Opening parts of a movie in a layer outside the stage

Hi all,
I hope I'm on the right forum here.
I’m making a banner with a stage that is 220px x 600px and that has to be put in a sidebar, next to the content of the website. In the banner i want to include a slider that opens text fields on certain points. Those text layers have to open on top of the content of the website (outside of the 220x600-stage)
Can anyone tell me where I might find information on how to do this? (If it is possible at all)

If you have content that you need displaying off to the side, then you need to make the stage large enough to include that content.

Inside that mc, the code that you have below “//Code in
Button”, it is typically recommended that you don’t
reference other movieclips by using ‘_levelX’. Use a
relative path, such as ‘this._parent” or
“this._parent._parent” depending on how many movieclips
are nested into it. Also note, when you reference a movieclip from
inside an eventHandler (onPress, onRelease, onEnterFrame, etc.) you
are already within an object. So to reference something on the same
tier you should use ‘this._parent’. Once you find the
correct tier by using the code I mentioned in the last sentence,
you then need to attach the instance name of the movieclip you are
trying to access (that is if you are trying to access a movieclip).
For an example, ‘this._parent.currentguy’.
I hope this helps, I understand it may be hard to grasp
however give it a shot and post back.

Open HTML page from the stage

How can I open a HTML page by pressing a button on the stage?
I've created a rollover button and I'm trying to make it open
an existing html page from the local disk (not an internet URL).
But I can't make it open with Lingo or behaviour.
Please help.

2 Part Question : Stop movie animation/Load movie animation

Okay I am a VBA guy and taking on a project in Flash. So 72
hours into it I am going nuts on a simple problem = P. I read a
tutorial from

about how to make animated buttons. All went well, I was able to DL
the FLA and really see the inner workings. However. When I mouse
over I want the move to play but not loop. I can't get it to stop.
I want my button to go from black to alpha 20% and stay on mouse
out, 20% alpha - black. That code on the site makes it loop, which
is very unappealing. (Also in the FLA they use grouped graphics,
what the advantage to that?)
So second part. In my button I would like the "down" to
enable another .swf to open and play on the other half of my page
setup. Am I coding onpress() on the down part of the button or
elsewhere in the FLA.
I wanted to attack my fla file but i guess you can't.
regardless if ppl need to see more of what I am doing then I can
host it on my site. I figured this is pretty basic stuff that once
I know I will get it.

like i said, completely take out your button now.. then place
a black rectangle on stage with whatever text you want the button
to say on top of it, then select both and create new Movie Clip..
on frame 1 insert stop();.. on frame lets say 10 (can be whatever)
make keyframe, and make the the assets 20% alpha, also put a
stop(); action on the frame..
now back to the main timeline, click your new Movie Clip,
give it instance name of whatever ex: my_mc..
now place this code on the main time line on a keyframe, not
on the movie clip, on a keyframe, my guess is it will be frame one.

Bottom door only opens part way

Just installed Pioneer DVR 118LBK in bottom slot (2nd drive). Drive works OK but door only opens part way, thus blocking the tray from coming out. You can hear the tray trying to open. If hold door down, after opened part way, then tray will open OK, after telling it to close and then open again (Option:Eject keys). Removed the optical drive carrier and can move door down with ease. Does not appear to be hanging. Can't see any interference. Any ideas appreciated. Thanks.

About the only other thing to do is take the drives out again, set them side by side and see if there is a difference in the height of the tray, height of the mounting screw holes, etc...
Could just be a bad drive. I just installed a pair of 117D's, had no issues. Don't know if they changed a height or mounting point on the 118D. They may wind up screwing a lot of users up! I'm sure there is some sort of spec they have to follow for stuff like that however.

Autoplay movie in hidden layer

My students are creating portfolios in Dreamweaver, and one
student has a rollover, that when clicked, brings up a hidden layer
in which he wants a QT movie to play. He set the autostart
attribute to false, since the movie was playing when the page
loaded, but now he can't get it to autoplay when the layer loads.
Any suggestions?

Hi Robin,
Except for the sarcasm, I do agree with Alan and Bonnie
- Don't see a hidden layer and the animation plays as soon as
you open the page.
If you try the flash forums, they may have some advanced
action scripting which would maybe let you achieve what you want -
the movie should play only when the layer is visible.
In my opinion, some user interaction or external trigger
would be required with the flash movie (not the layer/html content)
to trigger a change - make the movie stop or make it play.
A suggestion for you-
You need to apply the fix for active content so the flash
movie doesn't show an alert "click to activate and use this
control". Incase you're using dreamweaver8, if you update to 8.0.2,
the fix comes with the update. The update is available on the Adobe
site.

