ORA-27123 AFTER INCREASING RAM

I tried to increase RAM from 2Gb to 4Gb. It didn't work, so I restored 2Gb. But just after this operation, I receive error: see below

Here nothing related to SGA_TARGET, if you want to increase memory for ORACLE instance, You have to increase SGA_MAX_SIZE , Moreover this is static value, you can change either in PFILE/SPFILE but not in memory , you have to bounce the instance for immediate changes.
SGA_TARGET is dynamic, once you set SGA_MAX_SIZE, then SGA_TARGET can grow upto SGA_MAX_SIZE.

We are currently running EBS 12.0.6 ith database 10.2.0.3 multi node env (this is production)
After increasing the RAM in application from 8 to 16 GB and in database from 16 to 24 GB, I start the database and my database running normal but when I starts the application services then CPU Utilization goes upto 70% to 80%, and my all users are seriously facing very bad recponse.
I have no idea what is happning in our system, but when I revert back the RAM's to 8 GB in application and 16 GB in database my application and Database working normal.
Please assist me???????????

What is the meaning of above output, I mean have already kernel-hugemem rmp installed?
If yes then why the system not using it.
When I had install 24 GB RAM, my OS detect it and also show the RAM 24 GB (checked by free command), but my Database was having high CPU after increasing RAM 24 upto 24 GB.
So, Should I install this rpm "kernel-hugemem-2.6.9-67.EL.i686.rpm"?????

Need an expert suggestion on the change's in the SGA and PGA of the oracle database after increasing the size of the machines RAM .
We have 64G of RAM in the machine .
There are 9 DB's running on oracle 10g and 11g on this machine
The total SGA of all the database's is around 18G .
DB1 has 2G of MAX_SGA_SIZE
DB2 has 8G of MAX_SGA_SIZE
DB3 has 1G   of MAX_SGA_SIZE
DB4 has 2G    of MAX_SGA_SIZE
DB5 has 676M   of MAX_SGA_SIZE
DB6   has 1.5G   of MAX_SGA_SIZE
DB7 has 1.2 G   of MAX_SGA_SIZE
DB8 has 675M   of MAX_SGA_SIZE
DB9 has 672 M   of MAX_SGA_SIZE
Now the machine RAM is up to 96G 64+ 32
what would be the suggestion on the increase in the SGA and PGA max size .
Any expert suggestion is highly apprciated .

Here the exercise is to add 4 CPU's and 32G RAM to the server earlier it was with 4 CPU's and 64G RAM this was decided by the server support team .

Now that the 4 CPU's and RAM is been added , my request is how to calculate the required kernal parameters for oracle to this new configuration for some improvement in the oracle performance .

ORA-27123 Linux RH9 to Fedora C2

Hi all,
For some reason, I was quite happy with the performance of my little cute Application Server, it is a Redhat 9 with 512 MB RAM and 1 GB swap, I had installed Oracle 9i Database, and it was working perfectly,
tried to install Oracle 10g AS on it, and managed my way to get it partially working (or lets say not working).
then had an idea (apparently bad one) to migrate to Fedora Core 2 as it might have over come the bugs and limitations of RH9 (I guess I was wrong)
After the migration, Oracle 10g Application server runs perfectly but Oracle 9i keeps giving me the "ORA-27123" error, Note Fedora Core 2 installed kernel 2.6.5 without asking me !!! (and wiped my previous kernel 2.4.21) even the source!!!!!! Bad Fedora!
Searched every possible solution I know so far,
1) changing the shmmax in the kernel to 2 * 1024 * 1024 * 1024 =(2G)
2) increased my swap file
3) set the ulimits in /etc/security/limits.conf; althogh I wasn't able to ssh oracle after that but I used su - oracle instead (from root).
4) re build the kernel to 2.4.27 (latest known good for kernel 2.4)
5) increased the ulimits as per installation instructions.
Read virtually every solution came after Google search about "ORA-27123" and still no success.
So, if someone can give me a hint or a solution to my nightmare that would be really appreciated.
at least would have to catch some sleep !

ORA-27123 error while creating database

I am using dbca to attempt to create a database after installing 9i on a dual-CPU linux box running Red Hat 7.3.
When I click 'finish' on the database creation wizard, everything appeared to be correct, but I receive an error message indicating that Oracle is unable to attach to shared memory segment.
Additional information is that the machine has 640MB memory and a 40 GB disk drive.
It seems like I may have received this during the installation process, but can't be sure. Would that indicate that the installation didn't complete successfully?
Any help would be appreciated.

I saw this error only in connection with Oracle 9i R2 (9.2.0) installation.
This error message showed up when the Oracle Database Configuration Assistant was running. I executed the following command to temporarely increase the maximum shared memory size:
As root:
# cat /proc/sys/kernel/shmmax
33554432
# echo `expr 1024 \* 1024 \* 1024` > /proc/sys/kernel/shmmax
# cat /proc/sys/kernel/shmmax
1073741824
Then click "Retry" for the Oracle Database Configuration Assistant.
It is recommended to increase the shmmax setting permanently for Oracle. So if you want to increase the maximum shared memory size permanently, add the following line to the /etc/sysctl.conf file:
kernel.shmmax=1073741824
I'm not quiet sure yet what the maximum size of the shared memory really should be. Also when you combine the Installation Guide with the Release Notes, you will see that other parameter(s) need to be changed as well. As soon as I have taken a
closer look at these issues, I will post the results here. But the temporary increase of the maximum shared memory size should keep you going to get Oracle9i (9.2.0) installed.

ORA-27123

This is the picture:
-Oracle 8.1.6 on Red Hat Linux 7.1
- Computer:
PIII 800Mhz
128MB RAM
64MB SWAP
- recompiled Kernel with values suggested by oracle for SHMMAX, etc.
I (apparently) succeed on installing the software, BUT as
suggested by several articles, I didn't create no database at all
from the OUI.
When the installation finished, I ran the dbassist to create a
new DB.
Again, as recommended by several articles, I didn't create the DB
from inside the dbassist, but saved the instructions to a shell
script file.
When I run the script it gaves me:
ORA-27123: unable to attach to shared memory segment
How do I solve this?
Same thing if testing manually with:
svrmgrl
CONNECT INTERNAL
STARTUP NOMOUNT
...)

Nope! same thing after adjusting those parameters...
When I did
.tstshm
it displayed:
Number of segments gotten by shmget() = 50
Number of segments attached by shmat() = 50
Segments attach at higher addresses
Segmentation fault (core dumped)
I'm sure this is bad, but I don't now what to do.
Any other idea?

I am having a problem with very slow start up after expanding RAM on my 2009 Mac Pro (8 Core 2.93GHz). When I run the Mac Pro with 2 x 2Gb RAM it takes 4 seconds before the gray screen, chime and spinning wheel appear.However when I expand the RAM to 20GB the grey screen and chimes appear after a long 20+ second black screen.
The RAM modules are paored 2 x 4GB Crucial CT51272BA1339.M18FMR and 6 x 2GB SAMSUNG M391B5673FH0-CH9, all DDR3 ECC.
Reading articles on the internet, I thought it may be damaged RAM modules, but I have completed memtest and all are okay. I have tried changing the pairs around and if I use any paired 2 modules the Mac Pro starts normally, only when I try running more than 2 modules the delayed start up happens. (black screen 20 Seconds)
I also have tried PRAM and SMU resets after changing the RAM setups, and the issues always occurs when I have more than 2 modules. As you can see I have 6 SAMSUNG modules and even with identical modules the issue happens, when increasing the RAM to more than 2 modules.
The Mac Pro runs fine after the start up screen and can see all the modules, but has anyone else come across this issue, or have any ideas as to why my Mac Pro is taking 20 seconds to start up with 20 GB RAM?

I have tried all the different combinations of RAM setup, and as stated in my initial topic, the Mac Pro boot up time only slows when I have more that 2 modules. Where I place these does not seem to make a difference.
I have taken the Mac Pro to an Apple Reseller technician yesterday and they where not able to find any RAM errors. Apparently the boot up time is within Apple's acceptable parameters for this set up.
Could anyone that is running a Mac Pro 2009 with more that 4 modules of RAM, please let me know if the boot up time is normal. ( the time it takes from pressing the power button to seeing the gray screen around 16 - 20 seconds)

ORA-27123 unable to attach shared memory segment

Running oracle 8.1.5.0.0 on Redhat 6.0 with kernel 2.2.12, I keep getting the error ORA-27123 unable to attach shared memory segment when trying to startup and instance with an SGA > 150 MB or so. I have modified the shmmax and shmall kernel parameters via the /proc/sys interface. The relevant output of ipcs -l is below:

max number of segments = 128
max seg size (kbytes) = 976562
max total shared memory (kbytes) = 16777216
min seg size (bytes) = 1
This system has 2gb of physical memory and is doing nothing except oracle.
I changed the shmmax and shmall parameters after the instance was created, was their something I needed to do to inform Oracle of the changes?

i had the same problem on my installation.
The solution is written in the Oracle8i Administrator Refernece on page 1-26 "Relocating the SGA"
a) determine the valid adress range for Shared Memory with:
$ tstshm
in the output Lowest & Highest SHM indicate the valid adress range
b) run genksms to generate the file ksms.s
$ cd $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/lib
$ $ORACLE_HOME/bin/genksms -b "sga_beginn_adress" > ksms.s
c) shut down any instance
d) rebuilt the oracle exe in $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/lib
$ make -f ins_rdbms.mk ksms.o
$ make -f ins_rdbms.mk ioracle
the result is a new oracle kernel that loads the SGA at the adress specified in "sga_beginn_adress".

