Operations dispatch and employee capacity blocking

Hi Gurus,
I have some simple requirement on employee scheduling.
Step 1: Create work center for production and assign employees to the same. Employees are from HR with schedule maintained (daily schedule, leave etc) in HR infotype. Capacity should be considered of employees.
Step 2: Production order is created.
Step 3: Check the graphical planning screen (CM30) and based on the employee availability drag n drop the operations of the order.
Requirement:
1. I do not want the automatic scheduling to happen.
2. The operations have to be dispatched and the earliest start date, time, end date, time should get updated after we assign the employees using transaction code CM30.
3. The employees capacity has to be blocked once the operations have been dispatched.
How:
1. How do we achieve this?
2. What should be the work center category ...should it be 0003 - labor?
3. How to dispatch the operations?
4. In which SAP table can we find the link of employees capacity? We want to see employee wise time schedule during which he is blocked and when he is free.
I know there are many questions.. But please help me out.

While doing th capacity planning for the order you dispatch the operation. Dispatching operations is the main function of capacity leveling. Operations are dispatched to the time when there is sufficient capacity for them to be executed. You can also dispatch sub-operations and work elements.
Depending on whether finite scheduling is to be carried out, operations can be dispatched based on unlimited available capacity or existing available capacity. Existing available capacity is calculated as the difference between the available capacity maintained in the capacity and the requirements already dispatched.
Deallocating operation:
By dragging and dropping an operation from the work center chart onto any line in the pool you can deallocate individual operations.
To deallocate one or more operations, proceed as follows:
Select the desired operations.
Choose Functions - Deallocate.
The system deallocates the operations. That means that they are put back into the pool.

How to create Labor Operated Machines and confirm their work

Hello Experts
We have a steel manufacturing client for our implementation. the client already uses CATS to enter the time sheets for the internal activities using labor. but the customer requires to map machines operated by labor on the system.
Example:
Welding Machine XL5000 costs 10$ per hour
Employee #### costs 20$ per hour to operate that welding machine
Required:
- How to Plan that for a Project (( not using activity elements))
- How to Confirm the work hours done by the person using the machine at the same time<<Ex: using CATS>>. ((This is to prevent the mistake of someone confirming the activity element of the labor and not the machine or the other way around))

I just tried it. unfortunately the system doesn't consider the 2 activity types defined in the work center "Labor Hour + Machine Hour". I use formula SAP008 and check the "reference indicator".
I believe that is due to the activity type "Labor Hour" being set in the internal activity in PS.
I tried removing it, the cost calculation fails for the internal activity.
the system does not consider the activity types in the planning and the actual posting of CATS. I don't know how to do that in Project System.
Regarding the solution of having 2 lines of confirmation for the same activity in CATS, unfortunately this will double the capacity usage for the employee causing a time problem.
Ex:
An employee is working 14 hours (8 + 6 Overtime) on a machine. confirming that will require entering 2 lines of 14 hours in 1 day = 28 H. the system will issue a warning message that the employee is working more than 24 hours in 1 day and reduce the amount of work entered to fall to 24 hours.
And if we didn't face the 24 hours problem the employee capacity will be overrated in the reports.
I'n afraid it won't work.

How do you determine StringBuffer and List capacity?

hi all,
I'm curious and would like to post this query that how to determine the StringBuffer and List capacity after read some of the Java Platform performance book. Some of this performance books simply tells number of capacity brieftly without telling what and how does the capacity stand for.
First, the book mentioned StringBuffer(50). Note, my question is that what is this 50 stand for? 50 Characters? or any. Can someone help me to rectify this?
Second, List. ArrayList(0.75). And what is this 0.75(by default) stand for? A heap space? Then how many of them? How many objects that can be stored for not to "exceed 0.75"?
Please help. :)

I think the capacity is the CURRENT size of a container. But it is not equal to the number of elements that container currently hold. Just like, a house can have 10 people within, but problably only 3 people at some time. Also, the capacity is not equal to the maximum size, because container can grows automatically.
For example, a container whose capacity is 50, currently has 30 elements in it. If you add 10 elements more. That is only an addition operation. But if you add 30 elements to it. Then the container first enlarge its capacity according to some arithmetic(a enlarging rate), secondly carry out the addition operation.
Now that the capacity is the size, it should be a number standing for HOW MANY elements.... In the case of StringBuffer, it should be how many chars; in the case of ArrayList, it should be how many Objects. I do not think 0.75 can stand for a capacity. Prabaly, it was used to describe the enlarging rate when containers need to contain more elements than its current capacity. ( From JDK API, you can see the type of capacity is int ).
For containers and alike, the questions "how many I can hold" and "how many I am holding", "Do I can enlarge"? are helpful for understanding how it works.

