  • How to open a .dat file

How do I open a .dat file created by Adobe in Windows 7 (this file was downloaded from ceac website). I tried changing extension to PDF and unchecking "file extension under folder option) When I use Adobe Acrobat XI or Reader, it won't open

Hm, Since you can't simply download that document (and I'm not going to go through the process of applying for one), I'd recomend that you try downloading it again, maybe there was an error in how it was downloaded. You might also need to reach out to the DOS support staff to see if there is something that is being missed in the download process of your application.
Their online FAQ doesn't seem to offer much insight (maybe see if you can select what file type it saves as):
How do I save my DS-160 application to my computer hard drive or a disk?
Saving to a hard drive or disk will allow you to access your application after 30 days. To permanently save your application to your computer hard drive or a disk, select the “Save Application to File” button. Then, click the “Save” button on the File Download window. Identify a place on your computer to save the application, browse to that location, and click the “Save” button on the “Save As” window. The system will download your application to the specified location. Once the download is complete, you can click “Close” to return to the live application on our website. Note: Applications saved to the hard drive of a public or shared computer or memory device could likely be accessed by anyone else who uses the computer or device after you.

  • Opening bank data files in a PDF format not working, the file defaults to Quicktime and only displays one page.

Opening bank data files, while logged into the bank or brokerage sites, by clicking on the PDF or file name icon, is supposed to open in PDF format but instead opens only a single page in Quicktime. This also happened several years ago in Leopard and required the removal of Quicktimeplugin.plugin. I have tried doing that in Lion with no success. Any thoughts?

    Gerry Brown wrote:
"from that page" does not make sense.
The file exists in a folder on your machine, correct?
If not, you need to download the file from your bank. Or use "Save as" in the browser.
No the file is on the Webpage he is visiting.
@ OP Right click on it and select Save File As. then save it to your HDD. Then open it.

  • Erasing a config and vlan.dat file in Catalyst 4507R Switch

    Hi,
I am unable to erase the configuration from Catalyst 4507R Switch. When i do "write erase" and reload the switch, the configuration still remains on the switch.
    Switch1#write erase
Erasing the nvram filesystem will remove all configuration files! Continue? [confirm]
    [OK]
    Erase of nvram: complete
    mp024-dc-nr00#sh start
    startup-config is not present
After this i did reload and configuration still didn't get removed.
    I  tried
    erase /all nvram:
    reload
    This also didn't help.
    I also tried:
    erase /all non-default
    reload
    This also didn't help.
Can anyone suggest how to erase the config on Catalyst 4507R Switch.
    Thanks,

    Hi Saroj,
do you see the below symtoms:
    Cat4500# write erase
Erasing the nvram filesystem will remove all files! Continue? [confirm]y[OK]
    Erase of nvram: complete
    Cat4500# reload
System configuration has been modified. Save? [yes/no]: n
!--- Do not save the configuration at this prompt. Otherwise, the switch
!--- reloads with the current running configuration and does not reset to default.
    Proceed with reload? [confirm]y
    2w0d: %SYS-5-RELOAD: Reload requested
To erase the vlan.dat file on the 6500/6000 switches, issue the erase const_nvram: command. On the 4500/4000 switches, issue the erase cat4000_flash: command. On the fixed configuration switches, issue the delete flash:vlan.dat command.

  • Klammer - no permission to open winmail.dat files

Up to now I have been able to open Winmail.dat files without a problem. Suddenly I get the response "Not permitted to open the file"; When I check the file in Finder I have the rights to read and wright. Here I am stuck. Would appreciate some advice.

Try enolsoft winmail viewer. It works well for me and supports Mavericks. You can find it from Mac App Store.

  • How can I import the vlan.dat file to flash?

I have copied the config and vlan.dat files via tftp to the computer and want to import them to a replacement switch. Both switches are 2960 model. I get the config over fine but not sure how to get the vlan.dat file to the flash.

    Hi Jerry,
    Please try below command.
    copy tftp://x.x.x.x/vlan.dat flash:
Where x,x,x,x is the tftp ip address.
    Hope this helps.

  • Opening Winmail.dat files in Mail on iPad (Ms Windows Word, Excel, Ppt)

I thought I'd share my findings on what to do if your Word, Excel, Powerpoint attachments come into your Mail as winmail.dat files. In my experience I downloaded the following Apps:
      Pages
      Numbers
      DocsToGo
    WinMailViewer
      Letter Opener
To open the winmail.dat file hold the icon until asked how you want to open the file: WinMailViewer or Letter Opener (assuming you've previously downloaded both Apps).
WinMailViewer is exactly what it says ... a 'viewer' of the file.  The file is sent to the relevant App which you subsequently open to see a list of the files.
Letter Opener will bring up the attachment(s) in a separate window and gives you choices on which App you'd like to use to open or view the file with. Depending on what Apps you've previously downloaded:
For Excel it might list: Quick Look, DocsToGo, Csv File Editor, PDFReaderLite
For Word, it might list: Pages, DocsToGo, PDFReaderLite
DocsToGo is an excellent option for working on Word, Excel files (N.B. If you have a big Excel file with 'frozen' window panes, I recommend clicking on the 4th tool (bottom toolbar) UnFreezing the panes while you work or move around the file as I haven't figured how to work with it on!!)
Pages is the best option to use for editing Word files.
Numbers is probably the best option to use for editing Excel files.
Csv File Editor is another Excel editing option.
    I hope that helps.

