ORA-01017 error while using a database link
Hi all,
I have a TNS entry as below
HOME=
(DESCRIPTION=
(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=10.66.205.110)(PORT=1521))
(CONNECT_DATA=(SID=HOME))
I have created a database link as
create public database link link92.com using 'HOME'.
This was created successfully and an entry was made in all_db_links table.
However if i try connecting to a table in the remote database...for example
select * from emp@link92;
I am receiving an error ORA-01017(Invalid username passwd).
Would appreciate if somebody could help me out.
Thank you
It is not that the Database Link is "PUBLIC" that makes it use the current username/password.
It is that the Database Link has been created without specifying a " CONNECT TO username IDENTIFIED BY password " that makes the DBLink behave as a "current user database link" using the current username/password to connect to the remote database.
You can have a PUBLIC database link that uses a "CONNECT TO username IDENTIFIED BY password" such that all connections use the same remote username and password.
You can also have "private" (ie not PUBLIC) database link that does not specify a "CONNECT TO username IDENTIFIED BY password" which becomes a "current user [owner] database link".

ORA-12709: error while loading create database character set
I installed Oracle 8.05 on Linux successfully: was able to login
whith SQLPlus, start and stop the db whith svrmgrl etc.
During this install I chose WE8ISO8859P9 as the database
characterset when prompted.
After that I installed Oracle Application Server 3.02, and now
I'm getting the
ORA-12709: error while loading create database character set
message when I try to start up the database, and the database
won't mount.
Platform is RedHat Linux 5.2.
NLS_LANG set to different settings,
e.g. AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8ISO8859P9
but without success.
Anyone any clue?
Thanks!

You can create the database with WE8DEC character set
and to use the WE8ISO8859P9 on the client or even on Linux.
The NLS_LANG setting doesn't effect the database, but the
interface with the database. The same setting can be used in de
windows 95/98/NT registry.

ORA-01458 error while using Pro*C to invoke PL/SQL procedure, pls help
I am using Pro*C (Oracle 10g on Itanium platform) to invoke PL/SQL procedure to read RAW data from database, but always encoutered ORA-01458 error message.
Here is the snippet of Pro*C code:
typedef struct dataSegment
unsigned short len;
unsigned char data[SIZE_DATA_SEG];
} msg_data_seg;
EXEC SQL TYPE msg_data_seg IS VARRAW(SIZE_DATA_SEG);
EXEC SQL BEGIN DECLARE SECTION;
unsigned short qID;
int rMode;
unsigned long rawMsgID;
unsigned long msgID;
unsigned short msgType;
unsigned short msgPriority;
char recvTime[SIZE_TIME_STRING];
char schedTime[SIZE_TIME_STRING];
msg_data_seg dataSeg;
msg_data_seg dataSeg1;
msg_data_seg dataSeg2;
short indSeg;
short indSeg1;
short indSeg2;
EXEC SQL END DECLARE SECTION;
qID = q_id;
rMode = (int)mode;
EXEC SQL EXECUTE
BEGIN
SUMsg.read_msg (:qID, :rMode, :rawMsgID, :msgID, :msgType, :msgPriority, :recvTime,
:schedTime, :dataSeg:indSeg, :dataSeg1:indSeg1, :dataSeg2:indSeg2);
END;
END-EXEC;
// Check PL/SQL execute result, different from SQL
// Only 'sqlcode' and 'sqlerrm' are always set
if (sqlca.sqlcode != 0)
if (sqlca.sqlcode == ERR_QUEUE_EMPTY) // Queue empty
throw q_eoq ();
char msg[513]; // Other errors
size_t msg_len;
msg_len = sqlca.sqlerrm.sqlerrml;
strncpy (msg, sqlca.sqlerrm.sqlerrmc, msg_len);
msg[msg_len] = '\0';
throw db_error (string(msg), sqlca.sqlcode);
and here is the PL/SQL which is invoked:

where sumsg_msg_data.msg_data%TYPE, sumsg_msg_data.msg_data1%TYPE and sumsg_msg_data.msg_data2%TYPE are all defined as RAW(2000). When I test the PL/SQL code seperately, everything is ok, but if I use the Pro*C code to read, the ORA-01458 always happen, unless I change the SIZE_DATA_SEG value to 4000, then it passes, and the result read out also seems ok, either the bigger or smaller value will encounter ORA-01458.
I think the problem should happen between the mapping from internal datatype to external VARRAW type, but cannot understand why 4000 bytes buffer will be ok, is it related to some NLS_LANG settings, anyone can help me to resolve this problme, thanks a lot!It seems that I found the way to avoid this error. Now each time before I read RAW(2000) data from database, i initialize the VARRAW.len first, set its value to SIZE_DATA_SEG, i.e., the outside buffer size, then the error disappear.
Oracle seems to need this information to handle its data mapping, but why output variable also needs this initialization, cannot precompiler get this from the definition of VARRAW structure?
Anyone have some suggestion? -