Retouch part of a movie in motion 5 possible?

must retouch part of a movie, similiar like Photoshop for images, is that possible with motion 5? Furthermore the scenes have little movement. Or might another software better?

How do I move a pattern layer independent of its vector mask?

I've created a pattern fill layer and assigned a vector mask to it. How do I move the pattern around without affecting the mask? I realize if I want to rotate the pattern I'd need to convert it to a smart object, but if I only need to adjust the pattern location there must be some way to do that without moving the vector mask along with it. A traditional layer shows the vector and raster mask layer with a lock icon, but fill pattern layers are different for some reason. Can someone "fill" me in?

That is not what your showing above in red above your showing a shape layer in CS6 a pattern fill layer with a vector mask is a cs6 shape layer. Even the icon on the layer's content in the layers palette shows its a shape layer. You can edit the vector mask you can not unlink it. For its a cs6 shape layer. As you noted you can first convert pattern fill layer into a smart object layer. It then acts like a normal pixel layer with an associated transform to the canvas size. Your no longer dealing with a pattern fill layer. When you rotate it you will have the same problem with the layers corners areas. CS6 changed shape layers design they have more options then prior versions of Photoshop and prior versions of Photoshop can not handle CS6 shape layers that used cs6 shape options like stroke, line type, and pattern fills.

Painting on a layer but the paint is not opaque..it is pale and transparent. How can I get paint to be more intense and opaque to cover part of the picture? I have a MAC and updated Photoshop CC.

If you are painting on a Layer, check the Opacity and Blend mode in the Layers Panel. Blend Mode: Normal Opacity and Fill: 100%

Opening a new file in photoshopcc and the file name is displayed but no white working canvas. you can see it as a layer in the layers panel and if i draw on the grey area i can see int on the layer but not on the main screen.

Opening a new tab in Firefox 16.0.1 the focus is on the address bar but then moves to the search field

When I open a new tab in Firefox 16.0.1 the focus is on the address bar for a second or so then the focus moves to the search input field. If I start typing something the first character fills in the address bar then the rest is typed into the search field.
How do I get the focus to remain in the address bar as per previous versions please?

Gatekeeper failure: Application is damaged and can't be opened. You should move it to the Trash

I have installed Eve online.
With the first try to start it I received message "Eve Online is damaged and can’t be opened. You should move it to the Trash".
I know my Gatekeeper may protect me from apps downloaded from internet so I tried open Eve online application with Ctrl also. I tried open it using context menu also.
Everything ended with same message = Damaged move to Trash.
Re-download and reinstall resulted in the same behavior (almost 8GB download).
However I found out later on that disabling Gatekeeper by selecting "Allow applications downloaded from: Anywhere" is the only way how to solve it.
When Gatekeeper is off application works without any problem.
So my question is: Is this behavior of Gatekeeper correct?
I do not think so. Gatekeeper should stop mark applications as broken if they are not. It can be marked as dangerous. It can be marked as Blocked. But it should say always: Gatekeeper marked it as dangerous because ... Gatekeeper blocked it from start because ....
Am I right? Should I write a bug report for this or there is something I missed?

To be honest I checked it and I found their suggestion to switch off Gatekeeper.
However I expected I can avoid Gatekeeper using Ctrl or starting application from context menu because I prefer to keep Gatekeeper switched on for regular work.
I know now, that I cannot. The only way is to disable Gatekeeper generally.
But the question is: Do you think that message "Application is broken..." is valid for case when Application is evaluated by gatekeeper as potentially dangerous? Based on this experience I see it wrong. Application is working ok and Gatekeeper marks it as broken.

[Photoshop CC 2014] Click&hold-move-release doesn't work when adding adjustment layer from the layer panel

When selecting a menu item I used to click the left mouse button and hold it down, move the pointer to the desired menu item and release the mouse button. Everything works fine in the mine menu, but there's a problem when adding new adjustment layer from the layer panel: when I release the button nothing happens, I have to press the button again. In previous PS version it worked fine. How can I fix this?

I don't think that is user fixable, meaning you'll have to wait till adobe fixes it with an update.
