Optimization in schema to schema copy
Hi ,
As part of my assignment ,we will be having daily ETL in schema A.
To protect data in case of ETL failures,we do have schema B also.
Daily before initiating ETL ,A2B copy will be done for backup purposes and also for making the database online for 24*7.
As of now ,we are following the below strategy for copying A2B.
1.Drop all indexes and constraints in schema B
2.Do partition to partition copy
3.Do hash value test to validate step 2
4.Rebuild all indexes and constraints
5.Stats gathering
As of now ,its taking 3-4 hours for copy.
Is there any way to expedite it further.
All suggestions are accepted.
Please post your suggetsions.
Thanks.
If your ETL process is a full reload, then there is no need to do both A and B on the same day. A and B will trade roles of "current" and "backup" with each reload.
If your ETL process is based on applying changes since the previous day then you may need to run it against both schemas.
This makes sense for cases where your ETL process runs and data is static until the next run. If ETL runs and then some other activity (OLTP for example) occurs on the data then this approach won't be a good fit.

Schema copy misses NUMBER(1) column named DEPRECATED
Hi,
I did a Tools/Database Copy using SQL Developer 1.5.4 towards Oracle Enterprise 10.2.0.2.0. Almost everything went as expected. There was a column originally defined as DEPRECATED NUMBER(1,0). The column was created in the destination schema, but filled with nulls instead of the orignal data.
The weird thing is that the schema copy log does not mention this column when it lists DDL for the table.
I have checked, and DEPRECATED is not a reserved word as far as I can see. Anyone else seen this?

Schema Copy/replicate in Same database....
Hello - I have a requirement to copy a schema in same database - with different name. What will be my best options other than export/import.
Schema name: PROD
Schema Size: 120GB
Tablespace: All data of PROD is in PROD_D tablespace only
New Schema name will be: NPROD
Thanks in advancehi,
If you're worried about the dump size, you may generate it and get a 20Gb size file...
follow instructions from link Compressed dump
... if your schema has only tables, you may use CTAS

Ignacio

Hi,
I have to replicate one schema from one database to other. This has to be done through a shell script and would be a part of a weekly scheduled activity.
I have two ways in mind to do it:
1./ Export the schema dump on one machine, ftp to the other machine and then import it( all through a shell script)
2./ The other way is create a DB link. Drop the schema on target machine and copy the schema using this link.
Now i have performance as a major inflicitnig issue and need to know which one of the method is more reliable. The other thing is i am sure there would be a standrad procedure to achieve the set objective. Please help me thorugh this.
Thanks in advance! Can u explain it a bit more. I understand you are
cutting down on the ftp process which is fine but is
there any better way u can think of coz this dump is
around 300 MBThe 300 MB of schema data must anyhow move from one computer to another, and I can't see why ftp eliminates this need...
In the way that I suggested you read the dump file only once, as opposed to twice in the ftp+imp method. Therefore, performance should be better while network traffic stays approximately the same.

Oracle APPS schema copy with all privileges to new schema and table space
Hi all,
Here is scenario:
I have installed e-business suite in windows 2003 server for training environment using production (prod), single node and without vision (demo).
i have to create a new table space in e:\oracle\prodmanz with similar content as in proddata and create a new schema called manz with same privileges as APPS.
Kindly advice.

Thanks in advance guys.Hi Khalid,
Ideally when you execute sql 'create schema <schema_name>' then the logged in user is going to default owner of the schema and you should see that under 'object privileges' of that user.
The user will have 'create any' privileges which means the user has all the privileges on that schema.
if you want to check who is owner of the schema in the system, please check 'SCHEMAS' under views in SYS.

White lines fixed with art optimization - Is it possible to copy with that setting?
I've seen threads about the white lines you get on the edges of objects due to the anti-aliasing in Illustrator, and I found that when exporting, you can remove them by setting 'art optimized' in one of the options there.
For those who don't know the white line issue:
Sometimes, when Illustrator blends the pixels around an object, it puts a thin white line around it that always appears 1 px thick at any zoom level.
It's not really there, and when printed it vanishes. Trouble is, even when exporting the document, or copying objects into other software for screen use, it's still there.
A lot of people think the white line is a tiny gap, but it's not.
People also tend to tell you it's because you have two objects butted up against one another. This is also not true. The white line still occurs even on overlapping shapes.
People will also say it's when two shapes on top of each other follow the same path. Again, not true. The white lines still show up even when you only have 1 object following a particular path.
My issue is that I rarely export an entire document at once, but tend to copy elements of it into Photoshop. When I do so, the white lines travel with it, and become permanent. Even on a .jpg, .png, or .gif image file, the lines are still visible.
What I want to know is, can I copy objects from Illustrator using art optimization?
Or is there any other way to copy them without taking those white lines with me?
I know I can get rid of them by turning anti-aliasing off, but then everything looks really pixellated, so it's not much better.
Plus, anti-aliasing doesn't actually fix the problem, it just hides it. Even with the setting off, when I copy affected objects to Photoshop, the white lines reappear in Photoshop.
And please don't bother to reply explaining to me what the white lines are, or how to get rid of them, or how to lose them in exporting. I already know all that.
Notes:
I'm running Illustrator CS6
And Photoshop CS6Weirdly, yes. That does work.
The only problem is that I can't then resize it in Photoshop in the same way as a smart object. I'll just have to know what size it needs to be before I rasterize it.
But for now, it's a solution that's workable. Thanks! ^.^ -
Error when registering XML Schema
When I try to register a schema with XDB I keep getting an ORA-31000 error. It says that the schema it references is not a valid XDB schema, but when I try to register that one it says the first one isn't valid.
Testing with 11g I get
I assume you have registered 'http://www.w3.org/2005/08/addressing/ws-addr.xsd'

