Opting out of Ping sharing

When I installed iTunes 10.0.0.68 this morning, the splash screen warned me that I need to opt out of Ping sharing to prevent my info from going to Apple. I understood that to mean that I was opted in, unless I chose to opt out.
Is it enough that my Account Information page says "Ping: Off"?
Or, is there some other step that I need to take?

Correction on the version number.
According to the Help dropdown, I'm running 10.0.0.68.
But according to the Windows uninstall page, I'm running 10.0.1.22.
Apparently, the Help screen didn't update when I did the upgrade.

  • I can't install or buy some apps after opting out from Family sharing

I created family sharing and used it with my brother. Then I dismissed it. When I try to install or buy apps, which previously were bought by him, appstore requires to enter a password from my brother's icloud. Even if I install a free app.

THe problem has been resolved by signing out and then signing in my Appstore apple id.

  • Can I opt out of Verizon Selects and still earn Rewards?

Verizon Rewards sounds like a great idea, but I don't want to be sharing my information about everything that I do with any company, let alone a marketing company that will target me with ads, etc.  I just want to be rewarded for being with Verizon for more than a decade... sometimes it feels like no company has any respect for customer loyalty.
So, can I join Verizon Rewards and opt out of Verizon Selects to protect my privacy?
    Thanks,
    Dave

According to their website and the page about signing up for Verizon Rewards:
"Participation in Smart Rewards may require enrollment in Verizon Selects, which personalizes marketing customers may receive from Verizon and other companies by using information about customers' use of Verizon products and services including location, web browsing and app usage data."
It says "may require enrollment", but I don't know whether or not that means that it will, or that I will opt out.  There's another discussion on here somewhere that asks this same question, and the Verizon rep's response was "We'll send you a private message", which bothers me... why can't they discuss it on that post?

  • "Premium Messaging" (aka "Premium Text Messaging) - Blocking 3rd Parties from Generating and Opting Out

<Duplicate post and will be locked. Please see any replies at How can I block text msgs?.>
NOTE: THIS MESSAGE IS INTENDED AS INFORMATION SHARING
Here is what I've recently learned (the hard way) about "Premium Messaging"/”Premium Text Messaging” charges of $9.99 that show up in the "Usage Charges" section of your monthly bill under Data (taken from an email from a Verizon Wireless Customer Service Rep):
"...Premium Text Messages are services offered by third party content providers. They can offer many different things such as: weather or news alerts, sports score alerts, horoscopes, jokes, and even traffic reports. They can also provide entertainment services such as: games, trivia, chat services, free ring tones, or as a part of social media for services provided through Facebook or other sites. You may also be familiar with television or radio programs that have you vote for your favorite artist by sending a text message to a short five or six digit code. Sending a text to those codes is how you get signed up for these services.
In order to remove it, you simply send a text message from that specific phone to that short code. (34135) In the body of the text, simply write the word Stop. Finally go ahead and send the message. Within a few minutes, you should receive a text back from that company stating that you have cancelled out of their subscription service.
...I recommend sending this text as soon as possible to avoid future charges. Judging by the date you supplied, they appear to charge on the 6th of every month."
What this boils down to is that Verizon is complicit in allowing 3rd parties to occur extra charges via their monthly billing, despite the fact that you may have not realized the text was an "opt out" type. If you read the texts that come in English, the method of opting out is specified, which in my case was replying to the text with just the word STOP – I was thereby opted out, BUT FOR JUST THAT SPECIFIC 3RD PARTY. You should then (IMMEDIATELY) call Verizon customer service at 1-800-922-0204 and request that “Premium Messaging” be blocked.
I believe you can also do this yourself at:
    https://wbillpay.verizonwireless.com/vzw/accountholder/uc/UCServiceBlocks.action
You can also read about this subject at:
http://support.verizonwireless.com/faqs/Premium_TXT_and_MMS/faq_premium_txt_and_mms.html - pay special attention to item #4.
For those who say “you should have read your contract more clearly in the 1st place”: my father had died not long before I signed up with Verizon, and I was still in a fog, not really capable of absorbing a lot of information.  I don’t remember reading the first such msg I got; I might have even deleted it before reading it completely because at 1st glance you can tell it's a solicitation. What that very brief, 1st glance doesn't scream out at you is the fact that this is something you must reply to opt out of.

I called customer service from my phone to get this taken care of, and everything went great.
If anyone else has the same problems, just know that I got this resolved immediately.  I put the block on premium messaging last night, and this morning I saw a Verizon Support tweet about this same issue that recommended forwarding the spam message to 7726.  I did that and followed some instructions that were replied back to me.  Then I went ahead and called customer service, told them the problem, and they issued a credit right away.  I just checked and it went into effect immediately.
Like I said, if anyone else has this problem, these steps resolved it perfectly for me.  Good job, Verizon.

