ORA-12537: TNS Connectio Closed

Hi,
I have Production Database Servers. The name of Production Databse Server is CB02DB1 on which we are running Oracle 9i Release 2 (64 Bit) version. This database contain our ERP database and we want to restrict some users to access databse. For this Purpose I set the Parameters
TCP.VALIDNODE_CHECKING=YES
TCP.INVITED_NODES=(DBPROD)
in my sqlnet.ora file.
Now the Problem is that we have another server whose name is DBPROD. Which contain Oracle Financial Application with 8.1.7.0.0 version database. Oracle Financial is Intigrated with our ERP. when I given the name of DBPROD in
TCP.INVITED_NODES on CB0DB1 sqlnet.ora file and restart the listener.
Now when we connect to 9i databse from DBPROD machine it gives the error
ORA-12537: TNS Connectio Closed.
Any body Help me. It is Urgent.
Regards,

Let me clarify your question, it is not totally clear to me:
You have a database on node A.
You want to allow connections only from node B.
You try to achieve this with TCP.INVITED_NODES.
It does not work, B cannot connect to the database on A.
Did I understand your problem?
Try the following:
Write B's FULL name into TCP.INVITED_NODES - does it work then?
From A, try to ping B using the full name. Does it work?
Examine listener.log on node A. Can you find an explanation?
If you are still at loss, turn on tracing for the listener, try to connect and look at listener.log again.
Yours,
Laurenz Albe

    hai folks,
when i am connecting to database from toad software it throwhn error like this.
in which files i will update regarding tnsnames.ora file.
    Regards

You need to register the hosts which you want to give SQL*Plus/TOAD access as nodes.
From OAM, navigate to Site Map > Administration > System Configuration > Hosts > Register.
You may also comment "tcp.validnode_checking = yes" but this will allow any client to be able to connect to the Database.

  • ORA-12537:TNS:TNS connection closed

i am getting this error while connecting to sqlplus. please suggest.

    This error means:
    ORA-12537: TNS:connection closed
Cause: "End of file" condition has been reached; partner has disconnected.
Action: None needed; this is an information message.
Which simply means your connection has ended. It is just an informative message, actually this doesn't mean an error arised.
Please provide further details on the environment where this error was produced as well as the Oracle and OS versions.

    Hi,
    In your tnsnames.ora description ORCL.
    ORCL =

I think , if you want you must create database on localhost with IP 127.0.0.1
else if you want connect exists database with service name ORCL then you must change IP address
for ORCL description in tnsname.ora (for expale HOST= ORCLHOST or IP )

I've started getting these errors on my database. However, nothing was being reported in my alert log. I did the research and found a bug that could cause this, with a patch. Also found that the same patch was in the 10.2.0.3 patch set.

How else can I investigate this ORA-12537 error? This is my production db, and it's down.
I checked the memory that one article indicated could be of issue...memory is fine.
It also mentioned versions of listener, I'm looking into that right now on how to see what version and how to update it. I'm also going to open a SR with Oracle.
    Thanks.

Ok...tried to log back in (no other actions taken) and it was a normal log in...that's really weird.
The db was never down...it's functional. Just some folks can't get to it. (not the same people all the time..)

  • TNS: connection closed error with SQL*net

    Hi all,
I've got a new installation of Oracle 11.1.0.6.0 enterprise (Linux). It works fine with direct sqlplus connections but I'm having problems with SQL*net and JDBC thin client connections.
The database is built correctly and works fine:

but if I try to connect using SQL*net I get errors. I have my TNS listener configured and it starts without errors, reporting the database as a service, and tnsping is fine:

This is a new instance of Oracle so there is no problem with listener.log being too large (as I've seen elsewhere). I've also tried increasing PROCESSES and SESSIONS in the initSID.ora file without any impact. The listener ports are open through the firewall (and disabling it temporarily makes no difference).
    Any suggestions?!
    Thanks, Matt

