Opening up a new tab in Firefox causes it to open with a Bing search box but I don't have Bing as a toolbar, extension, plug-in or default search engine.

I am using Firefox 6.0 with Win 7.After upgrading from Vista to W7 and updating my various programs and drivers I found Bing set as my homepage and default search engine. I changed them both and they are okay now, but new tabs open with a Bing search box. I don't have a Bing toolbar, plug-in or extension, and Bing is no longer my default search engine or homepage. I do have the MS Office Live plug-in. I would like to have my new tabs open up blank.

Thanks for the reply; couldn't get back to you sooner. Here they are just as copied:

  • How do I set a specific page to open when I open a new tab in Firefox? I can open the page when initially opening Firefox, but not for subsequent tabs/pages.

How do I set a specific page to open when I open a new tab in Firefox? I can open the page when initially opening Firefox, but not for subsequent tabs/pages.

You can use an extension to set which page to open in a new tab:
    *NewTabURL : https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/newtaburl/
    *My Homepage: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/my-homepage/

  • When I open the new tab in firefox , muliple window automatically opened with. also the page did not contain all feature of the site , some panels not displayed

Problem No. 1 //// when I google the word (boy) as example >>>>> then select image >>>>> right click on any image and choose (open in an new tab) >>>>>> new tab opened but the image not appear, instead a black window appear .
Problem No. 2 //// in any windows >>> if I choose the link >>> the link did not open until the (new window opened and my antivirus warm me that there is a dangerous thread must remove or blocked)

If your security software is blocking images then you need to check the settings there or contact its website for support.
If images are missing then check that you do not block images from some domains.
*Tap the Alt key or press F10 to show the Menu bar.
Check the permissions for the domain in the currently selected tab in "Tools > Page Info > Permissions"
Check "Tools > Page Info > Media" for blocked images
*Select the first image link and use the cursor Down key to scroll through the list.
*If an image in the list is grayed and "<i>Block Images from...</i>" has a checkmark then remove this checkmark to unblock images from this domain.
Make sure that you do not block (third-party) images, the <b>permissions.default.image</b> pref on the <b>about:config</b> page should be 1.
Make sure that you haven't enabled a High Contrast theme in the Windows/Mac Accessibility settings.
Make sure that you allow pages to choose their own colors.
*Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Colors : [X] "Allow pages to choose their own colors, instead of my selections above"
Note that these settings affect background images.

There are extensions like Adblock Plus (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) and security software (firewall, anti-virus) that can block images and other content.

  • When i open a new tab in Firefox, the yahoo website will open automatically in this tab. How can i prevent any website from opening in my new tabs? I just want to open an empty tab.

You click on new tab, a new tab opens, but the tab is opened as the yahoo homepage.
I accidentally downloaded the yahoo toolbar as malware the other day. This toolbar is really imposible to remove. It's not in the sofware add/remove menu, i've tried with several anti-malware sofware, they didn't succeed.
Now, i already made the toolbar invisible, but it still has a place in the firefox menu at the top of the browser, and like i said, it keeps opening itself in a new tab.

A new tab opens by default as a blank tab (about:blank).
If that isn't the case then an extension has changed that behavior.

  • Firefox download has a circle with line through it, and says I don't have the right "architecture", but previous Firefox worked fine so HELP!

Tried to download Firefox 4.0. Window where I drag icon to applications folder has a line and a circle over the Firefox. when I attempt to drag it to the folder, it says there is a newer version already there and do I want to replace it. When I replaced it with your new download a window came up that said I don't have the proper architecture to run this. I am using Mac 10.5.8. Please fix this! I'm in the middle of planning an art exhibit and need my Firefox!!!!

Firefox 4 requires an Intel Mac. You can get Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
There is a third party version of Firefox that runs on OS X 10.4/10.5 and PPC Macs, for details see http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox

  • I bought a computer with Photoshop CS6 already installed, but I don't have the serial number - can I still transfer this software to a new computer?

I currently have a MackBook with Photoshop CS6 installed. This came with the laptop when I bought it on eBay, therefore, I don't have the serial number for the software. Can I still transfer the Photoshop CS6 from this laptop onto a new one?
    Thanks
    Jack

    No.
Whoever sold you the laptop should have removed the software first, or gone through the proper process to transfer the license to you. Chances are that they used it to obtain an upgrade, in which case it would not even to eligible to be transferred.

