OpenOffice & Word

When I open an attachment in Mail, OpenOffice opens it immediately. How do I change the Mail program so that it opens Word instead?
Thanks in advance.

Via the Finder select a Word document and use Get Info for the file.
At Open With, select the Word application and below that select Change All to open all Word documents with the Word application.

  • JavaDoc - OpenOffice / Word

I need to paste the JavaDoc of my project into an OpenOffice or Word document. Copy and Paste isn't a good solution since all the tables of the by JavaDoc generated HTML files are being pasted in the document...
Is there a better way to get the JavaDoc output into a OpenOffice / Word document?
    Thanks! :)

The same way as you tell this to the Javadoc. The DocFlex/Doclet is just a doclet (the standard Javadoc also has one - the Standard Doclet, which is called implicitly).
Please look at the 'generator.bat' or 'linux/generator.sh' (for Linux) contained in the downloaded archive to see how to specify your Java project. Those command files are prepared to generate a demo. But all you need is to change where your Java sources are located and which packages you want to document.
For all details how to specify everything to Javadoc, please see:
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/guide/javadoc/index.html
The DocFlex/Doclet has its own additional options, about which you can read on this page:
    http://www.filigris.com/products/docflex_javadoc/doclet.php
All of those options can be also assigned interactively in a special Doclet GUI, which will popup by default when you run Javadoc with the DocFlex/Doclet. You can disable that GUI, of course. See also an ANT buildfile demo at 'ant/' subdir.
If the RTF output the DocFlex/Doclet generates is something not what you need (it does contain those summary tables as well), using the full edition DocFlex/Javadoc it is possible to customize everything. If you buy a full license, we will help you with this for free.(Although, you can equally do it by your own).

  • MacBook and Openoffice 2.0

I desperately need to be able to use the Database in the OpenOffice Suite. I have already installed X11, and the openoffice word processor runs fine. The problem is when i try to open a table in the database i get an error message:
"Openoffice.org requires a Java rutime environment (JRE) to perform this task. the selected JRE is defective. Please select another version or install a new JRE and select it under Tools-Options-Openoffice.org-java"
When i click ok i get another message: "The connection to the data source "Experimental Table" could not be established. No java installation could be found. Please check your installation!"
Neither message makes much sense... If i go to "Tools-Options-Openoffice.org-java" as the first message suggests, it shows "Java runtime enviroments (JRE) already installed: Java version 1.4.2_09.
If i try to download another version of Java i recieve a message that says i can't download another java onto my harddrive since another (better) version of java is already present.
    Please help!
Sorry for the long post but i really need access to this database program... it was the reason i bought a laptop to begin with! :P

When i download the version you suggest, the Icon that mounts is a "MacOSX" icon. When i open it there are many files i can choose from. Among them are the two you mentioned, but there is also a 2.0.0 a 2.0.1rc5 a couple other simple ones and then weird names like "fink" "moz" or "kinput2.macim"
At any rate when i choose 2.0.2rc4 i then scroll thru and select the US english version called "OOo2.0.2rc4.2006408_MacOSXIntelen-US.dmg"
After i select it i immediately get a message that says "The application is on an FTP server. Are you sure you want to open it?" I click continue and it displays the exact same message again. Then i click continue and nothing appears to happen. My downloads window remains empty... So i click on the "OOo2.0.2rc4.2006408_MacOSXIntelen-US.dmg" file again and go thru the two error messages and now nothing seems to be happening, but within the 2.0.2rc4 file my mouse turns into a spinning pinwheel and then after about 5min of waiting i get message that reads "Server connection interupted: ooopackages.good-day.net Then it gives me the option to disconnect but the mouse still turns into a pinwheel when i put it over the 2.0.2rc4 window.
    Bah!

  • Less expensive alternate ways to get Adobe Story?

I love Story, but looking at what CS Live is going to cost come April, I'm really thinking I should look elsewhere for my screen writing needs. Possibly go back to Celtx for awhile till I find something I can buy and keep using. I don't use, and don't anticipate using other CS Live programs, so for me $200-$300 a year is really steep (not to mention I could barely afford it anyway with the cost of College these days.)
So that leaves me with three questions. Firstly, will Adobe have an option to only pay for the pieces of Live we want to use, like just paying (even if it is a yearly fee) for Adobe Story for less money? Or will there be a way to just buy Adobe Story without getting all the CS Live bells and whistles with it? Or will there be a student discount like with Adobe's other programs? I really just use the desktop App and don't really use the "live" features of it so at least for awhile the price just isn't worth it to me, nice as the integration and feel is.
I'm sure that the Live service is targeted at businesses who can afford the price, but I'm sure I'm not the only individual who knows that when April comes, there's either going to have to be an alternate, cheaper way to handle it, or we're going to have to jump ship.
Just wanted to throw that out there since I can't find much discussion on it.

IT is duplication Celtx with a Flash interface that is ridgid and not user friendly. It is very Adobe (pdf'y), and not enough story writing functions. Writing is the first component of creative commnications —even Celtx has a Novel category. At the root, words tell the story, not a production manager or producer or budget breakdown. Without a solid, well-written story, that is proofed, at final draft status, all other film making functions have a greater chance of failing.
Place a a program like WORD or OPenOffice word prcessor on top of it and it might work. For as much as I detest MS,  MS WORD is the dominent word processor app. for 99% of creative writers.
By the way Celtx is at a holiday mark down price of $9.95.

    Mrpeter1985,
Hmm.. I'm not sure that's how I'd interpret the warranty statement in the EULA.
I don't think it means that your license is void if you get a virus, but rather that the warranty of the performance of the software might be void.  I would also postulate that it's not a permanent void.  Reloading should be fine.
My interpretation is that MS is reasonably saying that if the OS malfunctions because it is infected by a virus that they aren't responsible to fix the code.  I.e. if you escalate a bug as a normal course of action, they would support it under the terms of the warranty, but if the bug were the result of virus corruption, then they aren't on the hook.
In any event - interesting discussion, but in practice... clean the virus or reload, right?
Plenty of good reasons to like Windows or to like Linux.

  • Why won't my Page Numbers and Footnotes from Swriter (OpenOffice) appear in .doc (MS Word) documents

I have written a book using Swriter (OpenOffice).
I have Footnote descriptions at the bottom of some pages and Page Numbers located at the top and bottom of each page) throughout the book.
I converted it to a .doc (MS Word) document for some people that have MS Word and the Footnote descriptions do not appear at the bottom of the specific page (the actual Footnote Numbers still appear in the specific sentence). Also, the Page Numbers do not appear at the bottom and top of each page.

Sorry, that isn't a Firefox support issue. Try the OpenOffice support forum. <br />

Could you please provide more details on exactly what you mean when you say you having troubles opening Word documents? What kind of troubles?

Can someone tell me the best way to view and edit OpenOffice files on my new iPad Mini (originally Word and Excel files)? Thanks!

wmf files is a MS Windows video file, you will need a tool to covert the wmf files to another file format OS X will read. Simply Google to find a converter you are interested in and use it.

  • Unable to print from MS Word: "The Directory Service is currently unavailable"

Hi! I hope you can help me. Please note that I have a Windows XP computer (Home Edition, Version 2002, Service Pack 3, 32-bit). When I initially installed a Brother printer (model# MFC-J475DW) in Dec 2013, I had no problems printing documents. My problems
started about 2 days ago. I got an error message after I opened a MS Word document (.doc) and clicked the Print button to print a document. The Printer "Name" field was empty.  I clicked the dropdown box in that window and saw 3 options:
    1 - Brother MFC-J475DW Printer
    2 - Brother PC-FAX v.3.2
    3 - PaperPort Image Printer
When I selected "Brother MFC-J475DW Printer," a Microsoft Word dialog box appeared, saying the following:
"The printer has not yet responded, but the Microsoft Office program may be able to proceed without printer information. Do you want to continue to wait for the printer?"
I can either click on a Yes button or a No button. Either way, I'm brought back to the Print page. When I click on the OK button to start printing, another error message appears:
"Windows cannot print due to a problem with the current printer setup. Try one or more of the following:
*Check the printer by printing a test page from Windows.
*Make sure the printer is turned on and online.
    *Reinstall the printer driver."
I have a choice to click either OK or Web Help. I click the OK button to close the box, then return to the Print page. When I click on the "Find Printer..." button, the Find Printers window appears for a moment, then is replaced by this error message:
"The Directory Service is currently unavailable"
On Friday (Mar 21), when the error first occurred, I was able to print a letter in MS Word after un- and re-installing the Brother printer and its drivers. The problem reappeared the next day (Saturday). I don't want to do that every time to print a single
page, so would you please recommend a solution?
By the way, I am able to print a test page from the printer in Control Panel, and I can print from a Notepad document. Also, when I go to the Control Panel, select "Printers and Faxes," then right-click on the printer (Brother MFC-J475DW Printer),
then select the Ports page, there's a check mark next to USB001 (not LPT1 or COM1). When I click on the "Configure Port..." button, I get this error message:
"An error occurred during port configuration. This operation is not supported."
Earlier today, I got a reply from brother.com's tech support (thanks to the 1 year warranty). They said the problem is on my PC, not their printer. However, they provided links to completely uninstall the printer, then reinstall it. I did just that, but
the problem persists. I'll download OpenOffice.org's Office Suite to see if I can print documents with their software instead of MS Word. Until then, I await any suggestions.
I hope this info is helpful. Thanks in advance for your help.

I downloaded OpenOffice and am able to print documents (in particular, the same document I created in MS Word). I guess MS Word is to blame. I believe the issue is concluded, but I'd welcome any comments about the Active Directory, as I might have a problem
with OpenOffice in the future regarding that.

  • Does macbook come with Word already uploaded?

and do I need to install the software that comes with it? It seems to me that it is only to be used as back-up.

    What Mort said.
office:mac has a demo of Word on board - as does iWork (Pages and Keynote), Apple's own cheaper, more Microsoft Works effort.
NeoOffice is the Mac-friendly version of OpenOffice and includes a suite of programs, including a Word-compatible WP. Oh, and its free, which in itself can be a worthy selling point - especially if you're happy not to further line the rather expensive pockets of Steve or Bill.
And if you really need is a basic WP, there is also AbiWord, a free cross-platform program - but I've enjoyed less success with its creation and translation of Word documents - if that is an issue for you. But it is tiny and efficient.
Regardless of what program you use, its worth remembering to uninstall the demos prior to installing the alternative. The demos will likely cause you problems with the full versions of office: mac and iWork thereafter, while reclaiming the lost space these take up will only make NeoOffice or AbiWord seem even more of a deal.

  • "The File Format is Invalid" whenever I try to open a Word File

Pages 3.0.2 consistently returns the 'format invalid' error when I try to open .doc files. These are mostly of kind Microsoft Word 97-2004. I get the same result whether I try to open the file from within Pages or drag the file to the dock icon (running or not) or even if I change the file properties to open it with pages. Opening a .doc file in TextEdit yields only gibberish, so that avenue is not open either.
This is a new MacBook Air I'm setting up for my wife who wanted something lighter for the road, which required over a Gigabyte of upgrades right out of the box. At least Pages will run, unlike Word for Mac 2008, which after an upgrade aimed to fix an issue where Word quits 'unexpectedly' when one opens or uses the program still fails to start up. This means that I have no chance to re-save files until my wife returns with her old iBook G4 with a functioning copy of Word 2004.
Short of installing OpenOffice* does anyone have any suggestions for 'unlocking the functionality' of Pages?
*Next on my list, though I've used it and find it emulates Word all too well in sluggishness.
    Thanks.

