Ora 10g control file space usage
Hey;
Is there a way to find out how much space is actually used in an oracle 10g control file?
We just discovered that two raw volumes holding control files are 96 megs and the third is 48 megs. There's some history on how that happened which, quite honestly, is irrelevant. It obviously needs to be fixed; however, I'm curious to find out how much space is actually being used. It's obvious that it's less than 48 megs or the database would have crashed. If it's 47.9999 megs, this is a "let's do it now" thing - if it's less than that, we have some breathing room - like to this saturday when the maintenance window is.
Thanks for any hints/tips/suggestions.

Dear dkoleary!
Please have a look at this:
>
You can calculate the size of the controlfile from V$CONTROLFILE_RECORD_SECTION. The size of each section is RECORD_SIZE * RECORDS_TOTAL rounded up to a whole number of blocks. The controlfile block size is the same as the database block size. You then need to double that size, because all data in the controlfile is stored in duplicate. This is needed to recover in case the instance or system crashes in the middle of a controlfile transaction. Finally, you also need to allow 1 block for the file header. There is a script called controlfile_size.sql on the Ixora web site that will do this all for you.

Hi,
I have upgraded the database from 9.2.0.4 to 10.2.0.4 and for some time compatible parameter remained 9.2.0.0.
Recently i have changed compatible parameter to 10.2.0.4.Now I could open the database with pfile but when I am trying to open database with spfile then I am getting following error:--

ORA-01665 : control file is not a standby control file
I've already tested Dataguard configuration on Oracle 10g Enterprise edition for Windows.
While configuring the same in Sun Solaris, I'm receiving this error:
ORA-01665: control file is not a standby control file
Steps I follow are as below:
1) Creating a password file on both databases (primary and standby)
2) Force logging primary db and shut it down. Take a cold backup of redo log files and datafiles.
3) Transferring them to Standby db.
4) Starting primary db in mount mode and creating a standby controlfile. Transferring standby controlfile to proper location defined in standby init file.
5) Start primary db in read-write mode and secondary db in mount mode using:
alter database mount standby database;
I receive this error while firing this SQL.
Can anyone please help me out solving the same.I'm already done with the same. Find log below:

ORA-00245: control file backup failed; target is likely on a local file sys
Hello,
our RAC (Linux, 11.2.0.3.0) is rather new and we are still on gaining experiences with that system...
When starting the backup with RMAN we are getting the following error:
Starting Control File and SPFILE Autobackup at 04-JUL-12
RMAN-00571: ===========================================================
RMAN-00569: =============== ERROR MESSAGE STACK FOLLOWS ===============

ORA-00245: control file backup failed; target is likely on a local file system
The reason for the error is clear ORA-00245 - in a RAC environment the location of the Snapshot Controlfile must be on a shared location.
When executing the RMAN command "show all" on each node, we are getting
CONFIGURE SNAPSHOT CONTROLFILE NAME TO '/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0.3/db/dbs/snapcf_PROD021.f'; # default
for node #1
and
CONFIGURE SNAPSHOT CONTROLFILE NAME TO '/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0.3/db/dbs/snapcf_PROD022.f'; # default
for node #2
When using a shared location for the Snapshot Controlfile do we still need to setup 2 different names for that file?
CONFIGURE SNAPSHOT CONTROLFILE NAME TO '/<shared location>/snapcf_PROD021.f'; # default
for node #1 and
CONFIGURE SNAPSHOT CONTROLFILE NAME TO '/<shared location>/snapcf_PROD022.f'; # default
for node #2
Or should we configure just one Snapshot Controlfile?
The RMAN setup for "CONFIGURE SNAPSHOT CONTROLFILE NAME TO..." must be changed on both nodes - correct?
Hopefully my question is clear enough - any help will be appreciated.
Rgds
JH
Edited by: VivaLaVida on 05.07.2012 11:41No, it must be configured on a shared storage:Not really required, i've RAC setup and snapshot is configured on local storage.
Configuring the RMAN Snapshot Control File Location
The snapshot control file is a copy of a database control file created in an operating system-specific location by Recovery Manager. RMAN creates the snapshot control file so that it has a consistent version of a control file to use when either resynchronizing the recovery catalog or backing up the control file. In Oracle RAC, the snapshot control file is only needed on the nodes on which RMAN performs backups; the snapshot control file does not need to be globally available to all instances in an Oracle RAC environment.
See below from doc.

