ORA-22881: dangling REF during getConnection() on stateless connection pool
Hello,
I have some trouble with "ORA-22881: dangling REF" error against getConnection() on a stateless connection pool.
Following the relevant part of the code:
return = gstatelessConnectionPool->getConnection( "scott[austin]",
"tiger",
"tag1");
Is anybody get rid of such problems.
I'm running Oracle 10.2.0.4.0 on Solaris.
Thanks,
Yaakov
There is nothing much available on Metalink either for this error during an upgrade. I would advise you to get your accounting in order and raise the SR with Oracle support.

Hi,
I'm having trouble with a "ORA-22881: dangling REF" error against :new.OBJECT_VALUE when a trigger executes.
Here is the initial trigger:
create or replace TRIGGER "CSHEET_UPDATE"
BEFORE UPDATE ON "CSHEET" FOR EACH ROW
BEGIN
SELECT
updateXML(
:new.OBJECT_VALUE,
'/Csheet/METADATA/MODIFIED_DATE/text()', to_char(SYSDATE, 'YYYY-MM-DD') || 'T' || to_char(SYSDATE, 'HH:MI:SS')
INTO :new.OBJECT_VALUE FROM dual;
END;
And this is the error I get with even a simple UPDATE:
BEGIN
UPDATE CSHEET SET OBJECT_VALUE = OBJECT_VALUE WHERE rownum = 1;
COMMIT;
END;
Error report:
ORA-22881: dangling REF
ORA-06512: at "LNC.CSHEET_UPDATE", line 5
ORA-04088: error during execution of trigger 'LNC.CSHEET_UPDATE'
ORA-06512: at line 2
22881. 00000 - "dangling REF"
*Cause: The object corresponding to the REF that was accessed does not
exist.
*Action: Ensure that the REF value is pointing to an existing object.
However, if I add a schemavalidate() call at the beginning of the trigger then the error disappears.
New trigger:
create or replace TRIGGER "CSHEET_UPDATE"
BEFORE UPDATE ON "CSHEET" FOR EACH ROW
BEGIN
:new.OBJECT_VALUE.schemavalidate();
SELECT
updateXML(
:new.OBJECT_VALUE,
'/Csheet/METADATA/MODIFIED_DATE/text()', to_char(SYSDATE, 'YYYY-MM-DD') || 'T' || to_char(SYSDATE, 'HH:MI:SS')
INTO :new.OBJECT_VALUE FROM dual;
END;
Is there another way, besides using ":new.OBJECT_VALUE.schemavalidate();", to correct the :new.OBJECT_VALUE dangling REF issue?
Thanks
KeithHi Marco,
This is my version info:
Oracle Database 11g Release 11.1.0.6.0 - Production
PL/SQL Release 11.1.0.6.0 - Production
CORE 11.1.0.6.0 Production
TNS for 32-bit Windows: Version 11.1.0.6.0 - Production
NLSRTL Version 11.1.0.6.0 - Production
CSHEET is indeed object relational storage.
BEGIN
DBMS_XMLSCHEMA.REGISTERSCHEMA(
schemaurl => 'CSheet.xsd',
schemadoc => sys.UriFactory.getUri('/public/Schemas/CSheet.xsd'),
local => TRUE,
gentypes => TRUE,
genbean => FALSE,
gentables => TRUE,
force => FALSE,
owner => 'LNC',
enablehierarchy => DBMS_XMLSCHEMA.ENABLE_HIERARCHY_NONE
END;
The only "unusual" aspect of it is that it does some out-of-line storage, has a primary key assigned internally, and specifies a couple of unique restrictions:
Snippets from the schema:
<xs:element name="Csheet" xdb:defaultTable="CSHEET" xdb:columnProps="CONSTRAINT CSHEET_pkey PRIMARY KEY (XMLDATA.UCN)">
<xs:element name="LEGISLATION" maxOccurs="unbounded" xdb:SQLInline="false" xdb:defaultTable="CSHEET_LEGISLATION">
<xs:complexType>
<xs:sequence>
<xs:choice>
<xs:sequence>
<xs:element name="NAME" type="reasonable_data_T"/>
<xs:element name="CITATION" minOccurs="0" type="CITATION_T"/>
</xs:sequence>
<xs:element name="CITATION" type="CITATION_T"/>
</xs:choice>
<xs:element name="REFERENCES">
<xs:complexType>
<xs:sequence>
<xs:element name="REFERENCE" maxOccurs="unbounded" xdb:SQLInline="false" xdb:defaultTable="CSHEET_REFERENCES">
<xs:complexType>
<xs:sequence>
<xs:unique name="unique_pinpoints">
<xs:selector xpath="REFERENCE"/>
<xs:field xpath="PINPOINT"/>
</xs:unique>
<xs:unique name="unique_legislation">
<xs:selector xpath="LEGISLATION"/>
<xs:field xpath="CITATION"/>
</xs:unique>
And I rename and scope the REF tables:
DECLARE
gen_name VARCHAR2 (4000);
BEGIN
SELECT TABLE_NAME INTO gen_name FROM USER_NESTED_TABLES
WHERE PARENT_TABLE_NAME = 'CSHEET';
EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'RENAME "' || gen_name || '"TO CSHEET_LEG_V';
SELECT TABLE_NAME INTO gen_name FROM USER_NESTED_TABLES
WHERE PARENT_TABLE_NAME = 'CSHEET_LEGISLATION';
EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'RENAME "' || gen_name || '"TO CSHEET_REF_V';
END;
ALTER TABLE CSHEET_LEG_V ADD SCOPE FOR (COLUMN_VALUE) IS CSHEET_LEGISLATION;
ALTER TABLE CSHEET_REF_V ADD SCOPE FOR (COLUMN_VALUE) IS CSHEET_REFERENCES;
Nothing really non-standard and everything works just fine...except I HAVE to schemavalidate() to undangle my REF :( .
I don't even understand where the REF is coming from since it was my understanding that OBJECT_VALUE was considered an XMLType. Could it have something to do with the out-of-line tables?
Thanks