  • No opt-out for cloud? I am incensed.

I bought a Cicsco/Linksys EA4500 router a few weeks ago based on good reviews on Amazon.  I see now that the package probably said something about the cloud but if I saw it I'm sure I assumed it was some feature for which I would not sign up.
At no time was I advised that the cloud would be mandatory with no opt-out once it rolled out.  This morning I see that I am being prompted to either sign a new EULA or roll back to firmware that Cisco will probably not support.  This is completely unacceptable. The Cisco cloud may be really cool and awesome but the fact remains that the product I bought has been disabled by Cisco and it appears I have no way to make it functional without agreeing to new terms.
I would not be upset at all if the cloud sign up page had a "Not now" checkbox so that I could sign up at my leisure. I have no interest in sharing data with Cisco and even less interest in making my routers accessible from anywhere outside of my local LAN.
If I still have the packaging for it I'm returning it today.

jawhitti, before you return your router, read what has happened since Cisco forced the cloud firmware (Cloud) on all of us unexpectedly. We share the same feelings as you and have been trying since Wednesday to get the original firmware, we call it the Classic firmware, posted. Finally on Friday Cisco publically posted the Classic firmware. Many of us have upgraded from the Cloud firmware to the Classic firmware and now our routers behave as we bargained for when we made the purchase.
However there remains one last piece to make everybody whole and that is an update to our Classic firmware that contains the fixes that were in the Cloud firmware. I personally think Cisco didn't foresee the firestorm of protest from its Cloud program. Again, if you read the posts you will see how many angry users and companies' IT people are responding. I am hopeful Cisco will make the right decision at the beginning of next week and provide the Classic firmware with the fixes. I feel Cisco knows that their Cloud strategy may have not been fully thought through and will proceed in a far more user-friendly way.

  • Google Analytics OPT-OUT Browser Add-on 0.9.6 doesn't retain OPT-OUT settings...never did really. Also JAVA now refuses to create updates for WinXP/FireFox.

I use PaleMoon now trying to get rid of advertising sharks. I have WINXP still - need assistive-technology computer for pain so taking time on getting new computer.
I have been severely sabotaged by advertising conglomerates selling my private information. They have no right -yet they do whatever they want. Anyhow...I've tried to OPT-OUT of EVERYTHING POSSIBLE. I've tried 5 places found. Google, NAI, DAA, & FIREFOX HELP said go to about:config was instructed to turn "from false to true" the "privacy.tracking.protection.enabled" .But I couldn't keep this setting because this also has to be set to false to use any saved log-on's to my accounts., and add-on AD BLOCK PLUS 2.6.7 when I was on Firefox & had some ticks and now it is disabled because it won't work with PaleMoon 25.2.1
This case is about GOOGLE OPT-OUT. Starting here: http://www.google.com/settings/ads?hl=en&sig=ACi0TCgWymel0CNWxdcnEWPzWNs9wDd7cVQHxHsmtz4w30CAyHk7MqyzzZdGh3m6FpDaJsKmunTLEvJZY5LAm3h6gIdzE30L-Q
There are 2 columns. The left one "ADS ON GOOGLE" NEVER RETAINS AFTER LOG-OFF. The right column "Google ads across the web
" seems to retain sometimes - if I remember right it falls off after a period of time as opposed to after just LOGGING-OFF. Below the columns there are options, but I don't have a GOOGLE ACCOUNT.
Also down there is this link: https://support.google.com/adsense/troubleshooter/1631343?hl=en ...you see the box with this: Advertising industry program participation
Google is a participating member of groups that have developed industry privacy standards like the Ad-Choices icon for online advertising.
    Group Location
    Network Advertising Initiative United States
Digital Advertising Alliance (DAA) United States

