ORA-01948 when trying to drop ASM disk

Running 11.2.0.2.0 on OEL5.7(x86_64), I've got a bunch of ISCSI mounts attached to an ASM diskgroup, and am in the process of walking the diskgroup over from one SAN to another. All is well until I try to drop a disk:
<blockquote><pre>SQL> alter diskgroup data drop disk '/dev/disk/by-path/ip-10.1.7.210:3260-iscsi-iqn.2001-05.com.equallogic:0-8a0906-dfa328d08-e570000016f4e8a2-apsuat2-data-1-lun-0';
alter diskgroup data drop disk '/dev/disk/by-path/ip-10.1.7.210:3260-iscsi-iqn.2001-05.com.equallogic:0-8a0906-dfa328d08-e570000016f4e8a2-apsuat2-data-1-lun-0'
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-01948: identifier's name length (126) exceeds maximum (30)</pre></blockquote>
Obviously some parameter in the ASM config is set to 30 and needs to be considerably longer, but I've googled around and still can't find the answer. We commonly use /dev/disk/by-path/*
I'm wondering - is it possible that we missed a param when we upgraded this machine from 11.1.0.7? But mainly that param is the one I'm looking for.

How did you add this disk when you wre creating ASM diskgroup? It seems that oracle is not accepting the disk name larger than 30 characters. Can you first try to find out disk name from V$asm_disk_stat view and then use this name in the DROP statement.
select name from V$asm_disk_stat;Salman

    Can anybody help me in determining the problem ? Is there a systemtic incompatibility in connecting a 7.1.3 client to a 9.2 (or even higher) database ?

    Thanks for your reply.
    But the funny thing on this compatibility issues is, that this configuration worked before. The only thing we did, was to setup the client-PC on a new hardware with also a new operating system (upgrading from Solaris 5.8 to 5.10). And from that time we encountered this problem.
    Are there any OS-related problems known or better to say: is (was) ORACLE 7.1.3 supported on Solaris 5.10 ? Should we look for any patches which might help us ?

    Why does idisc quit unexpectedly when trying to burn a disk?

    Since iDisk is an online service for keeping your data and has nothing to do with burning CDs or DVDs, you must be thinking of something else. What application are you using to burn? the Finder? iTunes? iDVD? Toast? Or something else?
    Is there an error message that appears when this occurs?
    Let us know, we'll keep working with you.

  • Why I can't drop ASM disks and stop ASMLib ?

    Hi, I wanted to delete disks but this operation failed:
    1.
    /etc/init.d/oracleasm deletedisk DATA1
    Removing ASM disk "DATA1" [FAILED]
    I know there is solution to overwrite ASM header information on a disk
    dd if=/dev/zero of=<your_raw_device> bs=1024 count=100
    and then droping is successful
    but I also saw resources that said it should be count=50
    Could anyone confirm count=100 or 50 ?
    2.
    Besides of that I tried to stop ASMLib and it failed too:
    /etc/init.d/oracleasm stop
    Dropping Oracle ASMLib disks: [  OK  ]
    Shutting down the Oracle ASMLib driver: [FAILED]
    Ok, so using dd will help me to get rid of disks, but I worry about ASMLib in general, why I can't stop it? All ASM instances were removed before. There is no ASM software installed, besides ASMLib.

    The story is like that:
    During Grid Infrastructure 11.2 installation I wanted to create new disk group but all available disks ware marked as 'MEMBER', so that I couldn't use any of them. Then I investigated that there is no database using ASM, and no ASM software installed. But ASMLib lists some disks. So former diskgroups must have been dropped in a bad way. As disks are marked as 'MEMBER' I wanted to drop them and create new ones. But this operation failed.
    Yes, I use root account
    oracleasm exit failed too:
    oracleasm exit
    Unmounting ASMlib driver filesystem: failed
    Unable to unmount ASMlib driver filesystem
    /var/log/oracleasm :
    Cleaning any stale ASM disks...
    Unmounting ASMlib driver filesystem: umount: /dev/oracleasm: device is busy
    umount: /dev/oracleasm: device is busy
    failed
    Unable to unmount ASMlib driver filesystem
    How to deal with this problem? Please help.

    I am trying to connect to database and run an simple select query to a table(without any where clause) using pro*fortran code.
    the connect strng is like
    exec sql connect :uidpwd
    where uidpwd = username/password@SID
    SID and tnsnames connect string are the same.
    The fortran (profortran) code is placed in the database server and there are no errors when make is run.
    Tnsping is working fine, also i am able to conect using sql*plus and run the same query.
    Please help
    Thanks and Regards

    Hi Nitin
    Thanks for the helpful! With your point I'm now Pro! Great thanks.
    By the way have your seen that?
    Files such as LISTENER.ORA, TNSNAMES.ORA, SQLNET.ORA, if configured manually, or copied and edited from earlier releases of Oracle Database may have record attributes that are incompatible with Oracle Database 10g release 2. The software cannot read such files. The required record format is stream_lf and the record attributes are carriage_control and carriage_return.
    This may result in:
    Inability to start the listener
    Services not registered with the listener
    Inability to connect to other databases
    ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve service name
    Run the following command on each file affected:
    $ DIR/FULL filename
    An output similar to the following may be displayed:
    Record format: Variable length, maximum 255 bytes
    Record attributes: Carriage return carriage control
    If the output includes the preceding entries, then run the following command:
    $ CONVERT/FDL=SYS$INPUT filename filename
    RECORD
    CARRIAGE_CONTROL CARRIAGE_RETURN
    FORMAT STREAM_LF
    ^Z
    Otherwise herewith an interesting metalink note. Doc ID:      Note:437597.1

  • ORA-20001 When trying to default page element to sysdate

    Hello,
    I have a master detail with last updated in the detail that I want to autopopulate based on sysdate.
    To do that I have Tabular Form Attributes set to sysdate and default type PL/SQL Expression or function.
    The display as is set to "Display as Text(saves state).
    I would like to format the date which I do with Column Attributes and then specify the Number Data Format.
    When I click add row in the detai part of the pagethe date is displayed as desired however then I try and
    apply the changes (save the page) I get ORA-20001: Found invalid date value, please verify date format. (Row 2)
    I have tried formatting the date in the PL/SQL expression with TO_DATE(SYSDATE,'DD-MON-YYYY HH24:MI')
    with the same result.
    If I change the element to Text Field the date is saved correctly however I don't want the user to edit the
    feild.
    Any suggestions? Using APEX 4.1

    I have the same issue.
    1. DEFAULT=SYSDATE when using format mask='DD-MON-YYYY HH24:MI:SS' causes the time portion to appear but ORA-20001 when submitting the row.
    2. Since the base column datatype is DATE, a simple to_char(SYSDATE,'DD-MON-YYYY HH24:MI:SS') obviously causes ORA-01790: expression must have same datatype as corresponding expression.
    3. A to_date(to_char(SYSDATE,'DD-MON-YYYY HH24:MI:SS'),'DD-MON-YYYY HH24:MI:SS') leads to the same error: ORA-20001: Found invalid date value, please verify date format.
    Does anyone know the trick?

  • ORA-24777 when trying to call multiple Oracle SPs...

    I had a SP in Oracle that called another SP in a SQL Server DB via DBLink. I was calling the Oracle SP from VB.NET (3.5) and because of transaction commiting I was not able to do this, so I removed the SQL SERVER SP call from inside the Oracle SP. However, I still get a ORA-24777 error: use of non-migratable database link not allowed.
    If I removed the reference to the other DB, why would I still get an error referencing the DBLINK?
    I'm using Oracle 10.2 and VB.NET (3.5).
    old SP CODE:
    I have a package called USP_VALIDATION
    In the package body, I was calling BATCH(Queue, RefNo) [a procedure in USP_VALIDATION]
    In this BATCH procedure, I would call SP_GET_BILLING_OPTION_TCIS(accNo, lclBillingOption) [note TCIS is the SQL DB and lclBillingOption would be the TCIS billing option]
    ... do something with lclBillingOption
    I changed this to the following:
    In the package body, I now call BATCH(Queue, RefNo, BillingOption)
    In this new BATCH procedured, I now DON'T call SP_GET_BILLING_OPTION_TCIS as I already retrieved it first before I call USP_VALIDATION in the .NET code
    ... do something with the BillingOption passed in as a parameter when calling BATCH.
    What I'm really trying to do is make sure that the transaction commitment/rollback is handled correctly in the following senario.
    What happened before was because the one SP was calling another SQL database via DBLINK, it was not working correctly. So we removed the DBLINK and now call the SQL database before we do any action with the Oracle SPs.
    Here is my code in .NET:
    Public Function EnrollElectricCustomer(ByVal EnrollParameters As IEnrollmentParameters) As IEnrolleSearch Implements Interfaces.IEnrollmentManager.EnrollElectricCustomer
            Dim dacRCES As New Dac.RC.EnrolleeDataService()

                    dacRCES.RefreshElectricAccount(refreshstring)
                    'once refreshed, we need to also run VALIDATION on this enrollent record...
    *' NOTE THAT THIS SP used to CALL SQL via DBLINK but no longer does....*
                    dacRCES.ValidateElectricEnrollment(WorkQID,oBillingOption)