Here i am using above method using forall because of large volume of data.Which is a FLAWED approach. Always.
FORALL is not suited to "move/copy" large amounts of data from one table to another.
Any suggestion ?Use only SQL. It is faster. It has less overheads. It can execute in parallel.
So execute it in parallel to move/copy that data. You can roll this manually via the DBMS_PARALLEL_EXECUTE interface. Simplistic example:
declare
taskName varchar2(30) default 'PQ-task-1';
parallelSql varchar2(1000);
begin
--// create trask
DBMS_PARALLEL_EXECUTE.create_task( taskName );
--// chunk the table by rowid ranges
DBMS_PARALLEL_EXECUTE.create_chunks_by_rowid(
task_name => taskName,
table_owner => user,
table_name => 'D_ACCT_MNTH',
by_row => true,
chunk_size => 100000
--// create insert..select statement to copy a chunk of rows
parallelSql := 'insert into acct_f_acct_mth select * from d_acct_mnth
where rowid between :start_id and :end_id';
--// run the task using 5 parallel processes
DBMS_PARALLEL_EXECUTE.Run_Task(
task_name => taskName,
sql_stmt => parallelSql,
language_flag => DBMS_SQL.NATIVE,
parallel_level => 5
--// wait for it to complete
while DBMS_PARALLEL_EXECUTE.task_status( taskName ) != DBMS_PARALLEL_EXECUTE.Finished loop
DBMS_LOCK.Sleep(10);
end loop;
--// remove task
DBMS_PARALLEL_EXECUTE.drop_task( taskName );
end;
/Details in Oracle® Database PL/SQL Packages and Types Reference guide.
For 10g, the EXACT SAME approach can be used - by determining the rowid chunks/ranges via a SQL and then manually running parallel processes as DBMS_JOB. See {message:id=1108593} for details. -
Hi,
I am trying to upgrade the database from 11.1.0.6 to 11.1.0.7 on OEL operating system.
After applying the patch "6890831" when trying to start the database using "Startup Upgrade" command I am getting the below error.
ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel
Process ID: 20826
Session ID: 170 Serial number: 3
I am getting the same error when trying to create the new database using "DBCA".
Please provide me the probable outcomes.
Thanks

ORA-12547 error while creating new database through dbca
i installed oracle 10g R2 on parallels virtuozzo container. (it is a product similar to openvz and solaris containers)
added: oracle version is 10.2.0.1.0
the installation goes off without too much fuss but when i try to create a general purpose database through dbca it throws up an error
ORA-12547 : TNS lost contact
my listener is up and runing and did stop and restart it. i also created a new listener after deleting the previous one.
still the error persists.

The command completed successfullyi am running dbca from oracle user only and i did ensure that the contents of the oracle home directory (on which oracle is installed) has permissions of oracle:oinstall.
i am clueless as to what is causing this error.
just to add to issues which i faced during installation on virtuozzo containers. containers does not allow me to create a swap space. but i had to ignore the error and go ahead with the installation with most of the steps followed from http://wiki.openvz.org/Oracle_10g_VE.
please guide

virtuozzo during creation of containers doesnt install the following.
sysstat-5.0.5-1
libaio-0.3.103-3
libaio-0.3.103-3 (i386)

the oracle documentation tells us to install the following and so i didnt know i had to install other packages as well.
make-3.79.1
gcc-3.2.3-34
glibc-2.3.2-95.20

Get ORA-12560 error while accessing 11g database
Database version: 11.2.0.1.0
This is a development database running on CentOS. We had setup this database recently and everything has been fine. Today I noticed that when I connect to the database from remote, I get the following error -
ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
I'm able to get in to the database after logging in directly into the database server via putty. I have stopped & restarted the database, but with no help. I have checked the environment variables (ORACLE_HOME, ORACLE_SID) and they seem to be fine.
Can you please help on what might be the problem here? Is this something to do with some change in the OS firewall setting?

APP-RG-09518: An error occurred while creating a database link
Hi All,
While creating a database link in Oracle EBS from one instance to another instance for transferring FSG reports
Go to Any GL Setup responsibility...Setup>System>Database links > Create new database link
Prior to the above...below steps should be done on the server.
1.grant create database link to <apps.user>; (on db server)
2.source tns entry should be in destination tns file and destination tns entry in source tns file. (check tnsping after entry)
3.*make sure destination tns entry of 8.0.6 oracle home should be in source tns file* (Because we are creating db link for the application)
4.Run the Program FSG Report.
Regards,
Harish Muramshetty.Hi,
I have solved the issue as below:
This error was started when I install a software which I have made myself and it uses sql server compact edition 3.5.
I saw when I manually replaced the sql related files from "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition\v3.5" with the files which my software setup had "version 3.5.5386.0" then the error started. And if copy back the latest version 3.5.8080.0
then it disappear. So use latest sql files in your software too.
My software was replacing the the latest files with older version.