  • ORA-12537

    Hi friends,
I have a 3rd party application that is running on Oracle 10g DB (Aix 5L). It has been running smoothly for 1 month now.
But suddenly today it hit this ORA-12537?
Which of the following is near to this scenario? or do you have other ideas?
What to do with ORA-12537: TNS: connection closed error
The ORA-12537 is an information message and means that the connection has been closed. This can be caused by a number of reasons:
    1. Database is shut down (maybe for nightly backup), but connection to database was kept by client.
    2. A time-out occurred on the client-connection.
    3. When firewall closes idle connections.
    3. A configuration problem in sqlnet.ora or listener.ora.
    4. You have a path name that is too long for the Oracle TNS client on windows. (MetaLink Note:263489.1 )
This issue is due to the connection string being large enough that the connection packet is being split into two packets and then sent to the listener. There are several workarounds for the issue.
    a. Install the exe in a shorter named directory.
    b. Modify the TNS Names entry so that it is shorter.
    c. Replace domain names with IP Addresses if that shortens and vice versa.
    d. Remove any parameters from the entry that are not needed.
    e. Patch the Database Listener to the most recent version.
    5. Oracle security is enables (for example in Oracle Apps). Solution either:
    a) Edit sqlnet.ora file and add your client-ip to tcp.invited_nodes.
    b) Remove secutity by editing sqlnet.ora and comment out parameter tcp.validnode_checking = yes by adding # at the beginning of the line.***Courtesy of Oradev.Com
What do you mean by #1 "kept silent"?
All of the above will fail at first day of implem, but its been running for 1 month now :(
    Thanks a lot
    Ms K

Thanks everyone, God Bless :)Just a piece of advice on the side ...
First, I'll be the first to admit that your English is far better than my <whatever your native language is>. But as you strive to improve your English, you might want to be aware of bit of implicit meaning that probably won't be found in your dictionary.
To native English speakers, the term "dear" when addressing someone is usually reserved for someone with which you have some romantic relationship. It's a term I would use to address my wife, not a friend. Not even a very close friend. Certainly not a bunch of strangers. It's a term of endearment, not friendship or collegiality.
Actually, this is one of those tricky things about usage in English. In traditional formal writing, opening a letter with the term "Dear Fred" (using the persons name) is standard practice but seems to be falling out of usage except in business letters. But to address someone as "Dear" without their name gets into the perception of "endearment" vs. "collegiality".
Please take this comment in the spirit of trying to help improve communications, not criticism. No offense was take by your repeated use of "dear", and no apology is needed.

    Hi,
Thanks, I commented it and it worked :)
But EBS R11 put it by default I wonder if It has some
effect from Oracle Applications. Anyways I have to
return it back if it affects the applications. It is enabled for security reasons in Oracle Apps 11.5.10. It will not disrupt the running of the application, but security is reduced because you are now allowing all cliens to connect. To maintain the security, you need to add client to the list instead of comment it out.
Do you know what FND_SQLNET_ACCESS is set to?

Now, I cannot connect. Nothing has changed otherwise. Does anyone have any idea what may be causing this? I am using the sql plus command prompt, on a Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1. Oracle 10.2.0.4 Production, 64-bit.
    Thank you,

  • ORA-12537 error in Oracle 8.1.7

We have an Oracle Application Server and an Oracle DB Cluster communicating over a Firewall between two VLANS.
Sometimes we get the error ORA-12537 "TNS: connection closed". The oracle documentation says this is just an
information message and no action is required but we have to restart all oracle processes on the application server.
Can anyone tell me what's the cause of our problem and how can I avoid restarting the oracle processes
on the application server when the error occurs?

Make sure you set the NLS_LANG environment variable properly on the WebLogic
server environment. Search this newsgroup for NLS_LANG.

    Hi,
We are using jDrivers of Weblogic to connect to oracle , when we did
testing on Oracle 8.1.7 with UTF8 for the Update Statements we got the error
message ORA-01461 can bind a LONG value only for insert into a LONG column.
All the columns in the table are varchar2. Any Solution to this problem?
    Thanks

  • Error ORA-12537 when trying to connect

I'm getting an 'ORA-12537 TNS:connection closed' error when connecting to the database (8.1.7 on Win2k). The problem persists even after restarting both, listener and database-service. I cannot even connect as SYSDBA. How can i solve this problem?

Seems like it may be a problem with Oracle on Windows and Firewalls. Check that your firewall software/hardware is able to proccess SQL*NET requests.
Try to open all the ports based on IP address and see if that works.
