Ora 24960 exception with VC9 and Oracle 11g - 11.1.0.6.0 client

Hi,
We have developed a OCCI client application using 10g express edition and visual studio 2003. It was working fine. Now we have migrated to 11g (11.1.0.6.0) client with visual studio 2008. VC version 9. We have migrated all .dll and .lib files based on oracles following link.
http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/oci/occi/occidownloads.html
Now while trying to make connection it's throwing ORA 24960 exception. (the attribute OCI_ATTR_USERNAME is greater than the maximum allowable length of 255)
but the attribute length is very less.
connection = env->createConnection (oraUser,OraPass,conne);
Anybody can help immediately please?

Hi,
Are you compiling in debug mode and using the Instant Client SDK by chance? If so, I suggest taking a look at My Oracle Support Note:747933.1 (ORA-24960 Error When Trying to Connect in Debug Mode With OCCI Instant Client). Essentially the issue is that the OCCI files included with Instant Client SDK do not include the oraocci11d.lib library.
Regards,
Mark

  • Create PDF report with APEX and Oracle 11g doesn't work

    Hi everyone,
    I have a problem with the downloading of PDF reports from APEX with Oracle 11g.
    When I try to download a PDF, Acrobat Reader says it can not open the file.
    I have done the same test in an environment with APEX and Oracle 10g and it works perfectly.
    Does anyone know if there is a known bug for version 11g.
    Thank you very much.

    Hi Munky,
    I open the generated file the Notepad++ I can read the next message:
    *<HTML><HEAD><TITLE>500 Internal Server Error</TITLE></HEAD><BODY><H1>500 Internal Server Error</H1>OracleJSP:*
    An error occurred. Consult your application/system administrator for support. Programmers should consider setting the init-param <code>debug_mode</code> to "true" to see the complete exception message.</BODY></HTML>

  • CreateConnection ORA-24960  exception with MSVC6.0 and Oracle10g R 10.2.0

    Hi,
    I need help as soon as possible as the deadline is approaching all so fast.
    I'm getting the following exception "ORA-24960: the attribute OCI_ATTR_USERNAME is greater than the maximum allowable length of 255" when using Environment:createConnection.
    I'm using VisualC++ 6.0 and Oracle 10g R 10.2.0.
    The same C++ code works fine with Oracle10g R 10.1.0.
    Below is the snippet of code that creates the problem:
    #include <iostream>
    #include<occi.h>
    using namespace oracle::occi;
    using namespace std;
              CString connStr = _T("DBNAME");
              ociEnv = Environment::createEnvironment();
         try{
              conn = ociEnv->createConnection(_T("USERNAME"), _T("PASSWORD"), (LPCTSTR)connStr);
         catch(SQLException ex){
              cout << ex.getMessage(); //throws 24960 error
    I need to get the application running on a machine that has the 10g R10.2.0 database installed so to use the oraocci10.dll and oci.dll from that installation. I've tried different combinations of compiling and linking.
    I've tried compiling and linking with include and lib files supplied as part of the 10g R10.2.0 installation in the oci folder - didn't work.
    I've tried compiling and linking with include and lib files supplied as part of the 10g R10.1.0 installation in the oci folder - didn't work
    I've tried compiling and linking with include and lib files supplied as part of the instantclient sdk R10.2.0 - didn't work
    The only way it worked was by compiling and linking with 10.1.0 files and run it on a machine with 10g R10.1.0 database so with the dlls from that installation.
    Please help me as soon as possible.
    Thank you,
    Sorin

    The problem here is created by the strings passed as parameters in the call to createConnection method. They are not objects of the same class as expected by the oraocci10 library.
    In the 10.1 version of oracle there is a separate version of the oraocci10 library built with msvcrt.lib and my own application uses the same version of the crt implementation (msvcrt.lib). The 10.2 release of oracle has only versions of the oraocci10 library built with msvcrt7 or older implementations of crt.
    The work-around is to build my application using the includes and the libs from release 10.1 and package the oraocci10.dll library from the 10.1 release in the same folder as the application so it gets loaded instead of the oraocci10.dll supplied as part of the client installed on the host. This oraocci10.dll will still use the OCI version supplied as part of the oracle client so no functionality will be lost from that perspective.
    IMHO the fix is to get OCCI team to build a version of oraocci10 with visual studio 6.
    Cheers,
    Sorin