I get "ORA-22881: dangling REF" when creating a data_block in Forms 6i via the wizard.
I have a table with a column with type 'phone'. The following works fine in Toad:
create or replace type phone as object (
kind varchar2(30),
area_code char(3),
prefix char(3),
exchange char(4),
extension varchar2(5)
create table person (
pid number,
first_nm varchar2(30) not null,
phone phone,
primary key (pid));
INSERT INTO PERSON (
PID, FIRST_NM, PHONE)
VALUES ( 1, 'Me', phone('USA', 319, 588, 1212, 0000))
Select P.FIRST_NM, P.PHONE.PREFIX
from Person P
WHERE P.PHONE.AREA_CODE = 319Ideas?That should be a problem in the database. See SQL Reference manual for the IS DANGLING keyword.

ORA-01426: Numeric Overflow During Cube Build (Doc ID 1494869.1)
Our cube builds starting failing and we received this error after the cube log table sequence reached 32787.
After recreating the sequence the builds run successfully. This seems to be an unacceptable bug for an enterprise level product.
I have been unable to find a patch on the Oracle support site for it. Is a patch avaliable?

ORA-19112: error raised during evaluation: ... Invalid text
Hi!
I'm using Oracle 10g version 10.2.0.2.0.
If I an element is defined in a XSD file as:
<xs:element name="cEAN">
<xs:annotation>
<xs:documentation>GTIN</xs:documentation>
</xs:annotation>
<xs:simpleType>
<xs:restriction base="xs:string">
<xs:whiteSpace value="preserve"/>
<xs:pattern value="[0-9]{0}|[0-9]{8}|[0-9]{12,14}"/>
</xs:restriction>
</xs:simpleType>
</xs:element>And I have a XML with:
<cEAN/>And other with:
<cEAN>7891515928001</cEAN>And I use a select like this:
SELECT vw.*
FROM tb_Carga tmp,
XMLTABLE(XMLNAMESPACES('http://www.portalfiscal.inf.br/nfe' AS "nfe"),

Is any thing wrong in the XSD?