I should further say the files I sent are .xlsx and .docx files.  They look fine my end and I send such files all the time without problems.
However, I did try to cheat by going in via the Safari onto my 'live' online email account and the Safari automatically transfers them to winmail.dat files with the same result.
Ahh - have just been on using my PC this time and you are right, it seems that the service provider does the transfer and then when my outlook opens the file (on the PC), it must reconvert to .xlsx etc again.
    Very strange.
Ergo, I guess the question should be how I open wimail.dat files ??

  • Open winmail.dat files?

Anyone know how to open winmail.dat files?  I've been getting email attachments which I can't open on my MBP.

    Hi ,
The person that is sending you emails, has chosen in Outlook, to use the RTF format, for emailing and or specifically for emailing you. Perhaps this is default Outlook behavior at times.
This results in the winmail.dat file, which is the RTF format, of the attachments that were intended for you.
If the user would configure Outlook, to use the HTML (web)  format, for emails, then you would receive the attachments as intended. As well as anybody else.
Apple mail and other mail systems, do not understand the RTF (rich text) format, and probably have to pay Microsoft licensing fees, to be able to use this format.
The options, for setting this in Outlook, differ for different versions of Outlook, but are found generally under
Tools > Address book, for setting a specific person to , use HTML format, and not RTF format, that persons email.
Also, under "Tools" > "Options", > "Mail format", for setting that all emails, will use the HTML format, instead of the RTF format.

  • Can vlan.dat file be collected using SCP on LMS 4.2 ?

Hello, I need help regarding vlan.dat file fetch.
I'm using Cisco Prime 4.2 and VLAN fetch for all devices is currently going over TFTP. Devices managed by LMS are 2960, 4500, 6500 series. All devices are using SSH v2. ACS server is configured on all devices and SSH credentials are OK.
This is the error meessage I get when i select SCP: "SCP user credentials not available. Configure the SCP user credentials and try again Action: Check if protocol is supported by device and required device package is installed."
Is it possible to use SCP as VLAN fetch protocol? How to configure this on a devices and how to enter SCP credentials in LMS?
    Thanks.

I don't think anything other than tftp is supported as the transport protocol for actual transfer of the vlan.dat file from the switches by LMS.
See this post where Joe C. describes how LMS logs into the target device (via telnet or ssh) and then transfers the files back to itself using tftp. That's about 2-1/2 years old but matches what's described in the current LMS Configuration Management user guide, quoted here:
"VLAN — Count of the successful VLAN configuration fetches for each protocol. This configuration fetch is supported by only Telnet and SSH protocols."
You also have the option (as of LMS 4.2) of turning off vlan.dat collection since it is often of limited utility. Please refer to this thread for details.

  • I need to open a DAT file and was led to believe that Firefox can locate the necessary software but I see to guidance having downloaded firefox browser (As advised)

Grand Dad writes: I have received a DAT file which my computer cannot open. A series of windows led me to FileCure. The remedy proposed by FileCure was to use Fireox as my browser. Having done so, there appears to be no guidance on the Firefox website as to how to proceed. Two hours later and $27 poorer (FileCure fee) I seem to be no further forward. I tried dragging and dropping the DAT file onto the FileCure icon: no result! Anybody found a way to tackle this?

I received an e-mail with an attachment .dat and went through
the same steps with File Cure and than Firefox as listed above.
I just want to open the attachment. How do I do this?

  • HT2614 Is there a way to open winmail.dat files on a mac pc?

aparently winmail.dat files ar created by microsft outlook or simular mail clients on a PC and has somthing to do with rich text document settings. if i start my computer in windows mode i can view the files however if i start in MAC OS and try to open it wont reconise even if using the MAC version of Microsft outlook.

That's a Microsoft extension.  For frequent email senders, you can request they stop sending the Microsoft-specific stuff; messages that aren't directly readable by other mail clients.  Here's how they can disable this: Email received from a sender using Outlook includes a Winmail.dat attachment (Microsoft KB278061)

I connected to the database as sysdba and issued STARTUP OPEN command.
How can I restore the datafile?

    ORA-01110: data file 32: 'F:\ORACLE\DATABASE\M23.DAT'

    Thank you for your advice.
To Issue ALTER TABLESPACE M23 OFFLINE IMMEDIATE, the database should be in OPEN mode.
    I couldn't open the database.
What shall I do put it in OPEN MODE?
    Thank you in advance.

You have to STARTUP MOUNT and take the tablespace that M23.DAT belongs to offline... probably OFFLINE IMMEDIATE.
Once you do that you may ALTER DATABASE OPEN. Then you can replace your data file with a backup and use the recover command to recover the tablespace IF you are in archive log mode. If you are not in archive log mode, you'll have to drop the tablespace, recreate it and hopefully you have an export file of its contents you can import.
    Best!

  • Opening winmail.dat files on iMac

I just purchased a new iMac for home use, but I still use it quite a bit for business purposes.  As such, I receive quite a few emails from Outlook users and people on Exchange servers, and consequently much of my email on the new Mac ends up as winmail.dat files or attachments.  Incredibly, Apple support says that the asnwer is simply to tell all my emailers to change the way they send their mail!  I can't believe that there's not a better answer or fix.  Does anyone have a better solution?

    Hi,
    There is a solution...

I have adobe x1 but I cannot open an email .dat file. Any easy solutions out there please?

As Test Screen Name states - Adobe Reader opens PDF files only.
So - fire up Bing or some other web search engine and look for applications that open / process / work email DAT files.
    Be well...
