Opting out of Mac Mail

How do I stop Mac Mail from prompting me to set up an account? These semi-weekly pop-ups are a bit annoying.
I've already tried deleting the mail program, but I got error messages saying it was missing so I re-installed it.
What else can I do?
Thanks!

When it get the set-up message, I am not aware that it is open. After each time the message appears, I force quite to close mail and I never have reason to re-open it.
I can't really say whether or not it is already open when I get the message. But it is clearly open when the message appears.
Now HOW it comes to be open, I have no idea. The last time it happened (today) I think I did restart my computer. But I didn't get the mail pop-up until at least an hour later.
So is there a start-up option that is being applied? If so, how do I change it?
Thanks.

  • Setting the smpt port out wil .mac mail

Maybe I'm not getting this, but I want to set the send mail port on my iPhone that is using my .mac account. I looked at the instructions for doing this and go to Setting -> Mail, but I cannot find where to put in the smtp.mac.com:258 or whatever port I'm using. Can some one walk me through where I put this in?
Or do I set up the .mac mail as an "Other" mail account?

Actually, I do need to set my smtp, as my ISP provider will only allow mail out on a specific port, and the .mac preference does not include that port.

  • Signing out of mac mail

I haven't seen any discussion on this in recent posts. Only from a couple years back. But is it still really the case that the only way to keep my Mac Mail from being public is to have multiple user accounts and then sign out of my user account each time I leave the computer to ensure that no one else looks at my mail?
Right now, we have basically one user account. And we don't sign in or out of it. I use Facebook? I sign in and then sign out and go on my merry way. Someone else comes along and wants to use their gmail? Same thing.
But this becomes a major hassle if I want to use Mac Mail. We actually have to have multiple user accounts just to keep our mac mail private from one another? And then each of us has to be signing in and out from those user accounts constantly just to use the computer? Seems like a humongous hassle and a major reason to not bother with Mac Mail. Maybe useful for folks who have a computer that they and only they use. But for those of us who actually have computers that are shared, that's a big-time deal-breaker.

    Howdy jumpcuts,
The best way to keep information such as mail private between multiple users of a computer is to have a separate user account for each user. This allows each user to maintain their settings and preferences for all applications such as Mail, web browsers used for FaceBook, etc. See this article for information on how to set up new user accounts -
OS X Yosemite: Set up users on your Mac
An alternative would be to create a Guest User account and use a web browser to access email accounts. Guest account settings are not saved between logins. See that same article.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Best,
    Brett L

  • Hyperlinks in PDF doc stop working when emailed out in Mac Mail. Why?

I have created a Pages document with hyperlinks and then saved it as a PDF.
The PDF document retains the hyperlinks (they still work).
When I attach the PDF to Mail and email it out the hyperlinks stop working unless I double click on the PDF document (which "opens it").
Why? Help please as I want the hyperlinks to work when the email is received - ie. without double clicking on it. Thanks.

First off, Word should show you the version on a splash screen when you launch it.
Also, what happens to the links if you just open the document in Word and save it as a PDF?

  • How do i sign out of mac mail?

I may be selling my computer soon. I was wondering if thier is a way to delete everything in the mail application. Or maybe a way to just sign out. -Thanks!

If you will call Apple and give them your serial number, they should be able to send you install disks; or..... since you are running 10.6.8, I can assume that your purchased Snow Leopard as a retail disk, in that case, you can simply buy another.
You do need an install disk to erase your hard drive and then reinstall the system and you really do not want to have another person have access to your private information. That could have some very unpleasant consequences.

  • Mac Mail Server Autodiscovery

    Hi all!
For our customer (an Email Service Provider) we are trying to find out if (and to what extent) Mac Mail supports Server Autodiscovery (just the way Outlook 2007 and 2010 (for Windows) do it, see http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124251.aspx).
The goal is that the User only has to enter his/her email address, and the SMTP/POP3 host/port are automagically configured in Mac Mail.
We know that Mac Mail does read our customer's autodiscover.xml (see Microsoft's definition of the autodiscovery-process in the link above) and supports a certain subset of the aforementioned "autodiscovery protocol" in order to support Exchange servers --- but is this also possible for SMTP and POP3 servers?
In our tests we could not get Mac Mail to autoconfigure itself using an autodiscover.xml file which works perfectly well for Outlook 2007 (and our SMTP and POP3 servers).
We also found out, that Mac Mail seems to use a proprietary autodiscovery service implemented as a web service at https://mac-services.apple.com --- this one seems to be the reason why e.g. "[email protected]" will configure Mac Mail to use the pop3.live.com server.
Does anyone know of a way for a small Email Service Provider to become one of those supported providers?
    Thanks for any information,
    heli

    i've set up http://autodiscover.vcn.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml
it's set to use php to parse the email address and log the output, when I enter in my email address in mail and continue, it hits the address above, posts an email address.