Merging 5 schema to one schema
Hi All
we have 5 company codes & 5 PY Schemas, to avoid user confusion we need to use One schema for all 5 company codes/schemas.
How we can create a custom schema to merge all , means each schemas will b a sub schema in one main schema, should ref comapny code
and execute
appreciate immediate response
SKHi ,
Please find the below logic :
IF Z100 Checking the company code 1000 by using SCOND IF = T
COPY Z101 COPY is function is used for schema within schema , copy from standard or create new
END IF. condition is completed
IF Z200 Checking the company code 2000 by using SCOND IF = T
COPY Z201
ENDIF
IF Z300 Checking the company code 3000 by using SCOND IF = T
COPY Z301
ENDIF
IF Z400 Checking the company code 4000 by using SCOND IF = T
COPY Z401
ENDIF
IF Z500 Checking the company code 5000 by using SCOND IF = T
COPY Z501
ENDIF
In Z100 To Z500 you should write a rule like ,
Go to PE02 ,
Query on company code ,
if company code is 1000 than process else exit the process, for this you use SCOND IF= T else F.
THanks

How do I select a database schema to use for a sequence file?
I have multiple database schemas on my TestStand system and when I select a sequence file I need to set the schema so the results get entered into the database correctly.
I use a SequenceFileCallback for DatabaseOptions in my sequence file and in this I set Parameters.DatabaseOptions.DatabaseSchema.Name='xyz' where xyz is the database schema name that needs to be used. This does not work and it reports an error that it can not be loaded or the file may be corrupted. Does this feature work or do I just have an error in what I am setting this equal to?
Solved!
Go to Solution.Hi plf,
It seems to me you are going about this the right way. The DatabaseOptions callback is called immediately before the process model fetches the schema statements based on the schema name. I was able to change the schema on the fly in the same way you are attempting (using the default sequential model and TestStand 4.1).
Ensure you are using a schema that is defined in the Database Options Dialog (Configure»Database Options»Schemas Tab»Schemas Listbox).
Ensure you are using the exact name of the desired schema (copy it from the Name textbox in the above Schemas Tab).
Ensure that choosing this schema manually works when you run this sequence file (to be sure it is not corrupted).
Check that you are using double quotation marks around the schema name, not single marks as in your post.

Schema compare tool seems to do nothing - at least not to compare schemas.
Hello,
(Version: complete zip-download from today)
the Schema compare tool seems to do nothing - at least not to compare schemas.
I can choose a source an a target schema, but when I press the action button (in german the descripton is "Anwenden") nothing happens.
For every single click on that button a windows appears for the fraction of a second with the header text "Performing Diff".
And that's all ...

Andre
hmm...,
OK, seems I have to reword my first posting:
Did anyone ever managed the Schema-Diff-Tool to compare Schema(s)/Object(s) in the past?

Andre

andremlAndre,
If you do not check the check box for individual objects on the Source tab, but just check the high level "TABLES" checkbox, then nothing is selected. Which is why no report runs. There is nothing to compare. This is a known bug. This means that if you only check the high level check boxes and then move to the destination tab, nothing is effectively selected.
The work around is to expand the nodes. Then, by just by expanding the nodes, all the objects are selected. You can then move to the Destination tab and select the schema you wish to compare. To see the syntax, select the Apply button on the Results tab.
We are aware the Schema Diff is not fully functional and have many a debate about removing it from the product until it's ready. But there are those who are using it, and so it remains. We will be redoing the UI and feature support for our next release, together with Schema Copy. (See the updated Statement of Direction for more)