....I clicked OPTED OUT FOR NAI on their link http://www.networkadvertising.org/
...I clicked OPTED OUT FOR DAA on their link http://www.aboutads.info/
...I clicked PROTECT MY CHOICES and downloaded the app.
These 1st 2 links used to have the same trouble and didn't retain ANYTHING and wouldn't re OPT-OUT ANY UNTIL THEY WERE SATIATED - saying I didn't have 3rd party cookies allowed when I did - this took hours.
I sent numerous trouble reports to them that they ignored - then I think I sent one to Firefox and it is much better but still not completely right. Today DAA retains 106 out of 122 and if I repeatedly RE-OPT-OUT successively I can get it to 121 out of 122 - never completely. (currently the one not taking is Accuen Inc. but it changes periodically - makes me think they set one up to take my info and then share it with all of them - lol )
Same for NAI currently I started with 94 out of 96 - next re-OPTED-OUT got it to 95 out of 96 and no further and same co. Accuen Inc (accuenmedia.com ) wouldn't update.
NOTE: I was copy/pasting the list of NON-OPT-OUT'S to them and my own document file to try and find trends/problems...now NAI programmers protected the list from being able to be COPIED AND PASTED!!! That's the opposite of being open and interested in making this work, right? Why would they want to allow us to OPT-OUT of their criminal espionage behavior...RIGHT? (lol) FYI: I recorded that the big one that was always retained before this one was...MEDIA MATH INC.
MANY Opt-outs would drop off while on-line and ALL would drop-off once logged-off. Now it's retaining most once logged off - but it hasn't been long enough to tell if they'll fall back into their bad habits as they've done before...
This has been going on forever for me - I've been reporting this malfunction since 2013.
Of course I downloaded PROTECT MY CHOICES FOR FIREFOX via NAI AND DAA'S links ...http://www.aboutads.info/PMC#protect-your-choices-for-firefox ............they both go to the same place???.....PROTECT MY CHOICES http://www.aboutads.info/plugin/install/firefox....that seems odd...it's as if they are the same entity then. ABOUTADS is DAA'S WEBSITE. NAI'S IS NETWORKADVERTISING.ORG so why would NAI use DAA'S PROTECT MY CHOICES app?
Lastely, I also requested that the COOKIES NAMES BE UNIFORMLY IDENTIFIABLE. All the OPT-OUT COOKIES that are to be forevermore retained on my computer and that I am to trust the EVERY FUNCTION OF - well they all have different COOKIE NAMES!! Most of the names you can not tell that they are OPT-OUT COOKIES!! - SO NOWWW They have created another problem.
We can no longer just "DELETE ALL COOKIES".
PLUS, we can no longer go through our cookies and delete individual ones that snuck through.
Every one of the OPT-OUT COOKIES SHOULD SAY "OPT-OUT" IWITHIN THEIR NAME OF THEIR COOKIE - PERIOD. RIGHT? (LOL) For real. Why was this mess was allowed?
REALLY IN MY OPINION THESE COMPANIES SHOULD BE BLOCKED AT THE LOCAL PHONE COMPANIES LEVEL - IN OUR SERVERS. We should not have to deal with them. Same thing with viruses, malware and such beasts. But I digress.
    In summary:
    1.)Google Analytics OPT-OUT Browser Add-on 0.9.6 doesn't retain OPT-OUT settings
2.) JAVA refuses to create updates for WinXP/FireFox/PaleMoon.
3.) DAA & NAI still don't retain ALL OPT-OUT settings and never completely OPT-OUT all companies.
4.) OPT-OUT cookies should be uniformly names with the words OPT-OUT in their titles.
5.) Ad Block Plus 25.6.7 doesn't work for Pale Moon and there is no alternative - (didn't work great in FireFox)
Right now I'm mainly interested in #1)retaining my GOOGLE OPT-OUTS while on line AND while logged off since it is attacking my computer and steeling all the speed until it freezes my keyboard.
Currently I am trying to remember to run through 3. OPT-OUTS every time I log on.
    Thanks so much!

  • I have OPTED OUT of hot deals (and 2 others, the third will not let me its behind its window) and it will not turn off - how do I turn it off forever?

You have an opt out option.
THIS opt out option has a forever option.
    IT DOES NOT WORK.
I have opted out forever on the stupid )(&**%^*&()*^ tab that occurs in the MIDDLE OF MY SCREEN, covering a THIRD of my screen (and at 62cm - this is over kill!) .... FAIL. (at least 4 times)
I have opte dout forever on the stupid tab on the RIGHT side of my screen......FAIL.(at least 8 times)
I am unable to opt out forever on the tab that appears on the bottom of my screen, as the opt out options appears BEHIND the window I wish to opt out forever of. (I call this EPIC fail.)
When I am reading a story on line, I DO NOT WANT TO SHOP. If I am shopping in Amazon for a book, I will be reading about that book. IT IS ANNOYING TO HAVE TO CLOSE OUT WINDOWS EVERY TIME I SEARCH FOR A NEW BOOK - consider that I search/buy around 15 books at a time - after checking out maybe 50 that these tabs open over the TOP of.
I also wish to get rid of the underlines with the green circle-thingy arrows that open pop up windows if I mouse over them. (there are 3 of them under this box I am typing in as I type, and nudging the mouse out of the way has opened up at least 4 stupid pop up windows - which I have blocked pop ups in the options...so WHY???????)
I realise this can not be fixed on the spot, as it is going to require an actual programmer to fix it but please, pass this up to or over to whoever CAN fix it. I have used firefox since before patch 4 after it went live. I ADORED the old "you are F****d (etc" page you used to have that was directly opposed to internet explorers page not found - and I actually took the time to read it and had a terrible time stopping the laughter (at work of all places) when I did. I do not want to change browser, but these *features* do not enthrall me - especially since *features* should be optional, and turning them off should work.
Thank you for your help, and I hope you have a great day/night and no more horribly painful people like me. <3 x o

    thankyou. THANK you.
    thankyouthankyouthankyou!
sorry about no screenie but the first option worked (at least so far!)

