In these databases there is a database link which connects to a Oracle8 Release 8.0.5.1.0
In one database the link works fine in another database i receive this error ORA-03134: Connections to this server version are no longer supported.

*Bug 3437884 - 10g client cannot connect to 8.1.7.0 - 8.1.7.3 server [ID 3437884.8]*
Edited by: CKPT on Aug 20, 2010 3:45 PM -
Hi everybody,
I have installed on my laptop Oracle 8.1.6.0.0 Enterprise Edition, and after that Oracle 10.2.0.1 Enterprise Edition, and the two versions of Oracle are installed under the same operating system (which is XP SP2). When I use TOAD, I can connect to Oracle 8.1.6.0.0 database and to Oracle 10.2.0.1 database also. But when I use PowerBuilder 9.0 Enterprise Version to connect to Oracle 8.1.6.0.0 database , I have the error ORA-03134 "Connections to this server version are no longer supported". I "googled" for this ORA-03134 error , and the articles I saw say that this error is due to the fact that the 10g client can not connect to the 8i server. My question is the following: how to do so that when I use PowerBuilder 9.0 it's the 8i client -and not the 10g client- which connects to
the 8i server (because it seems like the error I have when I want to connect to Oracle 8.1.6.0.0 from PowerBuilder 9.0 is due to the fact that in this case it's 10g client which tries to connect to the 8i database).
Thanks in advance for your answers. What do you want with 8.1.6? It's desupported and was NEVER supported on XP. Even if the actual problem disappears,I would expect other problems still to arise.

New to Oracle (ora-03134)
I have an application that I need to connect to an old Oracle db. The application is working on the server where the Oracle db is running but requires some updates (I do not have the ability to run or change code on the server). I have setup a web server on my laptop and am trying to duplicate the original code base and get connected to the Oracle server db. I have tried the original code and always receive the same error code ora-03134 "Connections to this server version are no longer supported". I have tried some connection debug tools and get the same error.
How do I determine the version of the server? How do I debug the connection dialog in order to determine the changes needed to make it work?Unfortunately connection is my difficulty. Here is what I believe to be the case:
Server Version 7.3.4
My client version depends on what piece you are asking about. The scripts are php so I have a php_oci8.dll extention loaded in the UniformServer version 3.5, along with that have
instantclient-basic-win32-10.2.0.3-20061115.zip
and
instantclient-sqlplus-win32-10.2.0.3-20061115.zip
loaded. I do realize that the versions are very far apart but have not found any specific evidence that these are uncompatible. The only evidence I have is the error message. I have spent some time looking for earlier versions of the php extention, instant client, and sqlplus without any luck. -
Hello,
I'm using unixODBC with ODBC Oracle client 11 (Debian 7) to connect to Oracle database version 9.2.0.6 (Solaris 10), but show me this message:
[S1000][unixODBC][Oracle][ODBC][Ora]ORA-03134: Connections to this server version are no longer supported.
Note: I can connect to Oracle database version 10+.
Please can you help me.
Thank youAre you positive you're using version 11 Oracle client and 9206 database? That combination should work, and Ive never seen that error message occur for anything but the expected reason.
If you have MOS access you can check the client/database compatibility with the following note:

Hope it helps,

TOAD 8.5 with Oracle Instant Client 10: ORA-03134
Hi,
I have tried TOAD 8.5.0.50 and also TOra 1.3.16 to connect to the database via Oracle Instant Client 10, but I am restricted with this error message:
"ORA-03134: Connections to this server version are no longer supported."
Does anyone have any idea what is wrong? Earlier version of TOAD works alright. We are using Oracle 8i. Are there any compatibility issues between Oracle database version with Oracle Instant Client version?
Thanks.Just want to share with everyone. This is a reply that I got from another forum:
this is a oracle bug!
connections with the 10g client are supported to 8.1.7.0 and above.
the bug in the client causes this error.
you are only able to connect to 8.1.7.4 and above.
i made a service request but oracle is not able to patch the
instant client.
you have to use 10.1.0.3 client or above