You dont want next available capacity to be used up?
If that is the requirement then you can mention as overload % in the work center -capacity header

i am very excited to change knowledge here on the SCN.
Right now I am analyzing the SFDM Tool (Shop Floor Dispatching and Monitoring) and need some more Information, which cannot be found via Internet research. I hope someone, who is familiar with the technical details can support me with answers.
1. Master Data:
- How does the Interchange of master data (such as machine capacities in terms of time/quantities or number of available machines) work between the SFDM and the ERP System?
- Is there a permanent interface between the SFDM and the master data in the ERP System?
- If so, which of the master data are communicated?
- Are there any limitations?
- Do BAPIs (Business Application Programming Interface) play a role?
- Is any further master data maintenance necessary, if the customer wants to implement SFDM?
2. There is a backend component situated in the ERP System called "SFDM on ABAP 1.0". What is the aim of this component?
3. Does the SFDM work with algorithms? If so, why?
4. Does the SFDM consider other machines in the same production plant?
5. Does it work over HANA?
6. Any further functionalities or restrictions?

Hi
i wouldn't recommend SFDM for performance problem solving, if this is the issue you are facing.
If this is because planners are "lost" with CM25 because of problems for Production Orders selection and so-on, then try SFDM.
There is no new functionality compared to CM2x transactions within ERP.
The benefits are clearly focused on design and user-friendliness:
interactive logs
easy configuration of settings and strategy compared to CM2x TCodes
accessible details
Please keep also in mind the fact that this is working for individual capacities (cf. Rough Guide) and related constraints in terms of capacity category (only 0001 is supported).

am i wrong or could be a problem with the listener or with the dns entries? it is a demo system, where the host is also a dns server.
where can i find this trace file?

AT LAST,
i solved the problem.
i searched in the oss for
"ORA-12541: TNS:no listener"
and found the OSS NOTE 609332.
the reason was that the TNS Listener Service wasn´t started.
so i suggest, that you adjust the starting options for this listener service to "automatically".

ZFS iSCSI and free capacity in VMFS

Hi all,
I use ZFS in FreeNAS 8.0.4 and use iSCSI to provide a LUN to Vmware ESXi 5.0.
I post it at http://forums.freenas.org/showthread.php?10990-Memory-utilization-and-performance-problem/page4, but I believe people here may have more expertise on ZFS.
FreeNAS doesn't have iSCSI unmap. I have create / move / delete virtual machine between ZFS iSCSI. After a while, zpool list report 95% capacity used. However, Vmware shows VMFS only uses 50% capacity.
AFAIK, when creating a virtual machine, zvol allocated disk space.
However, when we moved / deleted virtual machine, zvol didn't update / didn't aware to update the free capacity.

Now, I believe due to the wrong free capacity reported in zpool list, the performance is deeply affected.
How I should do to let ZFS know the real free capacity.

Unfortunately there is no easy solution. When you have a filesystem sitting ontop of the ZFS volume (i'm assuming you created a sparse volume), that filesystem may be placing blocks of data all over. Even if its not using the space anymore there was no way for the zfs volume to know that.
Only way I found to alleviate it, is to use utils on whatever filesystem is ontop of the zfs volume to zero out unused space.. Usually a defrag first if (ntfs or fat32) and then zero out the free space. If you are running linux in the VM, then zerofree is a nice utility.
One other thing I noticed. Is when zfs sending a volume to another server, it seems to deflate a bit. I am not sure why, probably because once the sparse volume has grown and claimed the blocks, it will not let go of them, but when zfs sending it may only be sending used blocks.
Also consider turning on compression, even light like lzjb. No reason to not run with it on, it does wonders when you have VM OSs using volumes. My volumes using gzip-5 for Windows 7 VMs typically run at 2.00x compression and Linux VMs run at 2.5x compression.

Buy a 4 gig flash drive and you'll find that the actual storage is like 3.7 gig. that's part of the issue, the way computer memory is measured and rounding (it's the same with everything)
And then like the other said, the operating system of the ipad takes up more space. I think my 32 gig Touch really has 27 gig and change in free space

Employee Pay block

u cannot order by on a non database items in the forms, assuming that ur using sql in post-query to retrieve the last_name , then use order by in post query.
setting block property order by clause is associated with database block items.
u can make last_name the database item and others non database and retrieve in post-query. u can also create a joined view and base ur block on that view .
third u can make it all non database and then query ursself with order by and insert the records in the form.
hope any of it works for u .

How do I take data from a query sample record and query another block with it?

I have a master/detail form (6i) that contains a master block (staff), and a detail block (phone). I would like to be able
to query by phone number, but when I execute the query, I would like a 'search results' box to pop up that contains the
phone number I queried for, as well as some other staff info. There might be multiple records that match my query,
and I'd like them all to be listed (or list 10 or so, with a scrollbar). I'd like a push button next to each record that will take
me back to the master/detail window with that record displayed. So, I created a third block that is based on a joined
view of the staff and phone tables. It is a multi-record block, with 10 recs displayed and a scrollbar. It is in a separate
window. I don't want the user to have to navigate to that block, however, to perform their query. I would like them to be
able to enter the query in the phone number block, then somehow grab the phone number they've entered and use it to
query my 'search' block. This is the part I'm having trouble with. Can someone please help? THANKS!

Where do I put that line of code? I see that it goes at the Script part near the top, but how can I use that, I am pretty new to this language. I am not familiar with this line, where does it bind the value from the datagrid to the variable?
fullXML[myDataGrid.selectedIndex].FIELD_NAME;
myDataGrid would be the id from the grid I am guessing?
and selected index would be the channel.description part?
and FIELD_NAME; is the variable name?
does this go into a funtion or is it placed at the top where the variables are declared?
