

This is configured in Finder preferences under the General icon. You can make some changes to that behavior.

  • How do I activate an HTML file from the tools menu?

I understand how to add a custom entry to the TestStand 4.0 Sequence editor using the TOOLS->CUSTOMIZE... menu selection, but I want to:
    1) Activate an HTML page when the TOOLS menu option is selected
    and
    2) Provide the directory of the current sequence file to the HTML
    and
    3) Disable this new menu selection if the current sequence file has not been saved.

Thanks for the clarification of your suggestion.  I have created a sequence with a single step: "Call Executable".  In the Executable Pathname field I have specified iexplorer.exe.  When I specify a specific HTML page in the Argument Expression field (i.e., "D:\Test.html") the sequence runs fine and properly activates IE showing the specified HTML file.  If I just specify a directory in the Argument Expression field (i.e., "D:\Foo\Bar") the sequence runs fine and properly activates IE showing the specified directory.
However, when I put RunState.InitialSelection.SelectedFile.Path into the Argument Expression field, it doesn't show the directory.  Do I have to do something special in order to get RunState.InitialSelection.SelectedFile.Path properly interpreted when the sequence is executed?

  • Using a script to rename a file from the file info cart Cut Num (ID)??

    Hi,
Can any of you guys tell me if its poss to do a script to rename a wav with the file info, cart, Cut Num ID field....??? (Cart chunks)
Example file at the moment is called {C5E5F0FE-57D9-4A9A-8DA1-58D1AE7017FD}.wav and I want to grab the info out of the File info, cart section, under Cut Num (ID) which has 9558 in it and rename the file so it is now 9558.wav when it saves or just renames it.I also then want to run the script as i have 6000 plus wav,s to do this too.
    Thanks for any info.

No, scripts in Audition won't let you do this at all. In fact, Audition's scripting function really isn't very file-friendly, relating pretty much just to basic Audition functionality. And there's no way that an Audition script would let you rename a file anyway - they the closest they get to handling any file-related functions is that you can open a designated noise reduction profile - but that's about it.
There's one place that I know of where you might find a utility to do what you want -
    here (try WidgetPro).

  • Ability to download folders/multi files from the file portal.

It would be nice to be able to multi select files and especially be nice to be able to select folders in the file portal to restore the entire tree structure under a folder (like a users profile folder).   Seems like it should be doable.  thanks.

    Dave,
I imagine that one issue that would have to be dealt with would be some kind of protection scheme. I post galleries on PBase, but not my higher-resolution "originals". PBase does, however, have a two-tiered protection scheme, password-protection, and non-public protection, so that if you post high-resolution files you can do so without the fear of people downloading them without some kind of permission. A lot of copyright marks can easily be cropped and, with a high enough resolution file, can be used without the info for print or whatever.
Anyway, you might want to include some kind of protection with the ability to download high-res files.

  • I can't open tabs from the file menu or + sign. I have often used this feature. It just stopped today. Why?

Up until today, I could use my *new tab* feature. Suddenly, tonight it won't open a new tab.
    What could have happened?

I don't use the Ask Toolbar, but earlier today (or yesterday) it was *on* and de-selected it. What else do I have to do to *disable* it?
Also, when I go to safe mode in Firefox, the new tab feature works.

Is this what you downloaded: iTunes 10.7?
When the update fails what if any error report do you get, specifically? Please do this before trying again:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.

  • The problem i am having is when i go to open a file from the menu bar that as "FILE" is blackcolor

the problem i am having is when i go to open a file from the menu bar that as "FILE" is all black in color and i cant see what i'm picking how do i change that so i can see what i'm picking

Is that Photoshop?  Depending on the version you could try to change the Color Theme (Edit | Preferences | General | Appearance).
If that does not help, you may have a better chance to get a useful answer if you ask in the Photoshop or Photoshop Elements forum.

  • When I open Add-ons, from the Tools menu, I get an unresponsive script error: file:///C:/Program%20Files/Mozilla%20Firefox/components/nsExtensionManager.js:623.

When I try to click on Add-ons, from the Tools menu, I get this error message of an unresponsive script: file:///C:/Program%20Files/Mozilla%20Firefox/components/nsExtensionManager.js:623. This is to say the least about the unresponsive script errors at other times. However, at all times, it won't go away - even by clicking on the 'stop script' option; even with checking the 'don't ask again' option. I've cleared the cookies and history as best I could, but it appears that there is some sort of conflict. How can I resolve this? Kevin: [email protected] Thank you.

This is typically caused by a problem with the Personas Plus 1.6 add-on and it conflicting with the Google toolbar.
Try disabling the Personas Plus add-on. To do this open the add-ons manager by selecting the Tools menu, then Add-ons. In the list of installed extensions click on Personas Plus, then click on either disable or uninstall.
If you can not access the add-ons manager, follow the instructions in the [[safe mode]] article to start Firefox in safe mode. You should then be able to disable or uninstall Personas Plus. You can find more information on this procedure in the [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] article.

All Office applications will also try to open a temporary work file in the same location as the source file. This implies the source file directory also needs to be writable for this temporary file. Since the default HFS+ driver provides only read-only access, such temporary files will fail to open, and will cause the application to fail.
As a test copy the file you want to edit, say an Excel spreadsheet from the OSX file system to the C: drive on the Windows side and try to open it. If you look in this directory, you should see two files, the source and a temporary file. You may have to force the temporary file to be opened on a read-write file system, by manipulating the folder for temporary files.