    Can you please let us know which might be the best golden gate software for us.Possibly the solaris x86_64 build was downloaded, instead of the build for solaris sparc? (I think all of our current solaris builds are 64-bit.) It's almost certainly a download / OS mismatch.
    What exact file did you download (what's the file name, before unzipping it), and on your solaris box, what's the result of => "uname -a" and/or "isainfo -v" ...? Just make sure the downloaded file matches what the box is running...
    Btw, not that it matters in this case, but if you were hypothetically running a 32-bit database on a 64-bit OS, you'd need a 32-bit build of GoldenGate. But I don't know why you'd do that. (And that's not the problem here.)

  • Trying to use ODAC on 64 bit Windows 7 with 64 bit Oracle 11g?

    I have been trying to connect to Oracle 11g with VS 2010 .NET Framework 4.0 on Windows 7 for about 5 days with no luck.
    Background: VS 2010, .Net Framework 4.0 and Oracle 11g 64 bit are running on the same maching.
    I have found that are two versions of the 64 bit ODAC.
    1) The XCopy bersion and 2) the Oracle Universal Installer version.
    To install the XCopy version, I right click on the cmd window, change to the folder where my xCopy install is and type install.bat all d:\oracle\myoraclehome odac just like the documentation says. The files are created in my Oracle home and there are registry keys under HKLM\Software\Oracle like the documentation says. I don't have a clue how to prove weather it's doing anything usefule though. When I go to VS 2010, I don't have System.Data.Oracleclient of Oracle.DataAccess.client or any other namespace that can talk to Oracle. How would I test the XCopy version and see if it is actually able to do anything?
    I like the Windows Installer version much better and set it up just like the readme.txt said to. I used the Oracle Data Access Components for Oracle Client 11.2.0.2.1. I wound up with two oracle homes, one for my server and one for the ODAC install. I copied tnsnames.ora and sqlnet.ora over to the odac client home's Network\Admin folder. From my server's oracle home, I ran sqlplus and was able to successfully login to the server. I liked the fact that it came with sample code and I saw that the Oracle.DataAcces.client dll was added as a project reference. I ran the samples with my userid and password and got a TNS Adapter error.
    Since the Oracle server is on the same server that everything else is on, I ASS-U-ME that I would want to install the Oracle Data although I didn't see it documented anywhere. I tried creating it in a different directory, but it says it must be installed on top of an existing oracle home. I tried creating it in my oracle home and got err message OUI-10044 - The selected oracle home location already contains an oracle home or APPL_TOP created while running a different OS.
    Can someone tell me how to correctly install either one of these and test it to make sure it is working?
    TIA I know someone on planet Earth must be using the 64-bit odac to connect to Oracle,
    George

    George,
    It sounds like I have the same setup as you and I am no expert on Oracle install issues but VS 2010 is 32bit. You need to install the 32 bit version of ODAC to make VS all happy. I was under the impression ther was no 64 bit version of ODAC? Then again I am no expert on the topic.
    I then installed the 64 bit xcopy version, decided upon the location for tnsname and then defined TNS_ADMIN. All works well. I create most of my exe's as AnyCPU and Windoze/Oracle seems to figure out what to do.

  • Terminology differences between MSSQL 2005/2008 and Oracle 11g

    I'm looking for some articles/books/webinars/blogs which discuss the terminology differences between MSSQL 2005/2008 and Oracle 11g in terms of database concepts. I have found this article http://www.sqlservercentral.com/articles/SQL+Server/67007 so far.
    Thanks.

    Thanks sb92075. Those returned results are almost all related to compare the features/functionalities between MSSQL and Oracle not to distinguish the terminology differences between them.

  • Uses for the Action Property with SQL and Oracle DB Adapters

    This thread is a complement to the Wiki Article
    BizTalk: Streamlining WCF SQL and Oracle Messaging-Only and Other Patterns
    The question.  In what circumstances is explicitly setting the Action value with the WCF SQL and Oracle DB bindings useful or beneficial.
    A complimentary question.  Is it even possible to set the Action value to anything other than exactly what is required by the Message.
    I ask because of three very specific behaviors of the bindings themselves:
    The binding enforces a match between the Action and the Message, therefore...
    There is a one-to-one relationship between the Message and Action, but...
    The binding is able to correctly derive and perform the requested operation with the unspecific CompositeOperation.
    For clarity, I understand how to set the Action. I. understand what the Action represents in the SOAP scheme. I understand how Action can be used as an abstraction for SOAP operations.
    Thoughts?

