ORA-12537 error in Oracle 8.1.7
We have an Oracle Application Server and an Oracle DB Cluster communicating over a Firewall between two VLANS.
Sometimes we get the error ORA-12537 "TNS: connection closed". The oracle documentation says this is just an
information message and no action is required but we have to restart all oracle processes on the application server.
Can anyone tell me what's the cause of our problem and how can I avoid restarting the oracle processes
on the application server when the error occurs?
Make sure you set the NLS_LANG environment variable properly on the WebLogic
server environment. Search this newsgroup for NLS_LANG.

Hi,
We are using jDrivers of Weblogic to connect to oracle , when we did
testing on Oracle 8.1.7 with UTF8 for the Update Statements we got the error
message ORA-01461 can bind a LONG value only for insert into a LONG column.
All the columns in the table are varchar2. Any Solution to this problem?

ORACLE SERVER
SCOPE
======================================================================
Explanation
ORA-29701과 ORA-29702는 OGMS(Oracle Group Membership Services)에 문제가
1. OGMS란?
OPS 운영 환경에서 노드 간의 통신을 위해 IDLM(Integrated Distributed Lock Manager)과
2. Error 분석
1) ORA-29701

ORA-00600 error in Oracle 10.1.0.5 database
Hi All,
Please help me to get rid of the below mentioned issue.
I am supporting a Oracle 10.1.0.5 prod database. we are getting a below ora-600 error message
ORA-00600: internal error code, arguments: [qerpxSlaveFetch1], [0], [], [], [], [], [], []
I have searched in metalink and there it is stated as bug with the product.
They adviced us to apply the Patch 3897688 or disable parallelism or Upgrade to the fixed release, 10gR2.
The patch 3897688 is not for window platform. Upgrade to 10gR2 is not possible in near future.
So please help me how to disable parallelism in 10g database.ok fine satish will ask our development team to try your suggestion.
Can you please tell me whether the following init parameters we can use to disable parallelism?
PARALLEL_AUTOMATIC_TUNING = FALSE
PARALLEL_SERVER=FALSE (this alone will disable Parallel Execution)
PARALLEL_MIN_SERVERS=0 (this is additional restriction)
PARALLEL_MAX_SERVERS=0 (this is additional restriction)

As this is your PRODUCTION system THEN_ The best help to offer in case of ORA-600, and ORA-7445 is to open SR with metalink. Submit with the SR the following
1- Alert log
2- Trace files (in ur case e:\oracle\product\10.2.0\admin\orcl\udump\orcl_ora_6012.trc: and e:\oracle\product\10.2.0\em_2\rdbms\trace\orcl_ora_4756.trc:)
3- Describe what was happening when you had these errors.
Try to avoid free help when you have ORA-600 and ORA-07445. This errors could be becuase of BUGS. Oracle Support will know this from the call stack in the trace file.
Then Do your best to patch 10.2.0.4 and the latest CPU patch.

ORA-24816 error with oracle 10 driver
Friends,
I am getting the following error with Oracle 10 driver while trying to insert data > 4k into a LONG column. The table also contains another column of type varchar2(4000). The code works perfectly fine with Oracle 9i driver.
ORA-24816: Expanded non LONG bind data supplied after actual LONG or LOB column
Kindly let me know if this is a programming error or a driver problem.
Thanks,
Vinaythis driver you mentioned, is it the jdbc driver?

ORA-06550: Error in Oracle InterConnect DB Adapter
Hi,
We are facing a problem while inserting a row into
Oracle database using Oracle InterConnect DB Adapter.
All the required configuration information like AppViews,CommonViews,Events,Application etc have been
created and configured in iStudio.
At runtime, OracleDB Adapter bridge (subscription) gets
the message from the interconnect hub and throws the
following error, while trying to insert the details into
table.
Error: db_bridge_writer_1 could not write the message to
the database because of an application error (java.sql.SQLException: ORA-06550: line 1, column 7:

'insert into employee values(EMPNO, FULLNAME,MANAGERNAME, DIVISIONNO)';
END sub_NewEmployee_OAI_V1;
What could be the reason for this error? Are we missing
something in the configuration?
Appreciate any pointers in solving this issue.
Thanks in advance,
Regards,
Murali.Murali,
Where have you installed the Package EMPLOYEE_OBJ in your database?
It sounds like you've missed this vital step.
In iStudio...File > Export PL/SQL. Expand your subscribing Application (e.g. APPS) ... APPS > Subscribed Events, and highlight "Subscribe(EMPLOYEE_OBJ.NEWEMPLOYEE)". Press the "Browse" button, and select where you want to save the file. (e.g. d:\iStudio_Packages\XXOAI). The "XXOAI" prefix is added to the start of the created file.
A *.sql file will be created in the directory you specified (e.g. d:\iStudio_Packages\XXOAI_APPS_EMPLOYEE_OBJ.sql).
(Note: Ignore the empty "XXOAI_APPS_EMPLOYEE_OBJTypes.sql" file as you haven't created any new ones (i.e. NUMBER and LONG are standard))
Login to SQL*Plus now, as the same user specified in your DB Adapter.ini file (Hint: In adapter.ini, look for the entry "db_bridge_schema1_writer_username=[Your DB User]", e.g."db_bridge_schema1_writer_username=APPS.)
Execute the iStudio generated XXOAI_APPS_EMPLOYEE_OBJ.sql file.
You will now have the Package EMPLOYEE_OBJ created, together with a procedure SUB_NEWEMPLOYEE_OAI_V1.
You will notice that the DB Adapter (unless you've stopped it and cleared down any persistence files), will automatically find this new Package and Procedure, and will have updated your 'Employee' table. :-)
Hope this helps

ORA-12505 error with oracle 11.2.0.2 RAC Grid
Hi,
We have just installed Oracle 11.2.0.2 with oracle clusterware. Every thing went well during the installation, How ever after install we can not connect to the RAC instance from clients, through jdbc OR oracle sql developer.
We get following error:
ORA-12505, TNS:listener does not currently know of SID given in connect descriptor.
After the installation we created service (myrac) through OEM Cluster Managed Database Services tab. and We are using service name as following:
jdbc:oracle:thin:@orap-cluster.mydomain.com:1521:myrac
Here below is Service TNS string:
myrac = (DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = orap-cluster.mydomain.com)(PORT = 1521))(LOAD_BALANCE = YES)(CONNECT_DATA = (SERVER = DEDICATED)(SERVICE_NAME = myrac)))
Any help..??
CheersHI,
to clarify:
if you try with
<SERVER>:<PORT>:<SID> you are accessing the server with a database SID, whereas
<SERVER>:<PORT>/<SERVICE> will access a service.
The SCAN Listener only know of services, and not of database SIDs.
This is the reason you should always create separate services for your RAC databases, since only they are registered. If you connect via. a service the listener will forward you to (one of) the corresponding instances servicing the service.
Database SIDs are only known to the local listener on the node (not to the SCAN listener). And SIDs actually should not be used anymore.
However if you still need to access the SID you can use the virtual hostname of the server resp. the VIP address of the server in the connection and this will work:
<VIP>:<PORT>:<SID>
Note the SID of a RAC database is either myrac1 or myrac_1 (depending on administrator or policy managed database).
I still would recommend using services and not SIDs.
Furthermore the SCAN can only be resolved correctly by 11.2 clients.
Any pre 11.2 client should use an address_list containing the SCAN VIPs:
PRE112 =
(DESCRIPTION =
(LOAD_BALANCE=ON)
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 192.168.1.41)(PORT = 1521))
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 192.168.1.42)(PORT = 1521))
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 192.168.1.43)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVER = DEDICATED)
(SERVICE_NAME = pre112)
If a application server does not understand / then try using the TNSNAMES entry directly:
jdbc:oracle:thin:@(DESCRIPTION = (LOAD_BALANCE=ON)(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 192.168.1.41)(PORT = 1521))(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 192.168.1.42)(PORT = 1521))(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 192.168.1.43)(PORT = 1521))(CONNECT_DATA = (SERVER = DEDICATED)(SERVICE_NAME = pre112)))
Hope that helps

How can i avoid ora-01706 error in Oracle 9i db?
Can someone help me with the error ora-01706 user function result value was too large in Oracle 9i ?
I am trying to parse the xml with namespace and CDATA tags. The example of the query i have used is as follows.
select extractvalue(
xmltype(
extractvalue(xmltype(col1),'/SubmitPart/OrderRequest/OrderXML','xmlns="http://www.w3schools.com/ravi/srpf"')
),'/OrderRetrieval/OrderDetails/Locations/Location/L2_Is/I/IProperties/Edge/RAG','xmlns="http://www.w3schools.com/ravi/srpf"')
from table;
I am getting the error
ora-01706 user function result value was too large
Please let me know how can i get rid of this. my db is Oracle 9.2.0.1.0You are probably better off posting this question in the XML DB forum. You are hitting a 64K limit in 9i. You'll have to come up with a way to reduce the data you need to extract to under 64K.

ORA-04043 Error when oracle type is declared in a package
We have a package defining a type and a procedure which uses that type. The problem is - If the type is defined in a package jdbc fails with an error. If the type is declared outside the package everything works fine. The package is declared as
create or replace
PACKAGE TEST_ARRAY AS
TYPE COLTYPE_NUMTAB is table of number;
procedure Test_Procedure(some_var_name in COLTYPE_NUMTAB);
END TEST_ARRAY;My Jdbc call is made by declaring the type as "TEST_ARRAY.COLTYPE_NUMTAB".
Is there any different style/way of declaring this type?
ThanksI tried tracing the oracle jdbc driver logs (we use the OCI jdbc driver) for the success and failure scenarios. Here are the logs

Though I am not the right person to interpret the jdbc logs hope it helps in troubleshooting the problem. -

ORA-06503 ERROR IN ORACLE REPORT.
[Error message is fucntion without a value, the solution is er-write function to return a value. I know this much about the error, but i want someone look at my function and tell me what's the problem with it. The error not going anywhere.]
(here is my function which i defined in column level)
(function CF_1Formula return date is)
(VAR_DATE DATE;)
(ORD_DATE DATE;)
(begin)
( select max(mit_date)
into var_date
from mit_d
where mit_d.uic_well_seq = :seq1;
SELECT MAX(mit_orders.ORDER_DATE)
INTO ORD_DATE
FROM mit_ORDERS, WELL_ORDERS
WHERE mit_ORDERS.SEQ = WELL_ORDERS.UIC_ORDER_SEQ
AND WELL_ORDERS.UIC_WELL_SEQ = :SEQ1;
IF VAR_DATE >= ORD_DATE THEN
return(var_date);
END IF;
end;)
appreciate any help.Hi,
Your function doesnt return a value.
Functions always need to return a value.
You can use an exception handler or code an alternative in case your if doesn't apply:
IF VAR_DATE >= ORD_DATE THEN
return(var_date);
ELSE
return(an_alternative_date); -- or raise an error, follow your requirements in this
END IF;Also realize that you SELECT INTO, maybe you need also to catch NO_DATA_FOUND and/or TOO_MANY_ROWS exceptions there, and provide alternative values for your variables.

How do you avoid the ORA-01555 error in oracle 8i?
please give me examples.
i have to disagree with gopalora
Increasing rollback segments will make large updates/inserts not to fail.
Do frequent Logical Commits will make large updates/inserts not to fail (besides the performance issues).
What you have is a long query failing from frequent updated table,
In any point while the query is running, some rows get updated, making the resultset inconsistent.
Action
Old Snapshot >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> |
Query. ----------------------------------------------------------------x--------------------------------------------->
Update >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> U
Commit >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> ^
If that's the case then this should help.
Workaround:
Try splitting the data you are retrieving. ( by Date for instance).
If you are retrieving a whole year get it month by month instead.
I hope this helps. -

10.2.0.3
I've started getting these errors on my database. However, nothing was being reported in my alert log. I did the research and found a bug that could cause this, with a patch. Also found that the same patch was in the 10.2.0.3 patch set.
So I updated to that patch last night. STILL getting the same errors...but now I'm getting new errors...

I looked up that string of text...googled it...came back with nothing.
How else can I investigate this ORA-12537 error? This is my production db, and it's down.
I checked the memory that one article indicated could be of issue...memory is fine.
It also mentioned versions of listener, I'm looking into that right now on how to see what version and how to update it. I'm also going to open a SR with Oracle.
Thanks.Ok...tried to log back in (no other actions taken) and it was a normal log in...that's really weird.
The db was never down...it's functional. Just some folks can't get to it. (not the same people all the time..)
