  • Oracle error ora-00214

    Hi,
    The disks on one of our oracle machines had crashed and we had to get everything from back up. Now on this machine, when i bring up oracle, it gives me the error: ORA-00214: controlfile '/u10/oradata/bmedia/control01.cfl' version 71287 inconsistent with file '/u30/oradata/bmedia/control03.ctl' version 71219.
    oerr for this error tells me to use filed that are for the same db for the same time period. The dates on these two files are the same with a time difference of about 1 hour.
    Does anybody know of a way to recover from this problem without losing data in the oracle database? Thanks,
    Manju.

    Whichever controlfile has a timestamp consistant with that of your datafiles should be copied/overwrite the other controlfile which does not have the consistant timestamp. Do the copy (rename the controlfile you are going to replace just in case!) and try to startup the database.
    If that doesn't work you will have to recreate the controlfile. Refer to Oracle documentation for the create controlfile statement.

    Hi Selvi,
      It would be better to ask this question in the RDBMS forum -

  • ORA-00214  ERROR

    Hi all.
    I am working on Oracle 9.2.0.1.0 version on Win 2000. While trying to multiplex Control File I got the error.
    ORA-00214: controlfile 'E:\ORACLE\ORADATA\DEVP\CONTROL01.CTL' version 749 inconsistent with file
    'K:\DATABASES\MULTIPLEXDEVP\CONTROL03.CTL' version 743
    Can anyone suggest me its solution.
    Thanks in advance.

    Well, what Robert Shallenberger said should work. Are you sure that your init.ora file parameters are set? Can you post your init.ora.
    If you want, you can do the following:
    -shut down db.
    -backup init.ora. edit the init.ora and remove the entry for the control file that seems to be upset.
    -restart db (to make sure its all good).
    -shutdown db.
    -edit init.ora file with new control file parameter.
    -copy orignal control file to the new location. this should multiplex the control file.
    -restart db.
    its pretty much what Robert Shallenberger said.

    Here is the fix from Metalink note 1014751.6.
    https://metalink2.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/f?p=130:14:7463074268617192659::::p14_database_id,p14_docid,p14_show_header,p14_show_help,p14_black_frame,p14_font:NOT,1014751.6,1,1,1,helvetica
    fix:
    The solution consists in opening the database with a single good copy
    of the control file and then shutting the database down and copying
    that version of the control file onto the other mirrored copies.
    That will cause the next startup to succeed. The steps to be followed
    are:
    1. If the database is still up, do a shutdown abort now.
    2. Edit the init.ora file for this instance (or config.ora in an ifile
    configuration).
    Find the CONTROL_FILES parameter and modify it to include
    just ONE copy of the control file that you have reasons to
    believe is up-to-date. For example, if you only have two
    mirrored copies X and Y of the control file:
    CONTROL_FILES = (X, Y)
    and you know you have accidentally overwritten X with an old
    copy, make
    CONTROL_FILES = (Y)
    If you are not sure about it, choose any one of the control file
    copies and remove or comment out all the other copies from the
    CONTROL_FILES parameter.
    3. Start up the database in restricted mode.
    STARTUP RESTRICT
    If the database comes up fine, move on to Step 4.
    If instead you get ORA-1122, ORA-1110, and ORA-1207, go back to
    Step 2 and make the CONTROL_FILES parameter point to another one
    of the mirrored copies. If you have already tried each and
    every one of the mirrored copies unsuccessfully, you must create
    a new control file for the database. See the Solution Reference
    to PR entry 1012929.6 ("How to Recreate the Control File").
    If you get ORA-1113 and ORA-1110 pointing to one of the datafiles,
    it means the copy of the control file you picked is good, but
    the referenced datafile must be recovered before the database can be
    opened. Try issuing a RECOVER DATABASE command and applying the
    logs you are prompted for. You may have to resort to the online
    logs to complete media recovery. For further details, see the
    Solution Reference to PR entry 1012943.6 on ORA-1113. Once the
    datafile is recovered, issue an ALTER DATABASE OPEN.
    4. Shut the database down (normal or immediate).
    5. Make all copies of the control file consistent.
    Copy the good mirrored copy of the control file that you just used
    to bring the database up onto all other copies, as originally listed
    in the CONTROL_FILES parameter of your init.ora file (or config.ora
    in an ifile configuration).
    6. Restore the CONTROL_FILES parameter to its original value.
    Edit the init.ora file for this instance (or config.ora in an ifile
    configuration) to make the CONTROL_FILES parameter include
    all mirrored copies of the control file again.
    7. Start up the database.

  • Database is hosed - 10G 10.1.0

    Disclaimers: I am still learning what everything is & does so have patience with me. Also, this is a test environment that I was attempting to port a database from Sybase so the overall loss is negligible.
    However, this might be a good time to learn what happened and if there is a posibility of fixing it.
    I created a database, about 150 tables and loaded over some data. I then used one of the backup tools in the online EM. I honestly don't recall what I did, but under oracle\product\10.1.0\flash_recovery_area\orclmine\backupset\2006_02_07 I have two files:
    O1_MF_NCSNF_BACKUP_ORCLMINE_000_0_1YKRR3YR_.BKP - almost 3M
    O1_MF_NNNDF_BACKUP_ORCLMINE_000_0_1YKRPZKL_.BKP - about 746M
    Some time over a weekend, the server lost power. (Someone figured a UPS wasn't needed for a 'test' server) After the server went through its own checks and everything is back up, I cannot get into the database. Logging into the online EM I get:
    "The database status is currently unavailable. It is possible that the database is in mount or nomount state. Click 'Startup' to obtain the current status and open the database. If the database cannot be opened, click 'Perform Recovery' to perform an appropriate recovery operation."
    The database fails to mount. I've tried the Perform Recovery option using the Autobackup in flash recovery area, but I'm thinking this isn't the kind of backup I created. Well, I think that because A) It wasn't an auto backup, I did a one off myself and B) I've tried just about all the different combos of database name and recovery location I can think of. Passing it the root level directory where the recovery area is all the way to the detailed directory where the backup files are located.
    I am now lost.
    I've registered for my metalink account, but the registration has not come back yet whether I'm approved or what not... So I cannot access the metalink at the moment.
    I guess my priority is to first try getting this instance back up. If not, how can I jump start the database and rebuild it? Last resort is a full un-install/reinstall.
    Thanks for reading. I'll try to answer any questions as best I can. Here's the error I get in EM when trying the restore (with some formatting for readability):

To do this, I've cancelled recovery, created a new spfile from the current pfile and shutdown the instance. Then the problem appears when I mount the instance. I check the parameters I've changed in the pfile and these changes are not present on my "new" spfile. If I take a look to spfile parameter...., my instance is running with old one! Do you have any suggestion about how to fix this?
    Thanks in advance.

    >
    Did You restarted instance in order to use a new changed pfile?
    And only after that created spfile?
    >
    Yes, I've restarted the instance to use the new pfile, and also after create the new spfile.

    What You mean with "take a look to spfile parameter"?
    You checked out and saw that database is still using pfile?
    >
    I've executed the following sentence:
    "show parameter spfile"
    and the output shows me that the file in use was the old one.
    >
    If you don't specify on startup what file to use spfile or pfile then oracle automaticaly looks into $ORACLE_HOME/dbs and search in this order:
    * spfileSID.ora
    * spfile.ora
    * initSID.ora
    * init.ora
    Do you have under $ORACLE_HOME/dbs spfileSID.ora or spfile.ora?
    >
    I've the following files under $ORACLE_HOME/dbs:
    * spfileSID.ora (that's the new spfile)
    * initSID.ora (that's the old spfile)
    * initxxxxx.ora (that's my custom pfile)
    I've created the new spfile with my standby database on mount state, with the following sentence:
    "create spfile from pfile"
    When I restart the instance and try to mount it (using the new spfile), I get an ORA-00214 error.
    So, I'm still running with my custom pfile.

  • Creating a control file copy with ASM

    Configuration is Oracle 10.2, RAC, and ASM (Automatic Storage Management). I would like to create a second copy of the control file.
    If this wasn't ASM, I could just bring down the database, copy the control file using an operating system command, modify the pfile to reference both the original and new copy, and then restart the database.
    Since this is ASM, I cannot use an operating system command to copy the control file, and RMAN "BACKUP" (which is the only way I know to make a copy of the control file) will only work if the database is up. When I "restore" the control file using RMAN and change the pfile to reference both control files I get a message like the following when attempting to start the database:
    ORA-00214: control file '+ASMGROUP1/db1/controlfile/current.271.566646845'
    version 2241 inconsistent with file
    '+ASMGROUP1/db1/controlfile/current.268.566661765' version 2236
    Soooooo, how do I make and implement a second copy of a control file using ASM.
    Thanks

    Hi.
    This is not testet so presede with caution as it is meant as a discussion ;-)
    As I see it there is no logical way to extend the instance by adding a controlfile.
    The following procedure might work (has not been tested)
    I think you have to make a controlfilebackup with the database closed in normal mode using RMAN.
    Further you might be able to edit the pfile with create pfile from spfile and further create spfile from pfile. Extending the controlfile parameter to represent number and names of controlfile needed.
    With this done, the database is closed normal with a controlfile copy presented somewhere on the filesystem.
    startup mount;
    restore controlfile from '<backup controlfile location>'
    alter database mount;
    alter database open;
    Any thoughts about this procedure guys?

  • Database could not able start after power shutdown

    Daer all ,
    Due to power failure , SAP XI PROD got down , then i have tried to start database , i got the below error .
    ORA-00214: control file '/oracle/IXP/origlogA/cntrl/cntrlIXP.dbf' version 6070
    inconsistent with file '/oracle/IXP/sapdata1/cntrl/cntrlIXP.dbf' version 6059
    Kindly advise

    Hi,
    This happens as the control files in origlog and SAPDATA1 are not in shync.
    Take a copy of the file '/oracle/IXP/sapdata1/cntrl/cntrlIXP.dbf' and then replace this with the file '/oracle/IXP/origlogA/cntrl/cntrlIXP.dbf'. Then try to start ur DB.
    FYI: At any point of time all the control file in a DB should be in shync.
    Good Luck!!!

  • Hardware Failure - Now having db probs - Please Help!

    First of all, we have no in-house Oracle expertise. Our in-house staff are versed in MS SQL Server.
    We had a motherboard failure on our Oracle 9i server (release 9.2.0.1.0), which was replaced. There are two instances on this server. When we tried to log on to the server, we got the following error:
    ORA-01033: Oracle initialization or shutdown in progress.
    Then, someone tried to force a shutdown and force a start. Now we're getting the following error:
    ORA-00214 control file 'd:\oracle\oradata\intgback\control02.ctl' version 253
    inconsistent with file 'd:\oracle\oradata\intgback\control01.ctl' version 247
    Is there a utility to repair this or something we can do? We are running in the mode that does not have a recovery log.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you!
    Leslie

    First, just in case, take a backup of all your Oracle database files with the database shutdown (i.e. control files, redo logs, data files).
    Next, at the O/S command line or Windows explorer rename
    d:\oracle\oradata\intgback\control01.ctl to d:\oracle\oradata\intgback\control01.bak
    Next, copy d:\oracle\oradata\intgback\control02.ctl to d:\oracle\oradata\intgback\control01.ctl
    Then try to restart your database.