Increase RAM usage

In the pref file ti states that: "Note: After Effects will not use more that 2GB of RAM... See After Effects Help for information about enabling this option."
I have 4 GB ram. I have searched AE Help, Microsoft, adobe and Google, ..,. for 3 hours now. I cannot find out HOW to do this. Everyone talks about it but no one tells HOW.
I really would appreciate it if someone, anyone would be kind enough to give me a hint as to where I might fine information on HOW to do it. It is so frustrating that Adobe help files does not tell you how to find anything or use the search terms in stating that you can find something. It sure would make it easier to use their programs if they stated how. But maybe it is just that I am not a tech guru, only a lowly user.

I did a clean installation of RHEL4 from scratch, but still the solution you suggested did not work.
Other info:
During pre-requisite checking - oracle alerted me :
- it expected value for shmmax = 2147483648
- it expected package openmotif, it not found openmotif
(in the system exists openmotif21-2.1.33-11.RHEL4.4 and openmotif-2.2.3-9-RHEL4.1 )
I ignored the errors and continued, but i still get the same error:
"ORA-27123: unable to attach to shared memory segment"

Explanation:
I have a problem with a form at run-time. I guess this is due to shortage of RAM/Hard Disk. I want to increase these things so that the form can use more RAM/Hard Disk and it does not crash/cancel. The reason is that when I change/toggle TOOL --> Preferences --> Runtime, Buffer Records and Array Processing parameters, the problem is rectifies intermittantly. That is there is no fix combination of above-mentioned parameters to rectify the problem. After lot of attempts, it gets resolved but only temporarily. Next time I have to modify the form, I get the same problem.
Please help.

First go to the RIM web site and look to see if they have an uninstaller for the device you had. Some times a reinstall of the application and then running the uninstaller is required for complete removal.
If no uninstaller is available, then you will have to use Spotlight to find all items with 'Blackberry' and 'Rim' in the titles. I would also download EasyFind and use that to locate such files. Often it will locate items that Spotlight misses.

Problems after upgrading RAM......why??

I recently installed after market memory (2 G) in my Macbook but as soon as I installed the memory my Mac started performing very weird, for example, it would freeze, the mouse would act funny, etc.
At first I thought I got bad Ram but as soon as upgraded the firm ware, everything looks OK for now
Is this a common problem in Macbooks when upgrading from 512 to 2 G or should I still be concern about this after market Ram?

Is the RAM recognized by the system? I would make sure it is properly seated. It does take considerable effort to get them in there. My thumbs were sore after installing my RAM.
Also, download and run Memtest. Be sure to have your MacBook plugged in when running the test as it will deplete your battery if you do not.

How to align the item text in the combobox vertically centred after increasing the height of the combobox in mfc?

I want to make the item text of the combobox to be aligned vertically(Centred) . Actually I increased the height
of the combobox and after the increasing the combobox height, the text is not centred vertically.The code
snippet for increasing the height is as follows,

I cannot find a easy way to make this.
I think you may need to draw your own Combo Box control. And you could change the edit control more like static text. Check the article:

DB nonresponsive with ORA-12514 after weeks of running fine

I have seen many prior users complain about getting ORA-12514 after a reboot after installation, and looking at the suggestions, I couldn't find anything addressed a situation where the whole system works for a long period of time and then stops working.
I have a working APEX installation that I can access over the web from remote clients
I have a working JDBC connection that I can use from several remote clients.
After several weeks/months of happily running, I no longer can access the apex website, and I can no longer access the db through the JDBC connection getting:
ORA-12514, TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect
descriptor
The Connection descriptor used by the client was:
//###.###.###.###:1521/XE
Going to look at Windows services, both OracleServiceXE and OracleXETNSListener are still running. To try and recover, I do the following:
* Stop the db and start the db. (Which simply stops OracleServiceXE, and then starts both it and the listener)
Doesn't fix it
* Thinking that the listener might be the problem, I then stop the db, and also manually stop the listener. I then start both of the services
Doesn't fix it
* I reboot the computer
Fixes it.
What is different about rebooting the computer that could possibly fix this? Also, someone had suggested in another thread to look at the listener log in db_1/network/admin/listener.log. I don't know what db_1 is, but I have a oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\NETWORK\ADMIN directory that does not have this log. If anyone has any insight into what this is, or what log I should look at to identify it, I would be greatly appreciative.

Ah, the alert log, that is a useful find. For those who don't know, you can find where the alert log is stored by doing the following:
select value from v$parameter where name = 'background_dump_dest';
I looked at the alert log, and i think it indicates that the process is running out of memory. Since it can run for a very long time without this, I'm assuming it's some kind of memory leak. Especially since I think the less I develop pages with APEX, the longer the system goes between crashing (That is only anecdotal). I looked at the .trc files that it spit out as well, but they seem to have internal stack traces and dumps. Where do I go from here? Is this something I post to an Oracle bug list? Below is the relevant section of the alert log:
