Ora-12203 only in reports

Hi All,
I upgraded to oracle 10g running on server 2003 and trying to connect from a client running on NT 4.0, I am able to connect to database through forms 6.0 and sql but not throught report 6.0.
I even copied the tnsname.ora from server to client but it still the same...even tried to configure the network through network manager of 10g version but that even didn't solve the problem.
Is there any clue guys....any help will be highly appriciated.
Best Regards

Are you sure you changed the tnsnames in all of your oracle homes
on your NT box? Do a file search for tnsnames.ora , see if you missed any.
This may not be your issue depending on how the machine is configured but worth looking at.
Bob.

    Hi!
Does this happen when you are on another machine? Maybe there is a firewall present?
When you are on the machine itself, can you connect?

  • Re: BUG? APEX 4.0: ORA-20503 error editing report with 400+ columns

    Hello Everyone.
I've run into something quite strange and am hoping you can help me.
I am using Apex 4.0.1 and Oracle version 10.2.0.5. I've created a "classical" report in which the underlying SQL is a very simple:
select * from pvtabThe Oracle table pvtab consists of 419 columns, all of which are varchar2(88) and number type. That's it.
When I run the report, al of the columns show up as expected.
However, when I go into the "Report Attributes" tab and click on one of the fields (any of them, it doesn't matter which one), I immediately get the following error:
ORA-20503: Current version of data in database has changed since user initiated update process. current checksum = "598CAA7B68746A66F4B99E1512C36DED" application checksum = "0"If if replace the "*" with a few actual column names, then I am able to access any of these columns without problem.
If I put back the "*", I then encounter this error again.
I have never seen this error with other SQL SELECT statements in which I use the "*" qualifier to retrieve all columns from the table.
And so, I am wondering if the error is caused because of the large number of columns (419) in my table.
I've seen this same error mentioned in connection with forms but never with a report.
So, is there some limit to the number of columns one can have in a "classic" or interactive report?
Any idea why I would be getting this error?
Here is the DDL for my table pvtab:

So, is there some limit to the number of columns one can have in a "classic" or interactive report?Yes. See Oracle® Application Express Application Builder User's Guide Release 4.0, Appendix B: Oracle Application Express Limits.
Any idea why I would be getting this error? No, but I've replicated it in APEX 4.0.2.00.07 on 11.2.0.1.0 EE using a table of 420 <tt>varchar2(88)</tt> columns:
    >
ORA-20503: Current version of data in database has changed since user initiated update process. current checksum = "50C9BDC0AA1AEF0EB272E9158B2117B4" application checksum = "0"
    >
Happens whether using <tt>select *</tt> or including all column names in the query. (I know you don't want to type all the column names, but I'd never use <tt>select *</tt> in a production application: always use a proper column list. You can get one without typing by drag-and-drop of a table in most IDEs, or a query from <tt>user_tab_columns</tt>.)
I hit the problem at 274 columns. Such an arbitrary number leads me to think that the problem is not one of the number of columns per se, but is due to some other limit (possibly a 32K VARCHAR2/RAW buffer somewhere).
    Workaround:
Updates to the report column attributes are actually being saved, and you can navigate them using the Page Definition tree view as described in Appendix B.
    Getting More Help:
This is probably a bug. If you have a support agreement with Oracle raise an SR with Oracle Support.
    Also:
<li>Search the forum using the "ORA-20503" code and other possible terms to see if there's anything relevant. I had a quick look but the only thread in this context recommended an upgrade on an Oracle 9 DB version that's not compatible with APEX 4.0.
<li>To get the attention of the Oracle APEX team or anyone else who may know more about this problem than we do, edit your original post and change the Subject to be more specific about the actual nature of the problem: <em>BUG? APEX 4.0: ORA-20503 error editing report with 400+ columns</em>, and include your database version/edition and the definition of the <tt>PVTAB</tt> table.
    Finally:
Somebody's bound to ask, so we might as well get started:
    <li>Why so many columns?
<li>What requirement is this trying to fulfil?