ORA-00214 control file version 33705 inconsistent with file version 33703
Hi,
I have successfully installed OracleEBS 12.2.0. I have started listener. Then while starting DB i got the following error.
ORA-00214 control file '/home/oracle/data/controlfile_VIS1.ctl' version 33705 inconsistent with file '/home/oracle/data/controlfile_VIS2.ctl version 33703
I am not having backup for DB and it's files.
Please any one help me to recover this problem and to start DB
Thanks,
SelviHi Selvi,
It would be better to ask this question in the RDBMS forum -

This forum is for questions about connecting to non-Oracle databases from Oracle.

ORA-39095: Dump file space has been exhausted
Hello Friends,
DB Version : 10.2.0.4
OS : SUN Solaris 10
We have a server with 10 RAC databases running on it. From 1st node we have a scheduled export job for all the databases. All the databases are using a common script and we are passing parameters (example as below)
/opt/oracle/admin/DBA/dbatools/expdpdb.sh -d w111pr1 (here w111pr1 is the SID)
Out of 10 databases, full export job is working fine for 9 databases. only for 1 database (which i mentioned above), export is failing with below error
ORA-39095: Dump file space has been exhausted: Unable to allocate 16384 bytes
Job "OPS$ORACLE"."SYS_EXPORT_FULL_39" stopped due to fatal error at 00:06:13
After analyzing I found that in the script we are not using '%U' option for dump file which might cause the problem. But if this is the real issue, it should fail for other 9 databases also. But even without '%U' option, it is working for other databases.
One more thing.... all the export backups will run in a difference of 1/2 hour. Do we need anything with OS processes?
Anyone faced this kind of issue earlier? If so please let me know what can be a better way to handle it.
Thanks in advance...
P.S: export is executing fine when issued manually.what are your dumpfile, parallel and filesize parameter values in the shell script? does the shell script has one size fits all parameter settings? Also are there any other errors? Can you share the expdp command ?

I have just shut down and restarted a production database. It will not open.. It wasn't recovered, upgraded or anything, it was shutdown and an attempt was made to restart it.
ORA-00201: control file version 10.2.0.1.0 incompatible with ORACLE version
10.2.0.0.0
There does not seem to be an spfile.
what could be going wrong here?It sounds like someone made a change to the COMPATIBLE parameter and saved it to SPFILE (or even updated the init.ora file) only to cause a problem on restart but you say there was no SPFILE. Have you tried changing the COMPATIBLE parameter back to what it was on the previous start? Check the alert log for the history of changes and previous values.

Audio Files space usage: noise versus silence
Continuing on from my recent Disk Usage thoughts:
I've noticed that we arm a Logic track connected to a microphone, and begin recording the microphone from the very start of the song, even if the singer doesn't actually start singing until, say, bar 8.
So in the Audio Region, we see a flatline waveform for the first 8 bars before they start singing.
Turning my thoughts to disk space usage:
I've just read the section in the manual that says 1 minute of monophonic audio recorded at 16-bit dynamic resolution and 44.1 kHz frequency consumes 5 Mb of hard disk space.
Does 8 bars of silence use the same amount of disk space as 8 bars of singing? (I assume so - silence would be represented by, at 16-bit dynamic resolution, 16 digital zeros, whereas a sample of noise would 16 ones and zeros)
Moving on - let's assume that a singer has just sang on a track and I have an Audio Region that shows the first 16 bars as being silent. If I'm correct, using the scissors tool and removing the first 16 bars of the Audio Region does not affect the underlying audio file (my understanding: Audio Regions are simply pointers to an underlying file).
So how would I remove silence from the start of an underlying audio file? Do something in the Sampler (double clicking the Audio Region brings up something I think is called the Sampler)?Does 8 bars of silence use the same amount of disk space as 8 bars of singing?
Yes, in this case.
Audio Regions are simply pointers to an underlying file).
Yes.
So how would I remove silence from the start of an underlying audio file?
Adjust the region to your liking, go to audio window, select unused, delete (just removes files or regions from session)
Then select the file and hit optimize or select the file's used regions and create new, then delete old later.
This is safer than optimizing the file, but ore steps.

Output

Tried in TOAD, now will implement in code.

Output

Or implement in the code extraction logic.. i.e while sending e-mails and validation inside code? :( -
