Ora-04062 when changing db connect

Hi,
when I work with a database REF CURSOR used in a record group in Oracle Forms to populate a LOV (Forms 6.0, SQL*Plus 8.0, Oracle 7.3x DB) I must use the same database at runtime which I used to compile the form.
When I use another database with the same objects (i.e. test database and production database) to run the form error ORA-04062 occurs.
How can I solve this problem without compile my form for every single database which means to maintain 1..n forms in the end?
You would help my very very...

Well, thats classic.
One way around in certain situations could be using forms_ddl when calling stored procs.
Or, if you have a function (say my_pack.my_func) that does not write to DB tables or procs, instead of calling it in the classic way:
my_var:=my_pack.my_func(...);
you should call it in the following way:
select my_pack.my_func(...) into my_var from dual;
which is guaranteed to work when connecting to another DB. Remember that my_func has to be inside a package (my_pack) and in the package spec of my_pack you should have:
pragma restrict_references(my_func, wnds, wnps);
When porting the application to another DB we simply have to recompile all the forms that make calls to stored procs in order to be sure they will run.
That's because the timestamp and the signature for the stored procs in the 2 DB hardly happen to be the same and FORMS and REPORTS check for that.
Only not using stored procs you may be certain your .fmx will run on any DB that has the referred tables with the apropriate structure.
I don't really like it, but that's it!

    Can anybody help me in determining the problem ? Is there a systemtic incompatibility in connecting a 7.1.3 client to a 9.2 (or even higher) database ?

    Thanks for your reply.
    But the funny thing on this compatibility issues is, that this configuration worked before. The only thing we did, was to setup the client-PC on a new hardware with also a new operating system (upgrading from Solaris 5.8 to 5.10). And from that time we encountered this problem.
    Are there any OS-related problems known or better to say: is (was) ORACLE 7.1.3 supported on Solaris 5.10 ? Should we look for any patches which might help us ?

  • ORA -04062 when running forms aginst a different schema

    Hello,
    I am getting this error (ORA -04062 signature of 'procedure' has been changed)when I try to run my form aginst my test- schema (different from my development schema). I get rid of the error if I compile the form against the test schema. In the production environment I have to run this form against multiple schemas, so recompilation is not a possible solution.
    Has anybody else come across this problem.

    Thanks John for your reply !
    I think my problem is close to the second thing you mention as a possible cause. I found out that I had used a parameter of type table%ROWTYPE in call to a pacakged procedure. When I defined a "TYPE MyRec IS RECORD" record type in my pacakge specification and used that as the type for the parameter my form seems to work against my test schema without recompilation. Unfortunately the table is pretty large so my package specification does not look so neat anymore. And I lost the dynamics associated with the %ROWTYPE attribute.

    A couple of things to look for:
    1) REMOTE_DEPENDENCIES_MODE is SIGNATURE instead of TIMESTAMP in init.ora.
    2) Forms that call stored procedures with a large parameter list (about 55 or more) can get a run-time error ORA-4062 if running on a different schema than where it was compiled.
    3) You can also hit a snag if you are calling a dbms_XX package within the form. Instead, call it within a db procedure, which you can call from the form.

    Your new database connection must be pointing to an older database which doesn't support the returning clause. I believe this was added in the 8.x series.

    Hi Nitin
    Thanks for the helpful! With your point I'm now Pro! Great thanks.
    By the way have your seen that?
    Files such as LISTENER.ORA, TNSNAMES.ORA, SQLNET.ORA, if configured manually, or copied and edited from earlier releases of Oracle Database may have record attributes that are incompatible with Oracle Database 10g release 2. The software cannot read such files. The required record format is stream_lf and the record attributes are carriage_control and carriage_return.
    This may result in:
    Inability to start the listener
    Services not registered with the listener
    Inability to connect to other databases
    ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve service name
    Run the following command on each file affected:
    $ DIR/FULL filename
    An output similar to the following may be displayed:
    Record format: Variable length, maximum 255 bytes
    Record attributes: Carriage return carriage control
    If the output includes the preceding entries, then run the following command:
    $ CONVERT/FDL=SYS$INPUT filename filename
    RECORD
    CARRIAGE_CONTROL CARRIAGE_RETURN
    FORMAT STREAM_LF

  • Oracle error ORA-604 when opening a connection

    I am facing an issue with my WCF service which is using ODP.NET version 4.112.2.0(x64) and Oracle 11g.
    The service runs without any problems on the test servers but on production server (Windows 2008 R2) when an attempt is made to call any service method it fails with the following Oracle error code Ora-604. the message is
    ORA-604: error occurred at recursive SQL level %s
    The exception is thrown when a call to meethod Open is made to open a connection.
    There is no inner exception. So far I have tried checking the connection string, the user permissions and setting the TNS_ADMIN environment variable but nothing has worked.
    Another thing to mention is that another WCF service which uses some of the same stored procedure I am using is working fine on the same server.
    Has anyone seen this before?
    Thanks,

    Do you have a login trigger?

    If so, try disabling it.
    Does the working service use the same credentials as this problem service?
    Are you able to connect using sqlplus, with the same credentials from the same client to the same database? If it's not an ODP.NET specific problem, the dba guys might be able to help better: General Database Discussions

    Seems like it may be a problem with Oracle on Windows and Firewalls. Check that your firewall software/hardware is able to proccess SQL*NET requests.
    Try to open all the ports based on IP address and see if that works.

  • ORA-30931 when changing WebDAV port

    Hi,
    I've created the XDB_UTILITY package like described in note 209564.1 on the metalink site. This package is an interface to the dbms_xdb package and can be used to change the FTP and HTTP ports of the XML DB.
    Changing the FTP port is no problem but Oracle does not change the HTTP port. The error I get is 'ora-30931: Element 'httpconfig' cannot contain mixed text'. I've tried several portnumbers, the only moment I don't get the error is when I leave the parameter portnumer blank.
    I've googled for this error without success, hopefully somebody on this forum has got this error before.

    In 10.2.0.1.0 and later the xdb_utility package should not be used to change port numbers. This functionality was added directly to the dbms_xdb package via the getHttpPort, getFtpPort, setHttpPort and setFtpPort methods. If you get the problem you are reporting when you call those methods directly please open a tar with Oracle Support as this will need to be bugged.
    I'll ask someone to update the note you reference with this info.