Hello,
Forms 10g running under Oracle RDBMS 10g (Windows XP) gives me this error:
ORA-03134 Connections to this server are no longer supported
The latest patch to Oracle 10g was applied (this supposedly should have corrected the problem).
Has anyone encountered this problem and how did you correct the problem?
Thanks,
gkORA-03134: Connections to this server version are no longer supportedThis is not problem, this is correct behaviour because connections to older releases (than 9i) since 10g are not supported. So you need use client <10g
Can download older instantclient version to connect on ?No, instant client was created since 10g. So you need to download regular 9i (R2) client. -
hi.
i want to access by an client instant (10.1.0.2.0) on my linux to a oracle server (8.1.7.0.0) on windows nt.
i donwloaded the basic et sqlplus package from :
* http://otn.oracle.com/software/tech/oci/instantclient/htdocs/linuxsoft.html
then install : don't problem.
but after putting the good variables (tns_admin, path, ld_libray_pathsqlpath) : i launch sqlplus user@data.
And the error message :
"ORA-03134 : connections to this server version are no longer supported".
How to ?
Thanks for any idea.
PS : i don't find any package linux for sqlplus v8...
--stHm, I think 10.x requires at least 8.1.7.4 on the other side. (will try it myself evetually, but Oracle 10.x is too soon, at least this year ;))

Hi,
I am using the ODP.NET 11.2 (Oracle.DataAccess.dll 4.112.3.0) for .NET 4.5 (in Visual Studio 2012). I can connect to 11g Databases but when trying to connect to 9.2.0.8 database this error is thrown:
ORA-03134: Connections to this server version are no longer supported
I don't understand why, as I could connect using Toad, but not from a .NET application.
By the way, I'm using Windows 7 64bits.
Any idea?
Thanks in advance,
DaveThanks Mark for looking into this.

As you can see, I have been trying with different versions but nothing. Anyway, as far as I know if the referenced library in VStudio is marked as CopyToLocal, it shouldn't take any library from GAC.
And SQL query is returning this info:

Hello,
I'm using Oracle Client 10.2.0.1.0 and I'm trying to connect to an Oracle server 8.0.5.0.0
The reason about this error is clear (connections with this server version are no longer supported)... but is there anything I can do to avoid it?
... without upgrading the Oracle Server, of course, because I can't...
Thank you for any suggestions.
RegardsYour only option would be to install an earlier version of the Oracle client. You'd have to look up the compatibility matrix on Metalink to see how far back you'd have to go, but I believe that you'd need to go back to 9.0.1 or earlier.

ORA-03134: Connections to this server version are no longer supported.
I have this error when trying to connect using Oracle DS 10.1.2.0.2 which comes with Oracle Net 10.1.0.4.2 to a 8.1.7.0.0 database.
I can use Oracle DB 10g 10.2.0.1.0 bundle with Oracle Net 10.2.0.0.0 to connect to 8.1.7.0.0 database
Anyone knows how to upgrade the Oracle Net in DS to 10.2.0.0.0?
Or is there a work around to solve this problem?
I need to connect from current DS 10g to 8i database.
Thank youYou missed giving us the version of the Oracle client libraries you use. You'll need this to be 11.2 or earlier if you want to connect to a 9i DB.

Hello
I am new to oracle and am trying to connect via VS2010 to an oracle database and get the error Connections to this server version are no longer supported.
Having googled it looks like 8.1.7+ are supported by the 11g instant client so I have to assume my version is below that (the best I know is that it is 8.1.x)
Given I cannot updtae the database to another version and have little interest from IT for help - is there an older client version I can download to connect?
Many thanks in advance!Hi,
Please post your question in the appropriate forum.

Hi folks,
We are having an application that uses oracle 8 client to connect to an oracle server 8.1.7.3. Now we have decided to migrate the platform and introduced oracle client 10.1.0.3 in solaris 2.9 , which still connects to the same server 8.1.7.3. When we did some testing we found that the application was not able to reestablish the session. With 8 client , oracle is returning an ORA - code 3113 when the connectivity is not there. But with 10.1.0.3, we found that it is returning the following ORA error codes
ORA 12152 - TNS unable to send break messages
ORA-3114 - NOT connected to Oracle
In our code we were checking only for 3113 to test for connection lost. Now we changed the code and also included ORA codes 3114 and 12152 where we does the checking. Now the appln is working fine, but it is taking around 10 minutes for the appln to reestablish the session , once it detects that the session has expired. Is there any parameter on the oracle client which can be modified so that reconnection takes place without any delaywe were initially planning to use oracle client 10.1.0.2 after migration. But using this we were not able to connect to 8.1.7.3 server.. we were getting the ora 03134 exception. thats when we decided to change our client to 10.1.0.3 and it is able to connect successfully. The problem here is with the delay. The application is taking nearly 10 minutes to reestablish the session , and all calls made during this time gets failed..we suspect there may be some parameters in client(or server) settings which is causing this.. any help in this regard will be highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance -
