ORA-1502 while skip_unusable_indexes=true

OWB 9.2
We have one mapping that fills the target table in 2 stages:
in the first stage the table is filled with INSERT /*+ APPEND */ from several source tables;
the target table operator is then used as one of the source tables for the next INSERT /*+ APPEND */ into this target table itself.
OWB generates 2 set based INSERT statement for this mapping. The second INSERT (that also reads the target table) aborts with ORA-1502 (one of the indexes of the target table unusable). This is true, but in a premapping operator a ALTER SESSION SET SKIP_UNUSABLE_INDEXES=TRUE is issued.
Why does this error occur anyway? And why not in the first INSERT then?
Jaap.

This is an expected behaviour when you have a unique key. Updating a column with an unusable unique index could cause database integrity issues.
Take a look at Bug Nº 589199, Note:281329.1 and Note:111494.1 in Metalink.
I don't really think this is a Bug, it's database expected behaviour.
"A workaround is to use a hint in the SQL statement which causes the
optimizer not to select a plan which uses an unavailable index, or
to drop and recreate the index."
I believe that's what you should look for.

Marcos

  • ORA-6508 while using attached PL-SQL library [SOLVED]

    Hi all,
    we use Developer 10.1.2.0.2 on Windows XP Professional SP 2.
    We have a Linux-based ( 2.6.5-7.287.3) OAS (10.1.2.0.2).
    We received ORA-6508 while starting a report from within a menu. In fact all reports led to the same mistake. I must admit that they all worked fine before. We found a workaround for this problem by recompiling the attached PL-SQL library. The question is: what caused the loss of information ? What reasons can be imagined for such a behaviour ?
    Regards

    Hi Christian,
    what we have is:
    We have a .mmx in production for quite a while. Within the .mmx you can start several reports by selecting an entry of the menu. It all works without problems. Then suddenly by choosing one of the reports you face ORA-6508 (something that has never happend before even though we made no changes to the system - at least I have no knowledge of any ;)
    The .pll which I recompiled is attached to the menu (.mmb). Recompiling the .pll fixes the issue.

  • ORA-33292 while attaching.

    Hi,
    I am maintaining the cubes from pl/sql procedures.
    Now my requirement is if 1st person has fired one cube and after some time 2nd person fires one more cube lying in the same AW then second has to wait till the first one is completed. this we have implemented.
    My problem is that first time it is not showing me any error but while executing second time and it is throwing error ORA-33292(while attaching).
    This error says that either the AW is not released or insufficient previleges. I have checked both and we are doing proper detach operation and previleges are also granted for the AW$ object to the calling schema.
    do somebody has idea about it??.
    Thanks
    Brijesh

    What version are you using? I would expect that whoever is getting the 33292 error would always get it. You need SELECT access to the table named SCHEMA.AW$AWNAME to read an AW named AWNAME and SELECT and UPDATE to the table to write to it.
    If this is not the case, please file a TAR.

  • Skip_Unusable_indexes=True and OWB

    General problem is that if any session properties are set just before the OWB proc call, these properties are not cascaded into the session where the proc actually exec
    Eg. (all commands in SQL PLUS)
    --set index on target unusable
    alter index I unusable
    alter session skip_unusable_indexes=true;-- owb_func is the sql_template thing from MEtalink to --invoke OWB packages
    exec owb_func(task=>'X')Then it fails becuase of "index is unusable" error. I know I can solve this using a LOGON TRIGGER , but is there an alternative (less system-wide :-) ) soultion ?

    Couldn't you do the alter session in the premapping process for the mapping?

    Could somebody please advise me where I might be going wrong? Any help in this regards will be highly appreciated.

    Hi,
    I presume your Web Service needs HTTP (BASIC?) Authentication.
    All this needs is setting the following 2 properties, which as can be seen, you are setting....
    UTL_DBWS.set_property(l_call, 'USERNAME', '<username>');
    UTL_DBWS.set_property(l_call, 'PASSWORD', '<pwd>');
    This should work as long as your DBWS Callout Utility was downloaded from OTN after June 2008, and it's version is atleast 10.1.3.1.
    Following is a sample code snippet that was tested successfully for this :
    Declare
    l_service UTL_DBWS.service;
    l_call UTL_DBWS.call;
    l_result sys.XMLTYPE;
    l_request sys.XMLTYPE;
    BEGIN
    l_service := UTL_DBWS.create_service(null);
    l_call := UTL_DBWS.create_call(l_service);
    UTL_DBWS.set_target_endpoint_address(l_call, 'http://xxx.oracle.com:8888/basic/MyWebService1SoapHttpPort');
    UTL_DBWS.set_property(l_call, 'USERNAME', 'username');
    UTL_DBWS.set_property(l_call, 'PASSWORD', 'pwd');
    UTL_DBWS.set_property(l_call, 'OPERATION_STYLE', 'document');
    UTL_DBWS.set_property(l_call, 'SOAPACTION_USE', 'true');
    UTL_DBWS.set_property(l_call, 'SOAPACTION_URI', 'http://xxx.oracle.com:8888/basic/MyWebService1SoapHttpPort');
    l_request := XMLTYPE('<Z_CENTRICITY_GET_DOCLIST
    xmlns:urn="urn:sap-com:document:sap:rfc:functions">' ||
    '<I_INCLUDE_OLD_VERSIONS></I_INCLUDE_OLD_VERSIONS>' ||
    '<I_INSTITUTION>0001</I_INSTITUTION>' ||
    '<I_PATIENT_NR>0000000181</I_PATIENT_NR>' ||
    '</Z_CENTRICITY_GET_DOCLIST>');
    l_result := UTL_DBWS.invoke(l_call, l_request);
    UTL_DBWS.release_call (call_handle => l_call);
    UTL_DBWS.release_service (service_handle => l_service);
    EXCEPTION
    WHEN OTHERS THEN
    dbms_output.put_line(sqlcode || ' ' || sqlerrm);
    END;
    Hope this helps,

  • Getting ORA-32700 while creating database

    I am getting following error when creating the database :
    ORA-32700 error occurred in DIAG Group Service
    The error description is as follows :
    Cause: An unexpected error occurred while performing a DIAG Group Service operation.
    Action: Verify that the DIAG process is still active. Also, check the Oracle DIAG trace files for errors.
    The setup is as follows :
    Database : Oracle 9i Rel 2.
    OS : IBM AIX 4.3.3
    We are trying to create the database from sqlplus/dbca. It seems that in the database creation process it is throwing the error while it is trying to create the control files.
    listener.ora :
    LSNR_TSEDMDB2 =
    (DESCRIPTION_LIST =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = prcsmbk1)(PORT = 1522))
    TNSNAMES.ORA
    LISTENER_TSEDMDB2 =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = prcsmbk1)(PORT = 1522))
    We have IBM HACMP Cluster setup on 3 machines. This machine (prcsmbk1) on which I am getting the error while creating the database is part of that HACMP cluster. While installing the Oracle database software also it gave me a list of the 3 machines which are in HACMP cluster. We are not planning to setup RAC, but still it seems like while creating the database control files Oracle is trying to perform some group service operation.

    Thanks a lot for all your responses. We found the issue. The issue was that when we installed 9i we selected Enterprise option which installed RAC also. And after that when we were trying to create database Oracle was thinking that we are trying to create database in RAC env. and most likely it was trying to create/sync the control files on all the machines in the cluster.
    The sequence of events were as below :
    1. We have 8i installed on this machine
    2. We installed 9i (9.2.0.1.0) using the same ORACLE_BASE but different ORACLE_HOME. We didn't select "Custom Install". We selected "Enterprise install" option
    3. We installed new installer (2.2.0.18.0 ) and then 9i patch (9.2.0.4.0)
    4. While creating the database (manually & through DBCA) we were getting ORA-32700
    5. We tried to uninstall (using OUI 2.2.0.18.0) 9i (including the patch) completely but it never succeeded. We noticed that when we started uninstall it did show progress for about 20 minutes and after that it didn't show any progress. It was not taking any CPU cycles and It was not writing to the log file either. Basically we were never able to cleanly uninstall 9i. We tried almost 2 to 3 times.
    6. Then we installed 9i using a new ORACLE_BASE and this time we selected "Custom Install" and we did not install RAC. This is successful
    7. Then we installed new installer (2.2.0.18.0 ) and we tried to install the 9i patch (9.2.0.4.0) using this new installer but it never succeeded. Then we tried to install the 9i patch (9.2.0.4.0) using the old installer version (2.2.0.11.0) and it was also successful.
    8. Then we tried to create database using DBCA and it was successful and then we dropped the database which was created using DBCA and then we created it manually through SQLPLUS and this was fine too.
    So basically what we learned from this exercise is that if we are installing 9i on a machine which is part of a cluster and if we don't plan to setup RAC then we shouldn't install RAC and we should do a custom install. I wish there was a option in create database stmt to tell Oracle that though we are creating database on a machine which is part of a cluster environment but we don't intend to setup RAC.
    And other thing which is still a mystery is that why does the uninstall never completes successfully. One question on this : We were using the installer version 2.2.0.18.0 to uninstall the 9i software. Do we need to use the older version (2.2.0.11.0) of the OUI?

    Hi Ravi,
    Thank you for your kind support
    That issue has been solved. Problem was with the event queue and only for that particular job i mentioned in the first post (I was able to create other jobs with different Events using the same queue) . After recreating the event queue i am able to create the same job. I got the same error when I tired to drop the queue, and then I dropped the queue table itself. Do you have any idea about what might had caused the issue?
    Thanks

    A client is facing the following error while entering data:
    ORA-08177-Cannot serialize transaction.
    so could u tell me the reason & remedy for this error.

    Hi,
    What is your INIT.ORA parameter value for "serializable"?
    Oracle should only serialize transactions when serializable is set to TRUE.
    **Note : It is good for you to follow the oracle error documentation for error

    Hi Friends,
    Iam getting the following error while trying to grant select privilege for the view to SchemaB, i have the view in schemaA.
    I have used the tables from both the schema for creating the view and iam getting the error on showing a particular table
    ORA-01720: grant option does not exist for 'schemaB.Product'.
    I have looked into so many forums but i couldn't find the answer for my question.
    I must have to create the view in the Schema A only(strictly), as i seen in some forums stated that while creating the view in the other schema and granting the select privilege will solve the problem.But it was an exception to me ...
    Tell me something how can i proceed in this .....

    grant select on t1 to seconduser with admin optionNo. WITH ADMIN OPTION applies to system privileges only. Object privileges need the WITH GRANT OPTION ...
    SQL> grant select on joe_soap.some_table to apc with admin option
