    ORA-01991: invalid password file 'C:\oracle\ora92\DATABASE\PWDhubdb.ORA'
    I don't have any ideas?
    Amy

    Dear Amy!
    Symptom:
When trying to open (or mount) a database the following error is generated:
ORA-01991: invalid password file '...PWDOrcl.ora'Where ‘Orcl’ is the SID of the database instance.
    Cause:
Typically some corruption of the password file, or possibly the password file is for another database instance?
    Possible Remedies:
If encountered when creating the database then it is because Oracle expects to create the password file but it already exists. In this instance database creation will have failed. Delete the password file and try again.
If it is suspected that the password file is corrupt then try deleting it and recreating it:
    1. Delete the existing password file.
    2.Create a new/replacement password file:
orapwd file=<path>\PWD<sid>.ora password=oracleUse the same path as given in the Oracle error. The password specified will be the new internal password.
    Yours sincerely
    Florian W.

    Thanx.

    NPD.
The possibility is that probably the password file in use is some how tried to be opened up and have got corrupted or may be due to some other error over h/w or some thing like that ,its corrupted. The best option would be
    0) Shut abort the current instance.
    1) Go to the location,*'/u1/ora902/dbs* and delete the password file.
    2) Use ORAPWD and create a new one. You may use this command syntax,
    orapwd file='/u1/ora902/dbs/pwd<sidofyours>.ora' password=password enteries=some_number 3)Issue startup again.
    Hope this would resolve it.

  • ORA-01017: invalid username/password; how to find out orapwd files 's pwd

    Hi, gurus,
I have this error after I copied primary db orapwd files over to standby instance and tried to log in sys as sysdba :
    ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied
Is this means the sys password I provided is not the one generated as per orapwd utility?
however I can log in to sys/password as sysdba if I set the oracle sid environemnt to that db.
    Anybody help here?
    Thanks.

    Hello;
In that case you would have to change the SYS password at the Primary ( so you know it ) and then do the copy and rename again.
Don't forget to stop apply on the standby and then shutdown and restart on the new password file. ( or you will have issues )
    Proof :
Re: Transport service doesn't work with error  ORA-16191
    Best Regards

    Double check of my notes
    ORA-01017
Change the sys password in the primary database using the alter system command, it updates the password file in the ORACLE_HOME of the primary database, it doesn't update password file in the standby database.
In Oracle 10 you can create a password file. In Oracle 11 you must move a new copy to the standby.

Therefore, if the database domain of the remote database is different from that of the current database, then you must specify the complete service name.

-bash-3.00$ sqlplus IRES_USER/U9$bvs#ir@DBBecaue of the dollar-sign, The shell is trying to expand the environment variable $bvs#ir@DB
Of course you have no environment variable by that name so what gets passed to sqlplus is not "IRES_USER/U9$bvs#ir@DB", but rather "IRES_USER/U9"
In your first test, you didn't pass the password on the command line, so the shell didn't get a chance to intercept it.
You can have a similar issue if you have a '@' in your password
oracle> sqlplus scott/P@ssword@orclTns will catch that first "@" as the delimiter to the tns string, and come up with something that cant' be resolved.

  • ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied. but SQLPLUS works

"ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied" when attempting to log on to db, in three different applications. Error is observed in Toad, Crystal Reports, and MS ODBC Administrator connect test. However, same db credentials work in SQLPLUS.
Customer is attempting to log into reporting database hosted by my company, and using Cisco VPN client.
I am unable to reproduce this at this time, on my machine, using same credentials and VPN profile.
    Here is what we know/tried:
    1. PING HOSTNAME is successful on CUSTOMER’S machine
    2. TNSPING HOSTNAME is successful on CUSTOMER’S machine
    3. SQLPLUS is successful with USER2/(pw)@HOSTNAME.int on CUSTOMER’S machine
    4. We corrected timeout error on CUSTOMER’S side, by adding TCP.CONNECT_TIMEOUT=1000 in SQLNET.ORA (Also observed extremely slow performance on CUSTOMER SIDE)
    5. We corrected dns suffix problem on CUSTOMER’S side, observed in NSLOOKUP by
adding: IP ADDRESS AND HOSTNAME to Windows HOSTS file
and commenting out default suffix COMPANY.com from SQLNET.ORA file
    6. VPN configuration and VPN credentials are good.
We tested CUSTOMER’S VPN profle, CUSTOMER’S VPN credentials, and user USER2/(pw)@HOSTNAME on my machine (WIN7). I am able to maintain persistant connection to HOSTNAME for hours
    7. TNSNames entries are good. Able to connect to db in Toad, and Crystal, on CUSTOMER’S machine using different Oracle user, USER3 (only has grant connect). Unable to logon to db, with Oracle user USER1, or USER2. (USER2 was created to try to resolve login problem w USER1, but issue still exists.)
    8. CUSTOMER has Windows VISTA, does not have admin privileges, has Oracle 10 installed for client. Using same Cisco VPN client I have installed.
    9. Database on our servers is 11g
I suspect a configuration issue with CUSTOMER'S Vista machine, OR network, but not sure what to check.

    Hi,
please check ur using password file or not,if ur not using then create a passwordfile,if ur using password file then check its is corrupted or not by connecting to database using below string
    sys/xxx@TWO_TASK as sysdba
for creating password file follow below document
dont forget to set remote_login_passwordfile = exclusive in initSID.ora file
ORA-01994: GRANT failed: password file missing or disabled [ID 392027.1]
dont forget to grant sysdba to sys in database and change the sys password in order to get it added in password file then check with below connection string

  • ORA-01017 invalid username and password on remote connection.

    1. Server: Windows 2003 service Pack 2 64 bit
    2. Oracle 10.2.0.4
I created a new database and setup everything. Database is up running. At second day, I tried to connect this database from a remote client laptop. A normal user connection is working (I changed sqlnet.ora file to SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES = (NONE)). but I couldn't connect as SYS or SYSTEM users through SQLPLUS or Third party SQL tool. It gave me ORA-01017 error. My steps like:
    C:> set Oracle_sid=mydb
    C:>sqlplus /nolog
    SQL:>conn sys/syspassword as sysdba
    ORA-01017
However, I remotely log on to server machine, do the same steps
    C:> set Oracle_sid=mydb
    C:>sqlplus /nolog
    SQL:>conn sys/syspassword as sysdba
    SQL:> connected
What caused this error from remote client connection. I have done some search to resolve the problem. Some suggest to re-create password file or create OPS$user. I just setup SYS password during database creation. So I don't want to re-create password file. I have another client machine in office that can connect as SYS and SYSTEM users either from server or from SQLPLUS on client machine without problem. So the issue is on my laptop that is connected to database remotely. Please give me some advices. Thanks.

Thanks for all of your advices. I want to say:
    1. I just created this new database yesterday and created SYS password during database creation from another clinet machine in my office. All connections are working. This is why I don't want to change the password at this moment. If I re-create password file, will this affect another client machine in office to connect to DB as sysdba?
    2. From server, I can connect. I used the same sys/syspassword as sysdba. If the password is wrong, I would not be able to connect from server.
    3. When I tried to connect from remote client machine, I do connect with string like: SQL:> conn sys/syspassword@mydb as sysdba. But it didn't work and return ORA-01017 error.
    4. I have other 4 databases on different servers. I can connect from the same remote client machine through SQLPLUS and TOAD with sys as sysdba and system.
    Please advise more. Thanks.