  • Preserving HTML links when converting Word docs

I created a document in MS Word for Mac 2011 (ver 14.5.2)
When I used Adobe Pro 11 to convert the document into pdf format, all the HTML links are lost.
I have tried converting from MS Word, opening the word version with Adobe Pro, printing from MS Word to pdf.  Nothing works. Even opened the MS Word document using Apple's Pages software, re-formatted and then converted to pdf.  Still no live links.
Best work around so far is to convert and then use the edit feature in Adobe Pro to re-insert the HTML links as invisible rectangles on top of the still-blue-and- underlined text.  So to the user it looks like the html links are still live, but what a pain for editor.
I have seen this issue raised in other posts, but none of the answers seem to work. And the work around described above is clearly less than ideal.
Very curious, as reading other posts, the issue apparently does not arise when the word doc converted from a Wintel computer.  But I can't imagine Adobe writes software one way for Intel and another for Mac.

Imagine it. this has been 15 year fued between Microsoft and Adobe.  Adobe Claims that Mac office doesn't hav ethe proper hooks for URLs. Microsoft says the fault is with adobe.
Since a Word Created file will work when opened in the windows version  and saved as a PDF, the links work just fine. Just opening and not saving, but converted to Pdf does nothing to the actual Word File.
They had it fixed last year  in Acrobat X if your dropped the file on to Acroabt directly. But broke it again with the upgrade to XI.
IF you have iWork and Open the word file in Pages then exported as a Word.docx file then create The PDF the links will become active.  Also if you Open in OpenOffice and export as docx file the resulting PDF when open in Word and PDF is Created the links will become active.
If you have neither you will have to open the PDF and add the links. Note the Links will be hot (active) but the links will not turn Blue and  be Underlined
Mac Office2011 is a Conversion of Office2010/2007 code.  So there should be no pproblem.
Also Don't use the Save As . . .  PDF Method. Instead go to Print Menu  click on PDF wait for context menu > the choos Adobe Quality PDF or Adobe PDF (uses Adobe's PDF engine).
wait for next screen that shows qualtity leave as sent unles you need specific job options. click okay then next screen File name. Rename as necessary the browser to desired to location then click save.  Or you can drop the saved Word document (with Word quit.) on to Acrobat and after a minute or so the PDF will be created. (Using this method in AcrobatX would actully show URL s or Mailtos as active - They broke this in Acrobat XI PDF still can be created but hot links no longer work).
Well it seems it does work on occasion  see: http://www.screencast.com/t/cib2kcYG

  • New to PDF Portfolios - Need to Link between PDF, Word & Excel Docs

    Hello All,
Thanks in advance for your help.  I'm new to the Adobe X Pro & making portfolios.  I have figured out how to create a portfolio.  My portfolio has a main pdf document and several folders with pdf, word & excel files in them.  What I’m trying to do is link from my main document (pdf file) to the other files (word, excel & pdf) that I’ve added to the portfolio.  I’ve tried linking to a pdf file and a thumbnail of the word doc (because I did find that I can’t link to the actual word or excel doc).  When I create & test the link (for both the pdf file & the thumbnail of the word doc) it is there; I can click the link I created and it will go to the word doc.  If I close the portfolio & reopen it the link to the pdf file is there, but the link to the word doc isn’t there anymore.  That link now goes to the main pdf file and not the word thumbnail or even the folder where the word doc is saved.  Any ideas on what to do?  Thanks.

As Dave has noted you can not do this.
Acrobat/Reader would need to know what program to use to read the data in the document and since there can be many different programs that could read your document,  Acrobat/Reader would need to know exactly which program to use on one's system. You might only have MS Office but others might have both MS Office and OpenOffice.org and might prefer to use OpenOffice.org unless there is a feature that is only available to MS Office. Yes it is possible to create a program that can be configured to use specific helper programs, but it can have a real impact on system efficiency. It is easy enough to download or extract the non-PDF document and then use your program of choice. Just look to MS Outlook for a program that can not always open an attachment, especially PDF files.