but mail forces me to put in settings manually, even though it should have just been handed the settings on a silver platter.
does this not work with non-exchange servers?

  • Random email disappears from my sent box in mac mail

I use mac mail and this is a problem I've had for a while.  I had it on my old macbook pro and on the one I've had for a couple of months.  I use ATT and I notice that occasionally emails will disappear from my "sent" box.  Sometimes if I close out of mac mail and reopen it will show up, other times the sent mail will not appear.
I am now trying to find an important mail I sent this afternoon and cannot.  I tried going to mailbox and clicked on "rebuild".  All the mail in my "in box" disappeared and appears to be doing something but the sent folder is in tact and the missing email is still missing.
I have researched this and it seems that this problem goes back years.  When I used Mac Outlook, I never had problems with mail disappearing.  I had other problems, though, like my mail refreshing and re-downloading all the saved mail on the server which is why I switched to Mac Mail.  I think I rather have hundreds of du much mail than randomly disappearing email.  Geez, is it that hard to get a decent Mac mail client that I dunno, um works???

Select the Accounts tab in the preference dialog, then select the affected account in the list on the left.
In the Account Information pane, select the correct server in the menu labeled
    Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)
If there's only one server in the menu, select
    Edit SMTP Server List...
and add a new server with the correct settings. If you're not sure how to do that, try the Mail Setup Assistant.

  • How can i signout the mac mail?

i cant figure out how to sign out of mac mail ?

Mail menu, select Quit Mail.  If that fails, check the Window Menu, Activity Viewer to see if it needs to stop being busy.  If it is frozen, and you aren't reading or composing a meesage, click on
    command-option-escape to force quit it.
Otherwise wait for it to finish doing its tasks.

  • I use mac mail on my network, when i file it into a folder is stays in my inbox, how do i get it out of my inbox?

All of a sudden mail ends up in the wrong folders how do i fix this
i use mac mail, i have three machines with my account set up on it.  Today i find also that when i filed items out of my in box and there is still a copy in my inbox and one in the folder i moved it to, it should only be in the folder i moved it to

Are they Smart Folders? Smart Folders don't actually hold e-mail messages, but reflect what is filed elsewhere.

I have a brand new macbook with microsoft office loaded. I set outlook as the default mail. i would rather go back to mac mail but can't figure out how to do it. any ideas?
    Thanks for any help
    Lou

I have a similar problem: I switched from mac mail to Outlook 2011 as the default client, and want to switch back. Mailto links (eg from browser etc) default to Mail.  However, when I try to email a Word document as an attachment, it continues to open Outlook.  Outlook has a button in its prefs for making it the default client, but I don't see a way to turn this pref off in either Outlook or in Word.

  • My mac mail is out of sync with my icloud

Since a few months I only receive mails from iCloud on my Mac mail if I am online.
Meaning that if mails are sent while I am offline, they do not pop up on the mac, when I get back online. :-(
I receive the mails on my iPhone, I can see them all on iCloud web app. But Mac-mail never gets them.
They just stay in the cloud.
Doing a sync to iCloud does not solve the issue.
I have tried to remove the iCloud account from my mac, reboot re-create the account, but the problems persists.
Any ideas what to do next?

Wouldn't it be awesome if APPLE would program something in to itunes that allowed up to 2 seconds of wireless LAG adjustment?  WOW!
ie: streaming your itunes library to airport express, out your amp AND your laptop, and having the sound in sync?!  wha....!!!  who would want to do that?  uhhhh everyone?
Its ok as long your are plugged into the LAN.. no delay, but any wireless at all in the equasion, and its in the millisecond delay range.. annoying..