  • How do I opt-out of recieving email receipts for free items from the store?

    Hello,
Currently, when I download free apps from the store I will eventually receive weekly receipts from e-mail. While useful on purchased items, I treat this as spam for free items.
How do I opt-out of this for free items?

I'm not aware of any setting to prevent the Apple's receipt to be sent.
If you bought a mix of purchase item and free item, the will appears on the same receipt. Instead of considering them as spam, you can consider them as "a way to recall which apps you dowloaded in case something wrong happen".
Personally, I have created a folder called "receipts" and simply send these mails to this folder.

  • When trying to sign into facebook in settings for ios6, I get an error that says "You cannot sign in from your iPhone since you have opted out of Facebook Platform." What gives?

When trying to sign into facebook in settings for ios6, I get an error that says "You cannot sign in from your iPhone since you have opted out of Facebook Platform." What gives?
More info: I've combed through the settings in facebook and there is nothing that shows I'm blocking anything from accessing it.

Sure sounds like a Facebook setting. When you look at your Privacy Settings in Facebook (on facebook.com), you should see something under "Apps you use" that says
Turn off your ability to use apps, plugins, and websites on and off Facebook. After you turn this off, we will not store information about you when you use apps or websites off Facebook.
The "Turn off" is a hyperlink that shuts down the Facebook platform. If you don't see this, or if the wording is different, you may have (inadvertently?) shut this off, and should be able to turn it back on.
Edit: The sequence to that screen on facebook.com is: Privacy Settings (from the upper right dropdown), then "Ads, Apps and Websites" will have an "Edit settings" link to the right. This is where you'll see the "Apps you use" screen.

  • Why can I not use any map website because I am prompted to download Maps Galaxy for Firefox which I do not want & am provided no opt out option?

I have attempted to use Google , MapQuest and Yahoo map and directions and cannot view the resulting directions because a message appears on the screen requiring me to download MapsGalaxy for Firefox toolbar. I am happy with what I can do currently with the map and direction web sites and do not care to download this toolbar but I am not even offered to opportunity to opt out. There is not even a description of the benefits offered if I would download the toolbar. I'm not one who enjoys being force fed things I did not request. What goes on and why am I being forced to download this toolbar in order to continue to use the map web sites? Thanks for your assistance.
I have a screenshot of the message but am unable to figure out how to include it with this detailed description.

    Hi,
Firstly I'd like to clarify myself: I'm not working for any hardware and software vendor. I've posted few times: they (all of them) don't sell printers, they sell inks because in many cases total cost of a new set of inks is more expensive than a new printer with inks (I know cartridges are not full). Since inks are very expensive, many people use chip resetters, continuous inks systems .... to reduce printing cost such as some thing like one of this.
    Regards.

  • How can I opt out of marketing texts from EE?

I receive marketing SMS messages from EE on a fairly frequent basis. They never have an option to reply "STOP" as there is with other marketing texts. I've browsed the My Account section on EE  and can't see any options there to opt out either. How can I tell EE that I no longer want to receive these texts?

    Hi
Unfortunately you cant stop them by replying STOP.
As XRaySpeX mentioned you would need to give us a call and advise customer service you would like to change your Contact Consent.
    Hope this helps!
    Thanks.

  • HT4436 I want to opt out of iCloud. How do I do this?

I updated to Maverick and suddenly iCloud is everywhere and there is no way to opt out as I was able to before. I don't want it being in charge of my files or passwords or anything. But it seems if I uncheck the items it decided to take over (Contacts, Documents, etc) my computer will delete them. I feel strongarmed into using iCloud.

Backup your data and sign out. Restore the data after you sign out. This is not complicated.

  • How can I opt out on the default setting for a split window in Firefox 3.6.12 ?

Since I upgraded to Firefox 3.6.12, the page opens up with two vertically divided panes. Each pane displays a different bookmark. The left pane is generally only about an inch wide and can only be expanded to about 3 inches wide. In that mode, it is pretty much useless and only provides a distraction. How can I opt out on what appears to be the default setting for a split window with two vertical panes.
At this point, I am discontinuing using Firefox in favor of Safari because of this change in the default window.

Opening in the side bar is the default for bookmarks that are created via a link or button on a website.
You can check the Properties of a bookmark via the right-click context menu in the side bar (Ctrl+B; Cmd+B on Mac).
In the Bookmarks Manager (Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks) you can click the More button in the Details pane at the bottom right.
Make sure that "Load this bookmark in the side bar" is not selected.
