OPS$ user for Oracle

Has anyone had any success using the OPS$ user for an Oracle database on Solaris? I would like to log in with a unix account and simply use the OPS$ account for that user. That way I do not have to store the password and username.
Thanks for any advice...

I thought I would post the solution although no one else posted. The solution is to use the simple getConnection method and leave off the database name on the url. e.g.
rConnection = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:oci8:@");
I hope that helps someone else.
This of course requires that you have set up the ops$ user on the oracle side and have a unix login that matches the ops$ user.

Hi,
We are on xMII 12.0.3 Build(107). We have the Oracle 10g database residing in the xMII server. Now, in order to create users to access the DB, do we have to create in SAP front or externally create users on oracle front?

• Create a new user for oracle 10G ASM instance with sysdba system privilege

Hi,
In our Golden Gate Project, we require the SYS user credential to connect to the Oracle 10g ASM instance to read the database transaction logs. But our client is not providing the SYS user credential to connnect to ASM instance.
I'm getting the error message "ORA-01109: database not open",When I tried to create a new user using the below the steps in oracle 10g ASM instance
1. Login using "sqlplus / as sysdba"
2. Create user <username> identified by <password>;
But in oracle 11g ASM instance, I'm able to create new user by connecting the ASM instance with SYSASM role without issues.
Is there is any workaround to create a new user with sysdba system privilege in oracle 10g ASM instance?.
Thanks in advance .

Hi,
Recreate the password file for the ASM instance as follows:
Unix:
orapwd file=<ORACLE_HOME>/dbs/PWD<SID> password=<sys_password>
Windows:
orapwd file=<ORACLE_HOME>/database/PWD<SID>.ora password=<sys_password>
Now sys password is reset, we are ready to use sys for ASM management. I decided to create another user ASMDBA as I tried above.
SQL> create user ASMDBA identified by test01;
User created.
SQL> grant SYSASM, SYSOPER to ASMDBA;
Grant succeeded.
SQL> select * from v$pwfile_users;
USERNAME SYSDBA SYSOPE SYSASM
SYS TRUE TRUE TRUE
ASMDBA FALSE TRUE TRUE

• Separate User for Oracle RDBMS and EM Agent...

Good Day All,
Has anyone here deployed the EM Agent (10.2 or 11.1) as it's own user? For example, leave the Oracle RDBMS binaries owned by "oracle" but install the EM Agent as "oagent."
I inquired with Oracle Support and I've received the "it is possible and done in some environments" but I want to know how many folks have done it, how large of a target base are you monitoring, and what target types have you tried. We are using a mixed RHEL & OEL environment.
Our goal is to separate the installation and support of the EM Agents from the RDBMS by team. I think we would want to have a shared Linux group... there might be some issues with the Inventory and writing to it by separate owners but we should be able to get around that.
Thoughts?
TIA!
Regards,
Rich

Thanks for the response!
Besides central inventory, do you know of any other issues we might have with this configuration? Have you implemented this to monitor targets such as Linux hosts, Listeners, RDBMS, WebLogic, iAS, Peoplesoft, Siebel, etc?
Regards,
Rich

• List normal users and corresponding ops$users in Oracle database in groups

Hi,
We are having Oracle database version 11.2.0.2 on Oracle Ent. Linux 5.1. Basically, according to our requirement, we need to list similar users in the database which are having individual usernames as well as their corresponding ops$usernames (in one query).
Eg. in the database if have users 'xyz' and 'ops$xyz', 'abc' and 'ops$abc', then we need to write a query which can list this users together in groups as below;
xyz
ops$xyz
Similarly,
abc
ops$abc.
Can you help me write a query so that I can list all these similar users residing in my database together.
Also, later I need to find out the roles and privileges assigned to these users once its listed.
Thanks in advance.
~ Rahul

Hi, Rahul,
To ignore leading 'OPS$' when sorting:
SELECT username
FROM dba_users
ORDER BY REGEXP_REPLACE ( username
, '^OPS\$'
;'$' has a special meaning in regular expressions, so when you literally want a '$' sign, it has to be "escaped" as '\$'.

• Max Concurrent Users for Oracle 8i

I am trying to find out information (white paper) that states how many concurrent users 8i can handle. Does anyone know of somewhere to get this data?
Thanks in advance,

Can you post the entire dump from the console?
Where are you getting the term "Concurrent Users"? Concurrent Users is a term Oracle used to use (or maybe still do) when licensing products. I'm just interested where you are seeing this from.

• Read only user creation for Oracle EM Console 11.1.1.5

Dear All.
I have created Read only user for Oracle EM Console.
I have followed below link to do the same
http://moshe-soa.blogspot.com/2011/09/blog-post.html.
I have noticed with read only user is that TEST button in EM Console is active means user with read only user can create a trans, in Prod scenario it is a risk.
Raised a CR with Oracle and found that it is a bug
Bug 14082464 - CANNOT DISABLE TEST/TEST WEB SERVICE BUTTON IN SOA EM COSOLE is there in Metalink.
So my question is there any way by which i can disable the TEST button in EM Conasole.
I think there are some WLST script or servlet java class available to resolve this issue.
Can any one confirm this and please suggest if any one aware of any alternative method.
Thanks,

Hi, have you got any solution to this problem? I am having exact the same issue in 11.1.1.6.

• Oracle user for backup tool

Hello,
I´m with some doubts regarding an error that I´m facing right now. We need to setup a RMAN tool for we can do backup of our SAP system (with Oracle Database) but it show me the following error when I insert the user name PRDADM ( which is the <sid>adm).
I don´t know which user we need to use at this stage and which privileges it needs to work and make the backup action of this oracle database.
This is the error:
This user account does not have the privileges that are required to log on to the Oracle database.

TSMSYS
Can you help me please. Can you tell me which user I need to use?!
Kind regards,
samid raif

Hello samid,
Try this...
In Symantec tool (Backup Exec) you have to insert the following information:
In "Database Access" tab, you must use an OS user with the required privileges which are described in the following article from Symantec:
http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH63665
In "Oracle" tab you need to add which oracle db instance you want to connect and also you need to insert an oracle user! For this I would suggest you to create a specific user for this backup procedure (<orauser>):
create user <orauser> identified by <orauser password>;
Then you need to add the required privileges for this oracle user, which are mentioned in the following article from Symantec:
http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH82892
Now I guess you have all you need to run a backup without problems!
Kind regards,
João Dimas

• API for creating new User in Oracle E-Business Suite through BPEL

Hello,
I would like to use a BPEL process to create a new User in Oracle E-Business Suite. In the Integration Repository I was able to find an API called FND_USER_PKG/LOAD_ROW that creates/updates Application's User data. Is this the API I should be using? If so, I would like to better understand how to use this API.
I have created a simple BPEL process and added an Oracle Application Service, which uses this FND_USER_PKG/LOAD_ROW API. I set the following parameter before Invoking the Oracle Application Service: X_USER_NAME, X_ENCRYPTED_USER_PASSWORD and X_START_DATE. When I run the BPEL process I get the following error. I suspect that I am not passing all the required input parameters. Does anyone have any sample data I can use to get this API to load correctly? If I am using the wrong API, please let me know.
Please note, I have also posted this question to the SOA Suite and BPEL discussion forums...
Thank you kindly!

Hello and thank you for your response. I am new to using APIs so please excuse my inexperience... I am not sure how to run the API outside of BPEL... Is that something you could easily walk me through?
I have made the following changes in BPEL based on your recommendation: 1) Added Oracle Application Service and used the API, LDAP_WRAPPER_CREATE_USER, found in the Oracle Application Module Browser* under: Applications Technology (ATG_PF)> User Management (UMX)> User (FND_USER)> PLSQL> User (FND_USER_PKG)> LDAP_WRAPPER_CREATE_USER
2) Set the following parameter prior to Invoking the Oracle App Service: X_USER_NAME, X_UNENCRYPTED_PASSWORD,X_START_DATE, X_END_DATE, X_DESCRIPTION, X_EMAIL_ADDRESS, X_FAX, X_EXPIRE_PWD.
3) Deploy and run BPEL through BPEL Control.
I get the following {color:#ff0000}error on the Invoke{color}. {color:#339966}Do you see any issues with the values I am passing in the input{color}? Any idea why I am getting this error? Is there anything that I need to have configured for the API to work correctly, other than adding an Oracle Application Service in the BPEL?
Thank you for your time,

• How to enable Scheduling in Discoverer for Oracle users?

Hi,
For accessing discoverer, our users are uaing Oracle usernames.
how can i enable scheduling for them?
we have already enabled scheduling for users who use database login to use discoverer. but not able to link oracle users to database.
are they linked through the responsibilities they use for logging?
thanks,
Gayatri

Hi Gayatri
If you're working in Apps mode and logging in with an E-Business Suite user account then by default the database account that will be used to access the database is APPS. You should not change this and there is nothing that you need to do to set this up apart from grant the user permission to schedule. You do that on the Scheduled Workbooks tab of the Privileges dialog box after choosing Tools | Privileges in the Administrator tool.
On a non-E-Business Suite application you can either grant privileges direct to the user or you can specify a proxy user for storing the scheduled results. In order to create such a proxy user you would need to run the script called batchusr.sql which you will find in this folder: $ORACLE_HOME\BIToolsHome_1\discoverer\util on the Windows machine where you have installed the Discoverer Administrator tool. In most cases this will be: C:\Oracle\BIToolsHome_1\discoverer\util
The following link will help considerably: http://download.oracle.com/docs/html/B13916_04/scheduled_workbooks.htm#i1011948
Another method would be to use Oracle's concurrent manager to schedule the reports. My good friend Rod West has an article on this which I am hosting here on my website: http://ascbi.com/downloads/Third%20Party%20Documents/Scheduling%20through%20Concurrent%20Manager.pdf
I hope this helps

• What is the password for 'oracle' user created during XE installation?

Hi,
What is the password for 'oracle' user automatically created when XE is installed?
I installed XE on Linux and it's created under 'oracle' user, but I don't know 'oracle' password. So, I cannot stop TNS listener.
During configuration, it prompted me to enter SYS and SYSADMIN password but it didn't ask me to enter 'oracle' user password.
Please let me know or point me to the document.
Thanks,
N

Hi Jari,
I tried your suggestion, but it didn't work unfortunately.
When I type (sudo su -oracle) as follows, it still prompts the password. When I hit Enter key w/o anything, it seems to proceed and the prompt shows up in the following line. So, I thought it was successful, but when I checked 'whoami', it's not logged in as 'oracle'.
So, I created the password for 'oracle' and logged in as 'oracle' using a new password. Then, I stopped TNS listener to uninstall XE.
It would be nice if it's documented in XE document somewhere... since it's created by XE installation, I assumed some kind of default password was used.
Thanks,
N

• How to create a new user id in OID for Oracle Collab suite File System

Dear Friends,
I want to know how to create a new user id in the oracle internet directory where i can use that user for the new subscription of the oracle collabration suite file system..
Please do the needfull and thanks in advance...
With warm regards
R.Prasad

Hi!
The way you suggest should not be used.
A CS user will be created as a normal OID user and will receive the CS attributes in a different subtree later during the provisioning.
For creating CS users use oesuser and uniuser. Files provisioning will work in a different manner anyway.

• Demo users for BPM in Oracle BPM Suite 11.1.1.4 (Patchset 3)

Hello,
In the previous release a utility was made available to insert demo users for BPM (demo-community.zip)
See also
http://blogs.oracle.com/middleware/2010/07/installing_seeded_users_for_bpm_11113_on_linux.html
Could I (re)use this utility in order to test BPM with an existing security schema? Or will a changed utility be made available for BPM 11.1.1.4 (PS3)?
Regards Léon

I used this on 11.1.1.4, running the ant script and using a customized input file ( -Dinput.file=... ) and it seemed to work fine.
