Opening Indesign document in cs4

created document in Indesign cs3.0.1 and trying to open it in cs4, but shuts down indesign cs4 every time I try to open it. I need to work in cs4 on this project. Any suggestions on how to open the document without Indesign shutting down? The document is 57 mg in size and has 72 pages.

Error messages? Crash reports? OS?
Can you export .inx from the original and open that?

    //Schedule the command to show the layout window of original document in CS3
    InterfacePtr<ICommand> showHideCmd (CmdUtils::CreateCommand( kShowHideWinCmdBoss ));
    InterfacePtr<ICloseWinCmdData > closeWinCmdData (showHideCmd, IID_ICLOSEWINCMDDATA);

    InterfacePtr<IIntData> iIntData (showHideCmd, IID_IINTDATA);
    iIntData->Set( 0 );                                       // What is the parameter that should be passed in the set function. 0 is not working
    ErrorCode result = CmdUtils::ProcessCommand( showHideCmd );
    Hide/show document in cs4 is not working

    ErrorCode ShowHideDocument(IDocumentPresentation*docWindow, int32 nShowHide)

    do
      InterfacePtr<IControlView> controlView (docWindow, UseDefaultIID());

  • I can't open CS5 documents in CS4

    I can't open CS5 documents in CS4. I know I need to update my plugins, but when I go to updates it says there are none. I have a hardcopy of CS4, is there a way to download CS4 electronically so I can receive all the updates I need? I have no idea how to do this manually . . . or maybe I just need to upgrade to CS5?

    Or else you need to update CS4 to the 6.0.6 patch...

  • Apple mac cannot open InDesign document I sent

    Hi, A friend created an InDesign document on an Apple Mac, sent it to me. I opened it on a PC running InDesign (64 bit) V9.0.  I was able to make a lot of changes. When I sent the document back they were unable to open it. I don't understand how that is possible. Isn't the indd format defined such that both PC's and Mac's can work with the documents. Can anyone help?
    Many thanks
    Kind regards
    Dennis

    It almost surely means that they don't have InDesign CC 9.0 (your version). They have an earlier version. Save it as an INDL file.

  • I can open my document in cs4 that was saved previously but it won't let me make any changes

    I created a document on cs4 on one computer that I have at home and when I went to work and opened it up on that computer to make edits it will let me open it up but I can't make any changes. any suggestions?

    What happens when you try? Sounds at the moment like either things are locked or you did all the layout on the master page.

  • Can't open Indesign documents straight away

    "" could not be found. Do you want to postpone its recovery?
    I get this everytime I try to open any Indesign document. How do I fix it?

    Try going to the preferences and go to File Handling - there's a recovery folder listed there.
    Go to that folder on your hard drive - and make sure you have Show Hidden Fields turned on.
    Are there any files in that folder? If so - delete them.
    You could also try changing the recovery folder location.

  • Open Indesign CS5 In CS4

    I need open an InDesign CS5 document in InDesign CS4, I am advised to export the document from CS5 as InDesign Markup Language (IDML),
    then download the IDML plug-in from the Adobe website: Choose Support > Updates in the Adobe website, and go to the InDesign Downloads page.
    For all my efforts I cannot find this plug-in...can anyone send me a link.
    Thanks
    Steve

    You don't need to download a plugin. You need to update CS4 to version 6.0.5 ot 6.0.6. in order to accurately read the .idml genereated from CS5.
    Don't expect an exact match. Unsupported new features from CS5, like multiple page sizes or span/split columns will be lost, and the text will probably flow a bit differntly due to differences in the type engines between versions, so there may be changes in paragraph line counts and where text breaks across columns or pages, which can result in oversets or other problems in long docs.

  • Problem opening indesign document (database publishing?)

    Hello
    I need help urgently from someone who has experience with InDesign files that refuse to open.
    My client has created 2 documents, and they have no problem opening it. ~They tell me it is made with InDesign CS2. I have tried to open it with CS/CS2/CS3 and even an .inx version of the file will not open.
    Error message is: < Cannot open the file "xxxx.indd". Adobe InDesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing, or the file may be op in another application.>
    The file is filled with txt file from a database, that needs to be replaced by me.
    My client has no extra plugins installed, I have asked to do a 3rd party check, but list is empty.
    Help, what can I do. I have 2 files that need to be worked in quickly. Anyone has experience by peeking into the file with a hex editor or text wrangler to see what is going on? I can send 1 file via e-mail (1.5 MB size)
    Thanks,
    Aram de Glas

    thanks for all who have suggested solutions. I have solved it in the mean time, by removing all pages except the master pages, and had it re-saved. So the conclusion is that there was something on one of the pages that made it impossible to open. My bet is a faulty image or logo

  • Opening CS6 documents in CS4

    Hello,
    When I create a psd in CS6, and then open it in CS4, I get this error:
    This document contains unknown data which will be discarded to keep layers editable. To preserve the original appearance instead, choose Flatten to load composite data as a flattened image.
    And then I have the options to Flatten or Keep Layers. If I Keep Layers, things seem OK, but I'm wondering what data is being lost. I'm asking this question because I'd like to begin working in CS6, but I want to make sure anything I do in CS6 will still be editable in CS4 in case I don't buy CS6 right away when the beta trial period is over.
    Thanks,
    Erik

    That isn't an error, just a warning that means what it says.
    And you'll get that warning whenever you use new features in a document and try to open it in an older version.
    If you use features new to CS6, they may not be editable in CS4, and won't always have the same appearance - hence the warning.