  • Ok - suddenly my facebook is opening zillions of new tabs in firefox - doesn't do it in -gag - explorer. I'm running windows 7 - don't know what I changed or did to cause this....just want it to STOP. HELP!

When I open Facebook on my laptop - I suddenly get tab after tab of facebook opening .... no reason - no changes that I know of .... have tried several things with no positive results.
    I'm running windows 7.

Thank you for the reply - I did turn off the the facebook tool bar and reset everything in firefox to the default or 'ask me' mode. I was blaming apple, but you are probably correct about the tool bar - I don't think it is supported in my version of Firefox and had disappeared from sight...I didn't realize it was still there until I started going through all my options. Now I know how to stop it if it happens again.
    Thank you again.
    Pam

  • When I open up a new tab on firefox, the bar shows that the tab is there, but when I click on it, it is the same page as what I have before. When I try to change the page on the "new tab" the original tab changes. Why does this happen and how do I fix it?

This problem is even occuring as I type this information. I tried to click a "show details" button and it didn't work. The tab "opened" but I couldn't get the page to switch to the tab after clicking on it.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    * https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    * Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
In Firefox 4 you can use one of these to start in <u>[[Safe mode]]</u>:
    * Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
    * Hold down the Shift key while double clicking the Firefox desktop shortcut (Windows)

  • I can't open orkut's new look in firefox 4.0b5. only open old orkut. why this happen ?

hi I am from india. when i use orkut it's open old look. and my new orkut has been change in firefox. firefox is not supporting new orkut look. so pls help me

If Firefox 4.0 b5 the user agent is simplified to avoid exposing too much private data.<br />
It is possible that that change confuses the server and makes it think that the new version isn't supported.
    Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:2.0b5) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0b5
    Compare that to Firefox 3.6.8:
    Mozilla/5.0 (Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.8) Gecko/20100722 Firefox/3.6.8

  • I have a code that work but it opens in a new tab. I would like it open in a new window. a href="#" onClick="window.open('Basic.html', 'newWnd','Left=5,Top=5,height=500,width=700,toolbar=0,status=0,scrollbars=0,resizable=0');" OpenNewWindow.html /a

I am trying to have a smaller window to open. You can see from the script that this window has a size. Which for me makes sense when someone needs to fill up a form. I do not want repeat do not want a pop up window.

Could you share a link to the page?
Seeing it in context and in our browsers is much easier to debug.
If not, make sure to run the validator here The W3C Markup Validation Service and clear out any problems. HTML errors, especially structural ones, will cause all kinds of display problems in various browsers/versions/platforms.

  • Each time I click on a link it opens in a new tab. I want it to open in the same tab. How do I change this?

I am using a Mac computer. I am using Firefox 6.0.2

  • How do i access iTunes store through firefox? RIght now it wants to use Interent Explore, but i don't have that working on my computer.

I have itunes on my computer and want to have it use Firefox to access iTunes store.

Try going to settings and then iTunes and App Store and logging out and log back in.  Make sure the music app is closed while doing this and then open it back up after logging back in and see if the icon has returned.
I'm not sure what you mean, precisely - I opened settings, then I opened "itunes store", then opened "app store", but not sure how to log out, and back in on the phone?  I closed them all down again, but still no radio icon, and when I'm in the store and tap the prompt "go to itunes radio" it just brings me to my albums list on the phone.  Strange.
Does this make sense?  I mean, am I explaining things clearly?
I appreciate the help, this is a pain in the arse.

  • Just installed Firefox V8; there's supposed to be a bookmarks button but I don't have one!

I have the forward/back arrows, the URL box, a Google search box, the Adblock plus button and the home button. And nothing more...Where is the advertised Bookmarks button? Or how can I create it myself?

Thanks! I poked around a bit and found how to add it myself actually before I got your answer...but I had put it on the main toolbar but when I looked at the screens on the link you sent me, I saw that the button was on the bookmarks bar itself and I liked that place much better. So thanks for that too!