                If WorkQID > 0 Then
                    'now we need to retrieve the account enrollment record...
                    enrolleeSearch = dacRCES.FindEnrolleeByEnrollID(WorkQID, ServiceTypeEnum.Electric)

            End Try
            Return enrolleeSearch
        End FunctionI'm concerned that if any one of the various calls fails, I want to rollback the ENTIRE transaction. Right now I
    a) insert the row into a table in Oracle,
    b) get detailed information on this account from another database (DB2),
    c) refresh the data in the Oracle DB on this account,
    d) validate the record added (business rules) and then when all done,
    e) to submit the account (which changes statuses for later use).
    If I insert the record but it fails at step d say, I want to rollback everything and remove the record from the Oracle table...

    EDIT1:
    You posted an edit including code while I was typing original response.
    You may find the following My Oracle Support note helpful. It applies to ODP.NET as well.
    ORA-24777 When Selecting Across a Database Link With Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle [ID 397555.1]
    Just to confirm - is the database link used at all now?
    I know you said that the stored procedure is no longer called, but is the link still used for anything else?
    Also, do you have a call stack from when the exception is raised?

  • Disk icon won't drag when trying to restore in disk utility

    Hello
    Not sure what I'm doing wrong but when trying to back up my (original) Macbook Pro onto an external hard drive (to create a bootable backup) the MBP disk icon won't drag into the Source of Disk Utility Restore....
    Have booted from the MBP disk etc. Am running Tiger w/latest software update. Tried using a mouse rather than the touchpad, but no luck either...
    Any suggestions?
    Many thanks.

    Disk Utility is not very prolix when it comes to error handling. Try this:
    Start "Utilities -> Terminal App"
    in terminal start:
    "/Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.app/Contents/MacOS/Disk Utility"
    the normal disk utility comes up. Try what you want to do - and check for error messages on the command line. maybe you can correct the problem.
    -------------- IF THAT FAILS AND YOU WANT TO RESTORE IT BY HAND:
    use the disk utility to
    1. mount your target drive
    - double click on the target drive - make sure it's mounted
    2. get information about target drive
    - click the PARTITION (not disk) you want to restore
    - click INFO. Note the Disk Identifier e.g. disk0s2
    3. mount your source image
    - go to 'restore' of some drive. select image
    - search for the image to restore
    - image comes up in list on the left. double click it
    close the disk utility.
    open Terminal.
    check with 'ls /Volumes/' which Volumes are mounted. Check which Volume is your SOURCE.
    you can use 'asr' to restore your drive e.G.:
    asr restore --source "/Volumes/Mac HD" --target /dev/disk0s2 --erase
    PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU GIVE THE CORRECT SOURCE AND ESPECIALLY TARGET!
    asr is the restore tool used by disk utility. Be sure to have a second backup of all your data. If you use it in the wrong way, you can delete all data (including the backup attached via USB).

    At least I think this is strange behavior, following the instructions in the help viewer, topic "Backing up your music to a CD or DVD." One thing for sure, it's not burning a disc and it ain't telling me why.

    Of the types I've tried, the Sony DVD's have been the best for me. Haven't tried many types though. Maybe I can get disks one at a time until I find a brand my burner likes.
    Still, isn't it strange that there is NO error message? It just quits?

    This is what's in the control file:
    LOAD DATA

    INTO TABLE purchaseOrder TRUNCATE
    xmltype(xmldata)
    FIELDS
    xmldata LOBFILE (CONSTANT ipo.xml)
    BEGINDATA
    0
    The load fails with:
    Record 1: Rejected - Error on table PURCHASEORDER.
    ORA-22805: cannot insert NULL object into object tables or nested tables
    Another question I have is, how do we know how many records (0's) to specify in the control file? In this case there's only one but when real files are used we won't know how many are in the file.
    Thanks for your help!