  • Unable to open InDesign documents after updating to InDesign 2014

    Hi
    Just recently updated to InDesign 2014 everything was working fine before the update but now I am unable to open some InDesign from a network location. It just shows a general error "Cannot open "xxxx.indd".
    I have tried removing all InDesign app and reinstalled InDesign 2014 but same error appears.
    Strange thing is if I do not tried to open the file and copy the file locally it will open but if you attempt to open the file from network location, get the error then I can not copy the file locally.
    Abit lost with this one wish someone can shed some light.
    Regards

    Are you using SMB to connect? There are a number of reports of different types of problems with CC 2014 and the SMB protocol on Mac.

  • Having trouble opening a document in CS4 that was created in CS6.

    I am getting a missing plug in error.  SHAREDCONTENT.RPLN.    Where and how do I get this plug in to fix this problem?
    Thanks.

    Ask in the ID forum. You may simply be using a feature that didn't exist in CS4 and thus is not compatible.

  • Problems with open an Indesign-Document over Network

    Hallo,
    we have a specialized problem with opening indesign-documents over network. Our users works with windows-pc (windows7) and adobe CS5 and CS6 and they will use there documents which are on our macserver 4.0 which works on OS X 10.10.2.
    Sometimes the usurers become this Message
    Wouldn't work indesign proberly on windows with documents which are on a macserver?
    Please help me.
    best regards
    chris mueller

    @Naga Sai J – you cannot open an InDesign CS4 file in the previous version.
    But you can export an exchange file format for InDesign CS3.
    Go to File/Export and chose INX for export: "InDesign CS3 Interchange-Format (INX)"
    That .inx file could be opened with InDesign CS3.
    After opening the .inx file, examine it well!
    Some things might have changed (things regarding to newer or changed features from InDesign CS4).

  • CS3:How to link a file to a InDesign document?

    Hello all,<br /><br />I looked at in the LinkWatcher sample code to get an idea how to link a file to a document, I came up with the code below, the last line of code needs pageitemUID instead of pageUID which I  used it here:<br /><br />IDFile outFile = Utils<ImyUtils>()->getMyFile(); // it reads the file <br />InterfacePtr<IDataLinkHelper> dataLinkHelper(::CreateObject2<IDataLinkHelper>(kDataLinkHelperBoss)); <br />InterfacePtr<IDataLink>      dataLinkNew(dataLinkHelper->CreateDataLink(outFile)); <br /><br />IDocument* theFrontDoc = Utils<ILayoutUIUtils>()->GetFrontDocument();<br />IDataBase* database = ::GetDataBase(theFrontDoc); <br /><br />InterfacePtr<IDocument> piDoc(theFrontDoc, UseDefaultIID()); <br /><br />InterfacePtr<IPageList> pageList(piDoc, UseDefaultIID()); <br />     <br />UID pageUID(kInvalidUID);<br /><br />if (pageList->GetPageCount() >  0)<br /> {<br />     pageUID = pageList->GetNthPageUID(0);<br />}<br />// I try to link the file to the front document, although it say pageitemUID, as a second //parameter, but I don't want to link the file to a particular page item. is this a right thing to do?<br /><br />int32 result = dataLinkHelper->AddDataLink(database,pageUID, dataLinkNew); <br /><br />as I execute the code it doesn't add the file in  Link palette in CS3, but when I pass a UID of one page item such as text frame, it will add the name of file to link palette with a "1" comes to  end of row that shows how many times this file was included in the frame. but in case I have not a page item can I use the pageUID instead ?<br /><br />Thanks In Advance,<br />Mor

    Lee,
    Sorry I think I didn't use the right terminology, somehow I want to include/link the file (not with menu item 'place') programmatically in my current open Indesign document, then I expect to see the filename in Link palette. I can do this with linking to a page item in doc but I don't want to assign it to a particular page item, rather I want to assign it to doc. Is any approach to do it?
    Thanks again,
    Mor

  • CS3:Problem in generating .ps file for an indesign document.

    Hello,
    I have ported a plug-in built for InDesign server CS2 to CS3.
    Generating ".ps" file is one of the functionality of my plug-in.
    But for the given document InDesign CS3 server Debug generated the following asserts in the server log.
    [21/05/2008 22:21:50] ~InstanceList(): 1 outstanding references to UID 2 (Class kRIDXBoss).
    [21/05/2008 22:21:50] ~InstanceList(): 1 outstanding references to UID 216 (Class kAssignmentBoss).
    [21/05/2008 22:21:50] ~InstanceList(): 1 outstanding references to UID 5 (Class kContentMgrBoss).
    [21/05/2008 22:21:50] ~InstanceList(): 1 outstanding references to UID 187 (Class kAssignmentBoss).
    [21/05/2008 22:21:50] ~InstanceList(): 1 outstanding references to UID 218 (Class kAssignedStoryBoss).
    [21/05/2008 22:21:50] ~InstanceList(): 1 outstanding references to UID 1 (Class kDocBoss).
    I have debugged the code and found that the following API is causing these asserts.
    IPrintSetupProvider::StartPrintPub( bool16 & bReturn,
    IDocument * iDoc,
    UIDRef & styleUIDRef,
    IPrintCmdData::PrintUIOptions & printPubUIOpt,
    IInkList * iInkList,
    ITrapStyleListMgr * iTrapListMgr
    when i shutdown the InDesign server got crashed.
    Can any one of you describe in detail the functionality of this API.
    I will be thankful if any one you can give some idea on how to resolve this issue.
    Thanks,
    sambolus.