  • ORA-12203 error in Forms6i, after installing 10g local DB

    Hello,
I have a configuration with multiples Oracle_Homes as I use Disco R4, Forms6i, Forms 10g, and sqlplus. I had no problem when I used a local 9i DB. All worked fine.
When I had the 9i DB, I decided to set a TNS_ADMIN variable and only use one version of SQLNET.ORA and TNSNAMES.ORA. All was fine !
Recently, I have decided to install a brand new 10gR2 DB, and get rid off my 9i DB.
Since then, only the 10g tools work fine... and I cannot connect anymore to any of my Forms6i or Disco. BIG Problem !!!
The error is always the same : ORA-12203: TNS:unable to connect to destinationI have made many different tries for fixing this issue...but I have no clue, and I would like some advices from you.
Here are the details of the variables and files (after all my modifications):
    - My 10DB is located under OracleHome DB10g_OH (c:\10g\DB)
    - My Forms6i is located under OracleHome DEFAULT_HOME (c:\oraNT)
    - I created environment variables
    ORACLE_SID=SCFOXD
    TWO_TASK=SCFOXD
    and
    PATH= C:\10g\DB\bin;C:\orant\bin; ....
I currently put the same version of listener.ora, sqlnet.ora and tnsnames.ora in both directories (C:\orant\NET80\ADMIN and C:\10g\DB\NETWORK\ADMIN):
    - sqlnet.ora:
    SQLNET.ALLOWED_LOGON_VERSION = 9
    SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NTS)
    TRACE_LEVEL_CLIENT = ADMIN
    TRACE_UNIQUE_CLIENT = on

    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = localhost)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SID = SCFOXD)
    (SERVER = DEDICATED)
    (GLOBAL_NAME = SCFOXD)
    (HS = OK)
    - listener.ora (defined with the 10g Net Manager)

Using the Dos command window, I stopped and started the listener (lsnrctl stop/start and its current status is (in french!!):

Looking at the listerner status, all seems fine, except the status UNKNOWN of the DB... I have no idea why it is that, as I can successfully connect it using the 10g tools (sqlplus/forms10g)
To go further, I can reproduce the same error (like with Forms6i) when I use the DOS command window, when I run plus80.
Anyway, I am sure there is something I missed to do... but, I am really stuck, and I would like to get some advices in order to solve my issue.
    Thanks,
    Olivier

    Thanks for your quick reply.
    1) forms 6i version is = 6.0.8.23.2
    2) in the DOS box, here is what I get :

I really feel bad about my current configuration. I don't understand at all...
    Any other suggestion?

  • SQL not connecting to Personal database - ORA-12203

I have just installed Oracle 8.1.7 Personal Edition which is required for my Graduate Database Mgmt course.
I am getting an ORA-12203 error when loging onto SQL Plus (part of the install instructions) Instructions say to leave the Host String blank. Only gives instructions for errors 27101 or 01034 and cannot seem to find a help or error index anywhere.
Please help so that I can continue or else drop the class in time to get my money back!!!!

    Jana,
Your TNSNAMES.ORA file will be found in a path similar to this one:
    C:\Oracle\Ora81\NETWORK\ADMIN
The file may looks similar to this:
    ORA1 =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = xxx.xxx.xx.xxx)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVICE_NAME = ora1)
When you log on to SQL*PLUS try:
    USERNAME: system
    PASSWORD: manager
    HOSTNAME: (leave blank)
If you still get an error, refer to your TNSNAMES.ORA file to see what your host name should be (in my example, it is ORA1).
If you still get an error after filling in the hostname, launch server manager (C:\Oracle\Ora81\BIN\SVRMGRL.EXE), then try to start the database:
    SVRMGR> CONNECT INTERNAL
    SVRMGR> STARTUP
    Good luck,
    Emily

  • ERROR ORA-12203: TNS: unable to connect to destination

    Hello All,
I have installed Oracle 8i and forms 6i on my computer running on Windows NT 4.0 with service pack 4.0. The order of my installation was Oracle 8i and then Forms 6i. I have also used Net8 Easy Config to configure the tnsnames.ora file. I tested the connection on the Net8 Easy Config wizzard and I got the connection successful message. However I still get the ERROR ORA-12203: TNS: unable to connect to destination message when I tried to connect from forms 6i.
I have below my tnsnames.ora file:
    # C:\FORMS6I\NET80\ADMIN\TNSNAMES.ORA Configuration File:C:\forms6i\net80\admin\tnsnames.ora
    # Generated by Oracle Net8 Assistant
    LISTENER1 =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = austin)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA = (SID = SUN))
    Rep60_AUSTIN-Forms6i,Rep60_AUSTIN-Forms6i.world=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=AUSTIN)(PORT=1949))
I have created database objects, but forms will not connect. What else should do?
    Thanks for your anticipated response.

    Hi
Your oracle database and forms are installed on different oracle home so when you configurate your sql net that time you are configurating only your oracle database. So for form you must be having different oracle home. you cand change thid from start/oracle inatallation products/home selecter. so change our home and run the form. and if still having problem than check for tnsnames.ora file you must be having two files and both must be having right configuration.
    thanks

ORA-12203 TNS:unable to connect to destination.
ORA-03106: fatal two-task communication protocol error.
    Hi,
I got this error when i tried to connect to oracle10g Express
from windows 2000/XP station using oracle8 (NET80) client in the station
because my application was developed in FORMS6i/REPORTS
I would like to know if exist some incompatibility between Oracle10g Express and NET80 protocol ? (exp80, imp80, sqlplu80)
PS: When i use Sqlplus from Oracle9i/10 client the connection works fine
    Thanks

I think that it is quite reasonable. Forms6i seems to work fine against newer Oracle databases like 10gR2 Enterprise Editon, Standard Edition and even Express Edition (using non-Unicode character sets).
The point is that Forms6i never worked against Unicode databases. The product is no longer under development (for some time by now) and this new functionality has been added to the newer releases like 9i and 10g.

  • Error Message :- ORA-12203 TNS : Unable to connect to destination

As there are several fixes to this issue, one unique place to look for is the iptables/firewall in Redhat server. Even though EBS applications worked fine until the reboot, we looked at the iptables that was disabled using ‘service iptables stop’ but was never turned off in rc. Nonetheless, this forced the iptables to be enabled during startup and blocked the tns port.
running ‘service iptables off’ helped to fix the issue.
Also, you can confirm if this is the case by simply running telnet dbserver port number . If it doesn’t connect, above fix is valid.

    Hi,
If you are using Sqlplus on the same machine in which you have the DB, you can run it in two ways :
    - Specifying only username and password : in this case you have to set ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_SID environment variables. ORACLE_HOME should be already defined in the registry, so you should have to set only ORACLE_SID = <your SID>
    - Specifying username, password and connection string : here you have to configure an alias in the TNSNAMES.ora file to point to your DB : you can do this using NET MANAGER or NET EASY CONFIGURATION (I don't use often Windows systems, so I don't remember exactly....)
If you are using a Client, the second way is needed.
Then you have to check that the listener is running on the Server. Check the listener service, it has to be active. If so, from a DOS Window try :
    LSNRCTL stop
    LSNRCTL start
This stop and restart the listene

In Oracle 6i, you can open only 1 report at a time. As far as i know, there is no option to show more than 1 report.

  • ORA-12203 while calling a form from external procedure

    Hi
I am using oracle 10g 10.2.0.3.0 database with forms 6i. We have created a database procedure , which makes a call to external procedure(C program). Now this external procedure creates a process and process is creating a call to form.
We have checked through the process explorer in the server, process is getting created successfully, but doesn't executed. We tried to start the process manually, it is throwing ora-12203: TNS unable to connect to destination.
We are able to connect the database from form's runtime. but if this runtime is executed from a process which is created by external procedure, it is throwing ora-12203.
    Any idea?

check tnsnames and listener files.verify the host and the port