    The concept was "Don't use SQL*Loader to parse XML".
    You can use SQL*Loader to load an entire XML document into the DB. That is fine. You can do the same via BFILENAME to read in files from disk as well.
    If you want to parse XML, do that from within Oracle via PL/SQL and/or SQL. The solution depends upon your version of Oracle and what is good enough for you in terms of performance.
    So the basics are
    a) How am I getting the information?
    b) How am I getting in into Oracle?
    c) How do I want to parse it?
    As I see the schema, it only allows for one ipo:purchaseOrder node in the document, since that is the root node. If you have multiple in the incoming file, you no longer have valid XML, both per the schema and because you have no single root node. You have an XML fragment, which must be treated different.
    Just trying to understand the question since I now realize it does not agree with what the schema in your initial example shows.

  • ORA-2020 when trying to verify database links

    I have a problem with verifying database links. I want to create a procedure for checking all database links. this is done like the following:
    declare
    xRefCursor sys_refcursor;
    cursor cDBLinks is
    select db_link
    from user_db_links;
    nDummy number;
    begin
    for rL in cDBLinks loop
    begin
    open xRefCursor for 'select 1 from dual@'||rL.db_link;
    fetch xRefCursor into nDummy;
    close xRefCursor;
    dbms_output.put_line(rL.db_link||' established');
    exception
    when others then
    if xRefCursor%isopen then
    close xRefCursor;
    end if;
    dbms_output.put_line(rL.db_link||' error '||sqlerrm);
    end;
    end loop;
    end;
    when running the procedure, I get a ORA-2020 : too many database links in use
    Cause: The current session has exceeded the INIT.ORA OPEN_LINKS maximum.
    Action: Increase the OPEN_LINKS limit, or free up some open links by committing or rolling back the transaction and canceling open cursors that reference remote databases
    exact after the count of database links specified in the OPEN_LINKS parameter. As you can see I don't issue any transaction, and also I close every cursor I open...so there should be just one db link active in time. note that increasing the OPEN_LINKS parameter will not be a good solution, as I can't tell how much links are existing for a user.
    any suggestions?
    regards
    Christian
    oh, forgot to mention: tried this with 9.2.0.6 and 10.2.0.3 on WINDOWS (so I believe this also occurs in 9.2.0.6 <= DBVersion <= 10.2.0.3)

    As you can see I don't issue any transaction, and also I close every cursor I
    open...so there should be just one db link active in time.This is wrong assumption. The closing of the cursor does not mean DB link will be closed too. You have to close database link explicitly.

    28545 is a configuration issue -
    Have a look into your listener.ora file . it lists an Oracle_home 11.2.0 but the executable you specified in the listener.ora file is hsodbc which was its name in 10g. In 11g the executable is now called dg4odbc.
    So please correct your listener.ora entry:
    (SID_DESC =
    (SID_NAME= MDB)
    (ORACLE_HOME = C:\app\Administrator\product\11.2.0\dbhome_4)
    (PROGRAM = dg4odbc) #### use dg4odbc instead of hsodbc
    Now STOP and START the listener using lsnrctl command (lsnrctl stop listener01 - lsnrctl start listener01)
    When it continues to fail, please provide me the output of the listener status listener01 command, the tnsping command output and which windows version (including the word size -32/64bit) and Oracle dg4odbc release you are trying to use.

  • Extreme router reboots when trying to connect to disk after 7.1.1 update??

    I just brought my new AE-n router home not more than 2 hours ago. I connected a USB disk to it and it was discovering it and was able to transfer quickly to it.
    However, I updated my firmware to 7.1.1 and whenever I try to manually connect to the disk, my router restarts itself. I've tried resetting the disk and unplugging the router. I have not changed any settings other than the firmware.
    Anyone have an idea? Can I try putting the old firmware back on? Thanks.

    Ok, I did that. UPDATE:
    I downloaded 7.0 and 7.1. I installed both and also tried resetting the router after each firmware install.
    The problem occurs when I try to manually connect to the disk using the disk utility. After I'm prompted and enter my login info, the disk light looks like it's being read and immediately after, the light turns amber and the router reboots.
    I'm currently using 7.1. I can get the disk to connect fine when I reset everything, configure the router to my specs and then turn the USB disk on. HOWEVER, once I turn off the disk and then turn it back on, I can try to connect to it and the router will reboot again. Obviously I want the option to turn my disk off at night. 7.0 didn't even work at all, barely.
    Any ideas??