    Do you have any good suggestion to learn how to use action property with SQL and Oracle DB adapters?  I learn a lot from your replies for years in BizTalk forum. :)

    We have written a stored procedure(Procedure) in Oracle to update the data type fields that are unavailable in ADO calling the procedure using ADO from VB.
    Dinghy, how much of a learning curve is it to go from ADO to OO4O (Oracle Object for OLE)?

  • Install SAP ERP 6.0 with Linux and Oracle RAC

    Hi Guru,
    I want to install SAP ERP 6.0 with Linux and Oracle RAC. Is this possible?
    Where do I find information?
    Thanks,
    Hugo.

    Hello Hugo,
    You can use either RAC or dataguard. On note [105047|http://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/105047]:
    14. Data Guard
        o  You can use "Physical Standby".
        o  You cannot use "Logical Standby".
        o  You can use Data Guard Broker.
        o  You can use Maximum Performance Mode, Maximum Availability Mode and Maximum Protection Mode.
        o  In the case of Maximum Availability and Maximum Protection, you must pay particular attention to a fast network connection in order to avoid performance problems.
        o  Maximum Protection causes the primary database to terminate if problems occur in the standby database.
    60. Real Application Cluster (RAC)
        o  You can use this feature in accordance with Note 527843.

  • Doubt with Windows and Oracle Forms 10G and 11g

    Hi
    I have some doubts in installing Oracle Client on Windows.
    a)Can we install Oracle Forms 10g and Reports 10g client on Windows 7?
    b)Can we install Oracle Forms 11g and Reports 11g client on Windows XP?
    c)If we have an Oracle Forms 11g and Reports 11g, can it connect to a 10g Server?
    d)If we have an Oracle Forms 10g and Reports 10g Client, can it connect to an 11g Server?
    Please, Can any one help me in this????

    a)yes it can be installed on win7, may have some issues on 64bit systems but they're solvable
    b)11g had some problems with windows 2000, but didn't see mention of any problems on XP
    c)if you mean a database server then yes - i managed to connect 11g to an 8i database, so v10 should not be a problem. If you mean a forms/reports server..well newer forms/reports builder might not want to run old forms/reports and vice versa, but I don't see the point of operating on the same files from different versions. You can still load old form/report source files with a newer builder and recompile them to run on the new server.
    d) the "client" is effectively your web browser with a java plugin, unless I misunderstood your question. What version was a form/report compiled with should not be an issue.

  • Occi GetString causing a exception with ntdll.dll oracle 10g and MS 2005

    hi,
    I am getting an exception with using Visual Studio 2005(VC++8) and occi.h 10g client.
    When I run the release version I get an exception in ntdll.dll.
    The problem is in the getString(). The field in the oracle table is defined as a varchar2(300).
    I am new to oracle occi and need a solution because we cannot migrate to another version of the database.
    These are the solutions I have tried:
    download patches for MS Visual studio
    download patched for oracle 10g client
    Check that the charset it correct for std:string
    I see that others have had the same problem but no one has a solution. If anyone has a solution please email me because I have searched for days!

  • TNS Listener -ORA-12514 error following database shutdown - Oracle 11g

    Hi
    I have hit a problem with my oracle development database.
    When in sqlplus I executed the shutdown command, but nothing happened for several minutes and it was just hanging. No messages were displayed to the screen. The only thing was to close the command window. When I open sqlplus again and enter in the user name password as sysdba I am getting ORA 12514 TNS Listener could not resolve service in descriptor. This is odd as I could log on before and use the database. So I thought that the services were still shutting down I waited, and using the Windows snap on tool for Oracle 11g, I restarted the services on the database, but this has had no effect.
    Even using EM made no difference because I couldn't log on to perform a startup or recovery.
    So, please does anyone know how I can fix this?
    Thanks

    open Command Window & do EXACTLY as below; line for line
    sqlplus
    / as sysdba
    shutdown abort
    startup
    exit
    COPY command & results from above then PASTE all back here