Hi all,
pls help us configuration for Payroll Schema step by step with international payroll
Thanks for supportCreating Custom Schemas and Rules
Schema and Rule Naming Conventions
Customer modified schemas and rules need to begin with Z. Many customers simply replace the first letter of the standard schema with a Z u2013 i.e., their modified copy of UAP0 becomes ZAP0. But there can be problems with that convention. For example, you might later implement Canadian payroll and need a modified version of schema KAP0, but ZAP0 is already used for the U.S. For many years, I've used a naming convention of Z plus the country identifier and a sequential number for modified rules and schemas. So a modified UAP0 would become ZU01 and a modified KAP0 becomes ZK01.
Editor Documentation
Documentation for the function, operation, schema, and rule editors is available online at http://help.sap.com. Click on SAP R/3 and R/3 Enterprise and then select your release level and language. Then navigate to the Human Resources>HR Tools section.
F1 Help
In the schema and rule editors, place your cursor on a function or operation and press F1 to get help text. A schema or a rule's documentation is available in the editor via the Goto>Documentation menu. In the schema editor, the F4 key shows possible values for each of the four parameters for whatever function is entered on that line. The same documentation u2013 and more u2013 is available via transaction PDSY.
Creating a Test Schema
For testing purposes, it is useful to have a version of the payroll schema that does not care about the control record (transaction PA03) settings. Bypassing the control record lets you run and save the results for any pay period needed, without having to update the control record. There's no problem with having such a schema around, since the payroll driver does not save payroll results from a schema that ignores the control record in a production system. For examples, I will show you how to create two schemas u2013 ZUA0, which will be used in production and will check the control record, and ZUAT, which ignores the control record and is used for testing purposes only.
First, create a copy of SAP's schema UIN0 and name it ZUA2. In the schema editor (transaction PE02) enter schema UIN0, and click the copy button, or Schema>Copy in the menu. Enter ZUA2 for the To schema. Then edit ZUA2 and make the CHECK ABR line executable by removing the asterisk in the D column. The CHECK function is commented out by SAP in the standard schema, so you uncomment it here for use in the main ZUA0 schema. -
Hi,
I have the following problem. The client need that the logic of the "Deduction" in payroll, gets reversed the priorities of deduction when a termination is done.
So, I think to make the following: in the schema, copy the PRPRI and add a IF when a Termination is run, and with a copy (ex: ZRPRI) gets the priorities instead from A to Z, from Z to A. It solved the requirement.
The problem is, how can I copy PRPRI?
Thanks,
RubenYou may try creating a new function (ZPRPI) and use the same input and output parameters as PRPRI and then modify as per your requirements.

Mid Year Go live - Taxable Income
Dear Gurus,
Our SAP Payroll went live in the month of July. We have entered YTD data through INLK schema for April, May and June. I have entered 1) /401 Projection Factor, 2) /460 Income Tax, 3) /4ME Monthly Education cess, 4) /4MH Monthly Higher Edu cess
5) /4MI Monthly Taxable Income , 6) /4MT Monthly Tax payable.
Now when I am running July month salary through schema copied from IN00. Tax deducted so far (WT/456 ) is alright. Hopwever, my taxabl;e income is not taking into account cumulative figure of previous three month which we have entered through /4MI for previous month.
Please tell where it went wrong. And also how can I rectify that manually. Because it is not possible to revert back and reupload YTD data through INLK as finance posting is done for July.
Please help.mid year go live

Can't create a RAID set using the Utilities window
Hello! this seems so weird to me. I have 2 new LaCie 500GB drives. I'm working with ProTools (music production) and I need redundancy in terms of data safety, that's the reason for creating a mirrored RAID set. 500 GB should last me for awhile OK. Drives are brand new out of the box. They came formatted as FAT-32, got rid of that and erased and reformatted them as OS extended, journaled. They can be seen in system profiler. They mount and unmount OK. They can each accept and store files and I can retrieve files from them. But I can't join them to create a mirrored RAID set. In the disk utility window, I highlight the icon of either drive and try to drag it into the window but it won't drag. What's going on? I did this just fine with my earlier Lacie 200GB drives and an MBP, what's wrong here?
I have a feeling I'm doing something really basic and really wrong but I can't see it!
Anybody got any ideas? Thanks
RickIt's subtle; I had the same problem and it took me a month to track it down.
It's not enough to reformat your new drives, you also need to repartition them to either GUID Partition Table or Apple Partition Map. Look and I'll bet your drives, properly formated as HFS+ (Mac, Journaling) are still however showing Master Boot Record as their partition scheme -- you'll need to re-partition them.
You need to use the "Options..." button when partitioning via the Disk Utility. You can choose whichever Map/Table is appropriate for your hardware from the window that opens.
My scheme: copy the data to one, repartition the second, copy the data back onto the second one from the first one, repartition the first one, copy the data back onto the first one from the second, and you should be good to go in setting up your RAID.
