'D:\General\1mcs\oracle\oradata\globaldb3\CONTROL02.CTL' version 16885 Error: ORA 214
Text: control file <name> version <num> inconsistent with file <name>
version <num>
Cause: An inconsistent set of control files, datafiles, and redo log files
was used.
Action: Use a consistent set of control files, datafiles, and redo log files.
That is, all the files must be for the same database and from the same
time period.
edit you pfile, and set the control file as only any one of that and startup, If not try with second one. check by which controlfile you can able to open database, so that later you can multiplex the controlfile.

I developed an application using VB.NET 2003 and Oracle 10g backend. When I start my machine and work on my application, everything works fine for two to three times execution. After some time when I execute my application it gives different errors every time. Sometimes:
Oracle not available
sometimes, TNS Listner cannot listen to ....
sometimes, Oracle Initialization or Shut Down in progress.
Why?Hi,
Below three error is different.
Oracle not available
connect with sysdba privs users
and give

if 10g then first set ORACLE_SID and connect with sysdba user WITHOUT "TNS_ENTRY"
conn sys as sysdba
passwordsometimes, Oracle Initialization or Shut Down in progress.
shutdown in progress ... you have to wait for complete shutdown.
you can check status of database through connect with sysdba privs.

Oracle intialization or shut down in progress
Hello every one
i have installed database 10g release 2 on windows 2003 R2 standard edition
and after creating DB with SID orcl with no logic reason when i connect to it
it gave me oracle intialization or shut down in progress message and doesn't connect
The H/W of the machine is
Processor :4 intel xeon cpu 3.6ghz
hard disks:5HDD SCZI (each 147 GB)
ram : 4G ramHi
Did you try this?
On command prompt type
SET ORACLE_SID=ORCL
SQLPLUS "/ AS SYSDBA"
If it connects to an idle instance you will have to startup the DB.
SQL>STARTUP
One more thing you can try is to SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE or SHUTDOWN ABORT and then STARTUP again to confirm that DB starts normally.
Also, do you see any errors in the alert log file?
Regards
Adnan

Error ORA-01033 oracle intialization or shut down in progress
Hi ,
I am getting the error when i try to login to oracle
Error ORA-01033 oracle intialization or shut down in progress.
i waited for much time but i get the same error.can some one help.
Thanks442321, if a startup is in process you will need to either let it complete or cancel it in order to connect with a non sysdba session.
You cancel the startup the same way you would kill a hung shutdown by connecting as sysdba and then issueing a shutdown abort.
You should review the alert log prior to issuing an abort to see what is going on.

mac shut down due to problem; I rebooted fine. how do I determine what the problem was?
When shut down and rebooted, the Mac OS X does background maintenance on the system. That can solve minor issues.
Beyond this, it is a good idea to run Disk Repair yourself just to make sure.
Reboot with the option key held down. On the screen that comes up select the Recovery disk icon and Continue.
On the next screen Clcik Disk Utility and Continue.
In DU, in the list on the left select the drive to be repaired - click the item that is indented to the right, not an an item whose name starts on the far left.
Click First Aid, then Repair Disk.
After that is done, quit DU and restart as usual. -

I just recently updated to the OS X soft wear and every time I go on iPhoto or iMessage my computer shuts down. This problem doesn't occur when I log into my laptop as a guest. I have a Mac book pro made in 2010.
Any error message?

Macintosh HD greyed out and shut down after progress bar complets
Hello everyone, after i manually closed my macbook by holding the shut down button for 5secs due to an application crush, my macbook pro doesnt seem to be able to boot anymore. It executes the progress bar under the apple icon on the screen (trying to repair my hd) and after it completes the process, it shuts down. When i press cmd+R, i can see from disk utilities the 500GB hard drive and the macintosh hd. The 500GB total hard drive is normal (even with no problems to fix after running verify and repair) but the Macintosh HD-part is greyed out and verify/repair fail with an error when i click on them. What should i do? i dont think its a hard drive failure. At least, how can i back up my system or some files? from disk utilities the new image function should be executed for the macintosh hd partition and not for the parent 500GB hard disk in order to make a backup, right?
1) In a Finder window, select the Macintosh HD. Can you see the contents? If yes, you can select to drag over files.
2) Download SuperDuper (free) When it opens does it recognize the internal drive in the popup? If yes, you will need to make a second portion on your external drive for the clone of your internal drive.
3) If you can't see the contents or the drive in Finder or SuperDuper then you will need to download and run Mavericks over the internal drive. -
Oracle XE Not Shutting Down Cleanly
Hello all.
I've installed an Oracle XE on an Oracle EL 5.5.
Everything looks fine, except for the shutdown script. It does startup nicely with system starts, but if I shutdown the OS, the database just crashes, instead of shutting down cleanly.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.Thu Sep 16 19:25:47 2010

Shut down // start up problems
i am having power related problems on the intel mini and i want to know how widespread this is before i confront apple support. btw i love the mini--this is my 2nd mini. i have had a power on problem with a mini even on the day of purchase and it was exchanged graciously at the apple store in white plains this past july.<this was a power button failure issue>
here's whats happenning....1>it misbehaves on shut down or restart by software. there gets to a point where the screen is black but the white light on the box stays on and the vents in the back are still warm. my workaround is to manually shut down about a minute after the software shut down by holding down the power button on the back of the mini.
......2> start up problem. the mini wont always start when i push the power button. my workaround has been to turn off my surge protector for about 10 seconds then turn it back on and VIOLA the power button can start the mini. i guess it needs to be cold to work.
i have been reticent to go to the store because i rely on this machine too much and i am not the only user here.
can some reader disclose if such a hardware failure is known?
thanks in advance.thanks. i hadn't thought about the surge protector.
keyboard and mouse are bluetooth.monitor is digital 24". i have an external powered usb hub which runs my time machine external drive. i keep everything else unplugged from the usb hub during startup and shutdown because my ipod shuffle caused startup problems in the past.
i had similar troubles with my first mini when it was plugged directly into a wall socket. the surge protector seems to help--at least i can cold start the mini without unplugging it.
i have a genius bar apptmt this evening and i will see what gives. i am glad i made apple put in their own overpriced ram so i never voided the warranty. maybe i will buy a care plan to cover myself when i am there. but i so want to raise this mini from 2 to 4 gig now that mem is so cheap. if i can get this problem stabilized...
my very first mini was powerpc and the ipod shuffle, according to genius bar, caused its demise due to usb 1.1 and usb2.0 handshaking problems. i still have it somewhere and plan to install a harddrive to get it going.
thanks again guys.
and i'd like to ask others again if this problem is more common. -
Hi All
I hope I can find help for my problem as it is getting really frustrating. I have Lenovo X230 tablet which used to run fine until it suddenly will not shut down or reboot. The screen will turn black however the small led lights on power and other button
will remain on and the the laptop will remain like this until I press the power button to physically shut it down. When I tried to restore the system to an earlier point, the laptop will not reboot and I had to press the button again to shut it down and then
power it up. It showed after that reboot was successful but to no avail. I tried to reboot it to even an earlier point (still I had to manually reboot it) but it failed. All drivers are up to date and I always install Windows updates as soon as they are out.
Still I have to push the power button when I install new windows updates when reboot is required because the screen will go black as I already mentioned with the power still on. I do hope to get helo with this.
Thank you
QasHi,
As this problem occures with no symptoms, in my opinion, it would be better to make system restore to revert your system to a former normal time point for test.
If the problem persists after system resotre successfully, it would be better to contact Lenovo support to check Hardware problem.