[0-9]{8} matches 8 digits, or
[0-9]{12,14} matches from 12 up to 14 digits

Some doubts in using resource-ref,connection pool n Data-source
Hi all ,
I need little bit clarification in the following points.
1) Does the connection pool which is created can be displayed in JNDI Tree???
I am seeing only DataSOurce in the JNDI Tree Only.
2)In case of Bean Managed Persistance, in ejb-jar.xml,
I had given the following info.
<resource-ref>
<res-ref-name>ramukkDataSource</res-ref-name>
<res-type>javax.sql.DataSource</res-type>
<res-auth>Container</res-auth>
</resource-ref>Does the <res-ref-name> refers to Datasource Name??
In weblogic-ejb-jar.xml
<reference-descriptor>
<resource-description>
<res-ref-name>ramukkDataSource</res-ref-name>
<jndi-name>ramukkpool</jndi-name>
</resource-description>
</reference-descriptor>Here <jndi-name> refers to connection pool as per weblogic bible book.
If so when i deployed my ejb into the server iam getting Datasource cant be found.
If i had given like the following,
In ejb-jar.xml
<resource-ref>
<res-ref-name>jdbc/ramuJndi</res-ref-name>
<res-type>javax.sql.DataSource</res-type>
<res-auth>Container</res-auth>
</resource-ref> In weblogic-ejb-jar.xml
<reference-descriptor>
<resource-description>
<res-ref-name>jdbc/ramuJndi</res-ref-name>
<jndi-name>jdbc/ramuJndi</jndi-name>
</resource-description>
</reference-descriptor>Then only my ejb code is successfully deploying doing some work which is as per xpectation.
Can any body tell why I have to give the same name for <res-ref-name> n <jndi-name>??
I am working on this problem from last one week. Still not found the solution.
Connection Pool Creation
GENERAL::
Name : ramukkpool
url : jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/test
Driver Classname: com.mysql.jdbc.Driver
Properties :
user = root
Password = XXX
create
TARGETS::
i had shifted myServer from left side to right side n clicked >>Apply
(Techncially can we say this as deploying the connection pool into server ???????????
If not how to deploy the connection pool into server??)
I did not get any errors in the console.
Now i am creating a datasource
CONFIGURATION:
Name : ramukkDataSource
JNDIName: jdbc/ramuJndi(Does we have to follow this convention only?? i.e JNDIName should start with jdbc/ only)
PoolName: ramukkpool
create
TARGETS::
I had shifed myServer from left to right n >>Apply.
Now also i did not get any errors in the console.Thanx(in advance),
ramuI have read the documentation.
I changed my class to oracle.jdbc.pool.OracleConnectionCacheImpl from
oracle.jdbc.pool.OracleConnectionPoolDataSource
I observed in the EM that the Open JDBC Connections and Total JDBC Connections are the same. When I used oracle.jdbc.pool.OracleConnectionPoolDataSource my Total JDBC Connections was increasing and Open JDBC Connections remains 0.
My question still remains unanswered, could some kindly help.
Q? I have defined a data source in JDeveloper using
oracle.jdbc.pool.OracleConnectionCacheImpl
In my java bean I am using the code pasted below to make a connection to database.
Can some one tell whether I am using the correct method of connection pooling mechanism or do I need to make some changes? This application uses JSP and used by lots of people which hits database very frequently.
Any help is highly appreciable.
Thanks in advance.

Hi all, I am maintaining a web site that has lots of requests ( about 10 requests a second ) to an Oracle table that has a BLOB field. Those requests create new blobs, updates them and reads them... My program worked fine until I started using connection pooling ( Before that, I used a single connection that was initialized at startup ). Although I had to synchronized the methods that interact with blob field, everything worked great. So now, to optimize my site, I want to use connection pooling so that even if my methods are synchonized on the connection object, there will be more than one connection available so it will not affect performance.
So once I introduced my connection pooling system with the oracle.jdbc.pool.OracleConnectionCacheImpl class, I started getting ORA-22990 ( Cannot span lob objects... ). I get the error on the flush() method when I try to write the blob to the database. Here is my function that writes a row in the databse.
private synchronized void writeSession(CapSession pSession) throws Exception
javax.sql.PooledConnection pc = pool.getPooledConnection();
Connection conn = pc.getConnection();
CallableStatement stmt=conn.prepareCall(writeObjSQL);
stmt.setString(1,pSession.getSessionId()+pSession.getPassword());
stmt.setLong(2,pSession.getLastAccess());
stmt.setLong(3,pSession.getTimeout());
stmt.registerOutParameter(4,java.sql.Types.BLOB);
stmt.executeUpdate();
oracle.sql.BLOB blob=(BLOB)stmt.getBlob(4);
OutputStream os=blob.getBinaryOutputStream();
ObjectOutputStream oop=new ObjectOutputStream(os);
oop.writeObject(pSession);
oop.flush();
oop.close();
os.close();
stmt.close();
conn.commit();
conn.close();
pc.close();
} If anyone could help me, I would deeply appreciate it!
Thank you for your time.kalle
Thank you very much for your advice!!!
Like you said, I started to check whether the connections are fine before giving them from the pool.I am executing a simple "select 'anil' from dual" and if its fine only then I return the connection. So far it seems to be fine. Also I am reopening the connections(closing the old ones and opening new connections) after every 12 hours.
As far as the JDBC driver is concerned, I already tried with Oracle 8i driver, it gave the same problems. I read that 9i driver might solve this problem, so I changed to the latest 9i driver (classes12_g.zip).
Sometimes before(before I started checking whether the connection is good )the application used to hang up at the point where I am issuing setAutoCommit(false).It never comes out from that statement.Is this something to do with theconnections being closed?
What I am afraid is, will the appilation get hung up even after I check the connection with select query and then issue autocommit(false)??
Or will it hang up while I check with a select query??
As long as it doesn't hung up, I am fine. Because i am cathching the exceptions.
Thanks In ADVANCE