  • Why are sent emails from mac mail going to out box and message saying cannot connect to ATT server?

I receive emails via ATT to my mac mailbox. But when I send an email it goes to the out box and I get a message that it cannot connect to the server?
The genius bar said that APPLE and ATT were working on this, but very frustrating. Any suggestions?

Same is happening with me.  Was having intermittent DSL service - called AT&T to rectify.
After the internet was back up and running, I could no longer send outgoing mail from my Mac Mail 5.3 application.  I didn't change any settings or update any software, yet the IT person i was talking to (the same who corrected my internet issue) was saying it was a Mail problem.
I disagree considering it was working 1/2 hour before we started our conversation!
    Any insight would be helpful.
Definitely set up the way AT&T suggested!

  • Mac Mail sending out multiple e-mails

    Dear All,
My friend reports that today he is receiving 3 copies of every e-mail message that I send him.  I'm working on a Mac Pro, Lion 10.7.5, using Mac Mail through Yahoo, and I have only one account.  I have an iPod touch, but I have never sent e-mail through that device nor signed up for it on the iPod -- I only use my Mac desktop for sending and receiving e-mails.  Anyone else having this recent problem?  I never had it before today!  Thanks.

Are you sure it's the Mac sending out the spam, or just spam masquerading as coming from your email account (the From: line is ridiculously simple to forge)?
While it's clearly possible to devise a system to cause a Mac to send out spam email (or any other computer for that matter), it wouldn't be terribly efficient for the spammer.  Even when they take over zombie machines (and unpatched Windows XP systems are the favorites there) the spammer would prefer to use the machine to send out all kinds of email *AND* would attempt not to draw attention to the actual machine sending out the stuff.
That is, where it *appears* to be coming from will generally not be where it is coming from.
What malware prefers to do is "harvest" an address book from a user's computer (or, more often these days, from an online address book after phishing the credentials from the user) and then using that to send out emails to your contacts that look like they come from you so that they are more likely to be opened.  If that's what has happened, there's nothing you could do to the Mac at this point to get that data back.
Again, while it is clearly possible to harvest that data under either OSX or Windows 7 from your address book in either platform, it is considerably more difficult to do that than to go after your credentials for an online site using a phishing attack and then make use of the contact information.

  • Verizon email via Mac Mail totally locked out/unresponsive since abt Sept 17th

What am I to do to get Verizon mail working again, as it always had, with my Mac Mail client, from overseas?
I have NO email access to verizon via my Mac Mail client at all. 995 & 465 ports time out after long, futile waiting periods, never to connect.
Webmail via Safari is ok, tho very sluggish when trying to sign in.
But I must access Verizon email via my Mac Mail client. Webmail is not reliable for me.
I am often in germany, where I use Telekom (t-online) for my internet connection, & have no problem with my t-online email which has the same exact pop/smtp settings as the Verizon email accts.
& have had no problem with verizon email whatsoever for the last 8 years.... until Sept 18th.
Verizon's Support chat y gave me a runaround & a brush-off with false advice & absurd info. (I'd saved the transcript & confirmed my suspicions by showing it to other colleagues who are computer saavy professionals). Altho the Verizon support chat admitted forum reports that overseas accts were suddenly locked out due to some security issue, they did not offer that info without my first suggesting it & then they claimed that my problem must be with Apple's Servers!
(my verizon email does not go thru any apple server, excuse me?!?)
I can not call any verizon 800 numbers from outside the USA & no alternative non-toll-free numbers are offered on any Verizon site that I can find.
No email address is offered for any Verizon support.
I do not use any social network (eg Facebook or Twitter).
So what am I to do to get Verizon mail working again, as it always had, with my Mac Mail client, from overseas?

Your issue has been escalated to a Verizon agent. • How do I stop Mac Mail from sending an unauthorized "out of office" message to a few, not all, my associates

How do I stop Mac Mail from sending an unauthorized "Out off Office" reply to several, not all, of my associates emails?  Only happens with me.com mailbox, not Earthlink.  Am not getting some important e-mail from brokerage and business associates.

If Earthlink is unaffected it is probably a settimg in me.com.  Log into me.com account in a browser such as Safari (will get icloud.com) and select the settings (gear) icon bottom left, and then click on the airplane icon. Make sure vacation setting is unchecked.