Select for update on stateless connections
i have read that using select for update for a web application will not work specially if the stateless connection are used , and the best way to make sure that the column you are reading was not changed is to use the time stamp approach and not select for update?? i am right
Not entirely correct.
A connection/session to Oracle has state. There is no such thing as a stateless Oracle connection.
The stateless connection is from the web browser to the web server. It makes a connection. Asks for a page (GET, PUT or POST typically). It gets a response from the web server. It closes that connection.
When the web server response, it opens a (stateful) connection to Oracle. Or it re-uses an existing (stateful) Oracle connection (now idle after having serviced another web browser/web server request).
The problem with pessimistic locking (e.g. SELECT FOR UPDATE) is that the very same (stateful) Oracle session will either
a) be closed when a response is send to the web browser
b) be used for another totally different web browser
Thus any locks made will either be lost (option a) or will get used by the wrong web browser (option b).
A method is therefore needed to make the lock spans different Oracle (stateful) sessions. Web browser selects rows to update using Oracle session 101 at Time 1. Web browser submits updated rows and a commit using Oracle session 142 at Time 2.
The "best way" to handle optimistic locking is likely using the Oracle System Change Number (SCN). This represents the "current version" of the rows.
So at Time 1, via Session 101, you give the web browser a 100 rows to update - together with the SCN that says the current version of the rows are v1.2.0.1.
At Time 2, using Session 142, the web browser submits its changes for those 100 rows. Together with the SCN v1.2.0.1.
The SQL UPDATE issues the update statement - but adds the SCN version criteria. If the UPDATE fails to update all 100 rows, it means that some of the rows no longer exist, or that some rows have a new version number (was changed in the meantime).
In this case, the UPDATE is rolled back and an exception raised to tell the web browser that some (or all) of those 100 rows have been changed in the meantime.

In "purchases" while in my App Store, Mountain Lion says, "an error has occurred" and the green 'download' button is grey and I cannot re-start the download. I was abroad when I purchased this app and during download, my internet connection was lost. At the time, Apple was still offering the e-chat, so I did that and the man was very helpful and it was a quick fix, so my download button turned green again, and I was able to begin the download. BUT during the download, I was kicked offline once again, and I decided to wait until I was back in the USA. I will go in to an Apple store and ask assistance, but if there is something I am missing, I'd like to try that first. Thanks in advance for any advice.

IO Exception Broken Pipe ORA-17002 while using connection pooling
Hi
We are experiencing "broken pipe ORA-17002 error" when using connection pooling. This seems to be a common error when implementing connection pooling, but I didn't find any solution anywhere.
we are using Oracle 9i 9.2.0.1 JDBC thin driver
Our database is Oracle 8.1.7 running on HP Unix
The middle tier(Tomcat) runs on RedHat linux server
We are using JDK1.3
It seems the connections automatically get stale or bad after certain period of time.Iam checking to see if the connection is closed, before giving the connection from the pool to the appilcation.It seems its still open.But when I start using the connection to open a callable statement or setAutocommit to false, it says Broken pipe or No more data to read from the socket.
We are implementing our own connection pooling class(we experimented with OracleConnectionCacheImpl but it too gave the same errors).
Does anybody have a solution for this problem??
Is there a workaround for this?I would like to know how connection pooling is implemented in most of the applications that use oracle database?Or do we need to explicitly test the connection before using it, and reopen a connection if that is bad??
Thanks
Anilkalle
Anil

Hi, You can, if you use the name server. You could declare yourself your So on the nameserver and then bind to the object using its name on the name server. Beware not to do it systematically : the name server could become a bottle neck. So you shoul
